Yesterday, 12/25 (Wednesday), it was confirmed that the reference tree of "Atami Sakura" on the Itokawa Promenade has bloomed!
Restrooms available some trees have been blooming since mid-December, but the reference trees have finally blossomed.
This "Atami Sakura" is a type of cold cherry blossom native to India that blooms in early January ~ February every year, and was brought to Atami by Italians around 1871 (Meiji 4) along with lemon and date palms, and was named "Atami Sakura" in the "Full of Flowers Campaign" held in Showa 40. 1977 (Showa 52) designated as a Atami City tree on April 10 (the 40th anniversary of the city's incorporation).
On the same branch, flower buds that bloom early and flower buds that bloom later can be arranged in two stages, so you can enjoy flowers for more than a month every year.
At the beginning of the year, the Cherry Blossom Festival opens along with the Ume Plum Festival!
Light up, cherry blossom tea and tea service, street performances, sword dances, band performances, etc. will be held during the Implementation, so please come and see the cherry blossoms.
