This video shows aerial views of the remote islands in Kagoshima prefecture, which are overflowing with natural beauty. There are six remote islands introduced in this video: Yakushima, Yoronjima, Tanegashima, Koshikijima, Kakeromajima, and Amami Oshima. The Best Remote Islands to Enjoy Water Sports! If you're looking to enjoy water sports and activities on a remote island in Kagoshima Prefecture, we recommend Yoronjima and Kakeromajima. Yoronjima is an island full of flowers and coral reefs. It has Terasaki Beach, which became famous as a location featured in the movie "Glasses" (めがね), and Yurigahama Beach, a pure white sandy beach that appears only during low tide. The sea is crystal clear, and in the summer months it's crowded with water sports enthusiasts. The main tourist attraction on Kakeromajima is the 300-year-old Indian coral tree trees that line the street near the beach. The bright red flowers on these trees bloom from May to June. There is also the beautiful beach Surihama, which is called the White Village. Water sports are very popular here. It's a small island, about 20 minutes by ferry from Amami Oshima, and the main spots on the island can be visited on a day trip. The Best Remote Islands to Enjoy the Ocean, Mountains and Villages! If you want to enjoy the beauty of the sea, mountains, and countryside of Kagoshima Prefecture, we recommend Koshikijima and Amami Oshima. There are many viewing points, such as a coastline with bizarre rock structures and the ruins of a village from the Edo period. We recommend going for a drive while looking out at the breathtaking scenery. Koshikijima is located just 50 minutes from Sendai Harbor (川内港) by high speed boat, and it's easily accessible from Kagoshima City, so a day trip to the island is possible. Amami Oshima is famous for its beautiful blue waters. The subtropical oceanic climate has led to the emergence of virgin forests, which are home to rare plant and animal species. The island is home to a wealth of rare flora and fauna, and you can even go on a canoeing adventure through a mangrove forest! Special Experience on Kagoshima's Islands If you're looking for a unique experience you wont find anywhere else, then we recommend Yakushima and Tanegashima. Yakushima was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1993, and trekking is very popular here. You can feel the mystical power of Yakushima by walking along popular routes, such as Shiratani Unsui Gorge. Yakushima also has hot springs, and the Hirauchi Kaichu Natural Onsen (hot springs), which emerge from the sea for just two hours before and after low tide, are a tourist attraction not to be missed! Tanegashima is famous as the birthplace of guns in Japan. A visit to Tanegashima Space Center, which sits at the forefront of space research and development, is another experience you don't want to overlook. Once You've Had Your Fill of the Remote Islands, It's Time to Grab a Bite to Eat! After visiting the islands of Kagoshima, you'll want to try some of the delicious food and go sightseeing in the area. Jonamagashi - A Popular Japanese Sweet From Kanazawa, Japan This video, titled "Jonamagashi: Kanazawa Food Culture, Seasonal Japanese Sweets|nippon.com" (上生菓子:四季を彩る金沢の菓子文化| nippon.com), was created by "nippon.com." Kanazawa City in Ishikawa Prefecture was a castle town of the Kaga domain during the Edo Period, and the traditional Japanese sweets produced here are some of the best in Japan, on par with those produced in Kyoto (京都府) and Matsue, Shimane (島根県松江市). There are three main types of Wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets): Higashi (干菓子), Namagashi (生菓子), and Jonamagashi. Of these three types of wagashi, Jonamagashi is thought to have played an integral role in the development of tea ceremony culture in Japan. Kanazawa is a city steeped in culture and history, second only to Kyoto in Japan, and has a tradition of producing high quality, artistic Jonamagashi famously decorated with gold leaf. A high level of skill is required to make Jonamagashi, which is what makes them so special amongst Japanese sweets. They are a confectionary that appeals to all five senses and are a great way to celebrate the changing of the seasons. The History of Jonamagashi and Tea Ceremony Photo:Tea Ceremony Tea ceremony in Japan dates back to the Azuchi-Momoyama Period when it was systematized by Sen no Rikyu (千利休) who is considered the founder of tea ceremony. It wasn't until the 1,700's, during the genroku portion of the Edo Period, that tea ceremony really spread throughout the rest of Japan, and Kanazawa is thought to be the birthplace of Noto (能登) Jonamagashi. Tea ceremony is held based on a particular theme, and the tools used vary depending on the chosen theme. This is called "dougugumi" (道具組). Wagashi are carefully selected and only those which complement the tools used in tea ceremony are chosen. This is also taken into consideration when creating Jonamagashi, resulting in a variety of beautiful shapes and designs. Artisan wagashi makers must channel all of their skills into the creation of one type of wagashi. You can hear Ishikawa Prefecture Tea Ceremony Association representative Sosui Oshima (大島宗翠) speak more about the subject from 0:54 in the video. How To Make Jonamagashi Source :YouTube screenshot Second generation wagashi maker Hironobu Yoshihashi of the well-established wagashi store "Yoshihashi" (吉はし), which has been in business for over 70 years, is featured in the video from 1:17. Enjoy watching the skilled hands of the artisan wagashi makers. Since Japan has a very warm and humid climate, a high proportion of sugar is necessary to preserve the wagashi. However, in the past, sugar was a luxury product that could only be afforded by the rich and wealthy. A great deal of thought and care is put into the taste, texture, design and feel of Jonamagashi. Jonamagashi are often referred to as the ultimate wagashi, with an extremely high level of artistic quality. From 1:58 in the video, you can take a look at Jonamagashi which have been designed to represent each month of the year. Summary of Kanazawa's Jonamagashi Source :YouTube screenshot From 0:45 in the video, you can see "Ajisai" (紫陽花), the most famous Jonamagashi. This is one of the items available for purchase at Kanazawa's wagashi store, "Yoshihashi". You can purchase Jonamagashi from Yoshihashi by ordering online before visiting the store. Beautiful Jonamagashi from the wagashi store Yoshihashi are the perfect souvenir to take home from your trip to Kanazawa! Jonamagashi are also a great way to enjoy the changing seasons, a treat which is pleasing for both the eyes and taste buds! -

A Breathtaking Sea of Blooming Cherry Blossoms! Rokudo Bank in Nagano Prefecture Is a Place That Should Be on Your Bucket List!

Nagano Prefecture’s Famous Cherry Blossom Wonderland, Rokudo Bank! This video, titled "[ 4K UltraHD ] 六道堤の桜 - Cherry Blossoms at Rokudo Bank - (shot on Samsung NX1)," was created by "AQUA Geo Graphic." This three-minute video captures a stunning view of the sea of cherry blossoms at Rokudo Bank Normally, when thinking of the Koshinetsu region or the Nanshin region of Nagano Prefecture (甲信越地方・長野県南信地方, koshinetsu chiho・nagano-ken nanshin chiho), the area best known for cherry blossoms would be Takato Castle Ruins Park (高遠城址公園, takato joshi koen). This park is one of the three great cherry blossom spots in Japan, known for having "the best cherry blossoms under the heavens." However, another special spot, known only to locals, exists in Ina City (伊那市, ina-shi). Enjoy the beautiful cherry blossom viewing spots of Nagano Prefecture in the video. Rokudo Bank, Nagano Prefecture Photo:Cherry blossoms at Rokudo Bank Rokudo Bank is just 10 minutes from Takato Castle Park by car. Though a hidden spot, it's known to have cherry blossoms every bit as beautiful as those in the main park. The snow-tipped peaks of the Kiso Mountains can be seen from 0:36 to 1:55 in the video. Because Ina City in Nagano Prefecture is at a high elevation and surrounded by mountains, the cherry blossom season tends to be a bit late, but cherry blossoms are usually at their best from early to mid-April. The Cherry Blossoms of Rokudo Bank Photo:Cherry blossoms at Rokudo Bank The reservoir is surrounded by approximately 120 takato-okuhigan cherry trees. The sight of the sea of cherry blossoms in full bloom stretching as far as the eye can see is nothing short of breathtaking. On days when the weather is nice, the cherry blossoms are reflected on the surfaces of the water, creating a dream-like scenery. Definitely take some pictures to post on your Instagram! You can see this beautiful scenery in the video as well. As seen at the beginning of the video, there is a little island of red pines in the middle of the reservoir. This adds to the Japan-esque scenery. You can also see two cute ducks swimming peacefully through the cherry blossoms at 1:23 in the video. In addition to the full bloom period, another great time to visit is when the cherry blossoms began to scatter with the wind as the season begins to end. Summary of Rokudo Bank Photo:Cherry blossoms at Rokudo Bank In this article, we introduced Nagano prefecture’s hidden gem- the cherry blossoms of Rokudo Bank. This place is loved dearly by locals for its beautiful scenery. Of course, the historical Takato Castle Park is known for its stunning cherry blossoms as well. If you have the chance to visit Ina City in Nagano Prefecture, we definitely recommend checking out the blooming forecast before going. ◆Rokudo Bank◆ 【Address】Misuzu, Ina City, Nagano Prefecture 【Access】A 15-minute drive from Ina-Kita Station on the Central Japan Railway Iida Line 【Parking】Available(Free・5 Spaces) 【Official Homepage】Ina City Tourism Association -

Halloween in Tokyo From the Eyes of a Foreigner! An Exciting Day of Cosplay in Shibuya!

Shibuya Gone Wild! Tokyo's Nightscape in a Masquerade of Colors and Costumes! Halloween has become one of October's main features in Japan, too, and in Tokyo, both Shibuya and Roppongi host a variety of Halloween events. TOKYObrah's video “HALLOWEEN IN TOKYO, JAPAN! Tokyo Halloween! Shibuya Party 4K(HALLOWEEN IN TOKYO, JAPAN! 東京ハロウィン! 渋谷パーティ 4K)” presents Shibuya’s Halloween celebrations from the eyes of a foreigner. Just watching the participants wearing their costumes is indeed a lot of fun! The Heart of Tokyo’s Halloween Is in Shibuya Photo:Halloween masquerade A crowd of dressed-up people piles up in front of the JR Shibuya train station, moving towards Shibuya Crossing. Even the Japanese, known for being shy, become open and friendly on Halloween, and people in the video often wave at the cameraman with a smile. Join Tokyo’s Halloween Parade! Source :YouTube screenshot When asked to pose for the video, many girls in their different costumes gave their best shot at it in spite of their shyness. The cameramen, too, who was dressed as Lionel Messi, managed to gather a crowd of people all dressed the same as him, with minimal effort. Wearing a costume makes it easier to open up with strangers, which is what makes Halloween so special. Other Foreigners Joined the Halloween Party, Too! Many foreigners gather in the city for Halloween, and some of them show up dressed as famous characters. The celebrations have been getting bigger and bigger every year, and this makes it easier for people from abroad to participate. Everybody chants with a smile “Happy Halloween!” and “Trick or Treat!” It’s Not Just a Halloween Costume Party! Source :YouTube screenshot Even among the more casual costumes there are some that really catch the eye, like the cute bunny girls or the TV characters from local comedy shows. The Jack Sparrow costume at 5:40 and 6:45 are really spectacular, and deserve a special mention. High quality costumes are one of the main attractions of Shibuya's Halloween, and often get featured in the news. Halloween’s Origins: The Harvest Festival The Jack-o'-lantern, Halloween’s omnipresent carved pumpkin, is a symbol everyone knows. Halloween was originally a religious celebration aimed at getting rid of the evil spirits during the harvest season, but as the years went by it shifted towards a more folkloristic event where kids dressed up in scary costumes and were rewarded with treats. In Japan, trick-or-treating was soon abandoned in favor of a costume party event for young people. Tokyo’s Halloween: Summary In Tokyo, lots of young people cosplay during the last weekend of October. As you can see from the video many people dressed as famous Japanese anime characters, while others chose more old-fashioned costumes, like witches and zombies. This is an event that anyone can enjoy, regardless of age or nationality. Even though the video conveys the excitement of Shibuya’s Halloween, it's even better to experience it in person. If you’re in Tokyo in October, make sure you don't miss it! -

200 Cats in Aoshima, Ehime?! Enjoy the Best Sightseeing Spot for Cat Lovers, “Cat's Paradise”!

Introducing "Cat Paradise" in Aoshima, Ehime Prefecture "JG☆☆☆4K 愛媛 青島(十数人の住民と百匹のネコ) Ehime, Aoshima (10+ residents and 100+ cats)" produced by "JAPAN GEOGRAPHIC" is a sightseeing video introducing the charms of Aoshima, an island floating in the Seto Inland Sea. In this video, the many cats of Aoshima, Ehime Prefecture, located in Japan's Shikoku region, are filmed for over an hour. This is a must watch for cat lovers! See how many cats you can count while sightseeing at Aoshima's "Cat's Paradise." Sightseeing in Aoshima, Ehime Prefecture Photo:Aoshima Located in Nagahamacho, Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, Aoshima is only 0.49 square kilometres, about the size of 10 Tokyo Domes. as of 2019, only three families with a total of six people live there. Aoshima, Ehime Prefecture, is also called "Nekojima" (Cat Island), and there are more than 200 cats on the island. A cat called “Dokin-chan”, which is particularly popular among the other felines, has had a photo book made about it, and it is loved by many fans. Around Aoshima, net fishing and single-line fishing are thriving, so you can enjoy gourmet seafood made with the freshest catches. In August, the historic festival "Aoshima Bon Odori," which is designated as an Ehime Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property, is held, and it is very popular. Highlights of Aoshima's "Cat Paradise" Photo:Cats at Aoshima There are plenty of highlights in this hour long video! Hundreds of cats are seen throughout the video. As we said before, it's the perfect place for cat lovers. At 3:34 in the video, you can see several cats gathering near a docked ship, looking for some treats no doubt. At around 10:33 in the video, you can see cats playing with fish and at 20:41, we see a large number of cats gathering up to be fed by the islands visitors. Aoshima Shrine on the island is also home to cats. This can be seen at 31:09 in the video. You can see various things in the video, such as cats basking in the sun, and sometimes they even get into some quarrels. Try to find your favorite scene! How to Get to Aoshima Source :YouTube screenshot You can get to Aoshima by heading to Nagahama Port, a one-minute walk from JR Iyo Nagahama Station, and taking the local ferry. The only way to access Aoshima is the regular ferry which has a capacity of 34 people. The fare is 700 yen one way and 1360 yen round trip. (As of November 2019) The timetable is as follows: Departure from Nagahama at 8: 00/14: 30, and departure from Aoshima Port at 8: 45/16: 15 (* As of November 2019). Restrooms are located at the docking area, and there are also day trips to see Aoshima and its surroundings. The ferry may be canceled due to inclement weather, so if you don't want your trip to be interrupted, we recommend staying at a hotel in Nagahama, Ehime Prefecture and gathering information there. Please note that there are no accommodations or shops on the island. The Problem With the "Cat Paradise," Aoshima Most cats that live on Aoshima are strays, so many cats have not been fixed, and you can still see kittens, as you can see at 7:35 in the video. An increase in the number of cats and the deterioration of the environment are 2 of the island's major problems. Aoshima has a small population, and it's possible that ferries to the island may be stopped in the future. If there is no one left on the island, cat management and feeding problems may occur. Because of this, immediate action is required. When tourists travel to Aoshima by ferry, they must follow rules, such as cleaning up their garbage and feeding limits. -

Video introduction to Shifukuji Temple, a hydrangea temple in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture This time, we introduce a video titled "[4K]Ajisai Temple: 1200 hydrangea flowers in the shifukuji temple, Miyagi Japan".([4K]Ajisai Temple 仙台のあじさい寺・資福寺に咲く1200株の紫陽花 hydrangea flower in the shifukuji temple, Miyagi Japan) The video shows the precincts of Shifukuji Temple in full bloom with hydrangeas at their best. What is Sendai Hydrangea Temple "Shifukuji"? Highlights and history Shifukuji Temple, also known as the Hydrangea Temple (あじさい寺, Ajisai-dera), is located in Kitayama, Aoba Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture in the Tohoku region of Japan (Miyagi-ken Sendai-shi Aoba-ku Kitayama). The temple is formally known as the Shiunzan Shifukuji Zen Temple (慈雲山 資福禅寺, Shiunzan Shifukuji-zen-dera) of the Myoshinji Sect of the Rinzai school of Buddhism (臨済宗妙心寺派, Rinzai-shu Myoshinji-ha). As suggested by the name "Hydrangea Temple," Shifukuji Temple is known for its more than 1,200 bunches of blooming hydrangeas. The temple is a popular sightseeing destination in Sendai. An especially popular and Insta-worthy spot is the hydrangea-lined path leading to the sanmon gate. This can be seen at 0:56 in the video. Shifukuji Temple (Hydrangea Temple) has a long and rich history. It was originally constructed in Takahata Town, Yamagata Prefecture (山形県高畠町, Yamagata-ken Takahata-machi) in the Tohoku region of Japan. During the Warring States period (1467~1615), Kosai Soitsu (虎哉宗乙, Kosai Soitsu) became the chief priest of the temple. After Kosai became the educator of Sendai’s feudal lord Date Masamune (伊達政宗, Date Masamune), the temple was moved to Sendai. The ruins of the former Shifukuji Temple can still be found in Takahata Town, along with the graves of Date Masamune’s ancestors and Endo Motonobu (遠藤基信, Endo Motonobu), one of the Date clan’s chief vassals. Shifukuji Temple is also known for the statue of Ninomiya Sontoku (二宮金次郎, Ninomiya Sontoku). When is the best time to see hydrangeas at Shifukuji Temple? Sendai Hydrangea Temple "Shifukuji" has about 1,200 hydrangea plants in its precincts. The best time to view them is usually from mid-June to early July. The best time to view them depends on the weather, so please check the weather information website for the blooming conditions. Access to Sendai’s Hydrangea Temple Photo:Shifukuji・Hydrangeas Parking spaces are available behind the Main Hall of Shifukuji Temple. However, as the roads leading to the temple are narrow, we recommend that visitors take public transportation such as buses. The peak viewing season for the hydrangeas is late June, and many events, such as matcha-tasting at Shoshoin (小書院, Shoshoin), are held. However, as many visitors congregate during this time, it can be difficult to find a free parking space. In addition, a zen meditation session is held on the 1st of every month. This is also a popular event that draws many visitors. What is the language of flowers for the hydrangea variety? Photo:Shifukuji・Hydrangeas Hydrangeas bloom during Japan's rainy season, and appear in shades of white, purple, blue and red from May to July, growing to about 1m to 2m. In Japan, they symbolize both a young girl’s love or persevering love, as well as the opposing meaning of capriciousness and betrayal. The latter meaning is thought to be derived from the fact that the flowers' color changes depending on the quality of the soil. The colorful cluster which is frequently mistaken for flowers is actually the calyx of the hydrangea, with the flower petals hidden in the middle of the cluster. This is where pollination occurs and seeds are formed. The hydrangea is native to Japan, China, Taiwan and South America. They are deciduous shrubs of the Hydrangeacae family, and are also known as the Western hydrangea. The various species of hydrangea include the hydrangea macrophylla f. macrophylla, hydrangea quercifolia, hydrangea serrata, as well as the hydrangea macrophylla f. normalis. Recommended for beginner growers? How to grow "Hydrangea Photo:A potted Hydrangea The cultivation and care of hydrangeas is fairly simple, making it great plant even for beginners at gardening. For potting, first cut 2 centimeters off the stem of the hydrangea. Place the cut stem in water for about 30 minutes. In the meantime, place a net at the bottom of the pot, then fill the pot with Kanuma soil or Akadama soil and then moisten it. Next, create an opening to insert the cut stem. In about one month’s time, roots will grow. After the roots have grown sufficiently, transfer the shrub to a large pot. Place the pot in a place with plenty of sunlight, water the shrub frequently, and the hydrangea will grow healthily. View Hydrangeas at Sendai's Hydrangea Temple! Photo:Shifukuji・Hydrangeas How about it? Revitalize yourself and enjoy the sight of colorful hydrangea at the Hydrangea Temple! Furthermore, besides the hydrangea season, during other times of the year, you can enjoy the majestic bamboo forest as well! There is even a goshuin (commemorative seal stamp) available.
