How to Use Onsen: Video Introduction 温泉おんせんの入はいり方かたの動画どうが紹介しょうかい This video, titled "Japanese ONSEN Manners" (日本にほんの温泉おんせんマナー Japanese ONSEN Manners), was uploaded by "LetsJapanCh." It introduces how to use onsen in Japan. What Are Japan's Onsen? Sen (Spring)) in kanji, is the Japanese word for "hot spring." Japan is one of the world's leading hot spring countries, and there are around 28,000 onsen in Japan. It's not known exactly when Japan's onsen culture came to be, but records of onsen appear in historical texts, such as the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan), from Japan's Nara Period (710-794). Onsen Rules/Etiquette & How to Use Onsen in Japan Photo:Noren at a public bath(写真しゃしん:銭湯せんとうの暖簾のれんのイメージ) Because Japan's onsen culture dates back more than 1,000 years, there are many different rules, manners, and customs to observe when using them. Let's take a look at how to use onsen in Japan. As shown in the video, there are two entrances at an onsen- one for women and one for men. The entrances are marked by curtains called "Noren." The noren for the men's onsen generally have the kanji '男' (man), while the noren for the women's onsen have the kanji '女' (woman). If you're not used to Japan's onsen culture, this may come as a surprise, but before entering an onsen, one must get completely naked. This means no swimsuits, slippers, etc. One reason is that wearing swimsuits can dirty the water, but another reason is that the swimsuits will weaken the therapeutic effects of the onsen. [Video] 0:58 - What to Wear in a Japanese Onsen 【動画どうが】0:58~ 日本にほんの温泉おんせんでの服装ふくそうについて Before entering an onsen there are a few other things one must do. The first is to pour water over the body. This is to acclimate your body to the temperature of the onsen, and also to wash the body of dirt and cleanse it of impurities/evil spirits. [Video] 1:22 - Pouring Water Over Oneself Before Entering the Onsen 【動画どうが】1:22~ 温泉おんせんに入はいる前まえにかけ湯ゆ After cleansing your body, it's time for a shower. Unlike normal showers where you would shower standing up, it's proper manners to sit down when showering at an onsen. This is to prevent the water from splashing on others who may also be showering. Onsen are shared spaces, and so it's important to be mindful of others. [Video] 2:13 - Showering Before Entering the Onsen 【動画どうが】2:13~ 温泉おんせんに入はいる前まえにシャワー Many people may think it's common sense to not bring stools into the baths, but it's still a important. Actually, bringing any outside objects into the onsen is generally considered bad manners. Things like squirt guns, pool noodles, etc., are not allowed in onsen. While onsen are a place for relaxing, sleeping inside or near the baths is bad manners. Sleeping inside the baths is also dangerous as well, so definitely avoid doing this. As mentioned above, onsen are a shared space for relaxation. It's good manners to keep your voice down when enjoying the onsen. If you're with a friend and want to talk, be sure to talk quietly. Naturally, singing, yelling, etc., is bad manners. These manners also apply to saunas in Japan as well. [Video] 3:02 - Staying Quiet When Using Onsen 【動画どうが】3:02~ 温泉おんせんを利用りようするときは静しずかに After you've finished relaxing in the onsen and are ready to return to the dressing room, it's important to wipe your body off first. This is so that the floors of the dressing room don't get wet. [Video] 3:40 - Wiping Down Before Entering the Dressing Room 【動画どうが】3:40~ 体からだを拭ふいてから脱衣室だついしつに戻もどる Bathing in an onsen expends energy and the heat causes you to sweat, reducing the amount of water in the body. Because of this, it's important to relax for a while after bathing in the onsen, and grab some water or a sports drink to rehydrate. Many onsen in Japan provide yukata that guests can wear after bathing, and a lounge where they can relax. Can You Enter Onsen in Japan With Tattoos? One of the most frequently asked questions foreign travelers to Japan have when wanting to visit an onsen is whether or not it's okay to enter onsen with tattoos. Unfortunately, the answer to this is generally no. The reason for this is tattoos in Japan have long been associated with criminal organizations. In the past, criminals in Japan were even marked with a tattoo so that they could be easily identified. That being said, there are some onsen in Japan where you can enter with tattoos. Furthermore, there are places that allow you to enter as long as you cover up your tattoos. This can be done with special bandages and sprays sold in Japan. Unfortunately, some places won't let you enter even if you offer to cover up tattoos. In this case, there's not much you can do, and you're better off just finding a new place. It shouldn't be hard though with how many onsen there are in Japan. The Different Types of Onsen in Japan Photo:A bulletin board with health benefits written on it at Kinosaki Onsen(写真しゃしん:城崎温泉きのさきおんせん・効能こうのうが書かかれた掲示板けいじばん) Japan's onsen are said to be good for one's health, but there are many different types of onsen in Japan, and they all have slightly different health benefits. Below we'll introduce some of the different types of onsen in Japan. Standard, transparent hot springs with a small amount of minerals. Hot springs that contain salt and are good for muscle and joint pain. Hot springs that contain sulfates. Yu Akari – A Winter Illumination at Kurokawa Onsen: Video Introduction This video, titled "Yu Akari 10-Year Anniversary Video" (湯あかり10周年記念動画), was uploaded by "Minamioguni Tourist Association" (南小国町観光協会). This video chronicles the 10-year history of Yu Akari at Kurokawa Onsen in Aso, Kumamoto, in Japan's Kyushu region, starting from the winter of 2012 through 2022. Yu Akari – A Winter Tradition at Kurokawa Onsen Photo:A hot spring inn at Kurokawa Onsen Yu Akari began after the head of the Kurokawa Onsen Tourism Association, noticing that winter in Kurokawa was slow, decided to create an event that visitors could enjoy during the winter months as well. The video shows the tranquil scenery of Kurokawa Onsen during winter. [Video] 0:20 - Snow Falling and the Beautiful Sound of a Murmuring River In modern Japan, dilapidated bamboo groves are becoming a problem all over the country. Kurokawa Onsen is no exception. The number of abandoned bamboo groves has been increasing, and is a constant source of concern. Under such circumstances, Kurokawa Onsen made efforts to thin out and regenerate the bamboo forests in order to maintain the beautiful satoyama environment. The new tourist attraction Yu Akari is a part of these activities to combat dilapidated bamboo groves. In 2022, Yu Akari celebrated its 10th anniversary and is now spreading throughout the town of Minamioguni. Starting something new is not an easy task in a tourist attraction known for its history, and sustaining it can be even more difficult. In Kurokawa Onsen, the younger generation has taken over the tradition of Kurokawa Onsen, with the strength from their predecessors, and has continued to create, nurture, and grow Yu Akari as a community. Photo:Yu Akari, Kurokawa Onsen Yu Akari is an event in which bamboo lanterns of various shapes and sizes are lit up throughout the town. They are positioned and illuminated so that they blend in with the natural landscape of the town, such as along the river and at shrines. The faint illuminations blend into the cold winter air and have become popular in recent years for their photogenic nature. You can see the director of the Kurokawa Onsen Tourism Association talking about the philosophy of the hot spring in the video. [Video] 0:52 - Kurokawa Onsen – One Ryokan for the Entire Community Event Dates and Illumination Hours for Kurokawa Onsen's Yu Akari Photo:Yu Akari, Kurokawa Onsen For its 10-year anniversary, the event ran from Saturday, December 18, 2021 to Sunday, April 3, 2022. Japan's Public Baths This video, titled "Boys Stepping Into a Public Bath for the First Time. Cow Soap Commercial 'My First Trip To a Sento Bathhouse'" (銭湯、そのレトロ空間に初めて足を踏み入れた少年たちは…?牛乳石鹸CM「はじめての銭湯」篇), was released by "moviecollectionjp." Public baths, or "銭湯" (sento) in Japanese, are one of many Japanese cultures. There are many people who know the word "sento" but have never actually been to one. As the number of sento open for business decreases year after year, the opportunity to actually visit a sento for a bath is dwindling. To promote "Good Bath Day" on November 26, this video introduces the charms of Japan's sento. If you're interested in Japanese traditional culture, be sure to give it a watch! November 26, Good Bath Day Source :YouTube screenshot This video will help you learn how to enter a sento and what to be mindful about. If you're thinking about going to a sento in Japan, this video is a good place to start. In public places, such as sento, people are expected to behave in a respectful manner. Japanese and English subtitles are displayed at key points, so overseas travelers can easily understand what's happening. Learn How to Enjoy Japan's Sento in the Video Source :YouTube screenshot When you enter the bathhouse, the first thing you need to do is put your shoes in a locker, as shown at 0:19 in the video. Be sure not to lose the key! After paying the clerk, it's time for a bath! From 0:47 in the video, you can see children washing their bodies. At sento, it's good manners to wash your body before soaking in the baths. From 0:59 in the video, you can see adults and children helping to wash one another's backs, which is another charm of Japan's sento culture. It’s also important to follow proper etiquette, such as not entering the baths with a towel, and not diving into the water. After you've enjoyed your time at the bathhouse, there are certain manners to follow when getting out of the baths, such as putting away any buckets, etc. you used and wiping your body off properly. You can see a massage chair at 1:50 in the video. You can use these after a bath to revitalize your body. The video ends with the children bidding farewell to the woman at the booth. It's important to maintain good manners with people, not only in Japan's sento but when using other public facilities as well. So What Kind of Place Are Japan's Sento Exactly? Photo:A cypress bath and bucket at a sento Sento are public bathhouses in Japan. They are also called furoya (風呂屋) or yuya (湯屋) in Japanese. At sento, a boiler is used to boil a large amount of water, and tall exhaust chimneys are often a feature of a sento. Some public bathhouses use hot springs, and one of the best ways to enjoy visiting public bathhouses in Japan is to learn about the different types of spring water they use. Another appeal of Japan's sento is that you can enjoy a variety of baths, including cold water baths, denkiburo (baths with a slight electric current), waterfall baths, jet baths, medicinal baths, open-air baths, saunas, ganban'yoku, and more. Large scale public bathhouses are called "Super Sento" and often offer meals and other services. Another feature of public bathhouses is that the walls are generally decorated with special paintings and tiles. When you visit Japan, be sure to take a relaxing soak while enjoying the beautiful decorations of the bathhouse. The Roots and History of Japan's Sento Photo:Sento It is said that sento originate from the time when Buddhism was introduced to Japan. The reason sento were built was for monks to cleanse their bodies. Bathhouses were set up in temples and were popular not only among monks, but also among the impoverished. Summary of Japan's Traditional Sento Photo:Sento equipment Japanese culture is very profound, and sento are no exception. Before you actually visit a sento, be sure to check out this video to learn the manners and rules of Japan's public bathhouses first. The Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival: Video Introduction This video, titled "Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival" (湯西川温泉 かまくら祭 Kamakura Festival), was uploaded by "Nikko Walking" (日光を歩く Nikko Walking). The video introduces the Yunishikawa Onsen Kamakura Festival, an event held in Nikko, Tochigi, in Japan's Kanto Region. "Kamakura" (かまくら) is the Japanese word for "Igloo." The festival features both full-size igloos that are large enough to fit people and small-size miniature igloos with candles, and the atmosphere at night is quite romantic. The candlelight emanating from each igloo is fantastic. Check out the video to see what the Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival is like. Yunishigawa Onsen, Home to a Charming Igloo Festival Photo:Yunishigawa Onsen, Nikko, Tochigi Yunishigawa Onsen is located in Nikko National Park in Nikko, Tochigi. It's a historic hot spring where Heike warriors, who fled after being defeated in the Battle of Dan-no-Ura during the Genpei War, are said to have healed their wounds with a hot spring they found bubbling up on the riverbank. The springs of Yunishigawa Onsen are simple alkaline hot springs, and are known as beauty springs for their skin-cleansing properties. In addition, Yagen no Yu (薬研の湯), an open-air hot spring managed by a ryokan, is located along the river and can be used free of charge. It's popular among hot spring enthusiasts because visitors can bathe in the hot spring while enjoying the quiet murmur of the Yunishigawa River and the townscape of the fallen Heike Clan. Because of its location along the Yunishigawa River valley, it's covered with snow during the winter. The Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival is an annual event held from January, when the snow begins to deepen, to take advantage of the accumulated snow. Heike no Sato – The History of the Festival's Venue Photo:Igloos at a festival site, Heike no Sato The Heike (Taira clan) was a family of Taira no Kiyomori who came to power at the end of the Heian Period (794-1185). Heike Monogatari (平家物語, The Tale of the Heike), a historical tale depicting the Heike Clan from its height of power to its downfall, is quite popular in Japan. At Yunishigawa Onsen, where the fallen members of the Heike Clan are said to have lived, there are many hidden stories, legends, and customs that remain. Heike no Sato (平家の里, lit. "Village of the Heike (Taira) Clan") is a facility that introduces the Heike Clan and Yunishigawa Onsen. Heike no Sato, which is also one of the venues for the Kamakura Festival, is a recommended place for history buffs, with exhibits of tools used in daily life at the time, as well as special products, and a family tree of the Heike Clan. The historical thatched-roofed hall is surrounded by nature, and visitors can enjoy the scenery of Japan's four seasons here. Take a stroll through the hot spring resort and give this place a visit! Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival Highlights Photo:Mini igloos at Yunushigawa Onsen's Kamakura Festival The Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival is a popular annual event that has been held since 1994 to take advantage of the deep snow to attract tourists. The event will be held from January 26 to February 25, 2024. While the view of kamakura during the daytime is popular among tourists, the sight of mini kamakura lit with warm lights at night is a popular topic of conversation as it is very Instagram-worthy. The mini kamakura are lit on weekends, Fridays and Saturdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The view along the Sawaguchi Riverbank has been recognized as a Night View Heritage of Japan. [Video] 1:10 - Illuminated Mini Igloos Shuttle buses will be running from inns and hotels at Yunishigawa Onsen to the venue during the festival period. Since the number of guests will increase, early reservations are recommended for those planning a trip. For those living in the neighboring areas, we recommend enjoying a day trip to the hot springs and enjoying the Kamakura Festival at night. The Popular Igloo Barbecue at the Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival The popular Kamakura Barbecue takes place every year at the Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival. [Video] 1:07 - Kamakura Barbecue Ryokan of Yunishikawa Onsen 'Saiyukashi' "Hana and Hana" also includes accommodation plans with the privilege of being able to eat ""oshiruko"" and ""yudofu"" in a kotatsu inside a large kamakura made in the courtyard of the building." You’ll feel the urge to visit Hiroshima’s Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan after watching this video! Yunoyama Onsen: A Place Where Even the Feudal Lords of Hiroshima Have Bathed Source :YouTube screenshot Yunoyama Onsen is a natural hot spring in Hiroshima Prefecture, Hiroshima City, Saeki Ward, in the Chugoku region of Japan (中国地方広島県広島市佐伯区, Chugoku-chiho Hiroshima-ken Hiroshima-shi Saeki-ku). The waters of the hot spring, which have been flowing for generations, are known as the Yunoyama Myojin Reiken-no-yu (湯ノ山明神霊験の湯, Yunoyama myojin reiken-no-yu), and the sanatorium itself is a spiritual place where many come to worship. Yunoyama Onsen has a long history, with its waters beginning to flow in 1707, more than 300 years ago. In 1750, the Hiroshima Clan constructed the sanatorium, Yunoyama Myojinja (湯の山明神社, Yunoyama myojinja), which was later designated an Important Intangible Folk-Cultural Property of Japan. The head of the clan, Asano Yoshinaga, bathed in these waters. The Yunoyama Onsen of that time was as busy and bustling as 37 hot spring hotels, with many coming to visit. At 0:07 in the video, you can see a signboard on which is written “Hiroshima Clan Head Asano Sanatorium.” The history and origin of the Yunoyama Onsen is also recorded in Japan’s ancient history tomes. 1958 Yunoyama Sanatorium (湯之山旧湯治場, Yunoyama kyu-tojiba) was designated a Historic Site of Hiroshima Prefecture. 1972 Together with Yuki Onsen (湯来温泉, Yuki onsen), the Yuki・Yunoyama Onsen (湯来・湯の山温泉, Yuki・Yunoyama onsen) was designated a National Hot Spring Health Resort by the Minister of the Environment, and it became an exceedingly popular destination. This designation refers to hot springs which are suitable for promoting health and relaxation, with only 21 hot springs in all of Japan awarded this honor. 1974 Yunoyama Myojin Kyu-tojiba was designated an Important Tangible Folk-Cultural Property of Japan. The Yunoyama Onsen, run by Yukicho, was opened. 1991 “Yuki Yunoyama Onsen” was designated a National Hot Spring Health Resort especially suitable for the promotion of health. 1994 Kua House Yunoyama (クアハウス湯の山, Kua hausu yunoyama), run by Yukicho, was opened. Yunoyama Onsen was selected as one of the top hot springs in Japan for recuperation. The waters are unique in that they contain weak radioactive substances, and the temperature is a low 23.5 degrees celsius (74° F). The waters are effective for easing the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, poor circulation, mild hypertension and chronic disease. As shown in the video, there are two hotels near Yunoyama Onsen, namely the Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan and the Yunoyama Onsenkan. At the Yunoyama Onsenkan, the Utase-yu (打たせ湯, Utase-yu), where water falls from an outcrop 4 meters high, is quite famous. About Hiroshima’s Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan Source :YouTube screenshot Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan is a hot spring hotel located at Hiroshima Prefecture, Hiroshima City, Saeki Ward, Yukicho, Wada 464湯来町和田464, Yukicho wada 464). It takes about 40 minutes from the Itsukaichi IC on the Sanyo Expressway (山陽自動車道の五日市IC, Sanyo jidosha-do no itsukaichi IC) to get there. Free parking is available. Another method is to take the bus from the Itsukaichi Station off the JR Sanyo Main Line (山陽本線JR五日市駅, Sanyo honsen JR itsukaichi-eki). The trip takes approximately 60 minutes. Constructed in 1935, more than 80 years ago, this is a hot spring area which upholds the value of “local production for local consumption.” The bath itself being a small, homely size with few rooms, this hotel is not one of those fashionable places generating buzz on travel sites. However, for the purpose of soaking up the simple atmosphere of the Showa era, and having a relaxing time, this place is the perfect getaway. There is a private onsen available for booking as well. It's introduced at 0:47 in the video. As for meals, the wild game nabe (hot pot) with boar meat purchased from local huntsmen, as well as dishes made using seasonal local produce, are popular. This is shown at 0:33 in the video. A day trip plan is available, where you can make use of the private bath as well as the rooms, with lunch provided. As for overnight stays, there are a variety of plans available, such as the provision of meals made with seasonal produce, a business plan, training camps, stays lasting for more than two nights, and more. Information About the Surroundings of Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan Photo:Yunoyama doctor fish footbath Nearby Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan is Kua House Yunoyama, which is equipped with water slides and an indoor hot spring pool. A hot spring meant for day trips is also available. Located in Kua House Yunoyama’s parking lot is the Kinsai Yunoyama (きんさい湯の山, Kinsai yunoyama), a farm-fresh produce delivery market. Locally-produced fresh vegetables, rice, homemade konnyaku jelly and more; there are a variety of seasonal goods available which cannot be found anywhere else. Furthermore, there is even the Yunoyama Footbath (湯の山の足湯, Yunoyama-no-ashiyu), with "doctor fish." There, you can soak to your heart’s content in the sacred waters of Yunoyama Myojinja. The facilities are open 24 hours. There is no designated fee, so all you have to do is place coins into the offering box as you see fit. As shown from 0:49 in the video, there are weeping cherry trees (枝垂れ桜, Shidare-zakura) both at the entrance of the Yunoyama Onsen as well as inside the shrine. This sight can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons. Summary of Hiroshima’s Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan In Hiroshima, there are many hot spring areas such as Miyahama Onsen (宮浜温泉, Miyahama onsen), Hiroshima Onsen (広島温泉, Hiroshima onsen), Kinoe Onsen (きのえ温泉, Kinoe onsen), Ryu Onsen (龍温泉, Ryu-onsen), Megadaira Onsen (女鹿平温泉, Megadaira onsen), Kimita Onsen (君田温泉, Kimita onsen), Yuki Onsen (湯来温泉, Yurai onsen), Tomo-no-Ura Onsen (鞆の浦温泉, Tomo-no-ura onsen), Nukui Onsen (温井温泉, Nukui onsen), Shobara Sakura Onsen (庄原さくら温泉, Shobara sakura onsen), Miharashi Onsen (みはらし温泉, Miharashi onsen), and more. When visiting Hiroshima, we recommend taking a bath and relaxing in the hot springs. Although Yunoyama Onsen is not a ‘fashionable’ place by any means, what it is, is a place with rich history, and springs so amazing that even feudal lords bathed in them. Enjoy soaking up the simple atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era, at Yunoyama Onsen. ◆Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan Facilities Overview◆ 【Address】〒738-0601 Hiroshima Prefecture, Hiroshima City, Saeki Ward, Yukicho Wada 464 【Access】60 minutes by bus from JR Sanyo Main Line Itsukaichi Station 【Parking】Available 【Phone Number】0829-83-0403 【Tripadvisor】Yunoyama Onsen Morii Ryokan https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g298561-d10023044-Reviews-Morii_Ryokan-Hiroshima_Hiroshima_Prefecture_Chugoku.html -

Fujiya Ryokan in Yugawara, Kanagawa This video, titled " Fujiya Ryokan [Selected Lodgings to Visit on Weekends]" (富士屋旅館【週末に訪れたくなる厳選宿】), was uploaded by "Relux Lodging Diary" (Relux宿日記). Fujiya Ryokan, featured in the video, is a popular long-established hot spring inn located in Yugawara, Kanagawa, in Japan's Kanto region, near Hakone. The hot springs and scenic beauty of the area between Yugawara and Hakone have a long history that is mentioned in ancient texts, such as the Manyoshu. Fujiya Ryokan already had a predecessor building in the late Edo period (around 1750-1860 AD), and the oldest building today, the Old Building, was built in 1923. The oldest building, the "Old Building" (旧館, Kyuu-kan) was built in 1923, making it a building with nearly 100 years of history. The New Building, the Old Building, and Rakumiso, all of which have equally elegant guest rooms, are connected by a long corridor that leads to the large bathhouse, allowing visitors to enjoy a stroll through the Japanese garden before a relaxing bath. The Old Building, the (as its name implies) oldest building at the inn, provides guests with a stylish and tranquil space with a Taisho-modern taste of the time inherited through the use of fine 13.68-centimeter square pillars made of Japanese cypress and glass doors with kumiko panels. The New Building is a high-quality guest room that provides a conscious blend of Japanese and Western styles while maintaining the retro feel of the Showa period. The guest rooms can be viewed at 0:43 in the video. The History of Fujiya Ryokan in Yugawara, Kanagawa Source :YouTube screenshot According to "Guide to Yugawara" (湯河原案内, yugawara an'nai) published in 1918, Fujiya Ryokan started its business as a hot spring inn in 1920, and was called "Juhoen" at the time. After crossing the long bridge over the Fujiki River, you'll see a vast site lined with towers and annexes, and it is introduced as a famous ryokan where you can enjoy nature and flowers in every season. The large bath is a hot spring cypress bath with a weak saline solution (weak alkalinity), and is considered a beauty spring because its pH is close to that of human skin. You can see the large bath at 2:39 of the video. Of course, visitors can also enjoy the hot spring water in the indoor baths of their guest room. Fujiya Ryokan has been loved by many Japanese literary figures, including Doppo Kunikida, Natsume Soseki, Yosano Akiko, and Junichiro Tanizaki. Gourmet Dining at Fujiya Ryokan in Yugawara, Kanagawa Source :YouTube screenshot When you think of hot spring inns, besides the hot springs and luxurious rooms, if there's anything you don't want to miss out on, it's the delicious cuisine they serve. Fujiya Ryokan's restaurant, Hyorokutei, offers dishes that will make even the most seasoned gourmet's taste buds sing. The name "Hyorokutei" comes from the traditional good omen for good health - Gourds (Hyotan in Japanese). It combines the words "gourd" (Hyo)tan, six (roku), and "restaurant" (tei). (※Gourds have long been a good luck charm for good health in Japan) Savor the mouthwatering fish dishes made with a wide variety of Higashi-Izu seafood from Sagami Bay, as well as premium ingredients, such as Japanese black beef, locally harvested game dishes, and domestic eel. We also recommend the "dancing icefish," which you can see in the video at 2:18, served with ginger vinegar, a specialty of Yugawara. If you're too busy for an overnight stay, Fujiya Ryokan's one-day hot spring and gourmet plan is a great option. At Hyorokutei, even on a day trip, you can enjoy sumptuous kaiseki cuisine, shabu-shabu made with local sea bream, charcoal-grilled meat, and other delectable dishes. Summary of Fujiya Ryokan in Yugawara, Kanagawa Source :YouTube screenshot What did you think? Fujiya Ryokan, introduced in the video, has been chosen by foreign tourists as one of the best inns in Japan. Once you stay there, it's almost inevitable that you'll become a repeat guest! Jigoku Meguri: A Sightseeing Spot at Beppu Onsen in Oita Prefecture. Maybe a Little Scary, but Does It Really Look Like Hell? Let’s Take a Look!
Local PR Travel- 114 plays
- YouTube
Jigoku Meguri, Located in Beppu Onsen, Oita Prefecture This is an introductory video of Beppu Onsen's Jigoku Meguri, produced by "Japan Explorers." Hot springs are a must when traveling in Japan. Oita prefecture’s Beppu City is popular among tourists from both Japan and overseas as one of the most famous hot spring places. Let’s check out the video about Jigoku Meguri, where you can fully enjoy the greatness of Kyushu's Beppu Onsen. This video introduces the hot springs that are literally called "Hell." Does it really look like hell though? Find out for yourself! What Is Jigoku Meguri? Photo:Oniishibozu hot springs Beppu Onsen's Jigoku Meguri is a sightseeing course where you can visit places called “Hells,” among Oita, Beppu's hot springs. There are 7 hot springs referred to as "Hells": Sea Hell (about 98℃), Oniishi Bozu Hell (about 99℃), Kamado Hell (about 90℃), Oniyama Hell (about 99.1℃), White Pond Hell (about 95℃), Blood Pond Hell (about 78℃), and Tornado Hell (about 105℃). The qualities of each "hell" is different. For example, the Sea Hell contains iron sulfate, creating a bluish color. The blue Sea Hell is introduced in the video at 0:18. The water lily that younger elementary school children can stand on is quite famous. Beyond the gate of Hell lays Blood Pond Hell. This spring contains magnesium oxide turning the mud within it red. The red Blood Pond Hell is introduced in the video at 1:03, and you can see how creepy it is in the video. People used to cook rice using the steam from “Kamado Hell.” Here there are many hot springs spanning several blocks (1 chome- 6 chome). You can eat hot spring eggs cooked using the steam from these springs. The History of Oita Prefecture’s Jigoku Meguri in Beppu City The history of Beppu city’s Jigoku Meguri goes back quite far. There are records that shows these hot springs were called “hells” even during the Edo Period (1603-1868). From the Meiji Period, many villas developed near Beppu Onsen. By this time, the natural hot spring "hells," with their boiling water, had become popular among hot spring visitors, not for bathing, but for sightseeing purposes. On the Jigoku Meguri course, there are spots where you can enjoy a foot bath heated just right, which is perfect for taking a break during your sightseeing. Sightseeing at Oita Prefecture’s Jigoku Meguri at Beppu Onsen Photo:Beppu's hot springs at night At Oita prefecture’s Beppu Onsen area, you can see steam from hot springs rising up from all over the area. Beppu Jigoku Meguri, where you can enjoy the unique landscape of the hot spring area, is a secret sightseeing course perfect for people who want to enjoy relaxing in Japan’s hot springs. Make wonderful memories by checking out the unique landscape of these "hells," a sight you won't find anywhere else. “Blood Pond Medical Cream,” made from the mud of Blood Pond Hell, is said to be good for skin disorders, and we recommended it as a souvenir. Be sure to check it out when you're souvenir hunting! We also recommend taking a bath at the day-use hot spring accommodation “Oniishi no Yu.” The spring's natural minerals are effective against cold sensitivity and aid in recovery from fatigue, so if you're feeling weary, be sure to drop by! Summary of Oita Prefecture’s Jigoku Meguri at Beppu Onsen 5 of the 7 sightseeing spots at the hot springs of Jigoku Meguri can be visited by foot, but Blood Pond Hell and Tornado Hell are located in the Kamegawa Area, which is a little far to walk to. That being said you'll want to use the local transportation, such as buses. Be sure to check out all of the sightseeing spots and enjoy the supreme relaxation that Japan’s hot springs has to offer. The admission tickets that allow you to visit all 7 hells, is sold at 2,000 JPY (~$20 USD) for adults (as of November, 2019). Hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We we're only able to talk about the red and blue hot springs in this article, but the video has a lot more to offer, such as the green and brown hot springs. Enjoy watching the hell-like scenery of Oita Prefecture's Jigoku Meguri, in the video! ◆Beppu Jigoku Meguri Basic Information◆ 【Address】559-1, Kannawa, Beppu City, Oita, ZIP 874-0000 【Access】15 minutes by taxi from Nippou Line’s Beppu Station 【Admission fee】 Adults 2,000 JPY (as of November, 2019) 【Hours】8:00 AM – 5:00 PM 【Closures】None 【Parking】Free parking for up to 690 cars among the 7 hells 【Telephone No】0977-66-1577 【Official Website】Beppu Jigoku Meguri Official Website (Beppu Jigoku Association) http://www.beppu-jigoku.com/ 【Official Website】Beppu City, Oita Prefecture City Hall Official Website https://translate.google.com/translate?depth=1&hl=en&rurl=translate.google.co.jp/index.html&sl=ja&tl=en&u=https://www.city.beppu.oita.jp/ -
