The word “Genbi” is an abbreviation of “Gendai Bijutsu (現代美術),” meaning “modern art” in Japanese. This train, limitedly operated by JR East Joetsu Shinkansen, belongs to the Niigata Shinkansen Vehicle Center. When its operation started in 2016, the Genbi Shinkansen used to run between Echigoyuzawa Station to Niigata Station only within Niigata prefecture. After 2017, however, it now runs between Niigata Station and Tokyo Station as a travel-only train. It also runs from Sendai in Fukushima to Omiyama in Saitama for a special tour. In this three-minute video, you can see the production scene of the Genbi Shinkansen until its debut. Did you know that such a beautiful train runs in Japan...? What Is the Genbi Shinkansen? A Look at Its Designs! Source :YouTube screenshot The Genbi Shinkansen in Niigata attracts the attention of many people, as it’s known as the train of the “fastest art appreciation gallery in the world.” As a train with a brand-new concept of the “moving museum,” the Genbi Shinkansen displays many modern artworks made for this bullet train. The artwork on the body of the train, which you can see at 0:40 in the video, is designed by Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa. The inside of the train was designed and created by a lot of artists. Many artists designed and created various exteriors and interiors, which make for great photos. In 2018, the exterior design was renewed; the Genbi Shinkansen became a more attractive bullet train. As of November 2019, the Genbi Shinkansen runs as a temporary train of the bullet train “Toki (No. 451-456),” making three round trips a day, mainly on Saturdays and holidays. It operates between Echigoyuzawa Station and Niigata Station within Niigata prefecture, which takes about 50 minutes. It stops at the following five stations: Echigoyuzawa Station, Urasa Station, Nagaoka Station, Tsubamesanjo Station, and Niigata Station. The Interior of the Genbi Shinkansen! Source :YouTube screenshot As seen at 0:59 in the video, people started to work on the interior of the Genbi Shinkansen at the Niigata Shinkansen Vehicle Center in February 2016. The 11th car (designed by the artist Nao Matsumoto), is a reserved seat car with limited express tickets, and is designed with the concept of the “five harvests,” “festivals,” and “lights,” while the 12th car (designed by the artist Yusuke Komuta) is designed with mirrors to reflect the world through its car windows. You can also enjoy each innovative contemporary art exhibit in the 14th car (designed by the photographer Naoki Ishikawa), the 15th car (designed by the artist Haruka Kojin), and the 16th car (designed by the artist Brian Alfred). Shibuya Gone Wild! Tokyo's Nightscape in a Masquerade of Colors and Costumes! Halloween has become one of October's main features in Japan, too, and in Tokyo, both Shibuya and Roppongi host a variety of Halloween events. TOKYObrah's video “HALLOWEEN IN TOKYO, JAPAN! Tokyo Halloween! Shibuya Party 4K(HALLOWEEN IN TOKYO, JAPAN! 東京ハロウィン! 渋谷パーティ 4K)” presents Shibuya’s Halloween celebrations from the eyes of a foreigner. Just watching the participants wearing their costumes is indeed a lot of fun! The Heart of Tokyo’s Halloween Is in Shibuya Photo:Halloween masquerade A crowd of dressed-up people piles up in front of the JR Shibuya train station, moving towards Shibuya Crossing. Even the Japanese, known for being shy, become open and friendly on Halloween, and people in the video often wave at the cameraman with a smile. Join Tokyo’s Halloween Parade! Source :YouTube screenshot When asked to pose for the video, many girls in their different costumes gave their best shot at it in spite of their shyness. The cameramen, too, who was dressed as Lionel Messi, managed to gather a crowd of people all dressed the same as him, with minimal effort. Wearing a costume makes it easier to open up with strangers, which is what makes Halloween so special. Other Foreigners Joined the Halloween Party, Too! Many foreigners gather in the city for Halloween, and some of them show up dressed as famous characters. The celebrations have been getting bigger and bigger every year, and this makes it easier for people from abroad to participate. Everybody chants with a smile “Happy Halloween!” and “Trick or Treat!” It’s Not Just a Halloween Costume Party! Source :YouTube screenshot Even among the more casual costumes there are some that really catch the eye, like the cute bunny girls or the TV characters from local comedy shows. The Jack Sparrow costume at 5:40 and 6:45 are really spectacular, and deserve a special mention. High quality costumes are one of the main attractions of Shibuya's Halloween, and often get featured in the news. Halloween’s Origins: The Harvest Festival The Jack-o'-lantern, Halloween’s omnipresent carved pumpkin, is a symbol everyone knows. Halloween was originally a religious celebration aimed at getting rid of the evil spirits during the harvest season, but as the years went by it shifted towards a more folkloristic event where kids dressed up in scary costumes and were rewarded with treats. In Japan, trick-or-treating was soon abandoned in favor of a costume party event for young people. Tokyo’s Halloween: Summary In Tokyo, lots of young people cosplay during the last weekend of October. As you can see from the video many people dressed as famous Japanese anime characters, while others chose more old-fashioned costumes, like witches and zombies. This is an event that anyone can enjoy, regardless of age or nationality. Even though the video conveys the excitement of Shibuya’s Halloween, it's even better to experience it in person. If you’re in Tokyo in October, make sure you don't miss it! -

Himeji Castle's Colorful 3D Projection Mapping This video was created by “beaphoto1” and introduces Himeji Castle's 3D projection mapping event- "HAKUA." This event was held in May 2015. The national treasure Himeji castle, located in Honmachi, Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, was designated as Japan's first World Cultural Heritage Site in December 1993, along with Horyu-ji Temple in Nara. Nicknamed "Shirasagi Castle" (白鷺城, lit "White Heron Castle") for its graceful appearance that resembles a white heron spreading its wings, it has been selected as one of the 100 most famous castles in Japan. Photo:Himeji Castle post-restoration In October 2009, the restoration and repair of the castle's main tower began, which included repainting the plaster and replacing damaged tiles. Himeji castle regained its brilliance and re-opened in March 2015. The light show, "HAKUA," was held to celebrate the reopening of Himeji Castle as the part of the 66th Himeji Castle Festival. In the 11 minute video, you can watch the entire projection mapping show from beginning to end. Enjoy the beautiful 3D projection mapping that lights up the famous white castle. It's amazing how different the castle looks with all of the colorful lighting. The 3D Projection Mapping of Himeji Castle Source :YouTube screenshot The projection mapping event at Himeji castle actually has a story to go with it. Prologue. (0:51) The title and the outline of the story beautifully appears on the white castle. Chapter 1. Prologue -Birth- (1:59) The highlight of this chapter is the construction of Himeji Castle. You can see the construction at 3:10, where the castle is being built as the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves grow around it gradually. As more levels are added to Himeji castle, you can feel the flow of time through the cherry blossoms, red leaves, and snow that signify the changing of the seasons. Chapter 2. Tradition -Legend- (4:56) This chapter shows the birth of Kanbei Kuroda, who later became the lord of Himeji Castle. He aimed to rule the world. Chapter 3. Brilliance -From Tradition to Modernity- (6:15) This chapter shows the pictures of Himeji Castle drawn by 731 elementary school students in Himeji City. 100 of them have been selected and animated. Chapter 4. Conclusion -Finish- (8:11) White herons dance gracefully on Himeji Castle and a grand fireworks display brings the story to a close. This article is only a brief overview of the castle. Be sure to watch the video and enjoy the 3D projection mapping! It's so beautiful watching time pass in the blink of an eye. The history of this projection mapping is surprisingly old, and it is said to have been started in the 1960s. It became more well-know when they had a projection mapping show at the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station in 2012. Introduction to Ishikawa Prefecture’s Beautiful Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces This video, “Ishikawa Shiroyone Senmaida - 白米千枚田 - 4K Ultra HD”, was created by “TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful.” It shows the exquisite view of the Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces dyed in brilliant shades of green. The rice terraces are located in Wajima City (輪島市, Wajima-shi), of Ishikawa Prefecture. The Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces are located in Shiroyone, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture in the Hokuriku region (北陸地方, Hokuriku chiho) of Japan. The view of the rice terraces changes with the seasons, making it a popular sightseeing area. In this article, we'll introduce the history and appeal of the Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces, as well as information for visitors. The rice terraces are considered the epitome of Japanese agriculture, as well as the definitive landscape of Japan. Enjoy exploring the rice terraces shown in the article. Be sure to follow along with the video as well! The Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces Photo:Ishikawa Shiroyone Senmaida The Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces can be found on Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. The rice terraces are said to have been created nearly 400 years ago. There are around 1,004 paddy fields arranged on the steep slopes, each about 20 squares meters in size and in a variety of shapes. The view of the rice terraces descending into the Sea of Japan can be seen at 0:05 in the video. The Shiroyane Senmaida Rice Terraces are designated not only as a national "Place of Scenic Beauty," but also as one of "Japan's Top 100 Terraced Rice Paddies." In addition, the rice terraces are also a "Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System," known as "Noto's Satoyama and Satoumi." As farming machinery is too large for the paddy fields, the traditional hand-farming method "Nawashiroda" (苗代田) is used. The paddy fields all belong to certain owners who are in charge of their maintenance. Every year, the Shiroyone Senmaida Planting and Harvesting Event is held, with the owners and volunteers working together to plant and harvest rice by hand. Photo:Ishikawa Shiroyone Senmaida As you can see in the video, you can enjoy the summer view of the refreshingly green rice terraces. However, the rice terraces change with the seasons, making it a gorgeous view all throughout the year. In the spring, water soaks the paddy fields for rice planting, causing the terraces to sparkle and reflect the blue sky. In autumn, the rice has grown and the terraces turn a beautiful golden-yellow. During the peak rice-harvesting season, there are even wedding ceremonies held at the rice terraces. In winter, the sight of snow covering the rice terraces is absolutely beautiful, and you can also enjoy the illumination along Aze Street, "Aze no Kirameki" (あぜのきらめき, Aze-no-kirameki). The official mascot "Senren-chan" occasionally participates in events as well. The Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces can be accessed through public transport. The rice terraces are a 5-minute walk from the Shiroyone Senmaida bus station, which is 2 and a half hours by bus from Kanazawa station (金沢駅, Kanazawa-eki) in Ishikawa Prefecture. For visitors travelling by personal or rental car, there is a parking area available at the roadside station "Senmaida Pocket Park." The address is- Ishikawa Prefecture, Wajima City, Shiroyanecho 99-5 (石川県輪島市白米町99-5, Ishikawa-ken Wajima-shi Shiroyane-cho 99-5). Summary of Ishikawa Prefecture’s Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces Photo:Aze no Kirameki illumination In this video, “Ishikawa Shiroyone Senmaida - 白米千枚田 - 4K Ultra HD,” you can enjoy the beautiful view of the rice terraces. The sight of the rice terraces and the sea, dyed red by the setting sun, is breathtaking. In Noto Peninsula, there are many other sightseeing areas such as the Kamogaura Promenade (鴨ヶ浦遊歩道, Kamogaura yuhodo), Makaki no Sato Seiho (間垣の里 西保, Aidagaki-no-sato seiho), Elephant Nose Lookout (ゾウゾウ鼻展望台, Zozo-hana tenboudai), Oketaki Falls (桶滝, Oketaki), as well as Nametaki Falls (男女滝, Nametaki). Of course, you can enjoy fresh seafood as well. If you happen to be visiting Kanazawa City, besides the nearby attractions, why not try making a trip to Noto Peninsula as well? The recipe introduced here is an omelet from “Kichi Kichi Omurice" in Nakagyo ward, in Kyoto City that uses a special demiglace sauce. Source :YouTube screenshot Kichi Kichi Omurice's specialty is the omelet, but it's no exaggeration to say that the chef's talk is another highlight of the experience. Also in this video, the chef explains how to make it. First, you fry the ingredients. When the frying pan warms up, add the chicken and fry it, raise the flame, fry the chicken, and saute some onions. This can be seen at 0:06 of the video. After that, add ingredients like green soybeans, which are rare in most omelets, boiled mushrooms, and after stir-frying, add rice to fermented butter, salt pepper and black pepper. After seasoning the rice, placing it in a mold and placing it on a plate, you've got an omelet that both looks and smells amazing. This can be seen from 3:07 in the video. The food is of course delicious, but the chef's light-hearted banter is what keeps customers coming back for more. Look at Those Quick Hands! The Climax Is a Fluffy Egg! Photo:Omelet Once the rice is ready, it is time for the climax, the egg. The making of the eggs starts at 3:27. Spray vegetable oil on a frying pan and put in plenty of eggs. Mix the eggs quickly so that they do not burn. The omelet is shaped properly with fast, yet delicate hands. When the egg is completed, put it on the chicken rice and here comes the climax. Now, here is the biggest highlight of this video! Check out 4:31 in the video to see it! When you cut the egg with a kitchen knife, the fluffy simmering eggs flow like a waterfall! Finally, add the demiglace sauce full of umami and parsley and you're done! Summary of the Ultimate Omelet! Does it really look like hell though? Find out for yourself! What Is Jigoku Meguri? Photo:Oniishibozu hot springs Beppu Onsen's Jigoku Meguri is a sightseeing course where you can visit places called “Hells,” among Oita, Beppu's hot springs. There are 7 hot springs referred to as "Hells": Sea Hell (about 98℃), Oniishi Bozu Hell (about 99℃), Kamado Hell (about 90℃), Oniyama Hell (about 99.1℃), White Pond Hell (about 95℃), Blood Pond Hell (about 78℃), and Tornado Hell (about 105℃). The qualities of each "hell" is different. For example, the Sea Hell contains iron sulfate, creating a bluish color. The blue Sea Hell is introduced in the video at 0:18. The water lily that younger elementary school children can stand on is quite famous. Beyond the gate of Hell lays Blood Pond Hell. This spring contains magnesium oxide turning the mud within it red. The red Blood Pond Hell is introduced in the video at 1:03, and you can see how creepy it is in the video. People used to cook rice using the steam from “Kamado Hell.” Here there are many hot springs spanning several blocks (1 chome- 6 chome). You can eat hot spring eggs cooked using the steam from these springs. The History of Oita Prefecture’s Jigoku Meguri in Beppu City The history of Beppu city’s Jigoku Meguri goes back quite far. There are records that shows these hot springs were called “hells” even during the Edo Period (1603-1868). From the Meiji Period, many villas developed near Beppu Onsen. By this time, the natural hot spring "hells," with their boiling water, had become popular among hot spring visitors, not for bathing, but for sightseeing purposes. On the Jigoku Meguri course, there are spots where you can enjoy a foot bath heated just right, which is perfect for taking a break during your sightseeing. Sightseeing at Oita Prefecture’s Jigoku Meguri at Beppu Onsen Photo:Beppu's hot springs at night At Oita prefecture’s Beppu Onsen area, you can see steam from hot springs rising up from all over the area. We also recommend taking a bath at the day-use hot spring accommodation “Oniishi no Yu.” The spring's natural minerals are effective against cold sensitivity and aid in recovery from fatigue, so if you're feeling weary, be sure to drop by!
