"Venison Festival!!!"
Following last year, the Venison Festival was held again!
Deer can eat crops and flowers,
and collisions with cars can cause accidents,
making them a troublesome presence.
However, in Nishiokoppe Village, where deer are relatively numerous,
some people are working not to treat deer simply as pests but to use them as a resource.
This event was part of those efforts,
a day to deliciously enjoy deer caught in Nishiokoppe right there in Nishiokoppe.
Some participants were village residents, but
the vast majority came from outside the village.
Whole roasts, stews, hamburgers and sausages.
Everything was superb, and many attendees came back for seconds and thirds.
Thank you to everyone who came!

Dance on the Night of Lanterns
In Nishiokoppe Village every year,
the Bon dance in the Kamiokoppe area takes place on the 14th
and the Bon dance in the Nishiokoppe area takes place on the 15th.
Some campers and riders
come to Nishiokoppe just for these two nights!
That makes us very happy.
To the beat of the drums,
we dance two songs: the children’s Bon dance and the Hokkai Bon Uta.
If you dance both fully, it easily runs over an hour.
Dancing for such a long time made me realize
how much energy it really takes.
And the best part of Bon dance is the costumes, right?
Who will come in what costume is a mystery until the day itself.
Seeing the adults go all out in costume
and dance in a circle somehow lifts your spirits.
A Bon dance festival for those who dance and those who don’t to enjoy.
Thank you to everyone for your hard work!

[Drawing Event]
After seeing Atelier Tanemaki's summer workshop on Instagram,
I thought, "I want to try this in Nishiokoppe too!" and planned an event.
With the help of people knowledgeable about art supplies
and lots of advice from those around us, we were able to make it happen!
We prepared a large sheet of paper measuring 2.5 m by 3.6 m.
It is larger than a single futon.
I had wanted to try drawing on such a large sheet for a long time,
but starting to draw something on a blank sheet makes you a little nervous.
This time the Library cooperated with us,
and we borrowed many picture books!
As in Atelier Tanemaki's workshop,
the drawing theme was "Creatures Underwater."
So we prepared around 20 picture books about fish, rivers, the sea, and related topics,
and began with a picture-book reading session.
As their imaginations grew, the children drew what they wanted.
Watching the large sheet gradually fill with drawings over the full two hours
was truly delightful.
Even younger children who were not used to paint
carefully chose colors and brush widths, and, unconcerned about getting messy, used their hands and feet to add color.
The finished artwork is now displayed inside the Library.
We would be very happy if you could see it in person.

[Stroll with the Gardener]
It was a perfect day for a walk…or rather, a hot, sunny day that felt almost scorching.
This event, a stroll through the Roadside Station Kamumu Flower Park, has continued since the days when the tourism role was handled by a former regional revitalization cooperative member.
This year we held it in August, when the flowers were at their peak!
The Nishiokoppe Village Flower Park is a natural garden that cherishes the whole cycle from budding to blooming and withering.
Plants are grown with the idea of flowers floating among foliage such as susuki grass and smartweed.
This time, familiar gardeners and plant-savvy locals joined the event.
Participants responded enthusiastically to the gardener’s explanations, and questions flew freely.
Even residents of the village sometimes rarely stop by the Roadside Station.
Local participants exclaimed in amazement, saying, “I didn’t know we could see so many different plants.”
We’re excited to see how the garden’s scenery will change into autumn.
The park is open until mid-October, so please enjoy the Flower Park when you stop by the Roadside Station.
