Kanagawa Yamato Awa Odori
_____________________________________
The Kanagawa Yamato Awa Odori began as a local shopping street event and has grown into one of the three major Awa Odori festivals in the Kanto region. Alongside local troupes, many groups from across Japan take part, and dancers in vivid costumes perform passionately to the ringing of small gongs and the beat of drums. The festival offers spectacles that thrill the audience, such as the overwhelmingly powerful group dance called souodori, and the niwaka-ren where anyone can join on the spot to experience Awa Odori, making it a summer tradition in Yamato that you can enjoy both as a spectator and a participant.

Hello everyone~. This is the Yamato City Event and Tourism Association.
In Yamato City, we publish information on “Yamato Local Vegetable Partner Restaurants,” which offer dishes made with locally grown vegetables.
The featured establishments are certified by the city and range from stylish restaurants to casual izakaya and patisseries where you can enjoy sweets. Crunchy leafy greens, juicy blueberries and apples, fluffy sweet potatoes…even popcorn made from tender local corn.
Also, farmer’s direct-sales markets for local vegetables are held regularly across Yamato City, including the Yamato Citizens’ Morning Mist Market.
You can enjoy Yamato vegetables at home or at restaurants.
Why not savor the unique freshness and flavor of locally harvested vegetables?

It's been a little while.
Actually, I'm currently busy preparing for YAMATO FILM FESTIVAL 2025, which takes place the day after tomorrow on Sunday, March 16.
This year's festival will screen a carefully selected lineup of short films chosen from many submissions across the country last year, presented all at once in one big showing.
We will show 12 films selected for the 15th Short Film Competition, two special works by last competition's winners, and, not to be outdone, several film directors who are also competition judges made one film each for this program.
That makes 15 films in total. They offer a variety of themes and flavors.
Admission is free. You can watch all 15 films at no charge. Anyone can drop by and watch, so it's a great deal, honestly.
I hope there will be at least one film you like or one that somehow lingers in your mind.
Now, for publicity we created posters, flyers, and a visitor pamphlet. This time we deliberately unified their concept color.
In spring they put down strong roots and delight with vivid color, and before you know it they turn into downy seeds that ride the wind and spread far and wide.
The dandelion, also called the dandelion, inspired a color that represents the small film's solid entertainment value, its strength rooted deeply so it will not be lost going forward, and its freedom to spread everywhere rather than stay in one place—things we wanted to value. Well, that's just what the person in charge happened to think.
After all, these are just amateur-made ads, but if one happens to catch someone's eye and makes them go "huh?", leading them to discover the world of short films they didn't know before, I would be extremely, extremely happy. I hope such a miracle happens.
We look forward to seeing many of you.

Hello everyone—this is the Yamato City Event and Tourism Association.
We talked about a temple the other day, so today we will introduce a shrine in Yamato.
Fukami Shrine is a shrine located about a 15-minute walk from Yamato Station on the Odakyu Enoshima Line and the Sotetsu Line.
The enshrined deities are Takemikazuchi no Kami and Takeminakata no Kami. Takemikazuchi no Kami is also known as the deity of Kashima Shrine, the head shrine Kashima Jingu, often called Kashima-sama.
Both deities are powerful war gods associated with martial prowess, and they are indispensable for prayers for victory.
Fukami Shrine is the only shrine in the city listed in the Engishiki Jinmyocho, a register compiled in the Nara and Heian periods, making it one of the Engishiki-designated shrines. It has been recorded as one of the region’s representative shrines since ancient times.
Fukami Shrine is also known for its harunire tree, selected as one of Kanagawa’s 100 notable trees and designated as a Yamato City historic site, scenic spot, and natural monument. This harunire reaches about 30 meters in height, which is rare in lowland areas like Yamato. Because its species was once unknown, locals originally called it the “nanjamonja tree,” and that familiar local name still endures.
Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, Fukami Shrine makes a lovely stop on a walking route.

Today I will tell you a story about the stone statues at Josenji Temple in Yamato City and how incredibly cute they are.
Josenji is a well-known temple in Yamato City, famous as the "Temple of Flowers."
Its trees and blossoms soothe the mind throughout the seasons, making it a peaceful retreat.
Scattered across Josenji’s grounds are rakan statues and kappa.
Each one wears a vivid expression that sparks all kinds of imagination: "What are they thinking?" "They look so close and heartwarming," "They seem to be having fun together."
Perhaps they, too, enjoy watching the visitors who come to the temple.
These lively stone figures are truly full of personality and utterly charming.

At the Yamato City Event and Tourism Association's Yamato City Cultural Creation Hub Sirius, hina dolls are on display until Monday, March 3. It is a very splendid seven-tiered set.
When I was a child, I thought the faces of Japanese dolls looked kind of scary, but seeing them now as an adult, I feel their beauty and charm. It's strange, isn't it….

Today is February 22nd, commonly called Cat Day.
A huge mural by Masamichi Oikawa, the illustrator known for the magazine Pia, brightens Yamato Nadeshiko Square on the west side of Sotetsu Line Yamato Station.
If you look closely, there’s a cat…! (=^・・^=)
You can also see a cheerful Yamato-n character painted there.
By the way, Oikawa’s illustrations also wrap the community buses that run around the city.
