The monument of Gyo-bun
The haiku, composed by the poet Sankyutei Gyo-bun, who follows in the footsteps of Matsuo Bashō, is inscribed on the front of the monument. This haiku was written during his journey when he passed through Kamagaya Post Town.
Additionally, this monument was erected at the junction of Kioroshi Kaidō Road and Gendō Kaza-machi, serving as a waymarker. On the right side of the monument, it is inscribed "Right Kioroshi Road," and on the left side, "Left Nakakido Road." Kioroshi Kaidō Road was bustling with people traveling for worship from Edo to Kashima and to Chōshi, and many literary figures, including Matsuo Bashō and Watanabe Kazan, frequented Kamagaya Post Town.
