This tradition has been handed down for centuries, and kagura in this lineage spread through Ono, Naoiri, the southern part of the prefecture, and as far as the Aso region. In 2007 it was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the national government. We launched the Mount Ontake-style Kagura Tournament in 1988 to reexamine this local culture of kagura born from Kiyokawa’s landscape and to promote regional revitalization through kagura. The tournament gathers traditional cultures from many areas into one event.
