Halloween in Tokyo From the Eyes of a Foreigner! An Exciting Day of Cosplay in Shibuya!
Festivals & Events Modern Culture- 293 plays
- YouTube
Shibuya Gone Wild! Tokyo's Nightscape in a Masquerade of Colors and Costumes! Halloween has become one of October's main features in Japan, too, and in Tokyo, both Shibuya and Roppongi host a variety of Halloween events. TOKYObrah's video “HALLOWEEN IN TOKYO, JAPAN! Tokyo Halloween! Shibuya Party 4K(HALLOWEEN IN TOKYO, JAPAN! 東京ハロウィン! 渋谷パーティ 4K)” presents Shibuya’s Halloween celebrations from the eyes of a foreigner. Just watching the participants wearing their costumes is indeed a lot of fun! The Heart of Tokyo’s Halloween Is in Shibuya Photo:Halloween masquerade A crowd of dressed-up people piles up in front of the JR Shibuya train station, moving towards Shibuya Crossing. Even the Japanese, known for being shy, become open and friendly on Halloween, and people in the video often wave at the cameraman with a smile. Join Tokyo’s Halloween Parade! Source :YouTube screenshot When asked to pose for the video, many girls in their different costumes gave their best shot at it in spite of their shyness. The cameramen, too, who was dressed as Lionel Messi, managed to gather a crowd of people all dressed the same as him, with minimal effort. Wearing a costume makes it easier to open up with strangers, which is what makes Halloween so special. Other Foreigners Joined the Halloween Party, Too! Many foreigners gather in the city for Halloween, and some of them show up dressed as famous characters. The celebrations have been getting bigger and bigger every year, and this makes it easier for people from abroad to participate. Everybody chants with a smile “Happy Halloween!” and “Trick or Treat!” It’s Not Just a Halloween Costume Party! Source :YouTube screenshot Even among the more casual costumes there are some that really catch the eye, like the cute bunny girls or the TV characters from local comedy shows. The Jack Sparrow costume at 5:40 and 6:45 are really spectacular, and deserve a special mention. High quality costumes are one of the main attractions of Shibuya's Halloween, and often get featured in the news. Halloween’s Origins: The Harvest Festival The Jack-o'-lantern, Halloween’s omnipresent carved pumpkin, is a symbol everyone knows. Halloween was originally a religious celebration aimed at getting rid of the evil spirits during the harvest season, but as the years went by it shifted towards a more folkloristic event where kids dressed up in scary costumes and were rewarded with treats. In Japan, trick-or-treating was soon abandoned in favor of a costume party event for young people. Tokyo’s Halloween: Summary In Tokyo, lots of young people cosplay during the last weekend of October. As you can see from the video many people dressed as famous Japanese anime characters, while others chose more old-fashioned costumes, like witches and zombies. This is an event that anyone can enjoy, regardless of age or nationality. Even though the video conveys the excitement of Shibuya’s Halloween, it's even better to experience it in person. If you’re in Tokyo in October, make sure you don't miss it! -

It offers a wide variety of sightseeing spots, experiences, and events that allow you to enjoy the powerful panoramic view. This article provides recommendations for places to see and things to do in the Higashimatsushima area of Miyagi Prefecture, as well as travel tips. We're sure you'll find something in Higashimatsushima that catches your eye! About Higashimatsushima Photo:Matsushima Higashimatsushima city is located to the north east of Sendai city in Miyagi Prefecture, between Matsushima city and Ishinomaki city. It is relatively warm for the Tohoku region, and the population is 39,950 (as of May, 2019). Where to Find the Beautiful Sunsets Shown in the Video Photo:Sagakei Otomegahama in Okumatsushima Higashimatsushima is home to one of Japan's famous "4 Amazing Views," where you can enjoy the spectacular view of the islands in Matsushima Bay. That is, "Otakamori" in Miyato island (宮戸島, Miyatojima), which is introduced at 0:45 in the video. It's an amazing sight, and because the islands are viewed from the mountain peak people say it resembles a miniature garden. The ever-changing evening view from the "Otakamori" is wonderful, and on a clear day, you can enjoy a panoramic view that will make you forget about time. Next, at 1:09 in the video, we're shown that you can take a fishing boat or a sightseeing boat to visit the small islands nearby. Saga Valley (嵯峨渓, Sagakei) is one of the three major valleys in Japan, along with Yaba Valley (耶馬渓, Yabakei) in Oita Prefecture and Geibi Valley (猊鼻渓, Geibikei) in Iwate Prefecture. There are several small islands such as Ashika island (アシカ島, Ashikajima), Megane cape (メガネ崎, Meganezaki), Misago island (みさご島, Misagojima), and Meoto island (夫婦島, Meotojima), which were created by the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean over a long period of time, and Byoubu rock (屏風岩, Byoubuiwa), which is a dynamic rock formation eroded by rough waves, wind, and rain. Enjoy the Cuisine of Higashimatsushima, Miyagi Prefecture Photo:Fresh oyster dishes There are seven fishing ports in Higashimatsushima city, so there's no shortage of quality seafood. Particularly well known is the nori (seaweed), which has been presented to the imperial family many times, and the oysters, which grow large and rich in flavor in just a year thanks to the abundance of food available. Nori is processed into a variety of products such as dried seaweed, grilled seaweed, seasoned seaweed, Udon noodles, dressings, and more. Oysters are shipped from Higashimatsushima to other fisheries across Japan as seed oysters. Therefore, it is called the hometown of oysters. There are many places where oysters are processed and seed oysters are grown. They are shown from 1:43 in the video. After sightseeing, enjoy fresh seafood and delicious gourmet dishes such as "Higashimatsushima Nori Udon," which is a type of udon noodles with a seaweed flavor. Enjoy the Sights and Experiences Unique to Higashimatsushima, Miyagi Prefecture! Photo:Blue Impulse There are about 70 shell-mounds along the coast of the rich Matsushima sea. Among them, “Satohama shell mound”(里浜貝塚, Satohamakaizuka) in Miyatojima in Higashimatsushima city is one of the biggest in Japan. “The Historical Museum of the Jomon Village Okumatsushima” displays excavated articles from “Satohamakaizuka”. We recommend that you try your hand at making a fire or other Jomon experiences when you visit. You can see this at 2:56 in the video. You can also experience popular activities utilizing the rich nature of Higashimatsushima. Board a fishing boat, try your hand at cage fishing or sea kayaking and enjoy the natural beauty of Higashimatsushima's marine activities. Higashi Matsushima is also home to the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force's Matsushima Base, which is home to Blue Impulse, the only squadron of the Air Self-Defense Force whose mission is to fly exhibitions. Japan's San'in Region- Tottori Sand Dunes Photo:Camel in the tottori sand dunes The Tottori Sand Dunes in Tottori Prefecture, the largest in Japan, are a popular tourist attraction in the San'in Region, and are the only sand dunes in Japan designated as a natural monument. Japan’s amazing desert-like Tottori Sand Dunes has a 90-meter difference in elevation, and visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the Sea of Japan from atop them, as well as the wind-wrought pattern, known as Fumon, on the surface of sand. There's also a beautiful sunset at the Tottori Dunes. You can see the Tottori Sand Dunes from 0:06 in the video. It's the only place in Japan where you'll find sand in every direction. Due to their geological heritage, the Oki Islands have been designated a UNESCO Global Geopark. When you set foot in Oki, you'll encounter a deep forest, home to Chichi-sugi, a mysterious 800-year old Japanese cedar tree, the coasts of Shirashima, and Jodogaura. The Oki Islands appear at 0:21 in the video. Next is Tachikuekyo, a narrow gorge with a beautiful suspension bridge and spires of uniquely-shaped rocks rising high into the air. It's a great place to visit because of its five hundred Arhat statues and Reikoji temple. Recommended Locations in Tottori- Uradome Coast & Mt. Daisen The next spot introduced in the video is “Uradome coast” in Tottori. A beautiful ria coastline surrounded by the clear, rough waters of the Sea of Japan. Mt. Daisen shown in the video from 1:21, is the highest mountain in Japan's Chugoku Region. It's shape changes vastly depending on which side of the mountain you are standing on, and also changes its color depending on the season. The beautifully autumn foliage is a sight to behold. The view of Sakasa Daisen, a view of Mt. Daisen together with the upside down Mt. Daisen reflecting off the water's surface, is also a popular tourist attraction. Nariishi Beach in Kotoura has stones that have been rounded off by the rough waves, and that rattle as the waves roll in. The beach is shown at 1:34 in the video. Food, Culture, and Tradition in Japan's San'in Region Photo:Matsuba crab in Tottori prefecture At Tottori’s Sakaiminato port, one of the largest landings of queen crabs in Japan, queen crabs start being caught while it's still dark. You can eat fresh seafood in the fish market as shown in the video at1:46. Sakaiminato is also known as the home of Mizuki Shigeru, creator of the famous cartoon series "Gegege no Kitaro." Mizuki Shigeru Road, a street dedicated to all the yokai characters that appear in his stories, attracts many visitors as well. If you're stopping by the area, don't forget to try Izumo Soba. It's to die for! Iwami Kagura, a Japanese heritage that has been handed down in Shimane Prefecture since ancient times, is a fantastic representation of the world of mythology. It has events all year round as well so be sure to check it out. This can be seen at 1:52 in the video. It's a great way to familiarize yourself with traditional Japanese culture. In the Izumo region of Tottori Prefecture, there's a history of Tatara iron manufacturing. The Okuizumo Tatara Sword Museum is a great place to visit to learn about old iron making technology. You can also see a sword forging demonstration as well. The Nakai Pottery of Inshu, Tottori Prefecture, another traditional handicraft, is introduced at 2:28 in the video. Historic Buildings & Gardens in the San'in Region Photo:Matsue Castle The next spot shown in the video is Miho Shrine in Shimane. This solemn shrine is dedicated to Ebisu (the Japanese god of fishermen). The beautiful Matsue Castle, also known as Chidori Castle, is one of the few remaining castles from the Edo period in Japan, and is known as a spot where you can see the entire city of Matsue from the castle tower. The castle can be seen at 2:48 in the video. It's a must-visit destination for history lovers. Shimane also features one of the most ancient and important Shinto shrines, "Izumo Taisha." Its shimenawa (a rope used to cordon off consecrated areas) triumphs as the largest in Japan. It's believed that Izumo Shrine enshrines a matchmaking deity, and is a famous power spot. At the Adachi Museum of Art, you can enjoy Japanese paintings and ceramic works by masters from modern to contemporary times. The 50,000-square-meter Japanese garden is so beautiful that it was ranked number one on the list of best Japanese gardens. It consists of 6 beautiful gardens, such as the "White Gravel and Pine Garden," the "Moss Garden," and more. In Yonago, Tottori, dozens of jizo statues (statues of Buddhist deities) are lined up along the Kamogawa riverside. One of the main events at the Kamogawa Festival in August is the "Jizo walk," where participants walk across the city hunting for jizo statues. Taikodani Inari Shrine in Tsuwano, Shimane is one of the most important Inari Shrines in Japan, and features an approach lined with closely placed torii gates, forming a red, tunnel-like entrance. We strongly recommend visiting here if you're traveling to the San'in region. By the way, the name "San'in" comes from the name of the road "San'indo," a road in the San'in region from when the province was divided into seven administrative divisions. Summary of Japan's San-In Region The San'in region is full of nature, history, and has plenty of sights to see. Hopefully we've got you interested in this hidden gem.
