Sun pillar and diamond dust at Kirigamine, Nagano Prefecture
The 1/3 weather forecast predicted a temperature of −8°C and 80% humidity. Since snow had been forecast until 21:00 the night before, I thought it might appear and drove out.
By the time I arrived at 21:00, the snow had already stopped, but a light dusting of powdery snow had settled.
At 22:00 the car’s outside thermometer read −12°C, so I went to bed hoping the temperature would keep falling.
I hiked 600 m along the snowy road from the parking lot to the shooting point just after 6:00 in the morning.
The morning temperature was −12°C.
Mount Fuji was clearly visible.
There were clouds above Yatsugatake, but at 7:20 a sun pillar appeared above them.
I silently wished for it to appear below as well, and from around 7:24 the diamond dust began to sparkle.
The sun pillar lasted about 15 minutes, but the diamond dust continued to glitter afterward.
I had visited several times last year without success, so I was delighted to see it this time.

The view from the sanmon gate of Kojakuji Temple.
I love this view and often linger, but when the light comes in it fills with many people.
I waited until the crowd thinned to take these photos.

Minobu-san Kuon-ji Temple 400-year-old drooping cherry trees 2025.03.30
Kuon Temple is full of highlights such as the main hall established as the head shrine of Nichiren Buddhism
Nichiren Shoshu entered Mt. Minobu on May 17, 1274 (Bunei 11), and from June 17 of the same year, he made his residence in a soan in the west valley at the foot of Mt. Takatoriyama. As a result, May 17, 1274 was designated as Nichiren Shojin Minobu Entry Day, and June 17 of the same year was designated as the day of the opening of Mt. Minobu. Since then, Nichiren Shojin has been reciting the Lotus Sutra and teaching his disciples for nine years, and on November 24, 1281 (Koan 4), he abolished the old hermitage and built an Authentic Hall, which he named himself "Minobusan Myōhoin Kuon Temple". From HP
Impression everywhere you look, such as the magnificent Main gate, the three gates, and the five-story pagoda.
In particular, the 400-year-old drooping cherry trees that bloom in the Precincts at this time of year are a masterpiece.
