Happy New Year: New Year’s Castle Goshuin for the Year of the Snake
2025.01.09 / Last updated: 2025.01.09
The “Goshoin” castle seal—now a staple among castle goods—appears at Kuniyoshi Castle as the “Gosho-shuin.”
Wakasa Kuniyoshi Castle History Museum will begin selling a New Year limited castle seal. It features a gold “snake” seal appropriate for the New Year of Reiwa 7.
In keeping with Kuniyoshi Castle’s reputation as an impregnable fortress, the museum also offers a “Pass-the-Exam Version” stamped with the “Unfallen” seal for the upcoming exam season, as well as a “Castle Visit Commemorative Version.”
For the start of the New Year, and for examinees, these make a fitting protective charm for success in exams.

From August 2024 the Saba-go has been running on the JR Obama Line, and from November the Torafugu-go joined it.
And starting this week the Saba-go and the Torafugu-go are coupled together so you can see them at the same time.
To be honest, without prior information it’s hard to tell what the pattern is, but if you spot them something good might happen‼️ maybe‼️ right!?
JR Obama Line
This JR West railway runs from Tsuruga Station in Fukui Prefecture to Higashi-Maizuru Station in Kyoto Prefecture.
Both the Saba-go and the Torafugu-go are scheduled to run on the Obama Line for about five years. Their operating times have not been released.

The foliage around Mikata Goko typically peaks in late November, so the best viewing period is approaching.
The summit park sits atop a 400 m mountain, so it is somewhat cooler than ground level. Please bring an extra layer when viewing the autumn colors from the Rainbow Line.

[Bicycle Diary]
This morning, just as we opened the counter, two inbound guests came to rent bicycles.
They wanted to ride around the Mikata Five Lakes, so we added them to the cycling tour originally planned for tourism association members.
Everyone cycled slowly together, enjoying the nature.
Partway through, there was a fuss about a tire losing air, and a nearby person kindly lent us a pump, which was a big help.
They had already been staying in Japan for several nights and visiting many places, and they were very pleased with the Mikata Five Lakes, so it likely became a wonderful memory for them.
