Every year on May 3rd, the traditional Hayase Children’s Kabuki takes place. This boys’ elementary school children’s kabuki has been passed down for about 150 years. It is said to have started when kabuki performances by children were offered at local temples and shrines in Hayase to appease a cholera outbreak during the Edo period.

Date and time: Saturday, May 3, 2025 (National Holiday) from around 8:30 AM
Location: In front of Hayase Hiyoshi Shrine and in front of Zuirin-ji Temple

After the children’s kabuki is offered in front of Hiyoshi Shrine, the float will be pulled to Zuirin-ji Temple where another children’s kabuki offering will take place.
