Hon-Yabakei, Oita. One of Japan's Most Beautiful Sightseeing Destinations The video “Drone Trip 本耶馬渓(大分県 中津市),” was created by “大分県中津市” (Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture) as a promotional video to introduce recommended sightseeing spots at the popular sightseeing destination Hon-Yabakei. Hon-Yabakei, with its unique landscape due to lava flow, as well as its collection of historical landmarks, is an immensely popular sightseeing destination. Yabakei is located in Kyushu’s Oita Prefecture, Nakatsu City, Kusu Town (大分県中津市・玖珠町, Oita-ken Nakatsu-shi Kusu-machi). The vast scenic area of historical and cultural importance was even designated as a Heritage Sight of Japan in the year 2017. Besides Yabakei, other famous sightseeing spots, such as Aonodomon Tunnel (青の洞門, Aonodomon), Fururakan (古羅漢, Fururakan), and Kyoshuho Cliff (競秀峰, Kyoshuho), all come together to make up Nakatsu, Oita’s Hon-Yabakei. In this video, drone recordings and time-lapses are used to introduce Oita’s Hon-Yabakei. The video is chock-full of impressive aerial views. Information About Hon-Yabakei, Oita’s Foremost Sightseeing Location Photo:Aonodomon Tunnel Shown at 0:06 in the video, as the camera moves along the Yamakuni River (山国川, Yamakuni-gawa), what comes into view on the right-hand side is the Aonodomon Tunnel, which is especially popular in the fall. The Aonodomon Tunnel is one of Hon-Yabakei's representative sightseeing spots. It was constructed during the Edo period (1603 – 1868) to enable monks to safely cross the treacherous cliffs along the river. Though dug by hand by stonemasons using only chisels and hammers, the tunnel was completed in a mere 30 years. After completion, tolls were collected for passage, making this tunnel Japan’s very first toll road. Next is Yabakei Bridge (耶馬渓橋, Yabakei-bashi), characterized by its 8 arches. This bridge is also known as the Holland Bridge (オランダ橋, Oranda-bashi), and is one of the "Top 100 Famous Bridges in Japan." The Yabakei Bridge is also Japan’s longest stone-masonry bridge. This is introduced at 0:23 in the video. Hon-Yabakei, Oita’s Popular Sightseeing Spot: Fururakan Photo:Rakan-ji Temple At the top of the mountain lies the Fururakan View (古羅漢の景, Fururakan no kei). After viewing the Rakan statues, you can pass through Tenjin Bridge (天人橋, Tenjin-bashi) and the stone mountain gate of Fururakan. Tenjin Bridge is the main entrance to Rakan-ji Temple (羅漢寺, Rakan-ji), a mysterious area where man and nature coexist. Here, you can worship with peace of mind. From 0:35 in the video, you can see the Fururakan towering over the mountains and expanse of nature. Next is the Running Dog View (犬走りの景, Inu-hashiri no Kei), a low-water crossing named for its river stones which are shaped like dogs. On bicycle, you can proceed to the entrance of the Kyoshuho Cliff Exploration Path (競秀峰探勝道, Kyoshuho tansho-do). Go through the mountain path full of greenery and proceed to an area where ancient statues of Buddha and other deities remain. Then, travel down the chain to reach the steep cliff "The Rock of Jin" (陣の岩, Jin no iwa). The Rock of Jin at Kyoshuho Cliff offers a 360-degree panoramic view that'll definitely look great on Instagram. This is a popular spot not only for people in Japan, but also people from overseas as well as mountain climbers. The Kyoshudo Cliff Exploration Path also has a beginner’s course that takes only about 70 minutes. It's a rock exploration course where you can experience Mother Nature. Summary of Hon-Yabakei, Oita Photo:Kyoshuho Cliff Hon-Yabakei is located in Nakatsu, Oita in the Kyushu region of Japan. It's 1.5 hours from Fukuoka Airport by limited express train (特急列車, Tokkyu-ressha), and 45 minutes away from Oita Station, similarly by limited express train. As seen in the video, this is an incredibly scenic area full of mysterious mountains. However, as it is not yet particularly well-known in Japan, it can be said to be a hidden sightseeing area. The sight of autumn leaves clinging to the steep cliffs is especially popular, with many tourists visiting in the fall. Furthermore, in recent years, Nemophila flowers (ネモフィラ, Nemofira) have been blooming in the fields in front of the Kyoshuho Cliff (Aonodomon Tunnel). The Nemophila Festival, to celebrate these refreshing blue flowers, is held from mid-April to Golden Week, and it has become a new sightseeing attraction. You can feel the majesty and beauty of this scenic area in the video. We hope that were were able to convey the charm of Hon-Yabakei through this article and video. Obama Onsen This is an official promotional video of the spa town “Sea, Sunset, and Steam,” produced by the Obama Onsen Tourist Association (Obama means “little beach” in Japanese, and it has no connection to the 44th US president). Obama Onsen is a hot spring resort in Unzen city, Nagasaki Prefecture. Obama possesses many of the “No.1 in Japan” titles when it comes to the onsen's features. But that's not all that makes Obama a popular onsen resort. Fresh foods grown in the rich soil or gathered from the sea, the warm climate year round, the beautiful scenery of the surrounding area.. It has a lot of things to see. If you're traveling to Kyushu we definitely recommend stopping by here. There are a lot of day-visit outdoor onsen in the town that can be casually enjoyed. Having a foot bath while enjoying an amazing view of Mt. Unzen is a great way to relax. Despite the video being less than 2 minutes long, the charms of Obama, including its natural and cultural beauty, the hot springs, and more, are all displayed for your viewing pleasure. You'll be able to see what Unzen city is all about before you make a visit. The Springs of Obama Onsen The quality of the Obama hot springs is sodium chloride. It has the hottest and most active springs in Japan, with some springs getting as hot as 105 degrees. The abundant geothermal energy, combined with the warm climate, makes agriculture one of the main industries in this area. The minerals contained in the Obama hot springs are said to be good for nerve and muscular pains, rheumatism, poor circulation, cuts, hemorrhoids, and skin disease. The video shows the source spring at 0:54. Sightseeing Around Obama Onsen Photo:Obama Onsen foot bath Found at the base of Mt. Unzen, Obama Onsen features about 25 onsen ryokan hotels lined up on the seafront overlooking the Tachibana Bay. There are also 3 public bathhouses where you can enjoy Obama’s famous sunset views while bathing. Obama Marine Park offers a variety of onsen facilities, and the 105m long foot bath, Hot Foot 105, is its main attraction and is said to be the longest foot bath in all of Japan. The view of Shimabara Bay is incredible, and makes for a great Instagram photo. Hot Foot 105, which appears in the video from 0:29, is certainly a must-go tourist location. Obama is also home to cooler carbonated springs. The water can be freely collected at various water collection points in the town and is used by the people in their everyday lives. In addition, the town is also known for its cherry blossoms. Mt. Token is covered in blooming cherry blossoms in March, and has been repeatedly shown on TV programs and featured in magazines. Obama’s cherry blossom landscape is shown in the video from around 1:04. Here you can catch a glimpse of the beauty of spring in Japan. In June, Obama Onsen is adorned with the purple flowers of Jacaranda. Obama Onsen Jacaranda Festa, as well as other events, are held on Jacaranda Street to celebrate the flowers. The Local Specialty of Obama Onsen Photo:Champon A must-try specialty of Obama Onsen is definitely “Obama Champon,” a dish made of noodles, seafood, and vegetables. There are around 20 competing Champon restaurants in the area, and the dish is also served at any type of restaurant or Izakaya (A type of Japanese bar). A special feature of Obama Champon is the light soup containing plenty of sea food. The Champon Map available at hotels, the train station and the tourist office, will help you find these Champon restaurants. The History of Obama Onsen Obama Onsen was first recorded in 713, in the topographic record Hizen Fudoki (Hizen is a former name of the province containing the area), and has been known as a hot-spring health resort since around 1900. It was designated as a National Recreation Onsen in 1962 (An onsen must meet the required conditions to be classified as such). Obama Town Museum of Historical Materials is a good place to learn about the town’s history. Summary of Obama Onsen Photo:Obama Onsen Since the Obama railway line was abolished due to the integration of transport infrastructure, access to Obama Onsen has become slightly inconvenient. This made it a precious hidden gem, with the abandoned railroad track still remaining in the area. There are buses running to Obama Onsen from JR Isahaya Station, and it takes about 55 minutes to get there. We hope that the video and this article have helped you discover the beauty of Obama Onsen. Obama Onsen will treat you well with beautiful natural environment, warm climate, delicious cuisine, and of course, its relaxing hot springs. 【Official Website】Unzen city http://translate.google.co.jp/translate?hl=ja&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http://www.city.unzen.nagasaki.jp/ -

Jigoku Meguri, Located in Beppu Onsen, Oita Prefecture This is an introductory video of Beppu Onsen's Jigoku Meguri, produced by "Japan Explorers." Hot springs are a must when traveling in Japan. Oita prefecture’s Beppu City is popular among tourists from both Japan and overseas as one of the most famous hot spring places. Let’s check out the video about Jigoku Meguri, where you can fully enjoy the greatness of Kyushu's Beppu Onsen. This video introduces the hot springs that are literally called "Hell." Does it really look like hell though? Find out for yourself! What Is Jigoku Meguri? Photo:Oniishibozu hot springs Beppu Onsen's Jigoku Meguri is a sightseeing course where you can visit places called “Hells,” among Oita, Beppu's hot springs. There are 7 hot springs referred to as "Hells": Sea Hell (about 98℃), Oniishi Bozu Hell (about 99℃), Kamado Hell (about 90℃), Oniyama Hell (about 99.1℃), White Pond Hell (about 95℃), Blood Pond Hell (about 78℃), and Tornado Hell (about 105℃). The qualities of each "hell" is different. For example, the Sea Hell contains iron sulfate, creating a bluish color. The blue Sea Hell is introduced in the video at 0:18. The water lily that younger elementary school children can stand on is quite famous. Beyond the gate of Hell lays Blood Pond Hell. This spring contains magnesium oxide turning the mud within it red. The red Blood Pond Hell is introduced in the video at 1:03, and you can see how creepy it is in the video. People used to cook rice using the steam from “Kamado Hell.” Here there are many hot springs spanning several blocks (1 chome- 6 chome). You can eat hot spring eggs cooked using the steam from these springs. The History of Oita Prefecture’s Jigoku Meguri in Beppu City The history of Beppu city’s Jigoku Meguri goes back quite far. There are records that shows these hot springs were called “hells” even during the Edo Period (1603-1868). From the Meiji Period, many villas developed near Beppu Onsen. By this time, the natural hot spring "hells," with their boiling water, had become popular among hot spring visitors, not for bathing, but for sightseeing purposes. The Christian Town on the Amakusa Islands of Kyushu This video, titled "'Kyushu Heritages for Tomorrow' Kumamoto 'Amakusa Islands'" ([明日の遺産 九州] 熊本「天草諸島」), was released by "Nippon Archives." It introduces the charm and traditional culture of the Amakusa Islands in Kyushu. The Amakusa Islands are a group of 120 islands that extends across Kumamoto and Kagoshima prefectures in western Kyushu. This area was where the historic Amakusa-Shimabara Rebellion, said to be Japan's largest rebellion, took place approximately 400 years ago. In 2018, "Hidden Christian Sites in Nagasaki and the Amakusa Region" was registered as a World Heritage Site and became widely talked about. The Deep History of Christianity on Kyushu's Amakusa Islands Photo:Sakitsu Church After Francis Xavier arrived in Hirado, Nagasaki in 1549 and preached Christianity, the western area of Kyushu has become a region home to many Christians. A Jesuit college was also built in Amakusa to train missionaries, and as can be seen from 3:01 in the video, there is a statue of Mary on the scenic seaside, which has become a popular symbol of faith. There were many martyrs in the Shimabara Rebellion led by Amakusa Shiro, and the faith of their ancestors lives on in the region today. When you go sightseeing in the Amakusa Islands, be sure to stop by Sakitsu Church, Oe Church, and the Amakusa Christian Museum, where you can learn about the history of the Amakusa area, remember the scenes of the past, and offer prayers.
