Wakey Wakey Bakery, which just opened on Friday, October 17, 2025, is now featured on the Shobara Tourism Navi website!

The shop name comes from the English word “Wakey,” meaning wake-up and used like a cheerful call to small children. It reflects the owner Rina Nagai’s personal touch—she studied abroad at a university in the State of California. Her wish is simple: to make bread that people want to eat as soon as they wake up, comforting and part of everyday life.
The breads on offer use Rina’s original recipes, refined with techniques she learned while working at a bakery in the United States to bring out each item’s flavor. The most popular items are two character breads inspired by a Shiba Inu: Shiba-san (custard) and Nikukyuu Punch (chocolate). Inspired by childhood visits to bakeries with her parents, where character breads captured her imagination, she wanted to create breads that excite children.

Sosho Sato Main Store in Jinsekikogencho began in the Meiji era as a general shop stocking rubber boots, candles and daily necessities. The second branch, We Higashijo Store, opened in Tojo Town, Shobara City, offering books, CDs and stationery.

More than a bookstore, the store also houses a hair salon, a cosmetics section, an esthetic room and a coin laundry, making it indispensable to the local community. Recently, Tomonori Sato began carefully selecting and selling food items and local sake. The store also runs unique initiatives you won’t find elsewhere, from events to original book covers. ✨

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Amakusa area designation within Unzen-Amakusa National Park on July 20, 2026 (Reiwa 8), the two-day cycling event "Amaichi Grand Fond 2025: Around Amakusa" will be held 🚴
Grandfond, an Italian term for long-distance cycling events, is not about racing against the clock. Riders go at their own pace, enjoy rest stops and meals at aid stations, and take in spectacular views along the way.

Location: Amakusa area, Kumamoto Prefecture (Amakusa City, Kamiamakusa City, Reihoku)

【Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture】Eat the river! Sweetfish! Eel! River shrimp! Gori! "Traditional fishing method" that is close to the Shimanto River

Introducing the traditional fishing methods passed down by river fishermen in the Shimanto River. We will introduce the important culture of the river basin that is close to the river and appreciates the blessings of the river.

〇Traditional fishing method of the Shimanto River
The traditional fishing method of the Shimanto River has been carefully passed down by Local river fishermen, and it continues to be a part of daily life, changing its shape little by little with changes in the environment. The bounty of the Shimanto River, such as sweetfish, eel, scampi shrimp, and aosanori, adds color to the family table every season, and is deliciously cooked by skilled chefs in Shimanto City to delight the taste buds of tourists. It is also processed in various ways and is popular as a Souvenir.

〇 Look at the river, eat the river
If you take a leisurely stroll along the Shimanto River, you can see eels and scampi shrimp submerged in water from the Submersible Bridge. Depending on the season, you may meet people fishing for sweetfish in the river or fishing in riverboats. There may be a gori fishing device lined with stones on the riverbank, or the harvest of green nori is just taking place at the mouth of the river. If you take the time to look at the Shimanto River, you will encounter something "river and human activities". And at night, you can enjoy the Ingredients harvested by the contraptions you actually saw in the river at the restaurant. It is a different way to enjoy the "familiar" Shimanto River.

〇 Introduction of traditional fishing methods
・Fire fishing of sweetfish
