Roro Kurofune, a confectionery about a 10-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station, has just won the top prize at the National Confectionery Expo °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
The award-winning item is the Kaikoku Caramel Monaka.
It’s a personal favorite of mine: homemade caramel densely packed with walnuts delivers an irresistible bite.
I highly recommend it for anyone puzzling over souvenirs ✨
Although they are wagashi artisans, Roro Kurofune also creates sweets with a Western feel, and they offer seasonal limited items that make you want to keep coming back.
Another must-try is the wasanbon pudding.
Also fun is the Kuro-Mona, where you inject sweet bean paste into a crispy monaka shell yourself (the paste is added just before eating so it stays crunchy), and bite-sized cookies dusted with wasanbon sugar called "Koko Shimoda"... the recommendations never end 💦
The shop is lined with many other confections (≧▽≦)
When you visit Shimoda, please stop by and discover your own Roro Kurofune sweets!

From Saturday, July 19th, ten beaches in the city will open in sequence.✨
Shimoda offers a variety of distinctive beaches—from Sotoura Beach and Nabedahama, popular with families, to Tatadohama and Shirahama Ohama, favored by surfers—so you’re sure to find the perfect beach for you.👀✨🏖️
The swimming status of each beach will be updated on the Shimoda City Tourism Association website from July 19th.🌊
We do not provide advance forecasts about whether beaches will be open for swimming.
Decisions are made based on the day’s sea conditions, such as weather, wave height, and wind strength.
Therefore, swimming permissions may change during the day as conditions change, switching from allowed to prohibited or vice versa.
For the latest swimming information, please check the Shimoda City Tourism Association website as well as on-site notices and instructions from lifeguards, and enjoy the beach with safety in mind.

Notice of the End of the After Hydrangea Festival
The hydrangeas floated in the tanks around the monument at Izukyu Shimoda Station rotary were well received by many visitors, and for a brief while everyone could enjoy a beautiful sight 💐✨
Although the display was originally scheduled to run until Tuesday, July 16, we decided to remove the flowers on the evening of Friday, July 11 due to consecutive days of extreme heat.
This being the first attempt at this exhibition, we conducted the trial under three challenging conditions—hydrangeas past their peak in the garden, near-summer temperatures, and water—while worrying how long the blossoms could remain beautiful. We implemented all possible measures, including rotating flowers and topping up the tanks, but under the midsummer-like sun it proved difficult to preserve their beauty, so we made the decision to end the display earlier than planned.
We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to it and ask for your understanding.
Next fun thing in Shimoda: swimming at the beach 🏖️
Please continue to enjoy everything Shimoda has to offer 🌊🍧🎐
