Tsukiji Outer Market's "Monzeki Street" The video “A view of Monzeki Street in the Tsukiji Outer Market(【街並み】築地場外市場 もんぜき通り),” introduces Monzeki Street in the Tsukiji Outer Market. Monzeki Street is a shopping avenue in the Tsukiji Outer Market located in Tsukiji, Chuoku, in Tokyo. The original Tsukiji Wholesale Market moved to Toyosu Market in October 2018, but the Tsukiji Outer Market is still open in the same location in Tsukiji even after the original Tsukiji Market moved. The street is located on the north side of the Ichibabashi intersection, along the Tsukiji 4-chome and 6-chome Shin Ohashi Street between the Tsukiji 4-chome and Shijoubashi intersections. There are over 30 shops on the street, and it is the most popular sightseeing spot at the Tsukiji Outer Market. The name of the street “Monzeki” comes from the Monzeki Bridge that used to be in Tsukiji. Explore the Popular Tsukiji Monzeki Street Source :YouTube screenshot There are a lot of restaurants that are originally for people who work in the Tsukiji Outer Market, so many restaurants serve quick delicious lunches with a stand-and-eat style. The shopping avenue is an arcade and close to Ginza. People enjoy a variety of food from different food stands as they walk along the streets. There are also many kinds of restaurants, such as ramen restaurants, seafood restaurants, coffee shops, and restaurants featuring cheap and delicious food. Well-Known Stores/Restaurants on Monzeki Street Source :YouTube screenshot There are well-known sushi restaurants and many other famous shops on Monzeki street. Here, we'll introduce a few of them. The first one, shown at 0:37, is Kitsuneya, a restaurant that specializes in offal meat. Their specialty is "Hormone-Don," a bowl of beef offal cooked using their signature red miso sauce over rice. The ramen restaurant Inoue, which you can see in the video around 2:04, is a famous ramen restaurant in Tsukiji. Inoue has been in business for 50 years. Unfortunately, it is currently closed due to a fire (as of July 2020). In the video you can see a line of people waiting at Inoue; not an uncommon sight with how popular the restaurant is, Also, the ramen restaurant Wakaba (in the video around 0:23) is famous in Tsukiji as well. The curry restaurant Sakaeya next to Wakaba is an amazing curry restaurant, and our personal recommendation. The Tsukiji Outer Market is known for its Kaisendon (seafood bowls). Maguro Donburi Segawa is THE place for Kaisendon. You can see it in the video around 0:25. Their only menu, a bowl of tuna marinated with homemade soy-sauce-based sauce, is so delicious it was featured on the popular TV show "Ado Machikku Tengoku." Photo:Tamagoyaki Some of the best tamagoyaki restaurants in Tokyo are located on Monzeki street, including Marutake, the home of TV producer and personality Terry Ito, as well as Tsukiji Yamacho, Tsukiji Shoro and Daisada. Maguro no Miyako is famous for its grilled seafood. Their fresh seafood and grilled scallops are to die for. Sightseeing at the Tsukiji Outer Market Photo:Tsukiji Outer Market Monzeki street, at the Tsukiji Outer Market, is also popular among tourists from overseas. There is the information center "Platt Tsukiji" that introduces tourist destinations for international visitors. They also distribute a map of the Tsukiji Outer Market as well as other information. They also have a coin locker where you can leave your baggage and walk around the Tsukiji Outer Market. You're not allowed to carry a suitcase on Monzeki Street so the facility is very convenient for people coming directly from overseas or out of town. Let’s Visit Tsukiji Outer Market's Monzeki Street! What'd you think? We introduced a lot of famous restaurants at the Tsukiji Outer Market. There's places that are great not just for sightseeing, but also for dates or just walking around and trying food vendors. Enjoy the atmosphere of the Tsukiji Outer Market through the video! Other than restaurants, there are also vegetable stands, clothing shops, and dried fruit shops on the street so you can enjoy browsing around and hunting souvenirs. 【Tripadvisor】Tsukiji Outer Market https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g14129610-d1373675-r716204248-Tsukiji_Jogai_Market-Tsukiji_Chuo_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html -

Tokyo's popular sightseeing spot: Meiji Jingu This 4-minute long video, titled "Meiji-Jingu – Tokyo - 4K Ultra HD," was released by "Tokyo Street View – Japan The Beautiful." It is an introductory video of Meiji Jingu and introduces the highlights of the magnificent shrine. Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine) is a shrine located in the Yoyogi area of Tokyo's Shibuya ward (渋谷区代々木), which attracts many tourists from both inside and outside of Japan and is a spot you should definitely add to your itinerary when traveling in Tokyo. It is the most popular shrine in Japan for "hatsumode" (初詣, the first shrine visit of the year), with more visitors each year than any other shrine in Japan. It is also a popular spot for weddings and other celebrations, such as "Shichi-Go-San" (七五三). In the opening of the video, you can see the giant torii gate made from a 1,500 year old Japanese cypress tree. If you take a look at the view from beyond the torii gate, you'll see why this shrine was selected as one of the top 20 sightseeing spots in Japan by the Michelin Guide. Passing Through Meiji Jingu's Torii Gate Photo:Meiji Jingu, Tokyo The giant torii gate found at Meiji Jingu is the largest of its kind in Japan. Beyond the gate there is a small bridge and on the left hand side you can see many decorative sake barrels. Different brands have been gathered from all over Japan, and it makes for a very impressive display. Emperor Meiji was also known to enjoy drinking wine, and interestingly, many French wine barrels can also be found at the entrance to the shrine. Be sure to stay on the lookout for them when you visit. They can be seen at 0:33 in the video. After passing through the south gate (Minami Shinmon (南神門)) the main shrine will come into sight. From 2:21 in the video, you can see the famous tree known as Meoto Kusu (夫婦楠) which is believed to bring good luck in marriage, as well as many Ema boards. If you look at the wall, you will see many beautiful "kakizome" (書初め, the first calligraphy of the year). A Cafe in a Power Spot?! The History of Meiji Jingu's Inner Garden and Recommended Spots Photo:Irises in the Garden Meiji Jingu consists of the inner garden in Shibuya, which has a shrine and the shrine's grounds, and the outer garden in Shinjuku Ward, which has sports and cultural facilities. Meiji Jingu, was built on November 1st, 1920 in honor of the 122nd emperor of Japan, Emperor Meiji (明治天皇) and his wife Empress Shoken (昭憲皇太后). With a surface area equivalent to 15 Tokyo Domes, Inori no Mori (祈りの社) has been donated 100,000 trees from all over the country in an effort to increase the beautiful natural surroundings of the area. The area is scattered with spots you'll want to snap a picture of to post and share on social media! Another highlight of Meiji Jingu is its Imperial Garden (明治神宮御苑) which in June is covered with blossoming Japanese Irises. "Kiyomasa's Well" (清正の井戸) is a famous power spot inside the garden, and in recent years an increasing number of people are using the image as a wallpaper on their phones in the hope that it will bring them good luck. Other famous spots around Meiji Jingu include the turtle-shaped rock "Kameishi" (亀石) and the martial arts building "Shiseikan" (至誠館). If you're interested in learning more about the history of Meiji Jingu, we highly recommend visiting the adjacent Meiji Shrine Museum (明治神宮ミュージアム). For lunch, we recommend the delicious sandwiches served at Cafe Mori no Terrace (CAFÉ 杜のテラス). Meiji Jingu is open from sunrise to sunset, therefore the opening times vary depending on the time of year. Please check the official website for more information regarding hours. You can also find information on shrine etiquette and "Go-shuin" (御朱印) on the same website. Gingko Trees in Fall - Meiji Jingu's Outer Garden Photo:Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue Meiji Jingu's outer garden features a variety of sports facilities, including a driving range, tennis court, and baseball field. Access to the area is great, and there's also a hotel parking lot in the vicinity. Many baseball competitions are held at Meiji Jingu Baseball Stadium, which is home to the Yakult Swallows, as well as the annual Jingu Gaien Fireworks Festival (神宮外苑花火大会). A spot we highly recommend in the outer garden area is the row of Gingko trees leading up to the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery (聖徳記念絵画館). In November, just as the leaves are turning red, the whole area is lit up making it a great place to take a photo. Every year, more than 1.8 million people take part in the Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Festival (神宮外苑 いちょう祭り). Meiji Jingu Summary Photo:Meiji Jingu We hope you enjoyed this introductory video featuring the highlights of Meiji Jingu's inner and outer gardens. At 3:00 in the video, you can hear the sound of people visiting the shrine. Enjoy the sights, sounds, spiritual atmosphere of Meiji Jingu! 【Official Website】Meiji Jingu https://www.meijijingu.or.jp/en/ 【Tripadvisor】Meiji Jingu https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1066456-d1373780-Reviews-Meiji_Jingu_Shrine-Shibuya_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html -

The main approach to the shrine, the fifth torii gate, Shinmon gate, the kagura hall, and the ceremony hall, all of which can be seen from 0:20 in the video, are also places we recommend stopping by when visiting Hakone Shrine. Popular spots that you won't want to pass up are Anzu-sugi (a cedar tree to pray for safe childbirth), Soga Shrine, the fourth torii gate, the Kagura Repository, the lake-bottom tree, the Ebisu Shrine, and the torii of peace. The History of Hakone Shrine and When It Was Built Photo:Ryujinsui at Kuzuryu Shrine, Kanagawa Prefecture Hakone Shrine has a long history, and it is even mentioned in books from the Kamakura Period (~1185-1333 AD). Many warlords have visited and worshipped in Hakone. In particular, Minamoto no Yoritomo is said to have worshipped at Hakone Shrine. It was burned down once by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but the shrine’s main building was rebuilt by Tokugawa Ieyasu. A new shrine, which can be seen at 3:03 in the video, was built at Kuzuryu Shrine and many people still come to visit it today. From Shinjuku, the Odakyu Line runs to Hakone-Yumoto, and the Odakyu Romancecar is a very popular train. It takes about 85 minutes to reach Hakone-Yumoto from Shinjuku. On weekends, many people enjoy the sightseeing boats on Lake Ashinoko and the hot springs where you can relax. In addition to the tourist attractions, we also recommend visiting festivals, such as the Hakone Shrine Setsubun Festival and the Kosui Festival. Hakone Shrine, Hakone Motomiya Shrine, and Kuzuryu Shrine are known as Hakone Sanja Mairi (箱根三社参り, Hakone Three Shrine Visit), and many people visit all three shrines. We also recommend picking up a shuin stamp and buying omamori charms for good luck and for souvenirs. Hakone, with its high elevation, has many viewpoints from which you can see Suruga Bay, the Izu Peninsula, Sagami Bay, and the Shonan coast when the weather is favorable. Introducing Shibuya Center-Gai Basketball Street! This article focuses on one of the landmarks of Shibuya, "Basketball street"(渋谷の象徴的な通り”バスケットボールストリート”に着目。渋谷駅前交差点からセンター街を散策). The 4K video navigates us through the famous pedestrian walkway starting from Shibuya Scramble. Shibuya features many shopping attractions such as Inokashira street, Bunkamura street or the Dougenzaka area which is always crammed with people, from shoppers, to teenagers, to tourists. Among them, Basketball street is the central hub for the teenage fashion culture known as "Shibuya Kei"(loosely translated as Shibuya style). The Features of Shibuya Center-Gai Basketball Street Photo:Shibuya Center Street Main Street Shibuya Center-gai Basketball street is a shopping street located in Udagawacho, Shibuya. Walking across the Shibuya Scramble after passing through the hustle and bustle of Shibuya Station Hachiko Exit, you are greeted by the entrance archway of Center-gai Basketball street. In 2011, the main street of Shibuya Center-gai was renamed to Basketball street as part of public safety improvement efforts. The main reason of the name change was to refresh the stereotype associated with the area where juvenile delinquents (known as "Teamer" or "Ganguro") used to roam around in groups. The new name reflects the local aim to develop an ideal, healthy hangout for the youth. The name, however, hasn't really taken off even among Japanese people yet. How to Enjoy Shibuya Center-Gai Basketball Street Photo:109 Shibuya Center-gai Basketball street is probably the busiest street in Japan. Many fashion department stores are lined up in the neighborhood, such as 109, Seibu Department Store, Parco and Tokyu hands. The street consists of a strange mix of shops like fast-food restaurants such as McDonald's, eateries including the ones specialized in ramen or bubble tea, big record stores like TSUTAYA, and entertainment spots catering to teenagers like arcades or photo booth machine stores (known as purikura machines). The Shibuya Scramble appears at the beginning of the video, and from 0:47, viewers are taken to Shibuya Center-gai Basketball street that runs between TSUTAYA and Taiseido Bookstore. Although 9 years has passed since the street was renamed, the entrance archway sign in the video still displays the old name, "Shibuya Center-gai". The video takes for a ride through the lively street. Events at Shibuya Center-Gai Basketball Street! Don’t Miss the Amazing “Bo-Taoshi,” the Specialty of the National Defense Academy of Japan! Punch! Kick! Throw! Is This a Martial Art? A Fight? Nope, Just an Authentic Academy Event!
Sports- 544 plays

"Bo-Taoshi," the Famous Sport Played by Students of the National Defense Academy of Japan This video was created by ‘wasabiesince2002’ and was entitled ‘Punch! Kick! Hurl! And choke! "Bo-taoshi" of National Defense Academy of Japan is a combat sport!! 2013 National Defense Academy of Japan, the 61st Founding of the Academy Memorial Festival, Bo-taoshi, 1st Match, 1st Game, No.4(殴る!蹴る!投げる!絞める!防衛大学校の棒倒しは格闘技だ!! H25年 防衛大学校 第61回 開校記念祭 棒倒し 第1回戦第一試合 No.4)’. Usually locked by airtight gates leaving common people with no clue on what’s inside, the National Defense Academy of Japan, introduced in this video, is, in a sense, an unexplored location left in modern-day Japan. Annually, the academy hosts a famous event that is broadcast on TV as well. That event is called "Bo-taoshi" and it is performed during the autumn academy festival: ‘Founding of the Academy Memorial Festival’. Bo-taoshi, that leaves spectators breathless, is more of a combat sport than something you'd see at a school festival. A chaotic brawl of punches, kicks, throws, and chokes leaves many injured! But watching this traditional sport, the students of the National Defense Academy of Japan don’t fail to assure that they are the guardians of Japan's future. Please enjoy the powerful battle between these future self-defense officers in the video. It's sure to be very exciting. The History of the Extreme "Bo-Taoshi" Photo:Self-Defense Officer Bo-taoshi is a traditional event with a long history played in the Imperial Military Academy, Imperial Military Air Force Academy, and the Imperial Naval Academy. It is a precious game that brings the history of modern Japan to the present. Bo-taoshi in the National Defense Academy has been played since 1954 at the ‘Founding of the Academy Festival’ and it is considered one of the three major games of the academy along with the ‘Cutter Games’ and ‘Long-Distance Running’. What Exactly Is "Bo-Taoshi’" Source :YouTube screenshot The autumn academy festival in National Defense Academy is similar to a sports festival. However, Bo-taoshi is a literal fight between youngsters, whose shoulders bare the burden of the security of Japan, and a town sports fesitval comes no where close to this level of brutality. The game is a team sport played by battalions. Each battalion, both the attacking and the defending side, consists of 150 people. The rules are simple: the pole, which is the target of attack, is erected at the center of the field and the attacking side wins if they manage to make it fall within 2 minutes. The defending students, equipped with headgear, first surround the pole and 1 person climbs to the upper end of the pole. Next, 4 students climb to the second stage. This can be seen from 0:10 in the video. At the fire of the starting pistol, the attacking battalion charges fiercely to the pole. This is shown from 1:11 in the video. The defending battalion prevents the charge, and the fight, quite literally, is on. The student at the top of the pole is forcefully brought down from 1:47, and you can see the ferocious onslaught of the attacking side as they attempt to knock the pole down. Some of the students shed tears after the competition, showing that this is the result of the rigorous training they do every day. Becoming the champion is an irreplaceable honor for them. Simple, Yet Complex! Bo-Taoshi and Its Refined Tactics Source :YouTube screenshot At a glance, the attack may seem like a reckless charge, but, in fact, it is thoroughly planned out into a sophisticated strategy. The defending battalion, too, consists of the robust and trained students of the National Defense Academy, so a reckless charge would easily be taken in stride. Because of this, the offense and defense plan out their tactics and act accordingly during the 2-minute game. Here, we'll introduce some basic strategies used in Bo-taoshi. ・Offense Scrum: The attacking battalion forms a scrum and leads the charge toward the pole. The scrum acts as stepping stones after the charge so pole attackers can jump over the barrier and get closer to the top of the pole. Pole attackers: Attackers who jump at the pole and attempt to bring it down. General support attackers: Do anything they can to weaken the defense of the defending battalion. ・Defense Pole support: Hold the pole in the upright position and keep it from being brought down. Ninja: This is the single man at the top of the pole who tries to kick off the pole attackers jumping onto the pole. Killers: Harass and interrupt the attacking enemies. Scrum Disablers: Do whatever they can to invalidate the scrum of the attacking battalion. The Warriors of the Future! Summary of Bo-Taoshi The National Defense Academy’s autumn festival, the ‘Founding of the Academy Memorial Festival,’ which is introduced in this video, is a very important event for the academy. On the day of the event, the academy will be open to the public and anyone can walk around campus. Booths and stands will open inside the property which make for a lively and exciting atmosphere perfect for a school festival. The main event is of course Bo-taoshi, the specialty of the National Defense Academy! Many people visit just for the sake of watching it! Battalions of 150 people brawl over the pole, punching and kicking, and the battalions wear shirts of different colors so that people can see what’s happening more easily. Spectators cheer on the team they want to win with a massive cheer or, at other times, by screaming. Please take your time and enjoy the spectacular game of Bo-taoshi shown throughout the video. 【Official Website】National Defense Academy of Japan – Ministry of Defense・Self-Defense Force https://www.mod.go.jp/nda/english/index.html -

Source :YouTube screenshot In the video, Emperor Akihito , the 125th emperor of Japan, expressed his desire to retire from his official duties. To summarize his feelings, he was prompted to consider abdicating before his death due to the fact fact that his age (82 at the time) was making it difficult for him to serve the nation as the symbolic emperor. Japan's Emperor System and Abdication Photo:General visit to the Imperial Palace Emperor Akihito's declaration had a great deal to do with Japan's Imperial House System and Law. Currently, the abdication of the throne is only carried out when the emperor at the time passes away. In order to make abdication possible, the Imperial House Law needs to be amended. As there had never been such a case in modern times, the abdication of the Emperor during his lifetime and next era name were carefully chosen. Subsequently, after extensive discussion, the abdication of the Emperor was approved by amending the laws of the Japanese Constitution to allow him to abdicate during his lifetime. In June 2017, the Special Imperial Household Law on the Abdication of the Emperor and Other Matters was promulgated and came into effect on April 30, 2019. Accordingly, on April 1, 2019, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga announced the new era name, "Reiwa." The abdication of the throne took place on April 30, and on May 1, Crown Prince Naruhito ascended the throne as the new Emperor of Japan. Summary of former Emperor Akihito's Public Address Photo:Japanese era The video message from Former Emperor Akihito, introduced here, expresses his feelings regarding his reasons for abdication.
