The Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival: Video Introduction This video, titled "The Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival" (竜神峡鯉のぼりまつり), was uploaded by "Suzuki Hideto." Ryujin Gorge is a beautiful V-shaped gorge located in Hitachiota, Ibaraki, in Japan's Kanto region. The gorge is even more crowded during the Golden Week holiday season, when it's dazzling with fresh greenery. Around 1,000 koinobori (carp streamers) can be seen swimming through the sky around the Ryujin Gorge, with the Ryujin Suspension Bridge at the heart of the action. This spectacular sight has become popular among many tourists for its picturesque views. The video shows the spectacular sight of the Ryujin Gorge and koinobori swimming in the sky via aerial views, so be sure to check it out as you read along. Where Ryujin Suspension Bridge Is Located + Height & Other Information About the Bridge Photo:Mori no Kane, Ryujin Suspension Bridge Ryujin Gorge is located in Okukuji Prefectural Nature Park in Hitachiota, Ibaraki. Ryujin Suspension Bridge was built over the Ryujin Dam, which was constructed to dam the Ryujin River that flows through Ryujin Gorge. The bridge is 375 meters long, making it one of the longest pedestrian-only bridges in Japan. Visitors can also enjoy the thrilling view from the observation windows installed at three locations on the bridge, which are up to 100 meters high. On the other side of the Ryujin Suspension Bridge is the symbolic "Mori no Kane" (木精の鐘, lit. 'Bell of the Tree Spirits') with three types of bells: love, hope, and happiness. The bell of love is especially popular among couples, as it requires two people to press a button together. If they ring the bell together, it's said that their wishes may come true. The main attraction of the Ryujin Suspension Bridge is the breathtaking natural scenery of the mountains and valleys. The beautiful sound of the bells echoing through Ryujin Gorge is one of the highlights of the bridge. The History of the Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival Photo:Koinobori at Ryujin Suspension Bridge, Hitachiota, Ibaraki The Ryujin Gorge is especially busy during the "Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival" held from late April to mid-May. Approximately 1,000 koinobori are on display around the Ryujin Suspension Bridge, and visitors can see them swimming through the sky over the entire Ryujin Gorge area. The Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival began in 1989. When the construction of the Ryujin Suspension Bridge began, wire ropes were stretched over the right and left banks of the Ryujin Dam, and koinobori were attached to them. Today, it has become a major event that attracts more than 30,000 tourists, and the parking lot with 265 parking spaces is packed even before 8:30 am. Although it's convenient to come by car, it may be better to use public transportation, such as buses or trains. Due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the festival was cancelled for two consecutive years, but in 2022, it was held from April 29 to May 15, followed by 2023, from April 29 to May 14. The festival is usually held during Golden Week each year. For more information on the 2024 Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival, please check the official website or the official Instagram of the Ryujin Suspension Bridge. During the festival, a photo contest will be held in addition to a market of wild vegetables and other products. In addition, on Children's Day, children of junior high school age and under will be admitted free of charge, whereas normally there is a crossing fee of 320 yen for adults and 210 yen for children. In addition to the "Carp Streamer Festival," Ryujin Gorge holds seasonal events such as the "Wind Bell Festival" from early to mid-August, where 1,000 wind bells are displayed; the "Autumn Leaves Festival" from early to late November, which includes a stamp rally and a product exhibition to enjoy autumn tastes; and the "Hitachi-Ota Soba Festival" in February, where visitors can enjoy Hitachi-Aki soba noodles. In February, the "Hitachiota Soba Festival" is held, where visitors can enjoy Hitachiota's autumn soba noodles. Bungee Jumping, Canoeing, & Other Exciting Outdoor Activities at Ryujin Gorge! Photo:Bungee jumping at Ryujin Gorge Ryujin Gorge, widely known for its koinobori festival, is also a popular place for outdoor recreation. The bungee jump from the Ryujin Suspension Bridge is known as the highest bungee jump in Japan. There are only a few bungees in the world that can be jumped from a height of 100 meters, and more than 10,000 jumpers visit the bridge every year to experience the thrill of the jump. Canoeing tours are a great way to enjoy the beauty of nature reflected on the nearby lake while looking up at the Ryujin Suspension Bridge. There are lectures in advance so that canoe and kayak beginners and families can also enjoy the tour and experience the beautiful nature of the Ryujin Gorge while canoeing. The Ryujin Café, located right next to the reception desk of the Ryujin Suspension Bridge, is a recommended spot for grabbing a bite to eat. On the terrace seats, you can enjoy a "Natto Waffle" and "Ryujin Dam Curry" while appreciating the great nature of the Ryujin Gorge and the Ryujin Suspension Bridge. Consider stopping here for lunch or just to take a break. Enjoy a Sea of Clouds Over Ryujin Gorge at the Akaiwa Observatory or Discover the Scenic Views of the Area While Hiking! Photo:Autumn leaves at Ryujin Gorge, Hitachiota, Ibaraki In the early morning on a cold day, a sea of clouds can be seen from the Ryujin Suspension Bridge over Lake Ryujin, a dammed lake in the Ryujin Gorge. From the Akaiwa Observatory, you can see the entire Ryujin Gorge area, including the Ryujin Suspension Bridge. The Akaiwa Observatory is located on top of a mountain roughly 1 km away from the second parking lot of Ryujin Gorge. The scenic views from the observatory are unforgettable. During autumn, you can see the Ryujin Gorge and the Ryujin Suspension Bridge floating in a sea of clouds with the mountains dyed beautiful shades of orange and red in the background. The photogenic views are sure to look good on Instagram, so be sure to bring a camera. There's also an entrance to a hiking course from Parking Lot 2, so keep this in mind if you're looking to take a walk to feel the great outdoors in spring or autumn. What are Koinobori? Koinobori (鯉のぼり), meaning "carp streamer," are carp-shaped windsocks that date back to Edo-Period Japan (1603 AD -1868 AD). In modern Japan, they are flown to celebrate Children's Day, a holiday during Japan's Golden Week that celebrates the healthy growth of children. The reason for the carp is due to an ancient Chinese legend that tells of a carp that climbed the rapids of the Yellow River and became a dragon. This is said to symbolize the growth of children. Koinobori are generally painted in three colors: Black Black represents water, something that all living things need. Blue Blue represents spring, the season of life, and wood. Red Red represents summer and fire. Summer is the season with the most sunlight, and this symbolizes the nurturing of life. Two other common colors are yellow and white. All of these colors also represent the five elements in Japanese Buddhist thought. Additionally, koinobori are hung above houses in Japan with children, with black at the top, symbolizing the father, followed by red, symbolizing the mother, and then blue, etc., which symbolize the children. Summary of the Ryujin Gorge The 1,000 koinobori swimming in the sky of Ryujin Gorge is a spectacular sight. Watching the video, it's easy to understand why so many tourists come to the area for the koinobori festival. In addition, the Ryujin Gorge can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, including outdoor recreation and hiking. Near the Ryujin Suspension Bridge is Fukuroda Onsen Omoide Roman-kan, a hot spring inn. Staying at a hotel or ryokan and relaxing at the hot springs is another great way to have an enjoyable trip. The Koinobori Festival is held at the spectacular Ryujin Gorge. We encourage you to visit with your family during Japan's Golden Week holiday and make some unforgettable memories! 【Trip Advisor】Ryujin Gorge -

A Snowy Amanohashidate View Land: Video Introduction This video, titled "A Snowy Amanohashidate Viewland" (天橋立ビューランド 雪景色) was uploaded by "Amanohashidate Viewland" (天橋立ビューランド). This video captures the peaceful and serene atmosphere of Amanohashidate, as if viewed from the perspective of a flying bird. The clear, crisp winter air adds to the beauty of the scenery. Amanohashidate is a charming destination in every season, and this video showcases the special allure of winter. We hope you enjoy it. Amanohashidate One of the Three Views of Japan, and Hiryukan Photo:Mata-nozoki Amanohashidate, located in Miyazu, Kyoto, in the Kanto region of Japan, is known as one of the Japan's "Three Views of Japan," along with Matsushima (Miyagi Prefecture) and Miyajima (Hiroshima Prefecture). Amanohashidate is a sandbar created by the accumulation of sand on a spit, and it's approximately 3.6km long and 20-170m wide. It’s covered with a whopping 8,000 pine trees, which thrive due to the repeated ebb and flow of the tides. The natural beauty of Amanohashidate is truly breathtaking and is often compared to works of art. Although there are many sandbars in Japan, none are as impressive as Amanohashidate. [Video] 0:45 - Amanohashidate in Winter as Seen From the Sky (The Aso Inland Sea and Miyazu Bay) Amanohashidate became popular for its unique viewing method. Called "Mata-nozoki," if you bend over and look back at the land bridge between your legs at Amanohashidate Viewland it's as though the sky and sea are flipped. The sandbar is said to resemble a dragon dancing in the sky, hence its nickname "Hiryu-kan" (飛龍観, lit "View of the Flying Dragon"). Amanohashidate Viewland is an amusement park located at the top of Mt. Monju, with a viewing platform that allows visitors to see Amanohashidate from the South. The park has various attractions such as a Ferris Wheel and a cycle monorail, and is popular with people of all ages. It's also a popular spot for tourists to take Instagram photos. Amanohashidate Winter Sightseeing Spots Photo:Hiryukan at Amanohashidate, Kyoto One of the top winter attractions at Amanohashidate is "Gensetsu no Hiryu-kan." [Video] 0:52 - Aerial Footage of Gensetsu no Hiryu-kan The upside-down viewing at Amanohashidate, which appears as if the sky and earth have reversed and a dragon is rising to the heavens, is referred to as Hiryu-kan. During the winter when it snows, this phenomenon is called "Gensetsu no Hiryu-kan" (幻雪の飛龍観, lit. Magical Snow View of the Flying Dragon). When Amanohashidate is covered in snow, Hiryu-kan takes on an even more fantastical appearance, resembling a white dragon. However, this breathtaking view can only be seen when it's snowing as even the sun's rays melt the snow. One winter tourist attraction in the Amanohashidate area is the Kyoto Tango Railway. "Ke-arashi," another popular winter phenomenon, is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the air near the water's surface rapidly cools during the cold early morning. Therefore, if the conditions are not perfect, it cannot be seen. However, the sight of mist rising up from the surface of the water from the Kyoto Tango Railway is breathtaking. This line crosses the bridge over the Yura River, which is approximately 550m wide. It's definitely worth waking up early to see it, so if you visit Miyazu definitely consider setting your alarm, as it's also great for taking Instagram photos. Things to Keep in Mind When Traveling to Amanohashidate in Winter To access Amanohashidate by public transportation, you can take the Sanyo Main Line from Osaka Station and arrive in about 2-3 hours. On the other hand, if you're driving to Amanohashidate in the winter, it's necessary to use winter tires even if it is not snowing at the time of your departure. One thing to be particularly careful of when driving in the winter is icy road conditions. Even if the surface melts and becomes wet as the temperature and sun rise, there can still be ice underneath, which can cause you to lose control of your vehicle. When driving in low temperatures and when snow is falling during the winter months, drivers should take extra precautions, such as keeping a safe distance from other vehicles. It may also be a good idea to carry tire chains and shovels in the case of an emergency. When Is the Best Season to Visit Amanohashidate? Photo:Spring at Amanohashidate Amanohashidate has different attractions in each of Japan's 4 seasons. ・Spring Cherry blossoms are a hallmark of Japanese spring, and Amanohashidate is no exception. From Amanohashidate Viewland on top of Mt. Monju (130 meters high), the unique views of Hiryu-kan, combined with cherry blossoms, the sea, and pine forests, create a view that is beyond words. ・Summer Looking up at the beautiful Amanohashidate while enjoying a seaside swim is the ultimate summer activity. Tango Yura Beach (丹後由良海水浴場, Tango Yura Kaisui Yokujo) at Amanohashidate is a popular beach for families. The water is also clean, and after enjoying the calm waves, you can relax in the shade of the pine trees. On the way back from the beach, it's also worth visiting the hot spring "Chie no Yu" in Amanohashidate. ・Autumn The autumn leaves around Amanohashidate start to change color in late October, and the best time to view them is from late November to early December. It's expected to be quite crowded when the autumn leaves are in season. One recommended activity is "Park & Cruise" in Miyazu Bay. It's a convenient sightseeing boat that is a 3-minute walk from the Roadside Station's multi-level car parking lot to Miyazu Pier. The sightseeing boat is convenient for those arriving by car and goes via Amanohashidate to Ichinomiya, where Kasamatsu Park (overlooking Amanohashidate) is located. The boat is available during the autumn foliage season and can also be used to avoid the crowds. ・Winter As previously mentioned, Amanohashidate becomes even more charming during winter. You can enjoy the ethereal snowy scenery and fantastic views. Amanohashidate and the surrounding spots and activities have different charms in spring, summer, fall, and winter. Discover your favorite season by visiting Amanohashidate for yourself! Summary of Winter Sightseeing at Amanohashidate The scenic Amanohashidate is a popular tourist attraction with many famous temples in the surrounding area. There are regular hotels and hot spring hotels that offer seasonal plans to suit your needs. The region is also known for its delicious food. Visitors are advised to make reservations early for their preferred season to fully enjoy their trip to Amanohashidate in Miyazu, Kyoto. 【TripAdvisor】Amanohashidate -

When to See Autumn Leaves at Shirakoma Pond – Best Season and Photo Spots Photo:Autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture The area surrounding Shirakoma Pond is known as one of Japan's three largest virgin forests, and during autumn, when the leaves change color, the virgin forest, filled with azaleas, birch trees, and maples, changes color to brilliant shades of red and yellow. Every year, the area is crowded with tourists who come to view the autumn foliage. If you're planning to visit Shirakoma Pond, autumn is definitely the best season to come so you can see the beauty of the autumn leaves. In the high elevation areas of Japan's Chubu region, the best time to view the autumn leaves is from late September at the earliest, and from early October on an average year. Since the forecast for autumn leaves at elevations above 2,000m is said to be largely unchanged, the best time to view the autumn foliage at Shirakoma Pond in 2023 is expected to be from late September to mid-October. During autumn, when the leaves are in season, Shirakoma Pond is crowded tourists. If you're looking to take photos, there are two great spots in front of the mountain lodges "Shirakoma-so" (白駒荘) and "Seitai-so" (青苔荘) that overlook the lakeside area. The two lodges, situated on opposite sides of Shirakoma Pond, are well known for their sunrises and sunsets which can be photographed together with the pond in the foreground. Hiking at Shirakoma Pond! Photo:The moss forest around Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture There are several hiking trails around Shirakoma Pond that can be enjoyed even by beginner hikers. We recommend the route from Shirakoma Pond (白駒池) to Takami-ishi (高見石), which has a minimal elevation change and can be easily hiked. The hike takes about 2 hours and departs from the Shirakoma Pond parking lot. The hike proceeds along a trail on which hikers can admire the beautiful mosses growing in the area. Once you reach a fork in the road, head toward Takami-ishi Lodge After hiking up behind Takami-ishi Lodge, you'll arrive at Takami-ishi. From Takami-ishi, you can enjoy a spectacular view of Japan's Northern and Central Alps and Shirakoma Pond. After admiring the view, descend from Takami-ishi toward Shirakoma Pond. Follow the boardwalk circling the mystical Shirakoma Pond before returning to the parking lot to end the hike. Although the trail around Shirakoma Pond is well maintained, it becomes slippery when it rains. When visiting Takami-ishi, a series of rock formations, in particular, extreme care should be taken to avoid injury or accidents. Please be prepared to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes that are easy to move in, and check the weather before you go out. Additionally, because the area around Shirakoma Pond is mountainous, temperatures can vary greatly. Please bring warm clothes to adjust for the temperature changes. After enjoying hiking in the magnificent nature of Nagano, we recommend taking a breather at one of the hot spring resorts in the area. The Shirakoma Pond area is dotted with facilities where you can enjoy hot springs and take in the beautiful scenery. It's a great way to relax after a nice day of hiking. Camping at Shirakoma Pond Photo:The tent campsite at Takami-ishi Lodge, Nagano Prefecture In addition to hiking and viewing the autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, there are also a few locations where you can enjoy camping. Seitai-so Seitai-so, the mountain lodge mentioned earlier, has a tent site located right next to it where you can set up a tent right by the lake. The tent site is available year-round and you can even enjoy a beautiful starry sky with a view of the pond frozen over in the winter. Keep in mind that the tent site is reservation only and all garbage must be taken with you when you leave. Lodge Hours: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm. ※Hours may vary by season. Fee: The tent site is free of charge. General lodging starts at 5,500 yen/person for adults. Takami-ishi Another campsite is the Takami-ishi Tent Site, located beside Takami-ishi Lodge. Unlike the tent site at Seitai-so, Takami-ishi does not accept reservations, and is open to campers on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, the owners of the lodge provide commentary about the stars at night on the terrace, and invite guests to join them to listen. While not located directly next to Shirakoma Pond, it's only about 10 minutes from the pond by car. Lodge Hours: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Fee: Tent site: 600 yen/person. General lodging starts at 5,500 yen/ person. Both of the above facilities also having standard accommodations as well, so if you want to stay the night and enjoy the starry skies and autumn leaves, but don't want to stay in a tent, you can always book a room in the lodges. Parking and Crowding at Shirakoma Pond During the Autumn Foliage Season Photo:Autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture To get to Shirakoma Pond, it's best to use the parking lot on Route 299. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the pond on foot from the parking lot. That being said, because it's a famous spot for viewing the autumn leaves, more than 180,000 people visit Shirakoma Pond during the autumn foliage season, and the parking lot becomes incredibly crowded, especially on weekends. At the same time, many cars are entering and exiting the parking lot, resulting in heavy traffic congestion on the surrounding roads. The most crowded hours at Shirakoma Pond are between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays, and 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekends and holidays. If you visit Shirakoma Pond to see the autumn leaves on a weekday, it may be better to go between 6:00 am and 9:00 am. On weekends and holidays, it might be smoother to go between 6:00 am and 8:00 am. However, in the past, there have been some reports that the parking lots were full as early as 9:00 am, so be sure to check the real-time parking conditions when visiting. For real-time information on congestion around Shirakoma Pond, you'll have the most luck using Twitter. Look up "白駒池" (Shirakoma Pond) in the Twitter search box to check the latest tweets. It's also recommended that you check live cameras installed at the Shirakoma Pond parking lot. Access the official website of the Shirakoma Pond toll parking lot to view the live camera, which is updated every 5 minutes. This is useful for checking the status of the parking lot and the weather in real time. Although it is convenient to drive to Shirakoma Pond during the fall foliage season, you may want to consider using public transportation if you're trying to avoid crowds and traffic jams. Summary of Autumn Leaves at Shirakoma Pond Photo:Autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture Shirakoma Pond, located in Nagano Prefecture and famous for its autumn foliage, is the highest natural lake in Japan at 2,115 meters above sea level. During the fall foliage season, the azaleas and birch trees change color beautifully, creating a picturesque landscape. The Shirakoma Pond area is also famous for its "moss forest," which is home to 485 species of moss. The best time to see the mosses is from mid-June to the end of July, after Japan's rainy season, and visitors can enjoy the moss forest until early November every year. We invite you to experience the mysterious beauty of Shirakoma Pond as expressed in the video. 【TripAdvisor】Shirakoma Pond -

A Guide to Izakaya in Japan: Video Introduction 日本にっぽんの居酒屋いざかやの解説動画かいせつどうが紹介しょうかい This video, titled "IZAKAYA TIPS! 5 minutes 42 seconds|Suntory" (IZAKAYA TIPS!! 5分42秒 サントリー), was uploaded by "Suntory Official Channel" (サントリー公式チャンネル (SUNTORY)). Izakaya in Japan and Japanese Bar Culture Photo:Kanpai at an izakaya(写真しゃしん:居酒屋いざかやで乾杯かんぱい) An izakaya (居酒屋) is a Japanese-style bar that serves alcoholic beverages and food. While bars and pubs are Western-style establishments and serve mainly Western-style alcoholic beverages, izakaya offer a greater variety and quantity of food than bars and pubs. Unlike bars, izakaya are often used for parties/large groups of people. They are also generally less formal than restaurants. [Video] 0:16 - What are Izakaya? Entering and Ordering at Izakaya in Japan 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかや~入店にゅうてんから注文ちゅうもんまで~ Photo:A waitress pouring a beer(写真しゃしん:生ビールなまびーるを注そそぐ女性店員じょせいてんいん) When you enter an izakaya they'll likely greet you with the standard "irasshaimase!" (いらっしゃいませ!), or the shorter version "irasshai!" Both of these mean "Welcome!" and are the typical greeting you'll hear at restaurants and stores across Japan. After being seated at a table, the staff will likely bring oshibori (おしぼり) to your table. Oshibori are wet towels that are used to wipe one's hands before eating. You may see people wiping their faces or tables with oshibori, but keep in mind that this can be considered rude in some cases, so it might be best to avoid doing it. After you've been seated and your oshibori has been brought to the table, the next thing to do is order your first dish. At izakaya in Japan, it's common for everyone to order a simple beer, as they're all the same and can be served relatively quickly. The stock phrase for this is "Toriaezu nama" (とりあえず生) which means "For now, I'll take a draft beer." Having said that, if you don't like beer, you can just order something else. [Video] 1:20 - Ordering Your First Drink at an Izakaya in Japan 【動画どうが】1:20~ 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやで初はじめての飲のみ物ものの注文ちゅうもん After you've ordered you're first drink or dish, you'll be served an otoshi (お通し). Otoshi are small appetizers served at izakaya and often include a variety of vegetables and sometimes meat, or they can be as simple as edamame. These cost several hundred yen as they are served in place of a cover charge, and cannot be refused. Unfortunately, you can't choose what your otoshi is, so if you're a picky eater or have allergies, you may not be able to eat them at all. Ordering at an Izakaya in Japan Photo:A woman calling a server(写真しゃしん:店員てんいんを呼よぶ女性じょせい) After you've received your beer and otoshi, and you're ready to order, you'll need to call the server over to your table. In Japan the server generally won't come to your table to check how the meal is or to ask if you want to order something. Instead, you'll call them over to the table when you want to order something. This can be done by calling out "sumimasen!" (すみません), which means "Excuse me!" in Japanese. As the video mentions, this is never considered rude and is the proper way to order at an izakaya and most restaurants in Japan. [Video] 2:36 - Calling the Server at an Izakaya in Japan 【動画どうが】2:36~ 居酒屋いざかやで店員てんいんさんを呼よぶ様子ようす If you're not a picky eater and are feeling adventurous, you can always ask the server for their recommendation as well. The phrase for this is "Osusume wa?" You don't have to know what they're saying, just give a simple "Okay," and you should have no problems ordering. Another tip to keep in mind when ordering, is to point at the pictures on the menu. This will make it much easier to order. If there aren't any pictures, the Google Translate app's real time translation feature is super useful, so definitely give it a try! [Video] 3:40 - Asking the Staff for a Recommendation 【動画どうが】3:40~ 店員てんいんさんにおすすめを聞きく様子ようす Izakaya Food – Menu Items, Courses, and Prices at Izakaya in Japan 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやでの注文ちゅうもん方法ほうほう Photo:An izakaya party menu(写真しゃしん:居酒屋いざかやの宴会メニューえんかいめにゅー) Japan's izakaya often serve a wide variety of dishes. You can often find small dishes using a variety of vegetables, sashimi platters, and things like karaage (Japanese fried chicken), yakitori (chicken skewers), takoyaki (fried balls of batter with octopus), and gyoza (pot stickers), as well as larger dishes like seafood bowls and even ramen. Besides the individual dishes and drinks, most izakaya in Japan offer a "tabehoudai" (食べ放題, all you can eat) or "nomihoudai" (飲み放題, all you can drink) course as well. Both courses are structured roughly the same. They usually last 90-120 minutes and allow you to choose most things on the menu. If you order something that isn't included in the course, it will be added onto your bill. The server will generally explain what you can and cannot order with the courses. The prices for these courses vary by izakaya, but both tabehoudai and nomihoudai generally cost somewhere around ¥2,000-¥3,000+. Some izakaya even offer a "tabe-nomihoudai" (食べ飲み放題) course which combines them into an "all-you-can-eat-and-drink" course. You can expect this to cost around ¥4,000-¥5,000+. Something to keep in mind when ordering these courses is that, in general, if one person orders it, everyone has to order it. This is to prevent one person from getting the course and sharing their food or drinks with everybody else. There are some places that don't require everyone to order the course, but these restaurants are not common. Paying the Bill at an Izakaya in Japan Photo:Staff taking payment at a table(写真しゃしん:席せきで会計かいけいをする居酒屋店員いざかやてんいん) When paying your bill at an izakaya in Japan, just like when ordering, it's commonplace to call the staff over with "sumimasen!" The easiest phrase for telling the server you want to pay your bill is "okaikei onegaishimasu" (お会計お願いします, Check, please). If you say this, they'll have the bill at your table in no time. You'll either pay the bill at your table and the staff will bring you your change, or you bring the bill to the register to pay. Every izakaya is different. Another important thing to note when paying at izakaya is that most places will not allow you to split the bill. This is because it's not clear who ate what sometimes, and if there's a large group of people it can take a lot of time to pay. To avoid these problems, most izakaya require that groups pay together. Tokyo? Kosanji Temple & Kosanji Museum: Video Introduction Photo:The main hall of Kosanji Temple in Onomichi, Hiroshima This video, titled "Kosanji Temple & Museum and the Hill of Hope, Setoda, Hiroshima" (耕三寺博物館と未来心の丘、広島県三原市瀬戸田町), was uploaded by "K Nishiyama." Kosanji Temple is located on Ikuchi Island, one of the islands in the Seto Inland Sea in Onomichi, Hiroshima. The temple was built in homage to the Pure Land Buddhism temples of the Nara and Heian periods, and it has a vivid and majestic appearance. The "Hill of Hope," a pure white garden created with marble sculptures, is located in the precincts of the temple. Because of its overwhelming beauty, it has become a new attraction for tourism in Onomichi as an #instaworthy spot. Check out Kosanji Museum, where you can experience Japanese culture, and the Hill of Hope, a new tourist attraction in Onomichi, in the video! The History of Kosanji Temple & Facts About Kosanji Museum Photo:Kosanji Temple, Onomichi, Hiroshima Kosanji Temple, located in Onomichi, Hiroshima, was originally built by Kozo Kanemoto, a businessman from Fukuoka Prefecture, to mourn the loss of his mother. The temple belongs to the Honganji School of Shinshu Jodo Buddhism and is also known as "Haha no Tera" (母の寺, lit. "Mother's Temple"). The temple is called the "Nikko of the West" (a reference to the beautiful Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Tochigi prefecture) for its beautiful color and design, and pagodas modeled after ancient buildings. In 2003, 15 of its buildings were designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. Kosanji Museum exhibits many Important Cultural Properties and nationally designated Important Works of Art. This collection was originally assembled to furnish Chouseikaku Villa, which was built as both a villa and as the resting place for Kozo Kosanji's mother, and later for the temple and the opening of the museum. Immediately after the end of WWII, the museum began displaying and exhibiting the collected works of art, and in 1953, it was reestablished as a nationally registered museum, which it remains to this day. The majority of the collection consists of Buddhist art, tea ceremony art, and modern art, including a famous statue Amida Nyorai (Amitabha) with a crown of gold, which was by constructed by Kaikei, a Buddhist priest of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). What is the Hill of Hope? Photo:The white marble garden at the Hill of Hope in Onomichi, Hiroshima The Hill of Hope, located on the grounds of Kosanji, is a 5,000 square meter white marble garden. Its pure white beauty is reminiscent of the Greek island of Santorini. The marble used in the garden was mined from Carrara, Italy, where the world-renowned sculptor, Itto Kuetani, has his studio. Monuments of various shapes and sizes are placed on the hill, and paths and plazas have been created. Mr. Kuetani created these monuments harmony with the surrounding scenery and nature. He hopes that visitors will enjoy the marble garden as a part of nature, and that they will let their imaginations run wild. Kosanji Temple's Hill of Hope, a unique tourist attraction in Onomichi, is now one of the most popular Instagram spots on the Shimanami Kaido. Particularly popular is "Koumei no To" (Tower of Light), which is placed at the highest point of the Hill of Hope, as if to join hands with the setting sun. In front of the white tower, visitors can take pictures against the sky above the Seto Inland Sea, making it a popular spot for couples and tourists in general. Another instaworthy feature is "Kaze no Shiki" (風の四季, Winds of the Four Seasons); four marble screens representing the winds of the four seasons. They're great for taking pictures. Kosanji Museum and the Hill of Hope: Admission Fees, Average Time Spent Here, Etc. Photo:Nakamon Gate at Kosanji Museum in Onomichi, Hiroshima By entering Kosanji Museum, visitors can also visit the Hill of Hope. Admission is 1,400 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for university and high school students, and free for elementary and junior high school students. A 200 yen discount is available for groups of 20 or more people. Kosanji Temple also offers a "filial piety discount," which provides a 200 yen discount for parents who enter the museum with their children. The average time spent at Kosanji Museum is 1-2 hours. Please take your time and enjoy viewing the temple complex, which is a collection of the beauty of Japanese culture, as well as the works of art throughout the museum. The Hill of Hope is a vast site to explore as well. The estimated time required for this tour is 2 hours, but you may lose track of time as you take pictures and enjoy the spectacular views of the monuments and nature. If you wish to enjoy both the Kosanji Temple Museum and the Hill of Hope, you should expect to spend approximately 5 hours here. Cycling in Onomichi and the Shimanami Kaido Photo:A woman cycling on the Shimanami Kaido While Kosanji Temple, Kosanji Museum, and the Hill of Hope can all be accessed via public transportation or personal vehicles, one of the things Onomichi is known for is the Shimanami Kaido, a popular cycling route that takes cyclists from Onomichi in Hiroshima to Imabari in Ehime, across the Seto Inland Sea. The Shimanami Kaido is dotted with popular tourist attractions and things to do along the way, has great scenery, and is a great way to explore the area. The cycling course will take advanced cyclists 3-5 hours to complete, and beginners should expect the course to take 8-10 hours to complete while stopping at tourist attractions and taking in the scenery along the way. There are bicycle rental terminals with which visitors can rent a bicycle in Onomichi and drop off the bike in Imabari (or vise-versa) after they finish the course, so there's no need to worry about hauling the bike back to where you rented it, or having to bring your own bike. If you're interested in getting some exercise and enjoying the breeze, this is a great course to consider when visiting the Onomichi area. How to Get To Kosanji Museum and the Hill of Hope: Access by Train and Car Photo:Ikuchi Island and Tatara Bridge (Shimanami Kaido) There are many ways to get to Kosanji Museum and the Hill of Hope, including by boat, train, bus, and car. Since the museum is located on Ikuchi Island on the Shimanami Kaido, many people stop by while visiting other tourist attractions in the area. With that out of the way, here, we'll introduce how to get to Kosanji Museum and the Hill of Hope from Hiroshima Station and Onomichi Station. ●From Onomichi Station [Public Transportation] ・Board the "Onomichi-Setoda Cruise" and get off at Ikuchijima/Setoda Port and walk to the museum. ・Take the Onomichi Bus and get off at the Kosanji (耕三寺) bus stop. Tatsuno, a Firefly Haven Surrounded by Nature Source :YouTube screenshot Tatsuno, located in the Kamiina District of Nagano Prefecture, is a mountain town that retains the atmosphere of good old Japan. Tatsuno is known as the "firefly town," and in the early summer, you can observe a group of natural fireflies around Matsuo Gorge. Tatsuno Hotarudoyo Park, adjacent to Matsuo Gorge, is also home to many fireflies, creating beautiful natural scenery. When can fireflies be seen at Matsuo Gorge? Fireflies in Matsuo Gorge can usually be seen from the end of May to early June. The number of fireflies then gradually increases, reaching its peak in mid-June. A popular event called the "Shinshu Tatsuno Firefly Festival" is held during the peak viewing period. In the evening hours, food stalls are lined up in front of the station, and events are also held. It’s considered proper etiquette for onlookers to be quiet when watching the fireflies. Enjoy a wonderful sightseeing trip to see the fantastic fireflies! If you go to Matsuo Gorge for sightseeing by car, you can use the parking lot at the Tatsuno Hotarudoyo Park. You can also park your car in front of Tatsuno Station and use the "park and ride." Be sure to check out the event schedule and parking information before going sightseeing. Matsuo Gorge Is Overflowing With Nature Photo:Tatsuno Hotarudoyo Park Matsuo Gorge was designated a prefectural natural monument in the Taisho Period (1912-1926 AD). The fireflies of Matsuo Gorge are nurtured by the clear waters of the Tenryu River that flows from Lake Suwa. The number of fireflies in Matsuo Gorge can reach 10,000 or more on a good year. We recommend watching the fireflies dance across the riverside from the Matsuo Gorge observation deck. The video shows footage of the Eurasian red squirrel eating nuts and running around cutely. What the Cute Eurasian Red Squirrels of Hokkaido Look Like Photo:A Eurasian Red Squirrel, Hokkaido The Eurasian red squirrel weighs approximately 300 to 410 grams and is approximately 22 to 27 cm in length, which is about the size of a kitten. A baby squirrel is about 6 to 8 centimeters long, making it very small and cute looking. The tail of the Eurasian red squirrel is covered with hair that is roughly 5 cm long, which makes the body of the squirrel itself appear larger. The hair itself is very fine, so you can see in the video how it fluffs up whenever the squirrel moves around. [Video] 4:04 - The cute tail of the Eurasian red squirrel Lifespan of the Eurasian Red Squirrel Photo:A Eurasian Red Squirrel, Hokkaido Natural predators of the Eurasian red squirrel include birds, such as crows, owls, and hawks, as well as cats and foxes. They live in nests in trees to protect themselves from their natural predators. The life span of the Eurasian red squirrel is said to be 2 to 4 years, but in some cases, they may live as long as 6 years. In Japan, they have to endure the harsh cold of Hokkaido, but they do not hibernate. Before winter is in full swing, they gather nuts and bury them in the ground to prepare for winter. Starting from around December, Hokkaido is covered with snow, so it's difficult for humans to tell where the squirrels have hidden their nuts. However, the Eurasian red squirrel can pinpoint the location of buried nuts and eat them. And while the winter coat of the Eurasian red squirrel is characterized by its fluffiness, it changes into a summer coat during the spring and summer months, giving them a slender appearance. Where to Spot the Eurasian Red Squirrel Photo:A wooden path at Maruyama Park, Sapporo The cute and cuddly Eurasian red squirrel lives in places where it's very cold, such as the northern part of Eurasia. In Japan, they can only be seen in Hokkaido. They inhabit the plains and subalpine forests of Hokkaido. It's difficult to go to a natural forest to see Eurasian red squirrels, even if you would like to see them in person after watching a video. We recommend Maruyama Park in Sapporo, Hokkaido. You may be lucky enough to see wild Eurasian red squirrels in Maruyama Park, a park surrounded by nature in Sapporo, Japan. In addition, an albino Eurasian red squirrel was spotted on the campus of Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and blew up on the internet for a while. Incidentally, the Birds and Wildlife Protection Law prohibits the breeding of Eurasian red squirrels. Therefore, you have to go to Hokkaido to see them in Japan. If you want to see these cute little creatures, consider making a trip to Hokkaido! Summary of the Eurasian Red Squirrel Japan offers beautiful natural scenery in each of its four seasons. In this article, we introduced the cute Eurasian red squirrels of Hokkaido. They look like something out of a fairy tale. The sight of them running around energetically in a field of flowers is quite relaxing. Hokkaido is the only place in Japan where you can see Eurasian red squirrels in the wild. In Maruyama Park in Sapporo, there is a possibility to see Eurasian red squirrels in their natural habitat. If you're planning a trip to Hokkaido, consider checking them out? Crab Season at Kinosaki Onsen Photo:Snow crab Winter is all about crab in Japan, and snow crabs caught in the Sea of Japan in the San'in region, where Kinosaki Onsen is located, are said to be the most delicious in Japan. Snow crab is officially called "Zuwai-gani" (ズワイガニ) in Japanese, but the name for snow crab is different depending on what region you visit, with those caught in the San'in region being called "Matsuba-gani" (松葉ガニ). Because snow crab in Kinosaki grows in a plankton-rich environment, it's highly regarded for its superior meat and kani miso. The crab is ranked and sorted by professionals, and depending on the rank, it can cost anywhere from several thousand yen to several tens of thousands of yen. Freshness is the most important factor for snow crab caught in Kinosaki. Furthermore there is also Beni-zuwai-gani, which is the same as regular snow crab , but has slightly less meat, but a sweeter taste. The season for snow crab, which is hard to find outside of season, opens on November 6 and runs until March 20. Be sure to try Matsuba-gani, a luxury food only available in Kinosaki Onsen, if you visit during winter! The soup stock used for the crab sukiyaki is a secret recipe made by simmering 13 different ingredients for 9 hours. A Look at the Beautiful Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido This video, titled "[Superb View / Drone Film] Blue Pond Biei, Hokkaido [4K]" (【絶景/空撮】青い池 北海道美瑛町《4K》 "Blue Pond" Hokkaido), was released by "Noriyuki Ichikawa 《4K Drone Film》." When you hear the name Hokkaido, you probably think of gourmet food like miso ramen and seafood, or perhaps you know of the historical and cultural landmarks, such as Goryokaku or the Brick Warehouses in Otaru. However, if there's one thing we shouldn't forget, it's that Hokkaido is one of the most magnificent natural areas of Japan. One such place in Hokkaido, Biei, has the wonderous "Blue Pond" ("Aoi-Ike" in Japanese) that can be seen in the video. It's as popular as the lavender field in Biei, Furano (富良野). In this article, we'll introduce the Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido. Be sure to follow along with the video to see the beautiful natural landscapes of Hokkaido! The Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido Photo:The Blue Pond The "Blue Pond" is a famous tourist attraction located in Shirogane (白金), Biei, Kamikawa District (上川郡), Hokkaido. Its official name is "Shirogane Blue Pond." As the name suggests, the surface of the pond is a brilliant blue. By nature, the pond does not appear blue, but there is a reason for its color. In the vicinity of Blue Pond, there's the "Shirahige Falls" in the Shirogane Hot Springs area." Shirahige Falls has groundwater welling up from the inside of the cliffs and this water contains aluminum components. When the falls merge with Biei River (美瑛川), colloidal particles that are invisible to the naked eye are created and scatter the rays of sun evenly. The particles tend to scatter short-wavelength blue light, which makes the pond appear blue. In addition, the sulfur and lime components in the Shirogane Hot Spring water flowing from the side of the waterfall also complement the scattering of light, making the stones and rocks on the riverbed appear white. It enhances the blue color of the pond and creates a spectacular view like nothing you've seen before. The Conditions for Seeing the Beautiful Blue Pond Photo:Shirokane Aoi Pond in Biei, Hokkaido A visit to the "Shirogane Blue Pond" does not necessarily mean that you will see the Blue Pond. The keys to seeing the Blue Pond are "weather" and "time of day". It is not recommended to go on rainy days, as the water will increase and the colors become lighter and murky afterwards. That being said, you should check the weather before visiting Shirogane Blue Pond. A good time to visit is in the afternoon. 12:00 - 1:00 PM is generally the best time to visit. The angle of the sun is also an important factor. The angle of the sun will determine whether the colloid glow blue or not. Access To Biei, Hokkaido's Blue Pond Photo:Shirogane Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido Shirogane Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido is a 25-minute bus ride from Biei Station. Take the Tohoku Bus bound for Shirogane Onsen and get off at the "Shirogane Blue Pond Entrance" (白金青い池入口, Shirogane Aoi-ike Iriguchi. If you go via the JR line, it's recommended that you take the JR and drive or use the bus to get to Aoi Pond, as it's far from the nearest station. Parking lots are available for those who come by car. There are various sightseeing destinations around Blue Pond in Biei Town, Hokkaido that are popular as well; "Tokachidake Observatory," "Seidai Park," "Chiyoda no Oka Observation Deck," "Sanai no Oka Observatory Park," "Shinei no Oka Observation Park," and "Shikisai-no-oka Hill." The Hydrangeas of Mimurotoji Temple in Uji, Kyoto: Video Introduction This video, titled "【4k】Hydrangea of Mimurodo temple: Kyoto)" (【4k】三室戸寺・あじさい園-Hydrangea of Mimurodo temple:Kyoto), was uploaded by "Anna Film Production." Mimurotoji Temple (三室戸寺, Mimurotoji, also read as Mimurodoji), located in Uji, Kyoto is a famous location for its beautiful hydrangeas. This video released in 2018 shows the beauty of the hydrangea garden while lit up at night. [Video] 0:36 - Illuminated Hydrangeas at Mimurotoji Temple The History of Mimurotoji Temple and Its Connection to the Tale of Genji Photo:Mimurotoji Temple, Kyoto Mimurotoji Temple, an important temple in Western Japan, dates back to the Nara period (710-794 AD). According to temple legends, it was founded by a high-ranking Buddhist monk at the request of Emperor Konin in 770 A.D., approximately 1,200 years ago. Mimurotoji Temple was written "御室戸寺" (Mimurotoji) in Chinese characters when it was built, but after it was used as a detached palace for Emperor Konin, Emperor Kazan, and Emperor Shirakawa, it was renamed as "三室戸寺" (Mimurotoji) by replacing the first character "御" (an honorific character) with "三" (three), to signify the three emperors. After many ups and downs, the current main hall was rebuilt in 1814 in the late Edo Period, thanks to efforts by the monk Honyo. The temple is considered to be the model for the mountain temple depicted in Uji Jujo (The Ten Chapters of Uji), one of the final sections in The Tale of Genji. The name "Ukifune," which is a name of a part of the chapters, is engraved on a bell in the temple cast around 350 years ago, and the name "Ukifune" is also engraved on the ancient monument next to the bell. These facts suggest that the temple has been associated with the Tale of Genji since at least the early Edo period (circa 1603 to 1700 A.D.). Mimuroto-ji Temple, one of the best hydrangea garden in Kyoto, will be open from early June in 2024. What are the hours of illumination and admission fees? Photo:Hydrangeas at Mimurotoji Temple, Kyoto Visitors to the temple can enjoy the sight of 20,000 hydrangeas of 50 different varieties. The best time to visit is from early June to early July. The official Mimurotoji Temple Instagram reports the flowering status from time to time. In 2022, they were at around 30% bloom in early June, reaching peak bloom around June 20. We recommend that visitors to Mimuroto to see the 2024 hydrangeas check Instagram in advance. Along with the illuminated hydrangeas, another popular thing to see at the temple is the heart-shaped hydrangeas. They're a favorite of visitors since being promoted by Iwai Seika (a teahouse in the precincts of the temple). Be sure to keep an eye out for them when perusing the lovely hydrangeas at the temple. [Video] 0:29 - A Heart-Shaped Hydrangea Heart-shaped amulets and Ema (絵馬, votive plaques) are also available. In addition, there are 4 types of regular shuin (御朱印), and seasonal shuin stamps, so those who them should check these out as well. ●Hydrangea Garden (daytime) June 1 - July 7, 2024 Time: 8:30 - 15:40 (dismount by 16:30) ●Ajisai Garden (light-up) Saturdays and Sundays only, June 8 - 23, 2024 Hours: 19:00 - 21:00 (registration closes at 20:30) Day and night are switched. Admission is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children for both the daytime and nighttime sessions, respectively. The Guardian Creatures of Mimurotoji Temple: Rabbits, Snakes, and Oxen Photo:Ugashin, the guardian snake of Mimurotoji Temple, Kyoto Unlike other temples with komainu (guardian lion-dogs), Mimurotoji Temple has stone statues of guardian rabbits and guardian oxen near the main hall, as well as guardian snakes near the stone steps. Ugashin is a statue with a human head and snake body. It impresses visitors with its shape which is said to being good fortune when stroked. The guardian rabbit statue is 1.5 meters tall (~5 ft.) and holds a large ball. It's said that your wish will come true when the egg-shaped stone in the ball stands up. Petting the guardian oxen is said to bring good luck as well. Unfortunately, the guardian creatures cannot be seen during the evening lighting-up, so be sure to visit them during the day to receive their blessings. Seasonal Highlights of Mimurotoji Temple: 20,000 Azaleas and Weeping Plums in The Garden! Photo:Azaleas at Mimurotoji Temple, Kyoto The temple sits on a 4-acre plot of land and also has an azalea garden and a weeping plum garden. The Shidare Ume Garden is home to 250 weeping plum trees in red, white, and pink. The garden is open from mid-February to the end of March every year from 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. In 2024, the garden was open from February 8 to March 31. The azalea garden features approximately 20,000 azalea plants. The best time to see the azaleas is usually around GW. This year, the garden will be open from April 20 to May 12, 2024, from 8:30 to 15:40. In front of the main hall is a lotus garden with 250 pots of lotus flowers. This year, the garden is scheduled to open from late June to early August 2024. The scene is reminiscent of a paradise. In July, when the lotus flowers are at their best, the park also hosts a "lotus wine drinking party," in which visitors pour sake into lotus leaves and drink from the stems. It is believed to be good for health and longevity, so why not give it a try? Admission to the azalea garden, weeping plum garden, and lotus garden is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children. Chinoike Jigoku at Beppu Onsen This video is a 4K video that introduces Chinoike Jigoku at Beppu onsen, Beppu, Oita. This video was published by "TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful." Seeing the blood red hot springs and hearing the name "Blood Pond of Hell" might cause some readers fear. Well before you get too scared let us explain what kind of place Oita's Chinoike Jigoku is. Be sure to follow along with the video! Chinoike Jigoku Photo:Beppu's hot springs at night There are many famous hot spring resorts in Japan. Among them, Beppu City in Oita Prefecture in Japan's Kyushu region is the most abundant in Japan in terms of both the sheer number of hot springs and the amount of water that flows from the springs. Beppu onsen is one of the most popular tourist spots in Japan. Even regular city hotels have natural hot springs here. Chinoike Jigoku, located in the Beppu area, is a natural hell with a distinctive red hot spring. It has a long history and has existed in Beppu for over 1,300 years. Take a tour of Chinoike Jigoku and the surrounding area to enjoy the charm of this unique Japanese hot spring. Must See Spots and Key Points of Chinoike Jigoku Photo:Chinoike Jigoku Once you go through the gate, Jigoku mon (lit. "Hells Gate"), the first thing you'll see is the vivid red springs. The spring is shown from 0:56 in the video, and if you've never seen it before, you'll be really surprised at how red it actually is. Chinoike Jigoku looks like a pool of boiling hot blood as it bubbles and steams. This acidic melanterite spring is around 78 degrees Celsius. Why is the spring so red you might be wondering. This is because red hot mud, containing an abundance of magnesium oxide and iron oxide, erupts from the geological strata after a chemical reaction occurs naturally under high temperature and pressure underground. There is also a footbath at Chinoike Jigoku where you can dip your feet in the red hot water. After sightseeing, we recommend buying a souvenir called "血の池軟膏" (Blood Pond Ointment), a skin disease remedy made from the hot mud of Chinoike Jigoku. The "Hell Tour" of Beppu Onsen In addition to Chinoike Jigoku, there are many other locations called "Hells." Photo:Umi Jigoku Beppu Onsen's "Jigoku" hell tour includes 7 spots: Umi Jigoku, Oniishi Bouzu Jigoku, Kamado Jigoku, Oniyama Jigoku, Shiraike Jigoku, Chinoike Jigoku, and Tatsumaki Jigoku. Night View of Yokkaichi Factories: A Rising Tourist Attraction The phrase ‘night view’ would cause many to think of the lights of a town observed from the top of a mountain or an observatory. However, in recent years, night views of factories have been gaining popularity. So what's all the buzz about? This video introduces the ‘Night View of Yokkaichi Factories’ with a breathtaking and wondrous movie made using time-lapse footage. Why Are Nighttime Factories So Popular? Photo:Yokkaichi Factories Japan offers a variety of places in which you can observe factories at night across the country. Yet, the Yokkaichi Industrial Area (四日市工場地帯, Yokkaichi Kojo Chitai) in Mie Prefecture, Kansai Region (関西地方, Kansai Chiho), introduced in the video, is the MECCA of night view factories, due to its spectacular views. Along the coastline of Yokkaichi sit factories of major corporations, such as factories of Kioxia, one of the leading electric companies in Japan, factories and petrochemical complexes of JSR Corporation, and so on. The view of the water reflecting the glaring lights of these huge factories is utterly breathtaking. The fire and smoke billowing from the chimneys is absolutely gorgeous. (Although admittedly probably not great for the environment). Observe the Night View From ‘Umiterasu 14’ Photo:Umiterasu Since there are no high grounds near Yokkaichi Industrial Area, it's difficult to observe the factories at night from up high. However, ‘Umiterasu 14’, a commercial building located 15-minutes from JR Tomidohama Station by foot, offers an opportunity for a spectacular view of Yokkaichi factories from above. Pop in the lift inside the building and enjoy the beautiful landscape from the paid area on the 14th floor. But, be careful because the observatory in ‘Umiterasu 14’ closes at 5 pm on weekdays. It's open until 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, so we recommend visiting during the weekend. How to Enjoy the Night View of Yokkaichi Factories Photo:Yokkaichi factories Many people visit Yokkaichi Industrial Area for the purpose of taking photos, making it a famous Instagrammable spot. It's a popular destination for families, solo travelers, and couples alike. We also recommend joining the cruise tour in which tourists can enjoy the wondrous atmosphere of factories at night from the comfort of a boat. The popular Gotochi Bear (a stuffed bear) souvenir, ‘Night View of Yokkaichi Factories Bear’ is sold exclusively at EXPASA Gozaisho, a service area of NEXCO Naka Nihon, a highway near Yokkaichi Industrial Area. The Gotochi Bear, depicting the night view of Yokkaichi City (四日市市, Yokkaichishi) with fresh blue, will certainly make for a great memory. Summary of the Night View of Yokkaichi Factories The Yokkaichi Industrial Area is accessible on foot from JR Yokkaichi Station and Tondahama Station. We recommend that you use parking lots in the Kasumigaura area because there are no parking lots in the Shiohama area. In addition, there are many other spots to observe the factories at night, such as Taisho Bridge (大正橋, Taishobashi), Isozu・Suzuka River (鈴鹿川, Suzukagawa) the nearby estuaries, Tarusaka Park・Hazuyama Green Space (垂坂公園・羽津山緑地, Tarusaka Koen ・ Hazuyama Ryokuchi) and more. Be sure to visit the must-see Yokkaichi factories at night. But for now, please enjoy the beauty of the factories through the video as this time-lapse movie does a great job of conveying their charm. -
