Jiko-in, One of the Three Major Gardens of Nara Photo:The Japanese garden at Jiko-in, Nara Prefecture Jiko-in, introduced from 0:57 in the video, is a temple of the Daitokuji school of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism. Jiko-in's Japanese garden is designated as a National Historic Site and a Place of Scenic Beauty. The Japanese garden at Jiko-in is characterized by the fact that the entire temple grounds are designed as a single tea ceremony hall. Not only the temple grounds, but also the surrounding scenery is incorporated into the garden as borrowed scenery. The building you can see from 2:40 in the video is a rustic thatched-roof study, designated as an Important Cultural Property. The Japanese garden can be enjoyed from the tatami room, allowing visitors to sit quietly on the tatami mats and enjoy the beautiful garden. Ibarakimon Gate in the precincts of the temple is another highlight of the temple. Isuien Garden, One of the Three Major Gardens of Nara Photo:Isuien Garden, Nara Prefecture Isuien Garden, introduced at 3:27 in the video, is located in the center of Nara City and is a garden with a circular path around a pond that was created to capture the natural landscape of the city. This Japanese garden, located in a corner of the Nara Park area, consists of the Front Garden created in the early Edo Period (around 1603-1700 AD), and the Back Garden, built in the Meiji Period (1868-1912). In the Front Garden, there's the Sanshutei Tea House which was relocated by Kiyosumi Dousei, a government purveyor, as a villa for enjoying tea. The Sanshutei Tea House can be used as a cafe for delicious lunches, or for sampling Japanese sweets and green tea while admiring the Japanese garden. The Back Garden is a pond garden with a huge artificial mountain created by industrialist Tojiro Seki. Here, there is a teahouse called "Hyoshintei," a shoin-style teahouse built in the Meiji Period. At Isuien Garden, visitors can enjoy the vivid colors of the four seasons, with cherry blossoms, azaleas, wisteria, wisteria, Japanese clover, and green maples. It is also known for its beautiful autumn foliage. Also located on the grounds of Isuien Garden is the Neiraku Art Museum. The museum's collection includes a painting by Tanomura Chikuden, which is an Important Cultural Property, and is on special display in the spring. Access to Isuien Garden is a 15-minute walk or 7-minute bus ride from Kintetsu Nara Station. An entrance fee, including admission to the Neiraku Art Museum, is also required. Next to Isuien is Yoshikien Garden, another beautiful Japanese garden. Sainan-in Temple Photo:Sainan-in Temple, Nara Prefecture Sainan-in, introduced at 6:06 in the video, is the Sainan-in Garden of a small Zen temple built to commemorate the death of a high priest of Taima-dera Temple. The Japanese garden is the 21st sacred site of the Kansai Flower Temples, and is especially famous for its rhododendron and peonies. In addition, many people visit this temple as the 8th of the eighteen Buddhist monasteries in the Kinki region. Sainan-in also has a garden featuring a circular path around a pond, and includes the main hall and the horizontally built west wing of the temple. From the viewing platform, visitors can enjoy a view of the west and east wings of the temple. There is also a suikinkutsu in the garden, and its crystal-clear sound will calm your mind. Video introduction of “Gozan-no-Okuribi” in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture This video, titled "Gozan no Okuribi 4K" (五山送り火 4K Gozan no Okuribi), was uploaded by "MOVIE JAPAN." The video begins with scenes of spectators at Gozan no Okuribi, part of the obon festival in Kyoto, on the banks of the Kamo River, and shows the different bonfires floating up into the summer night sky. What are "Gozan-no-Okuribi" and "Daimonji-yaki"? Meaning and History Photo:Gozan no Okuribi (Daimonji), Kyoto Gozan no Okuribi (Daimonji) is one of the four major festivals in Kyoto, along with Aoi Matsuri, Gion Matsuri, and Jidai Matsuri. The five mountains of Gozan no Okuribi, called 'Daimonji Yaki,' are all registered as Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of Kyoto City. In Kyoto, the souls of one's ancestors are called "Oshorai-san." Gozan no Okuribi is an event held every year on the night of August 16 to send the spirits back to the realm of the dead after they have returned during the Obon Festival. During Gozan no Okuribi, visitors can offer a homa stick, a prayer stick used in a ritual burning to ask for blessings. It is said that if you write your name and the name of your illness on the homa stick and offer it, your illness will be cured. The homa sticks will then be carried by the preservation group to the fire beds at the top of the mountains, where they will be burned in bonfires. For a donation of 300 yen per homa stick, anyone can make an offering, not just local residents. ※Homa sticks are only accepted at specific locations at specific times. Please confirm the acceptance periods, etc., via the FAQ on the official website as they differ for each location. As for how long the Gozan no Okuribi has been held, there are actually few historical documents of the event, and almost no records remain. The oldest documented historical account is from Ozuki Tadatoshi (Tadatoshi Sukuneki), which records that in 1649 Ozuki Tadatoshi saw the Nishiyama Daimonji, Fune (boat), Higashiyama Daimonji, and Minami (South) bonfires. The locations for Gozan no Okuribi are as follows. Bonfires will be lit at different times. Nyoigatake (Mt. Daimonji) on Mt. Higashiyama 【Daimonji】8:00 PM... Nyoigatake (Mt. Daimonji) on Mt. The Rare Oriental White Stork at Hyogo Park! This video, titled "Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork," released by "ibukivideo," shows rare footage of the Oriental Stork. Japan was once home to wild Oriental storks; however, they disappeared from the skies of Japan in 1971... The last habitat of the Oriental stork in Japan is Hyogo Prefecture's Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork, which can be seen at 0:44 in the video. Here, the public and private sectors work together on stork research projects. The Oriental stork is also designated as the prefectural bird of Hyogo Prefecture. In this article, we''ll take a look at Hyogo Prefecture's efforts to breed the Oriental stork. Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork Source :YouTube screenshot Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork is a research facility for storks located in Shounji, Toyooka, Hyogo prefecture in the Kansai region of Japan. You can learn about the research on Oriental storks at the Kounotori Stork Sanctuary which is attached to Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork and can be seen at 1:11 in the video. Be sure to stop by the nature observation and learning zone where you can observe the ecology of storks, and "Kounotori Honpo," a Toyooka City Community Exchange Center where you can purchase stork related merchandise. In addition, there are also research facilities that breed storks, such as the Nature Acclimation Zone, the Stork Conservation and Propagation Center, and the Nature Zone. About the Oriental Stork - Ecology and Feeding Habits Photo:An oriental stork eating fish The Oriental stork is an endangered species of bird in the family Ciconiidae, order Ciconiiformes, and genus Ciconia and is an internationally valuable bird. They are distributed throughout Asia, measuring 110 cm in length, weighing between 3 and 5 kg, and are characterized by their appearance similar to that of a crane. There are many folklore stories about storks bringing babies into the world. In Japan, the storks once lived in the rice paddies and rivers of the mountains and woodlands. As you can see at 2:35 in the video, their nests are approximately 1 metre wide. Their diet consists of fish and insects. Adult storks do not have a well-developed vocal system, so they cannot be heard except when they are chicks. During the Meiji period (1868-1912), the number of storks in Japan was drastically reduced due to over-hunting, and besides a few protected individuals in the Tajima area of Hyogo Prefecture and the Wakasa area of Fukui Prefecture, they were hunted to extinction. In 1908, a ban on hunting the Oriental stork was put in place, and its habitat was designated as a national natural monument in 1921. The lifespan of the stork is said to be over 30 years; however, it is not yet known how long they live for in the wild. Summary of the Oriental White Stork Photo:The Oriental White Stork At Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork, a project is underway to help storks return to the skies of Japan. In 2005, a test release of storks was carried out in order to reintroduce them into the wild, and in 2007, they succeeded in breeding wild storks in the field. Now roughly 80 storks have returned to the skies. In addition to the storks bred at Hyogo Park of Oriental White Stork, Osaka Tennoji Zoo and the Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park in Aichi have also succeeded in breeding storks. What is the commitment of Japanese candle craftsmen in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, who continue to challenge new things while preserving the tradition of “Japanese candles,” a traditional Japanese product?

Japanese candles” passed down by craftsmen in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan Video Introduction This video, titled "Good Sign, Vol. 39 Japanese Candles|Daiyo" (Good Sign 第39回 和ろうそく 大與), was uploaded by "Good Sign." It introduces the traditional Japanese candles made by Daiyo, a workshop in Imazu, Takashima in Shiga Prefecture. In Imazu, a town on the northern shore of Lake Biwa in Takashima, Shiga, located in Japan's Kansai region, there is an old Japanese candle shop called "Daiyo" (大與) that has been making candles for 100 years. Daiyo's traditional Japanese candles are among the precious candles stored at Eiheiji Temple, the head temple of the Soto sect of Buddhism. Be sure to enjoy this video about Japanese candles, a traditional culture with a long history in Japan, while following along with the article! The History of Japan's Beautiful Candles Photo:Japanese candles Japanese candles are traditional candles that have been handed down from one generation to the next in Japan. Japanese candles were first produced in the 1300s. There is mention of candles in the Taiheiki (太平記, Chronicle of Great Peace) of 1375, which means that candles have a history of at least (approximately) 650 years, making them very old. Japanese candles are made from wax made from the fruit of the wax tree, a member of the poison oak family. Other types of wax include soy wax made from soybeans, beeswax from beehives, and wax made from whale oil. What Makes Daiyo's Candles Unique? Photo:Wax tree fruit The traditional Japanese candles made in Imazu, Takashima, Shiga, have been made using handmade techniques since ancient times, and there are only about ten craftsmen in the whole country who have inherited these techniques. It is said that it takes more than 10 years to become a full-fledged Japanese candle maker. At present, the third and fourth generations of Japanese candle makers are working together to keep the tradition alive. Traditional Japanese candles are truly one of Japan's representative crafts. The raw materials used and finished candles can be seen starting from 1:36 in the video. The Japanese candle making workshop Daiyo continues to take on various challenges in search of new possibilities. For example, making scented candles and oils, which are popular both in Japan and abroad. They've even tried using rice bran instead of the wax tree. This didn't work because it wasn't possible to add fragrance to the rice bran wax. However, Daiyo took this into consideration and made a candle that is perfect for places where fragrance is not needed. Compared to Western candles that use petroleum, rice bran wax is smokeless and odorless, making it perfect for restaurants and other dining establishments. In addition to being used for light, Japanese candles can also be used as common household goods, just like plates and bowls, and they are once again becoming a part of our daily lives. The Appeal of Japan's World-Renowned Candles Source :YouTube screenshot The purely plant-based Japanese candle is highly regarded overseas for its environmental friendliness. To make a Japanese candle wick, a bamboo skewer is wrapped with Japanese paper and the stems of soft rush. Melted wax is then taken in the hand, and the wick is rolled and waxed. The wax thickness is then adjusted by repeating the waxing. Since Japanese candles use only Japanese paper and the stems of the soft rush, they are 100% plant-based and do not produce soot. The flickering flame is another unique quality of Japanese candles. Furthermore, painted candles are also very popular both in Japan and abroad. By mixing colored Japan wax into the painted candles, they can be molded properly and have a glossy appearance. The appeal of Japanese candles is spreading overseas as well, and they are highly valued around the world. Where to Buy Japanese Candles Photo:A Kyo-rousoku candle There are very few stores in Japan that sell traditional Japanese candles. In addition to Imazu, Takashima in Shiga Prefecture, Ehime Prefecture is famous for Uchiko candles, Fukui Prefecture for Echizen candles, and Fukushima Prefecture for Aizu painted candles. In addition, you can buy special Japanese candles at Matsumoto Shoten in Nishinomiya in Hyogo Prefecture. There are also stores in Tokyo and Kyoto that sell Japanese candles. These days, Japanese candles can also be purchased online, where you can choose from a variety of products from the comfort of your own home. A Tidbit on Japanese Candles The weight of Japanese candles is expressed in "monme." 1 monme is equal to approximately 3.75 grams. A 1 monme candle is about 7 cm long and burns for about 25 to 30 minutes. Summary of Traditional Japanese Candles Japanese candles date back roughly 650 years. Nowadays, they are highly valued overseas, and are considered to be environmentally friendly candles. However, it is also true that the number of candle makers is decreasing as candles have become less prevalent in modern society. Therefore, Daiyo, an old Japanese candle workshop in Imazu, Takashima, Shiga, continues pass down the craft, despite the challenges it faces. Discover the charm of a long-established Japanese candle shop that has been around for more than 100 years! 【Official Website】Handmade Japanese Candles - Daiyo https://warousokudaiyo.com/ -
