Located in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture, Kakunodate Bukeyashiki Street is a tourist attraction where splendid weeping cherry blossoms bloom in the spring season.
Kakunodate Bukeyashiki Street is also known as "Michinoku's Little Kyoto", and many tourists from Japan and abroad visit every year during the cherry blossom season to enjoy the contrast between the glossy weeping cherry blossoms and the majestic samurai residence.
Kakunodate's history as a famous place for cherry blossoms began when the lord of the Satake clan, who loved cherry blossoms, planted weeping cherry trees brought from Kyoto in the garden of his mansion.
Today, about 400 cherry blossom trees are lined up from Kakunodate Bukeyashiki Street to the Hinokiuchi River embankment, which flows behind the street, and it has been selected as a 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan.
