The Yukata Is an Essential Item of Clothing for Summer Festivals and Hot Spring Trips! Learn the Tips and Tricks of Putting on a Yukata! We’ll Teach You How!
Life & Business- 100 plays
- YouTube
Let's Try on a Traditional Japanese Yukata! This video "Yukata and Obi (帯) belt fitting tutorial by hataori(自分でできる浴衣の着付けと帯結び by hataori)" was created by Official Hataori and shows you in detailed steps how to put on a yukata and obi belt. Yukata are traditional garments that have been worn and loved by Japanese people for centuries. There are several occasions when one can wear a yukata, such as during summer festivals when women dress in gorgeous, colorful yukata or at hot springs or public baths where men tend to wear more plain and simply decorated yukata. However, as they aren't worn very often, there aren't many people who know the correct way to put on a yukata by themselves. This video will teach you in detail how to correctly put on a yukata. Hopefully this video comes in handy the next time you have the opportunity to wear a yukata! The History of Japan's Yukata Photo:Women wearing yukata It is thought that over 1200 years ago, during the Heian Period (794-1185AD), yukata were worn as bathrobes called Yukatabira (湯帷子). Aristocrats at the time would have worn them as they bathed. During the Muromachi Period (1336-1573AD) and Edo Period (1603-1868 AD) lightweight, cotton versions of these bathrobes were worn not during, but after bathing. During the latter half of the Edo Period, it became common for people to wear yukata as more casual clothing such as when taking short trips. Tips on How to Wear a Yukata Source :YouTube screenshot From 0:22 in the video you can see how to put on a yukata. There are many small items that are essential for women when putting on a yukata, such as a Datejime (伊達締), Obiita (帯板), Obi, Obihimo (帯紐), Geta (下駄) or Zori (草履). It helps to have clips or belts to help hold things in place when putting on your yukata and also helps prevent the yukata from falling out of place. One very important item when putting on your yukata is a Koshihimo (腰紐), a cord tied around the waist that helps adjust the length of your yukata. The most elegant way to wear a yukata is to adjust the length so that the yukata is just covering the ankles. Please refer to 0:55 in the video to see how to tie a Koshihimo. When wearing a kimono, an extra layer of clothing called a Hadajuban (肌襦袢) is worn underneath the kimono. However, this is unnecessary when wearing a yukata. Source :YouTube screenshot From 3:00 in the video, you can see how to put on a Munehimo (cord wrapped around the chest area). Once the yukata is in place, it's time to wrap the Obi belt. You can see this from 5:59 in the video. For more detailed information on how to tie an obi belt, please refer to the instructions in the video. We recommended wearing your hair in a refreshing up-do when wearing a yukata. A handheld Japanese fan, such as a Sensu (扇子) or Uchiwa (団扇), also looks great with a yukata. How to Tie an Obi Belt Photo:Kimono belt There are a variety of ways to tie an obi belt. For women who are wearing a colorful yukata in the summer to a special event such as a fireworks display, we recommended tying the obi in a ribbon shape using the Bunko musubi (文庫結び) or Chou musubi (蝶結び). Once you are used to tying an obi belt, you can attempt the more difficult Hana musubi (花結び). The Kakuobi musubi (角帯結び) style of obi is typically worn by men. Yukata Fitting Summary Photo:Women wearing yukata In summer, you will find many stores selling yukata sets and there are also places where you can rent a yukata for the day. If you choose to rent a yukata, there may be someone who can help you get dressed into it, so please take advantage of this opportunity. Taking a walk outside wearing a yukata, especially one you managed to put on yourself, is sure to be a great feeling! Please make sure to use this video the next time you decide to wear a yukata! Just watching the video we're sure you'll learn something new! -

Introducing the Wild Brown Bears of Hokkaido This video, titled “Encountering Wild Brown Bears that are Catching Salmon @ Shiretoko Hokkaido 20131010(野生のヒグマと遭遇 サケを捕食@北海道 知床 20131010)” films two wild brown bears catching salmon that were swimming in the river. A brown bear is terrestrial mammal of the Ursidae family and their size is about the same as polar bears. Sub-species of foreign brown bears include Kodiak bears, Grizzly bears and Himalayan bears. The main sub-spices of brown bears which inhabit Hokkaido are called Ezo brown bears. This video is of wild Ezo brown bears catching salmon at the river, and it is a very rare sight. We hope you enjoy their fishing skills! What Kind of Animal Is the Ezo Brown Bear? Photo:Ezo brown bear One of the most well-known bears in Japan is the Asian black bear. These black bears actually inhabit the main island of japan. Ezo brown bears, on the other hand, inhabit forests in Hokkaido where the climate is generally colder. Ussuri brown bears are another bear that is a subspecies of brown bears. The Ussuri brown bear is also known as the Ezo brown bear. The size differs depending on the gender, with male bears being about 1.9 to 2.3 meters tall and weighing 120 kg to 250 kg. Female bears are about 1.6 to 1.8 meters tall, and are actually heavier than than males, weighing between 150 to 160 kg. Some of them are gigantic, weighing in at 450 kg. The Ezo brown bears inhabiting Japan are the largest kind of terrestrial animal in Japan. The number of Ezo brown bears is around 2,244 to 6,476 (as of 2013). The bears are known as omnivorous, and they like to eat fish, meat, and plants as well. The life span of a wild Ezo brown bear is about 30 years. They tend to live longer than different mammals. Highlights of Ezo Brown Bears Source :YouTube screenshot The video shows the viewers two Ezo brown bears hunting salmon at a river. It was filmed in October when the bears were getting ready for hibernation. From 4:21 in the video, we can see bears using both of their paws to catch salmon. At 0:18, one bear carries a salmon to the side of the river. At 4:54, the bears bring salmon ashore and comfortably enjoy their meals in peace. You'll be surprised by what happens at the end. Be sure to watch the full video so you don't miss out! The bears were so focused on their hunting that they didn't show any fear of the people filming them. Its incredibly rare that we see footage of Hokkaido's wild brown bears hunting. Be Aware of Wild Bears When Traveling to Hokkaido! Photo: Beware of Bears In Hokkaido, A study has been conducted to work on how to handle wild Ezo brown bears and ways of coexisting with them. There are several cases of humans being attacked by wild bears in Hokkaido. If you visit Hokkaido, please be aware that there are wild bears and research the areas in advance. Before your travels, please make sure that there are no wild bear alerts in the area you are traveling to. In order to keep bears away, have bells or turn on a radio to show them that humans are around. If you do encounter a wild bear, just think that bears are also afraid of humans. Screaming makes the bear scared, and it will enter into a defensive mode, and might try to attack you. Avoid running away from bears because bears tend to chase what’s running away from them. They can run up to 60km/h so the chance that they will catch you is extremely high . Instead of running away or screaming, try standing up on top of a rock or a log to make you look bigger and be intimidating. The most effective way to keep the bears away is to use a bear spray. Some people think bears are cute animals, and while this may be true, they are also dangerous as well. Please keep this in mind. Summary of Hokkaido's Wild Brown Bears If you are interested in learning more about brown bears, please visit a zoo, such as the Noboribetsu bear park, or the Showa Shinzan bear ranch. “Higuma Doughnuts” is a cafe in Meguro, Tokyo which uses selected ingredients from Hokkaido where brown bears live. If you visit Hokkaido, please visit a gift store to purchase some Hokkaido souvenirs. Be sure to check out the Ezo brown bears, the video is too adorable to miss! -

Introducing "Lady" "C571 SL Yamaguchi-go - Lady's return!- 2019 Oct 19-20(C571 SLやまぐち号 【貴婦人完全復活!】 2019.10.19-20)" is a 4K video that captures the steam train that runs between Shin-Yamaguchi Station and Tsuwano (Yamaguchi Prefecture) on the JR West Yamaguchi Line. In 2019, SL Yamaguchi-go celebrated its 40th anniversary since its return. A commemorative event held at the relevant stations and in the train, attracted many fans. The old-fashioned steam train chugging along with smoke coming out of its stack, its whistle, and the steam shooting out the side is spectacular to watch. Enjoy the video of the retro-chic locomotive train. About the Steam Locomotive, SL Yamaguchi-go Photo:The SL Yamaguchi-go C571 The steam train C571 was withdrawn from mainline service in 1965, but made a comeback in 1979 owing to the passionate requests from local enthusiasts and steam locomotive fans. As of November 2019, it runs between Shin-Yamaguchi and Tsuwano that takes about 2 hours and only runs on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. This elegant machine is popularly known as "Lady". Steam Locomotives are powered by a steam engine: The water contained in a boiler turns into steam when heated, and creates high pressure. Because of this, steam locomotives puff black smoke and big gray clouds of steam when they depart (seen in the video from 1:21). The video shows the SL Yamaguchi-go running through the autumn landscapes in the area stretching between Yamaguchi city and Tsuwano. Cosmos flowers swaying in the wind along the track present an astonishing coincidence of mixed colors, making a fine contrast with the black body of the steam train (from 6:25). You can take beautiful pictures of the SL Yamaguchi-go when it crosses Tsuwano Bridge, or passes by Honmonmae Crossing, Nakaza Crossing, or Nayoshi District. The impressive sight of the train making a turn on the railway turntable also offers a perfect photo opportunity. The SL Yamaguchi-go typically pulls 5 coaches, but occasionally gets double-headed with another steam locomotive, D51200 (Degoichi) -

Please note that there are no accommodations or shops on the island. The Problem With the "Cat Paradise," Aoshima Most cats that live on Aoshima are strays, so many cats have not been fixed, and you can still see kittens, as you can see at 7:35 in the video. An increase in the number of cats and the deterioration of the environment are 2 of the island's major problems. Aoshima has a small population, and it's possible that ferries to the island may be stopped in the future. If there is no one left on the island, cat management and feeding problems may occur. Because of this, immediate action is required. When tourists travel to Aoshima by ferry, they must follow rules, such as cleaning up their garbage and feeding limits. -

High-Speed Mochi Pounding by Japan's Fastest Mochi Master
Food & Drink Celebrities- 314 plays
- YouTube
The Whole World Is Watching! The Amazing Technique of ‘High-Speed Mochi Pounding’! Japanese food culture, ‘Washoku’ was registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and is currently gaining attention worldwide. Recently, Japan has been welcoming a lot of foreign tourists whose main purpose is enjoying Japanese food culture. Mochi rice cakes are one of the most popular foods among the attractive Washoku. To make a delicious rice cake, it is not only important to pay attention to the ingredients, but also to the way it is prepared. Mochi Pounding is essential to creating great tasting rice cakes. ‘Mochi-tsuki,’ is a tradition of using a large mortar and pestle (in this case a mallet) to make mochi on New Year's day. Photo:Mochi pounding Have you ever seen high-speed mochi pounding? It's performed at Nakatani-dou, a Japanese confectioner, in Nara prefecture. Two or three confectioners pound mochi rice cakes using a mortar and mallet together at extremely high speeds, exchanging shouts to encourage one another. ‘Mochi-pounding at high speed’ is not only a performance for onlookers, but it is also an ideal method to make tasty mochi. You'll be baffled at the speed and accuracy of these mochi makers! High-Speed Mochi Pounding- Reasons for Pounding Mochi at Such High Speeds Source :YouTube screenshot Mochi-tsuki requires both a kaeshite, (mochi turner) and a tsukite, (mochi-pounder). It also requires a high level of skill to pound the rice evenly in the mortar, and the skill to control the moisture content of the rice by matching the movements of the pounder. When the temperature of steamed mochi-gome (a kind of rice suitable for mochi rice cake) becomes low, mochi may not have its ideal texture and easily falls apart and won't stretch well. Quickly pounding the rice while it is hot enough to keep it soft and stretchy results in a tasty rice cake with a rich flavor. ‘Mochi-pounding at high speed’ has its origin in Kamikitayama-mura village, Yoshino-gun, Nara prefecture where the Nakatani family is from. It is a traditional Japanese method that reflects the local history and culture. The master mochi-pounder is particular about the tools he uses for mochi pounding. The mortar, made by an artisan in Sakai city, is specially designed to be shallow so that the turner can easily turn mochi. The kine pestle should be heavy enough to pound mochi with its own weight. The master mochi-pounder of Nakatani-dou has various preferences for mochi-tsuki. They are shown in the video. Only the Best Ingredients Source :Nakatani-dou Yomogi-mochi is one of the most popular confectioneries of Nakatani-dou. The master mochi-pounder is very particular about the ingredients of Yomogi-mochi, as well as the mochi-pounding method. They use Hiyoku-mochigome rice from Saga prefecture to make good mochi rice cakes and also use top quality azuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido, along with young Yomogi (mugwort) leaves from Uwajima, Ehime prefecture. Yomogi-mochi is the result of a quest for excellence in cooking methods, ingredients, and taste. Summary of High-Speed Mochi Pounding Being shown on TV, ‘Mochi-pounding at high speed’ performed by the master mochi-pounder of Nakatani-dou attracted the national attention. And now, is gaining popularity from overseas as well, introduced by foreign media. The high-speed rice cake pounding by the masters of Nakatido, who drew the attention of the whole country with their amazing feats of craftsmanship on TV, has recently been picked up by international media and is becoming increasingly popular. Nakatido's high-speed mochitsuki chefs are not only popular in Japan, but also among people around the world. Nakatido says in the video that he wants his customers to be happy when they see the high-speed mochi pounding and even more happy when they eat it. These are words of someone who truly loves, and is dedicated to their craft. As a Japanese citizen, I am proud to see not only Japanese food, which is listed as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, but also Japanese culture being admired by the world. 【Official Homepage】Nakatani-dou http://www.nakatanidou.jp/english/ -

How to get there? The Sanja Matsuri is held in Taito-ku, Tokyo, mainly in the 44 townships that are the Ujiko of the Asakusa Shrine. It is usually held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the third week of May every year. In 2024, it will be held from May 17 to May 19. Asakusa Shrine is a 7-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line/Toei Subway Asakusa Line. Please also enjoy the downtown area from the station. The Sanja Matsuri, which is becoming increasingly popular not only in Japan but also overseas, is now one of the most popular events in Japan. Sanja Matsuri: Day 1 Source :YouTube screenshot The first day of Sanja Matsuri starts with “Daigyoretsu Parade.” Beginning with a float accompanied by music, a line of chic Edokko (people born and raised in Edo), dressed as geisha and egrets, parade along the routes in each town of Asakusa. You can see this scene from 2:14 in the video. You especially don't want to miss the “Binzasara Dance,” the dance of rice planting. “Binzasara” is a traditional music instrumental made of 108 thin layers of Japanese cypress boards. Here, participants pray for a good harvest by dancing with the sound of Binzasara. The Binzasara Dance is also designated as an important intangible folk-cultural property of Tokyo; It is a special event you can see only at this festival. After that, the ceremony of transferring the Omi-Tama to the shrine of each town council, is held. Sanja Matsuri: Day 2 Source :YouTube screenshot On the 2nd day of Asakusa Sanja Matsuri, the event called "Mikoshi Togyo" is held by the 44 parishioners of Asakusa. A mikoshi is a portable shrine on which a god or a spirit rides during festivals. In the afternoon, approximately 100 “Portable Town Shrines (町内神輿, Chonai Mikoshi)” owned by 44 towns of Asakusa undergo a purification ceremony at Asakusa Shrine one by one. Then, Edokko carry Mikoshi together and walk around the town energetically. All the portable shrines are put behind the main hall of Sensoji Temple, so it is a very good spot to take some photos. It's definitely worth seeing the view of the 100 portable shrines. You can take some great pictures here as well! You can see this scene from 4:32 in the video. In the video, Mr. Hamasaki says that the events held on the 2nd day are practice for carrying the portable shrines on the following day. He also says that there are no rules for shouts; As long as everyone enjoys carrying the shrines, it's fine. Usually the area around Kaminarimon Gate is full of tourists. During the festival, however, many Edokko gather in this area to carry portable shrines. You can see some great scenes from 9:30 in the video. After that, you can see the female shrine maidens’ dance performance at Kagura Hall (神楽殿, Kaguraden). Sanja Matsuri: Day 3 On the final day of Asakusa Sanja Matsuri, you can see the main portable shrine (本社神輿, Honja Mikoshi) of Asakusa Shrine. The portable shrines where gods ride are called “Miya.” The three portable shrines are called “the first palace (一之宮, Ichino Miya),” “the second palace (二之宮, Nino Miya),” and “the third palace, (三之宮, Sanno Miya).” And taking the palaces out of each Mikoshi is called “Miyadashi.” People first move three spirits to the three portable shrines, and then they walk around the towns of Asakusa while carrying each portable shrine. Many people vie for handles of portable shrines wildly, which Mr. Hamasaki says the best part of Sanja Matsuri. However, Miyadashi, carrying Mikoshi out of the shrine, starts at 6 a.m. Moreover, people are not allowed to go inside Asakusa Shrine during this time. If you want to watch this scene with the best possible view, we recommend staying at a hotel in the area the day before the event. At 12:58 in the video, Mr. Hamasaki says that it is fun for visitors to watch Mikoshi Togyo because it is a participation type festival that is very close to the audience. On the same day, you can also see the ceremony of spirits returning from portable shrines, female attendants dancing, and the dance offering accompanied by a Japanese drum performance. Food at Asakusa Sanja Matsuri Don’t forget the food stalls at the festival! Enjoying street food is another fun part of Sanja Matsuri.
