The C-1 transport aircraft is the first domestically produced post-war military transport aircraft deployed by the JASDF. Japan's defeat in the war sealed off the technology for developing aviation, but the ban was finally lifted in the 1970's and the first jet-powered transport aircraft made its debut. The C-1 features a loading system that allows the vehicle to be loaded quickly and, with metal rods on the floor, it can transport up to 36 patients at a time. The aircraft has been dispatched to many disasters and is a reassuring tool in the event of a recent spate of disasters and epidemics. Check out the awesome kabuki paint job in the video! -

YORU MO-DE at Toyokawa Inari: Video Introduction This video, titled "A Temple Visit at Night With a Fantastical Atmosphere|Using Technology to Prevent Infection|Toyokawa Inari, Aichi (2022/7/25)" (幻想的な雰囲気の中で「夜の参拝」を 感染対策には驚きの演出も 愛知・豊川稲荷(2022/7/25)), was uploaded by "CBC News [CBC TV Official]" (CBCニュース【CBCテレビ公式】). Toyokawa Inari x NAKED YORU MO-DE, which began last July, is a safe and secure, new-style nighttime worship event that focuses on preventing infection. Be sure to check out the video as it shows Toyokawa Inari and the photogenic light art, illuminated approach, and many other attractions that can be seen at YORU MO-DE. Toyokawa Inari - Is It a Temple or Shrine? Photo:Reiko-Zuka, the Hill of Foxes at Toyokawa Inari, Aichi Prefecture Toyokawa Inari, located in Toyokawa, Aichi, in Japan's Tokai region, is a temple officially called Enpukuzan Myogonji Temple and is one of the three major Inari shrines in Japan. The reason it is called Toyokawa Inari is that it enshrines a deity called "Toyokawa Dakini Shinten," a god astride a white fox (Inari shrines are dedicated to foxes), who is believed to bring prosperity to business and safety to one's family. It is said that this may be due to the fact that the shrine is also associated with the Inari faith. Toyokawa Inari is famous for offering four types of shuin stamps. The summer-only shuin stamps with cool designs are quite popular. In addition, a variety of good luck charms are available, including some with cute foxes on them. Toyokawa Inari has branch temples throughout Japan. Toyokawa Kaku Myogonji Temple in Akasaka, Tokyo, also known as Toyokawa Inari Betsuin, is a popular urban power spot. The fortune-telling service at Toyokawa Inari Betsuin is particularly popular due to its accuracy, causing there to often be a queue of people waiting to receive their fortunes. Ticket and Event Information for Toyokawa Inari YORU MO-DE 2022 Source :YouTube screenshot Toyokawa Inari YORU MO-DE 2022 is from July 22 to August 6. This is a limited-time event to enjoy a nighttime temple visit, and tickets must be purchased in order to participate. Tickets can be purchased at the on-site reception during the event period, or in advance on ticket websites. Admission is 1,500 yen for adults. Elementary school students and younger can enter free of charge. During YORU MO-DE, visitors can enjoy a variety of illuminated artworks in the precincts of Toyokawa Inari, which attract a lot of attention due to how photogenic they are. In addition to the approach to the temple being lit up, this year the light-up area has been expanded even further! Reiko-Zuka, the Hill of Foxes, where approximately 1,000 fox statues are enshrined, will be illuminated with light and sound effects, creating an even more beautiful and mysterious atmosphere. In addition, the colorful flower-shaped mikuji that have become popular on Japanese social media will add color and delight visitors. Summer is also the best time for yukata! The FOX MASK, available in limited quantities, goes perfectly with yukata, and allows visitors to take memorable photos! Also, the "Tsukubai," a stone wash basin used to purify oneself, emits disinfectant when hands are held near it and projects motifs of goldfish and fireworks. In addition, the light patterns on the lanterns allow visitors to maintain safe social distancing while enjoying the attractions. How Crowded is Toyokawa Inari YORU-MODE 2022? Source :YouTube screenshot With the number of people infected with the new coronavirus on the rise, one concern people have inevitably expressed is how crowded the event will be. At this year's YORU MO-DE, in addition to infection prevention measures, such as alcohol disinfection and lanterns that allow people to naturally maintain distance from other visitors, as mentioned above, a new system has also been introduced. On the day of the event, visitors will obtain a digital numbered ticket by scanning a QR code before entering, and will receive a message on via LINE when it's time to enter. Through this system, the number of visitors allowed into the temple grounds per hour is limited to 1,500 to prevent crowding and to prevent the spread of the virus. Until you can enter with a digital numbered ticket, you can fill your stomach at the food stalls and stores in the shopping area. This system allows visitors to make good use of their time while waiting instead of just standing in line until they can enter. Delicious Food to Try at Toyokawa Inari! When you visit Toyokawa Inari, be it for sightseeing or to pray, there's one food that you've got to try. That is, Toyokawa Inari Sushi! Named after Inari Okami's favorite abura-age, this sushi is a must-try. We recommend Okitsune Honpo (おきつね本舗) if you want to try it! They also offer take-out, so it is perfect for eating while you walk around. The "Okitsune Burger," which uses fried tofu instead of buns, is also popular according to reviews. Consider giving it a try! Summary of YORU MO-DE at Toyokawa Inari If you haven't already seen the video introducing the precincts of the temple and other areas decorated with light effects, be sure to check it out. When visiting the event, although a large parking lot is available, we recommend using public transportation instead of a car, as parking is expected to be crowded during the event. Toyokawa Inari YORU MO-DE is a festival where visitors can enjoy beautiful art with the aim of revitalizing the local community. There are many hotels and other lodging facilities in the area. If you're visiting Aichi for sightseeing, definitely give YORU MO-DE a thought, it's a fantastic summer-only event! -

The Meaning of the Japanese Tradition 節分せつぶんって何なに?日本にほんの伝統でんとう行事ぎょうじの意味いみ Photo:A calendar showing February(写真しゃしん:2月にがつのカレンダーかれんだー) Setsubun is a Japanese tradition to celebrate the changing of the seasons. 節分せつぶんとは、季節きせつの移うつり変かわりを祝いわう日本にほんの伝統でんとう行事ぎょうじです。 The word Setsubun (節分) means "division of the seasons." 節分せつぶんという言葉ことばは、「季節きせつの分わかれ目め」という意味いみがあります。 In modern Japan, Setsubun is often held on February 3rd, the day before "Risshun" (立春), or the first day of spring. 現代げんだいの日本にほんでは、節分せつぶんは「立春りっしゅん」の前日ぜんじつである2月3日にがつみっかに行おこなわれることが多おおいです。 The History of Setsubun 節分せつぶんの歴史れきし The history of Setsubun goes back more than a thousand years. 節分せつぶんの歴史れきしは1000年せんねん以上いじょう前まえにさかのぼります。 As Setsubun means "division of the seasons," it wasn't always just once a year. 「季節きせつの分わかれ目め」という意味いみの節分せつぶんは、昔むかしは年とし1回いっかいではなく、 Setsubun used to take place between the changing of each of Japan's four seasons. それぞれの季節きせつの分わかれ目めに行おこなわれていました。 Furthermore, the western calendar only started being used relatively recently in Japan, and Setsubun was actually held on different days in the past. さらに、日本にほんで西暦せいれきが使つかわれるようになったのは比較的ひかくてき最近さいきんのことなので、昔むかしは節分せつぶんが別べつの日ひに行おこなわれていました。 The day before the first day of spring is called Setsubun, and in the past, Setsubun had the same meaning as New Year's Eve today, as it marked the transition to a new year. Setsubun – Bean Throwing & Oni 節分せつぶんの豆まめまき・鬼おに Photo:A family enjoying mamemaki(写真しゃしん:節分せつぶん:の豆まめまきをする家族かぞく) In the past, people believed that illnesses and disasters at the change of seasons were brought in by demons (oni), so events began to be held to ward off evil spirits. 昔むかしの人ひとは、季節きせつの変かわり目めの病気びょうきや災害さいがいは鬼おにが呼よび込こむと思おもっていたため、魔除まよけけの行事ぎょうじが行おこなわれるようになりました。 Starting from the Muromachi Period, people began to perform "mamemaki," which involved throwing soybeans to banish demons. 大豆だいずを投なげて鬼おにを追おい払はらう「豆まめまき」が行おこなわれるようになったのは室町時代むろまちじだいからです。 The reason why beans were used is because the word bean (豆, mame) and "Extermination of evil" (魔滅, mame) are pronounced the same in Japanese, and soybeans were thought to have spiritual power. 豆まめを使つかうのは、「豆まめ」と「魔滅まめ」(魔まを滅めっする)が同おなじ発音はつおんであることと、大豆だいずには霊力れいりょくがあると考かんがえられていたためです。 Mamemaki (bean-throwing) is held to drive away oni (demons/evil spirits) and to pray that the new year will be free from illness and disasters and bring good fortune. 鬼おに(邪気じゃき)を退治たいじして、新あたらしい年としを病気びょうきや災害さいがいがなく福ふくを呼よび込こむようにと願ねがいを込こめて、豆まめまきを行おこないます。 Mamemaki is done with roasted beans, which are said to ward off evil spirits. 豆まめまきをするときは、邪気じゃきを払はらうといわれる炒いった豆まめを使つかいます。 [Video] 0:09 - It sits on the coast of the Sea of Japan, with a population of 7,561. (2019, May). In 2014, the mayor of Esashi became the youngest mayor in Japan at just 29 years of age. In this video, the attractions of Esashi are packed into just 3 minutes of footage. Enjoy the nature and history of Esashi, Hokkaido. What Are "Esashi Herring"? Source :YouTube screenshot Esashi is surrounded by the ocean, and in the Edo period (1603-1867) it was a place where herring fishing was going through a boom. This is explained at 0:26 in the video. At the time, herring was a good fertilizer. Esashi was busy, especially in May, because herring was a seasonal fish in May and many ships from Edo (Tokyo) and Osaka, came to fish for them. Because of this, the popular phrase "Even Edo is not as busy as Esashi in May" was coined. Many of the leftover goods remain in the storehouses of merchants from the time, demonstrating their prosperity and showing just how successful the business was. Even now, herring soba is popular as a local dish in Esashi. Check out the video at 0:51 to see the merchant's warehouses. Tourist Attractions in Esashi! Source :YouTube screenshot There's Kamamome Island where ships called "Kitamaebune" docked during the herring fishing season, Itsukushima Shrine (厳島神社, Itsukushima jinjya), where sailors prayed for safety at sea, and the strangely shaped Heishi Rock (瓶子岩, Heishiiwa). There's a legend of Heishi Rock, that says when the sailors couldn’t catch any herring and were facing starvation, they poured divine water into the sea causing a swarm of herring to appear. Since then, every July a ceremony is held where they replace the "Shimenawa" (a rope used to cordon off consecrated areas or as a talisman against evil) at Heishi Rock. This can be seen at 1:27 in the video. The Ubagami Grand Shrine (姥神大神宮, Ubagami Daijingu) which overlooks the port of Esashi, is famous for its summer festival, the Ubagami Grand Shrine Togyo Festival, which is said to be the oldest festival in Hokkaido. From 2:01, the festival song "Esashi Oiwake," which has been passed down since the Edo Period, can be seen being performed. It has a nostalgic melody reminiscent of Edo and because of that, it's said that "Esashi Oiwake" is the king of folk songs. The herring fishing song "Soran Bushi" and "Hokkai Bonuta" also represent the culture of Hokkaido. We recommend visiting Esashi during the summer festival where you can check out the big floats and the Ohayashi band. Recommended Tourist Attractions Photo:Esashi Inishie Kaido Street There are many historic places and buildings that remain in Esashi, such as shrines, temples and houses. Walking down Inishie Kaido Street, next to the ocean, will take you to those historic places. For example, The Former Nakamura Family Merchant House, Yokoyama House, and the Esashi Town Historical Museum are all attractive spots that retain a good old-fashioned Japanese atmosphere. Visiting Esashicho Bunka Hall, Esashi Town Meeting Hall, Esashi Oiwake/Yama Museum, and the Esashi Town Historical Museum to learn about the history is another great way to enjoy oneself. The Kaiyo Maru from Netherlands can be seen near Kamome Island. It was a battleship of the Shogunate's navy at the end of the Edo Period. (About 1860) You also get a great view, surrounded by the ocean waves, when the weather is nice. Don't forget your camera! Summary of Esashi Photo:A school of fish As you can see in the video, Esashi, Hokkaido is a fishing town with many and festivals and historic places left over from the old days of Japan. Enjoy seeing the attractions of Hokkaido through the video. At 2:36, we learn that, in 2017, a school of herring were seen for the first time in 104 years in Esashi, and a new light began to shine on Esashi once again. Esashi is a sort of hole-in-the-wall destination in Hokkaido, but has easy access from Hakodate by train or bus. If you're headed this way, we recommend checking out Hakodate as well! Also, if Esashi interests you, check out the local products of Hometown Tax Donation Program. There are attractive local products like queen crab and gasa shrimp. 【Official website】Esashi Town hall homepage https://www.hokkaido-esashi.jp/ 【Trip Advisor】Esashi https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g1120309-Esashi_cho_Hiyama_gun_Hokkaido-Vacations.html -

Kinkato: The Japanese Sweet That's Too Good to Eat! A Look at the Colorful Treats That Decorate the Doll Festival in Kanazawa, Ishikawa!

Kinkato - Japanese Sweets Displayed at the Doll Festival in Kanazawa, Ishikawa This video, titled "[4K Video] Kinkato at Hinamatsuri in Northern Japan: Kanazawa, Ishikawa|nippon.com" (【4K動画】北国の雛(ひな)祭りを彩る金花糖:石川県金沢市| nippon.com), was uploaded by "nippon.com." It introduces "kinkato," a lucky sugar candy displayed with Hina dolls during Hinamatsuri (The Doll Festival), a traditional Japanese event held on March 3 every year to wish for the healthy growth of girls. In Kanazawa, Ishikawa, located in Japan's Koshinetsu region, the tradition of displaying "kinkato," a traditional Japanese sweet, has been passed down as part of Japanese confectionery culture and colorfully decorates Hinamatsuri, which comes at the end of the long winter in northern Japan. This article will explain the culture and traditions of kinkato. In the video, you'll see kinkato in various shapes, including sea bream, gourds, etc., which are displayed with the dolls on the hina-dan (the stage that holds the dolls during Hinamatsuri). Be sure to check out the video to get an idea of what kinkato is like and how it's used as a decoration. More About the Traditional Japanese Sweet Kinkato Photo:Hina dolls It is said that the origin and roots of kinkato can be traced back to trade with the Portuguese in the mid-1500's, when things like konpeito and ariheito were presented to rulers during Hinamatsuri in Kanazawa, a castle town of the Kaga Domain during the Edo period (1603-1868 A.D.). After the Kaga Domain was abolished, these products spread to the general public as sweet confections to be displayed with Hina dolls, and were also used as wedding gifts. In the process of making kinkato, white granulated sugar that has been melted and turned into syrup is poured into a wooden mold carved by a skilled confectioner, which is then cooled gradually to make the inside hollow. After that, it is removed from the mold and pieces are colored one by one with food coloring by a Japanese confectionery chef. Kinkato is a delicate, handmade product that requires careful monitoring of temperatures, humidity, and other factors. Source :YouTube screenshot Kinkato is often shaped to look like seafood, such as sea bream, clams, and turban shells, or vegetables, such as bamboo shoots, eggplants, cucumbers, and mushrooms, or fruits, such as peaches and grapes. They are also shaped into lucky talismans, such as mandarin ducks. Kinkato" is similar to kohakuto, but the difference is that kohakuto is made from sugar and agar. Kinkato is still carefully handmade by long-established Japanese confectioners in Kanazawa and can be purchased online from Yamamoto Seika (山本製菓), Mannendo (まんねん堂), and other retailers. Since these sweets are elaborate and so difficult to make that only skilled wagashi craftsmen can make them, the price for a small decoration of two or three items can cost around 3,000 yen, while some larger items can exceed 10,000 yen. In addition, they are often sold only during Hinamatsuri and other limited periods of the year. From 0:20 in the video, you can see a close-up of kinkato, so be sure to check out the colorful and delicate handiwork. You may also be wondering what happens to kinkato after it's been used as a decoration. The most common use of kinkato is to season nimono. It can also be crushed into small pieces and eaten as a candy-like snack, or added to coffee. This makes kinkato a waste-free decoration that can be used as sugar. Mint flavor is also available, and there are products that can simply be eaten as is. Summary of Kinkato, a Tradition Springtime Confection in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Please enjoy the video "[4K Video] Kinkato at Hinamatsuri in Northern Japan: Kanazawa, Ishikawa|nippon.com," which shows beautiful images of kinkato displayed with Hina dolls. If you find these cute and colorful sweets appealing, consider purchasing your own kinkato and displaying it in your home with the arrival of spring! -

Make sure to visit Hiroshima City to see the traditional lanterns that mourn the souls of the war dead. In the lantern flow held at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima Prefecture in 2018, featured in the video, colorful lanterns illuminated by lights make a fantastic image as they slowly float down the river. The Origin and History of the Ancient Japanese Ceremonial Bonfire Photo: Buddhist altar In August, lantern floats are held in various parts of Japan. This is a kind of festival called the Bon Festival in Japan. The festival acts as a memorial service to send off the souls of the deceased. In some areas, in addition to lit lanterns, there are also bon festival offerings. The origin and history of Japan's bon festival are unclear, but it is said that these festivals were already taking place in various places during the Heian period (794-1185 AD), more than 1200 years ago. The Floating Lanterns Contain Prayers for Peace Photo:Hiroshima Lantern Float The atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima City, Japan, on August 6, 1945. Hiroshima City holds the Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6th every year in the hope that the memories of the tragic war that caused many casualties, not be seen again. After the ceremony is over and the sun goes down, beautiful lanterns float down the Motoyasu River next to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park with hopes of peace. The video introduces this lantern float throughout its entirety, so be sure to follow along and see the beauty of the lanterns as they float downstream. Participate in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park's Lantern Float Visitors to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park are welcome to participate in the lantern floating ceremony. Nara To-kae 2022 Video Introduction This video, titled "The 23rd Annual Nara To-kae (Video)" (第23回なら燈花会映像), was uploaded by "Nara To-kae PR" (なら燈花会の会工法). During Nara To-kae, a summer festival held in Nara, candles are arranged all over Nara Park, which is surrounded by World Heritage sites, creating a fantastic atmosphere within the city. The History of Nara To-kae Photo:Nara To-kae Nara To-kae was held for the first time in 1999. The lump of wax that forms at the base of the candle wick in the shape of a flower is called "Toka" (燈花, lit 'Light Flower'), and it is said to bring good luck when it forms. It is an event in which candles are lit to wish for the happiness of the people who visit. Nara To-kae is a major summer event in Nara, attracting more than 900,000 participants each year, although in recent years the event has been held without spectators due to the novel Coronavirus. Every year, many local companies sponsor the event, and depending on the amount of sponsorship, special offers, such as poster placement, are made. The festival is held in Nara Park, surrounded by World Heritage sites, such as Todaiji Temple, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Kofukuji Temple, and Sarusawa Pond, for 10 days from early to mid-August, with candle lighting from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Each venue attracts a large number of visitors each year. Autumn Leaves at Entsuin Temple: Video Introduction This video, titled "Entsuin Temple|Autumn Leaves Illumination|Matsushima, Miyagi|2019|Panasonic FZ1000" (円通院 紅葉ライトアップ 松島 宮城 2019 Panasonic FZ1000), was uploaded by "JMF Japan Miyagi Film." It introduces the breathtakingly beautiful autumn foliage illumination event at Entsuin Temple. A Closer Look at Entsuin Temple – Its History and What Makes It Unique Photo:The garden and mausoleum of Entsuin Temple Entsuin Temple is a temple associated with the Date clan, the feudal lords of Sendai, located in Matsushima, Miyagi, in Japan's Tohoku region, a place known as one of the "Three Views of Japan." Entsuin Temple was built in 1647 by Date Tadamune as the mausoleum of Date Mitsumune, the grandson of Date Masamune. Located in the inner part of the temple grounds is a mausoleum from the early Edo period (~1603-1700 AD) which is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Within the grounds of Entsuin Temple, visitors can enjoy several gardens, including a dry landscape garden that depicts Matsushima, a garden designated as a Cultural Property by the Town of Matsushima, a moss garden that takes advantage of the natural beauty of the inner mausoleum, and a garden mainly featuring roses, created by the temple's head priest. Entsuin temple is located just a few minutes' walk from Zuiganji Temple, and as you pass through the temple gate, you'll see many kokeshi dolls that have been used in marriage ceremonies, and enshrined on the back side of the gate is Enmusubi Kannon. Enmusubi Kannon (the Buddhist goddess Avalokiteshvara depicted as a matchmaker) is said to bring together men and women or those who have never had a chance to be together, and is famous as a power spot for marriage. Thus, Entsuin Temple is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Matsushima, together with Zuiganji Temple, a National Treasure. When to See the Autumn Illumination Event at Entsuin Temple + Highlights of the Event Photo:Shinji Pond at Entsuji Temple in Matsushima, Miyagi Entsuin Temple is also known for its beautiful autumn foliage. Every year from late October to late November, when the autumn leaves are at their best, an autumn illumination event takes place. The event is held in the historic Matsushima Rikyu, which is planted with ancient maple trees. The autumn illumination event is held every year from early November to mid-November, when the autumn foliage is at its best. [Autumn Foliage Illumination in 2023]. Period: October 28 - November 19, 2023 Venue: Zuiganji, Entonji, Zuiganji approach, and Sanseido, Matsushima Fee: Zuiganji and Entsuji [common admission ticket] 2,000 yen Zuiganji and Entsuji [single ticket] 1,300 yen each In 2023, a special tour with the Date Busyoutai and a mini-concert will be held on the Entsuji temple grounds. In addition, a "Matsushima Bay Twilight Cruise" by Matsushima Island Tour Boat will be available during the festival period. We hope you have a chance to visit Entsuin Temple and enjoy the fantastic autumn leaves as shown in the video. The Rose Garden at Entsuin Temple Photo:The garden of Entsuin Temple Entsuin Temple is famous not only for its autumn foliage but also for its roses, and is also known as "Bara-ji" or "Rose Temple." The origin of this name is that the oldest Western roses in Japan were brought back by Hasekura Tsunenaga of the Date Clan, who traveled to Europe as an envoy during the Keicho Mission to Europe. As a symbol of his achievement, Entsuin Temple created a garden mainly composed of roses. In addition, roses are painted on the zushi (minature shrine) of the inner mausoleum, which is also designated as an Important Cultural Property. Entsuin Temple is a baroque garden born from a fusion of Buddhism and Christianity. The best time to see the roses is in early June, when the roses in the rose garden are in full bloom. However, bloom times vary according to the variety of rose. Traditional Prayer Bead Making Experiences and More! At Entsuin Temple, which is famous for its matchmaking activities, visitors can try their hand at making their own original Buddhist prayer beads. Buddhist prayer beads, called Juzu (数珠) in Japanese, are important Buddhist ritual objects that are worn during funerals, memorial services, visits to graves, and other occasions when one prays to Buddha. It's said that just by holding them, one can rid themself of misfortune and gain peace and tranquility. In the bead making experience, participants can choose their favorite beads and make their own unique prayer beads. The beads are made of natural stone, plastic, and glass, all of which are used to pray and express gratitude to the deity of Entsuin Temple. The process takes 20 minutes, is relatively simple, and does not require an appointment. Entsuin Temple also has its own original shuin stamp books. All of these books are also used to pray and make offerings of gratitude to the main deity of Entsuin temple. By depositing your shuin stamp book at the entrance before visiting the temple, you can receive a shuin stamp when visiting. Summary of Autumn at Entsuin Temple Photo:Entsuin Temple, Matsushima, Miyagi Entsuin Temple is a place where visitors can enjoy various gardens, autumn leaves, Buddhism, and bead-making workshops in a relaxing atmosphere with lots of nature and rich history. The Ashigakubo Icicles: Video Introduction This video, titled "A Spectacular View [Ashigakubo Icicles] Light-up|A Top 3 Icicle Spot in Chichibu" (絶景「あしがくぼの氷柱」ライトアップ / 秩父三大氷柱2021), was uploaded by "Deep Channel / Shigeo Fukagawa" (Deepちゃんねる / 深川栄生). The Ashigakubo Icicles are generally open to the public from early January to late February in the town of Yokoze in Chichibu, Saitama, in Japan's Kanto Region, and are known as one of the top 3 icicle spots in Chichibu. At night on weekends, the icicles are lit up, attracting many tourists from all over Japan to see the fantastic sight of the icicles changing colors in the darkness. The icicles are just a 10-minute walk from Ashigakubo Station on the Seibu Railway line, making it an easily accessible spot for tourists to stop by. You can even take pictures of the icicles with the Seibu Chichibu Line train running nearby. Enjoy the realistic video of this beautiful icy world, which can only be viewed during the cold winter months in Japan. [Video] 0:51 - The Ashigakubo Icicles and the Nearby Train The Ashigakubo Icicles – How the Must-See Winter Attraction Is Created Photo:The Ashigakubo Icicles, Chichibu, Saitama The Top 3 Icicle Spots of Chichibu, which are normally visible from mid-January to mid-February, are a symbol of winter in Chichibu, a region known for its frigid temperatures. The three icicle spots are the Ashigakubo Icicles, the Misotsuchi Icicles, and the Onouchi Icicles. While the Misotsuchi Icicles are made up of natural icicles, the Onouchi Icicles and Ashigakubo Icicles are both man-made attractions. The magnificent icicles, which make good use of Chichibu's topography, are so impressive that it'is hard to believe that they're man made. The Ashigakubo Icicles are artificially created using sprinklers on the slope of the mountain. The giant field of icicles, standing 30 meters tall and 200 meters wide, covers the entire mountainside and is truly a sight to behold. The project was initiated by local residents of Yokoze and has become a popular tourist attraction since it was opened to the public in 2014. Because the Ashigakubo icicles are man-made rather than natural, it was possible to build a boardwalk where visitors can observe the icicles up close. This allows visitors to walk along the promenade and appreciate the various views of the icicles up close, as they change in height, angle, and color. The beautifully layered icicles are a work of ice art created through the cooperation of nature and man. Highlights & Attractions at the Ashigakubo Icicles Photo:The Ashigakubo Icicle illumination, Chichibu, Saitama The Ashigakubo Icicles are lit up both during the daytime as well as at night, making it a prominent midwinter event for sightseeing in Chichibu. The illumination lasts from sunset to 8 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays during the event period. Advance web reservations are required to view the illumination on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. The Ashigakubo Icicle illumination slowly changes in color and intensity as it gets darker, adding to the fantastical atmosphere. The romantic view of the beautiful ice world is perfect for dates as well. We recommend enjoying the romantic view of the icicles while walking along the promenade, or from the top of the mountain overlooking the magical field of icicles. Another highlight of the event is the collaboration between the train and the icicles. If you're a photographer, or just looking to get a cool shot for Instagram, you can take an awesome photo of the train as it passes by the picturesque world of ice. [Video] 0:12 - The Ashigakubo Icicles Lit Up [Video] 0:51 - A Collaboration of the Train and Icicles Summary of the Ashigakubo Icicles Photo:Ashigakubo Station There are other places in Japan where large icicles can be seen in addition to the Ashigakubo Icicles, but they are not easy to visit due to long walks along steep paths. However, the Ashigakubo Icicles are the most accessible of the Top 3 Icicle Spots of Chichibu, and can be visited on a day trip from central Tokyo. The nearest station to the Ashigakubo Icicles is Ashigakubo Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach Ashigakubo Station by train from Ikebukuro Station, and from there it's an approximately 10-minute walk. The Ashigakubo Icicles are a rare sightseeing spot where visitors can enjoy a spectacular winter view at just a train's ride from the heart of Tokyo. If you're in Japan this winter, consider visiting Chichibu for an extraordinary experience of ice and art. ◆Ice column with hollow legs◆ [Address] Daiji Ashigakubo, Yokose Town, Chichibu-Gun, Saitama Prefecture [Period] 16th to 25th February 2024 [Business Hours] Monday - Thursday 9:00-16:00 (last admission 16:00) [Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holiday] Lighting up will be held from 17:00 to 20:00 Light-up varies depending on sunset time *Lighting up on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays is by advance reservation (web) Day and night exchange system [Admission fee] 500 yen (over junior high school students) · 300 yen (elementary school students) [Transportation access] Seibu Chichibu Line Ashigakubo StationGet off and walk 10 minutes [Parking] Yes (free) Accept pets: Yes 【TripAdvisor】The Ashigakubo Icicles -

Fuku Otoko 2023 – A Race to Be the Lucky Man at Nishinomiya Shrine: Video Introduction This video, titled "A Return After 3 Years! Nishinomiya Shrine's 'Fuku Otoko' Event - This Year's 'Lucky Man' Is a 22-Year-Old University Student From Kobe!" (3年ぶり開催!西宮神社「福男選び」 一番福は神戸の22歳大学生), was uploaded by "Kobe Shimbun (kobedigital)" (神戸新聞社(kobedigital)). Every year, there's a unique ritual held at Nishinomiya Shrine on Toka Ebisu, a festival on January 10 dedicated to Ebisu, the god of fortune. It's called Fuku Otoko. Since 2019, there has been only one Fuku Otoko event held at Nishinomiya Shrine. But this year, the ritual has finally returned! Before the coronavirus pandemic, the event was massive, with nearly 1,500 participants, but it was cancelled for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, making it the first time in three years that the event has been held. Check out the video below to see the 2023 Fuku Otoko event! The Lucky Man of 2023! Source :YouTube screenshot Of the first 1,200 people to arrive, approximately 108 were in the forward group. Just prior to the opening of the gates, a curtain was hung with the words "Shuku Fukatsu" (祝復活, Celebration Revival) in celebration of the first time the event had been held in three years. At 6:00 a.m. on January 10, 2023, the Main Gate opened to the sound of taiko drums, followed by participants rushing into the precincts of the temple and sprinting for the finish line. [Video] 0:02 - The Celebration Revival Curtain The first man to pass through the gate arrives at the main shrine, dodging all the obstacles in his path! He was the lucky man of 2023. [Video] 0:45 - The Moment the Lucky Man of 2023 is Decided The lucky man for 2023 is a 22-year-old baseball player from Kobe, Hyogo, who is a member of the regulation baseball team at Osaka University of Commerce and holds a record of 5.9 seconds in the 50-meter dash. In the interview, he says, "I am standing here because of my luck, so I want to make this a year in which I can share this luck with everyone. [Video] 0:50 - The 3 Lucky Winners The second blessing was given to a 25-year-old public servant from Nishinomiya, Hyogo, and the third to a first-year college student from Kishiwada, Osaka. In the 2020 Nishinomiya Shrine Fuku Otoko event, a male PE teacher in his 30s, who has participated 13 consecutive times, was awarded #1 Fuku Otoko for the first time in 2023. Incidentally, the last lucky man of Japan's Heisei period (1989-2019) was a male firefighter in his 20s. Fuku Otoko – When & Where to See the Event Photo:Nishinomiya Shrine, Hyogo The Gate Opening ritual for selecting the "lucky men" is held at Nishinomiya Shrine in Nishinomiya, Hyogo in Japan's Kansai region. Although the 2021 and 2022 rituals were canceled due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, the 2023 ritual was held for the first time in three years and was very popular. Nishinomiya Shrine's annual Fuku Otoko ritual is held on January 10 during "Toka Ebisu," a major festival dedicated to the deity Ebisu, with the large red gate closing at midnight on January 9 and opening at 6:00 a.m. on January 10. A large number of participants dash through the precincts of the shrine to be the first to arrive at the shrine to pray for good fortune. For the first time in three years, Nishinomiya Shrine will hold a lottery to select the participants of the event, with the number of participants being limited to 1,200, down from the usual 1,500. Despite the ritual being called Fuku Otoko (福男, lit. "Lucky Man"), women are also eligible to participate. If a woman wins, she becomes a "Fuku Onna" (福女, lit. "Lucky Woman"). Tracing the History of Nishinomiya Shrine Photo:A statue of Ebisu Nishinomiya Shrine is the head shrine of all Ebisu shrines throughout Japan, which are worshipped as gods of good fortune. The origin of the shrine is said to originate from an idol that originally appeared off the coast of Wadamisaki, Kobe, in Osaka Bay and was enshrined by fishermen, who later entrusted it to Nishinomiya Shrine. The main shrine is a beautiful building with an unusual structure called sanren kasuga-zukuri (a triple-pitched roof), and is designated as a National Treasure. It was donated by Tokugawa Ietsuna, the fourth shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. It was destroyed by fire during an air raid during the war, but has been beautifully restored to its present appearance. The beautiful green forest that stretches across the grounds behind the main shrine is called Ebisu no Mori (えびすの森, Ebisu Forest) and is designated as a Natural Monument by the Hyogo Prefectural Government. It is a wonderful shrine where visitors can experience nature and the long history and culture of the area. Fuku Otoko's Course, Obstacles, and Time! Photo:The large front gate of Nishinomiya Shrine, Hyogo Prefecture Nishinomiya Shrine's Fuku Otoko ritual is a major event on Toka Ebisu, in which contestants race through a 230-meter long-course along a stone-paved approach from the red Akamon Gate to the main shrine building. Every year, many applicants compete for the title of "lucky man," but many give up even before the more difficult points along the course. One of the most difficult points that eliminates many participants is the "Tenbin Curve" located at the end of the straight shot extending from Akamon Gate. Many participants have been seen on TV dropping out of the race after failing to make this turn. You might be curious as to how fast people get to the finish line during the Fuku Otoko rituals at Nishinomiya Shrine, but they unfortunately don't record this. According to a spokesperson, the races are usually about 30 seconds long. This means that the races start and end in a flash. Merits to Being a Lucky Man or Lucky Woman Photo:A lucky bamboo branch on Toka Ebisu So, what happens if you're a lucky man or woman at Nishinomiya Shrine's Fuku Otoko ritual? First, you'll receive an effigy of Ebisu and a certificate. Then, you'll receive Ebisu's rice, sake, yakidai (grilled sea bream), an Ebisu mask, a happi coat, and other gifts. Winners will also participate in shrine festivals and rituals as a lucky man or woman. The events included are as follows: rice cake pounding at the shrine in February, the Okoshiya Festival in June, and the Nishinomiya Festival in September. The winners are also invited to corporate events and other events, where they deliver good fortune to everyone as that year's Fuku Otoko or Fuku Onna. Rules & How to Participate in Fuku Otoko To participate in Nishinomiya Shrine's Fuku Otoko ritual, it's actually very simple. If you just want to participate, simply gather at Omote-daimon Gate in time for the 6:00 a.m. start time. However, if you are serious about becoming a Fuku Otoko, you'll need to win a drawing. The lottery draw will take place at 10:00 p.m. on January 9, with registration starting at midnight on January 10. At the registration desk, you'll have to sign a "Participant's Agreement" indicating that you agree to participate in the shrine's events on a priority basis if you become a lucky man or lucky woman. There is a red lottery for the A block (108 people) at the front of the gate, and a blue lottery for the B block (100 people) behind the A block. All others will be placed in Block C. The lottery will be closed once it reaches the maximum enrollment. If you want to be a lucky man or lucky woman, be sure to participate in the lottery. Summary of Nishinomiya Shrine's Fuku Otoko Event Photo:Toka Ebisu, Nishinomiya Shrine The sight of so many people running as fast as they can to become a lucky man is exciting to watch. Although the Toka Ebisu festival is crowded with many worshippers, it's a unique event and you can also see the unusual sakasa kadomatsu, an upside-down pine decoration. Bring a camera to take some awesome photos of your visit. You can participate in the selection of a lucky man and become one, or just come to experience the excitement of the festival! If you're traveling to Hyogo Prefecture during this season, consider checking out the gate opening ritual, which will be held for the first time in three years, and pray for a happy new year! 【Official Website】Nishinomiya Shrine 【TripAdvisor】Nishinomiya Shrine -
