Terraced Rice Fields Just Outside Tokyo! This video, titled "Chiba Hiratsuka terraced rice field - 棚田 - 4K Ultra HD," was released by "TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful." Have you ever seen a terraced rice field? Many people think that you have to go to Niigata or other places in Japan's Tohoku region to see terraced rice fields. The video introduces the beautiful terraced rice fields of Kamogawa, Chiba a place easily accessible from Tokyo. Let's take a look at some of Japan's beautiful landscapes in the video! The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields Photo:The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, Chiba Prefecture The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, featured in the video, is famous for being the closest terraced rice field to Tokyo. The area is 3.2 hectares, with more than 375 paddies extending across the hillside. Even today, many rice paddies are used for farming and this scenery can be said to be a classic Japanese landscape. Because of its proximity to Tokyo, Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields has introduced an "owner system" as a place for urban farmers to experience agriculture, and it has even been featured in the news. In addition to rice cultivation, they've also built an observation area and an observation floor, and hold events, such as "Tanada no Akari," a light up event utilizing 10,000 LED candles. The event attracts many tourists. The beautiful scene of a sunrise created between the paddies at 0:31 is something that not even a high-quality video can do justice to. The Terraced Rice Fields Found All Over Japan Photo:Rice fields and mountains in rural Japan Many of Japan’s rice fields are built on an inclination. This has the advantage of allowing for easy water control and improved rice production. One drawback, however, is that these are stair-stepped on steep slopes with land that is difficult to drain due to narrow cultivation units, and there are many places with no successors. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has designated 100 of the 134 terraced rice fields across Japan as the "Top 100 Terraced Rice Fields of Japan" in order to maintain the terraced rice fields and stimulate tourism in those areas. Although the word "terraced rice paddies" is used to describe the fields, the shape and characteristics of each paddy differs from place to place, so traveling across Japan to explore the different scenery of each area can make for a fun road trip! Many of these places have reputations for their Instagrammable and photogenic scenery as well. Famous Places to visit on Chiba Prefecture's Boso Peninsula Photo:Walruses at Kamogawa Sea World, Chiba Prefecture The Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, is home to the Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields. It can be easily accessed from Tokyo by JR limited express trains, express buses, and the Tokyo Bay Aqualine. On Boso Peninsula, many tourists visit Kamogawa Sea World, Mother Farm, and go swimming during the summer. In addition to the Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, Boso Peninsula has many other sightseeing spots that make it an excellent travel destination. Summary of the Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields Photo:Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, Chiba Prefecture We hope the beautiful scenery of the rice fields in the video provided a relaxing atmosphere. There are many terraced rice fields that can be found across Japan, so be sure to do some research before your trip to find one that you can visit! If you live in Japan you can also use the “owner system” to become the owner of a beautiful rice field and grow your own rice! 【Tripadvisor】The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g1021271-d1944760-r554882939-Oyama_Rice_Terraces-Kamogawa_Chiba_Prefecture_Kanto.html -

Autumn Foliage at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and KamadoShrine: Video introduction Photo:Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Fukuoka Prefecture This video, titled "Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Mt. Hozan|Hiking and Autumn Leaves at Kamado Shrine SONY a6500" (太宰府天満宮 Dazaifu tenmangu宝満山 登山 紅葉の竈門神社(かまど) SONY a6500), was uploaded by "Ishii Valley" (石井渓谷). The 4.5-minute video shows the beautiful autumn foliage found at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kamado Shrine. The video provides a realistic feeling as if you were actually visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kamado Shrine. Be sure to check out the beautiful autumn leaves in the video, especially around the 2-minute mark! How to Get To Homanzan Kamado Shrine From Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine Photo:Kamado Shrine, Fukuoka Prefecture Dazaifu, located in Fukuoka Prefecture, in Japan's Kyushu region, is widely known for Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. However, if you visit in the fall, there's another spot that we highly recommend you visit in conjunction with Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. That is, Kamado Shrine. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kamado Shrine are located very close to one another, so it's possible to visit both places in the same day. If you're going from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, a 5-minute walk from Dazaifu Station, to Kamado Shrine, it will take you about 30 minutes on foot. If you use public transportation, the Mahoroba bus (まほろば号) is a convenient way to get to the shrine. Take the bus bound for Uchiyama (内山) from the bus stop Miyamae (宮前) (in front of the Sanjo 7-Eleven), and you will arrive at the last stop, Uchiyama (in front of the shrine), in about 7 minutes. Since there are not many buses, you may want to check the bus schedule in advance before visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. On the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, you'll find a variety of snacks, such as umegae mochi, a specialty of Fukuoka, as well as Japanese sweets made from strawberries, and Mont Blanc. There is also a wide variety of restaurants in the area, and other stalls selling things like steamed buns. If you have time to spare, consider taking a break for lunch or a quick snack. Kamado Shrine and the Anime Demon Slayer + Popular Charms Photo:Mt. Homan, Fukuoka Prefecture Homanzan Kamado Shrine has seen an increase in the number of visitors to the shrine, due to the enormous popularity of Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba). However, not many people know much about Kamado Shrine itself. Kamado Shrine is located at the foot of Mt. Homan, known as a sacred mountain of Dazaifu. Mt. Homan is the located in the northeast, an unlucky direction, and rituals were held here to protect Dazaifu and the nation, leading to the construction of the Shinto shrine on the site. The main deity is Tamayori-hime no Mikoto. This deity is known as a god of marriage because of her divine power to attract souls ("tama," in Japanese). In addition, the shrine is also blessed with the power to ward off bad luck and evil spirits. It's said that the shrine's popularity was sparked by the fact that the surname of Tanjiro Kamado, the main character of Demon Slayer, is the same as that of the Kamado Shrine. The shrine is said to have been named after Mt. Homan, the mountain on which it stands, because of its shape, which resembles a kamado (a type of traditional Japanese stove). As mentioned above, the fact that the shrine was built to ward off demons is also a point of interest to fans of Demon Slayer. One of the most popular spots at the shrine is the amulet office. The building was designed based on the concept of "a building that will continue to be loved even 100 years from now," with pink and white as its base color, creating a modern atmosphere. When the shrine office was rebuilt, world-renowned interior designer Masamichi Katayama participated in the project, and the benches and chairs on the observation terrace were designed by Jasper Morrison. Be sure to take a look at the stylish shrine office, as it's not something you'd expect to find at a Shinto shrine. One of the most popular spots at the shrine is the amulet office. As for good luck charms, or "omamori" (お守り) in Japanese, the most popular is the ichigo omamori (いちごお守り, strawberry charm). In the old days, the four-character idiom "Ichi-go ichi-e" (一期一会), a Japanese phrase used to describe once-in-a-lifetime encounters, was used to describe a marriage or an important match, and this amulet is a prayer for such precious encounters to come true. There are many other cute charms and amulets sold at the shrine besides the strawberry charm, so consider purchasing one to commemorate your visit to the shrine. Hiking Mt. Homan, a Popular Sacred Mountain in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Photo:A hiking trail on Mt. Homan, Fukuoka Prefecture Mt. Homan, located in Dazaifu City, is a sacred mountain that has been praised since ancient times as a mountain where the gods dwell. It's a very popular mountain among hikers, many of whom visit the mountain to climb it. There are several trails for hiking Mt. Homan, but the most popular is the standard trail starting from Kamado Shrine. After passing through the Ichino-torii (first shrine gate), you'll find a full-fledged trail with stone steps. The ascent will take about 2 hours, and the descent will be a little quicker, at around 1.5 hours. Although the trails on Mt. Homan are well maintained, there are some steep points, such as "Hyakudan Ganki" (100段ガンキ), a series of 100 steep steps. Please make sure you are fully prepared for the challenge when hiking up the mountain. A breathtaking panoramic view awaits you after you reach the summit. Enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring, autumn leaves in fall, and seasonal flowers along the trail as you climb the mountain. You can also pay a visit to the Jogu (the highest point of the shrine) of Kamado Shrine, which is located at the top. The Autumn Festival at Kamado Shrine and the Best Time to See the Autumn Leaves Photo:Autumn leaves at Kamado Shrine, Fukuoka Prefecture In autumn, Kamado Shrine is enveloped in a vibrant palette of colorful. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Kamado Shrine is usually from early November to early December, with the Autumn Leaves Festival being held at the end of November. The Autumn Leaves Festival usually attracts many visitors, with stalls selling freshly picked vegetables and refreshments, flea markets selling a variety of goods, and even stalls seasonal spirits. The best time to see the autumn leaves at the shrine is at night. The contrast between the blue skies, green trees, and the bright red autumn leaves is different from the atmosphere of the shrine at night, when the autumn leaves are illuminated. Iheya Island, a Remote Island of Okinawa This video, titled "Beautiful Beach of Iheya Island! OKINAWA, JAPAN" (伊平屋島(沖縄離島)の絶景ビーチ前篇!OKINAWA,JAPAN), was uploaded by "K Japan Traveler." It shows spectacular views of Iheya Island (伊平屋島, Iheyajima), Noho Island (野甫島, Nohojima), and Izena Island (伊是名島, Izenajima), which are in northern Okinawa. As you can see in the video, Iheya Island has a beautiful cobalt blue ocean that you would never expect to find in Japan. A Look at Iheya Island Photo:Brown sugar, Okinawa Iheya Island is a long, narrow island located approximately 41 km north of the main island of Motobu, with a population of about 1,400 people including those on Noho Island. The island has specialties, such as dried fish, hitokuchi brown sugar, Terushi Rice, and Kachiwari brown sugar. There's also Kitase Rock, Yahe Rock, and a skerry called Erabu Rock around Iheya Island. "Torazu Rock" is a landmark of the island. You should visit Koshino Hiramatsu, Nento Hiramatsu and Mt. Kuba too. Things To Do on Iheya Island Photo:The ocean at Sugahama, Okinawa We recommend going sightseeing via rental car. The clear beaches, such as Kumaya Coast, Yonezaki Beach, Shioshitahama, and Kubayama Beach are the best place for sea bathing and fishing. From 0:37 in the video, you can see Kouri Island and Kouri Bridge, and from 1:40 in the video, you can see Noho Bridge, Noho Port, and a beautiful view. You can enjoy activities like the salt cruise at the World Salt Exploration Museum. For snorkeling to see coral reefs, book with Diving service North Island or Diving Shop JIN. Access to Iheya Island Photo:The ocean at Iheya Island, Okinawa Unfortunately, it's somewhat difficult to reach Iheya Island. You have to go from Naha Airport, on the main island of Okinawa, to Nakijin, and then take a ferry for 80 minutes. Because of that, there are not so many tourists, which means you can enjoy the natural scenery all to yourself! As you can see from 1:17 in the video, you can enjoy "Iheya Blue," a clear, blue sea, different from the main island of Okinawa. There are several hotels and restaurants on the island, so you can stay overnight as well as take a day trip, and there are buses running around the island, so as long as you check the bus schedules it's not so bad. Introducing Dogashima in Shizuoka Prefecture! This video, "Dogashima - Shizuoka - 堂ヶ島 - 4K Ultra HD" was produced by “TokyoStreetView- Japan The Beautiful.” It introduces beautiful views of Dogashima in Shizuoka prefecture in 4K resolution. Dogashima, located in Nishizu-cho, Kamo-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan's Tokai region, is an area famous for the fishing industry. It is also called the "Matsushima of Izu" for its beautiful scenery. (Matsushima is one of the "Three Views of Japan"). You can enjoy marine sports such as diving, as well as tour famous spots by boat in Dogashima. Dogashima faces Suruga Bay and has beautiful scenic views. Trips like this, where you can explore famous local areas, are growing in popularity. What Kind of Place Is Dogashima? Photo:Dogashima Dogashima was formed by underwater debris flow from ancient eruptions, and from the pumice/volcanic ash layer that fell and piled up on top of that. It is thought that the waves carving away at this geological layer created the steep cliffs and strangely shaped rocks that you can see in the video. Nasu Photo:Mt. Nasu (Mt. Chausu), Tochigi Prefecture Mt. Nasu, the main peak of the Nasu Mountain Range, a volcanic group centering on the five peaks of Nasu, is also called Mt. Chausu, and has been selected as one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. Located in the northwestern part of Nasu, Tochigi, in Japan's Kanto region, Mt. Nasu is 1,915 meters (~6,283 ft.) above sea level. Together with Mt. Asahi to the north, it's a great place to enjoy the autumn colors of mountain maples and azaleas in the fall. Because Mt. Nasu is an active volcano even today, you can smell sulfur in the air around it. The best time to view the autumn leaves is usually from late September to early October, and since there is a ropeway, both beginners and advanced hikers can enjoy them. The area is crowded with hikers who come to see the autumn colors every year. Highlights & Where to See the Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu Photo:Autumn leaves at Ubagadaira, Mt. Nasu (Mt. Chausu), Tochigi Prefecture The highlight of the autumn leaves on Mt. Nasu is the collaboration between the active volcano, Mt Nasu, and the fiery red autumn leaves that can be seen all the way up to the top of the mountain. [Video] 1:33 - Beautiful Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu While the view from the top of the mountain is, of course, spectacular, the panoramic view of the town below and the colorful autumn leaves will take your breath away. Nasu Hiking Trails and What to Wear When Hiking Mt. Nasu in Autumn Photo:The Mt. Nasu Ropeway, Tochigi Prefecture Mt. Nasu is a great mountain for both beginners and experienced hikers alike. There are several hiking trails on Mt. Nasu with varying levels of difficulty, but the course using a ropeway is recommended for beginners. For those interested in hiking Mt. Nasu but feel that they are not ready for the challenge of a full-scale hiking adventure, we recommend using the ropeway. It takes about 50 minutes to reach the top of Mt. Nasu from Nasu Ropeway Station. This is a hiking course where you can casually enjoy climbing the mountain while viewing the autumn leaves. For those looking to hike Mt. Nasu, here are some tips on what to wear and what temperatures to expect when hiking during autumn. From late September to late October, the best time to view the autumn leaves, the temperature is usually around 10°C (50°F). Mornings and evenings are cold and there can be strong winds when you reach the summit, so be sure to wear clothing that is easy to put on and take off, as well as layers of clothing to regulate your body temperature. For shoes, wear hiking boots or other suitable footwear for hiking, and don't forget rain gear as the weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Climbing Mt. Nasu for Beginners – Ropeway Fees, How to Get There, Etc. Photo:Mt. Nasu and the Mt. Nasu Ropeway, Tochigi Prefecture When accessing the trailhead by car, there are three parking lots. Nasu Ropeway parking lot: 175 cars Nasu Toge no Chaya Parking Lot 1 & 2: 167 spaces Daimaru Parking Lot: 160 spaces The round-trip ropeway fee is 1,800 yen for adults (junior high school students and older) and 900 yen for children (Ages 3 to elementary school students). The ropeway recommended for those who are just looking to see the autumn leaves, as they can be seen from the ropeway when they're in season. It takes about 4 minutes to reach the station at the top from Nasu Ropeway Sanroku Station. You'll reach the 9th station of Mt. Nasu in no time. Things To Do Near Mt. Nasu Photo:Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge, Nasu Kogen, Tochigi Prefecture Here are some places of interest that we recommend checking out when visiting Mt. Nasu. Nasu Onsen Mt. Nasu is located right next to Nasu Onsen, and in the nearby onsen town, visitors can enjoy a variety of different hot springs to relax after a day of sightseeing or hiking. The oldest hot spring at Nasu Onsen is Shika no Yu, meaning "Deer Hot Spring." This hot spring is 1,300 years old and is the origin of Nasu Onsen. Its name comes from a legend that the local villagers saw an injured deer limping around, but after falling into the hot spring it miraculously recovered. Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge is a beautiful bridge that stretches across a low valley. In the fall, the surrounding trees change to beautiful shades of yellow and orange and delight the eyes of visitors. The bridge itself is aesthetically pleasing as well, so be sure to take a photo with it when visiting. Besides the two places mentioned above, there are a number of other attractions in the area, including the famous "Killing Stone" located across the bridge. According to legends, the stone was said to hold the spirit of a nine-tailed fox demon that turned into such after being vanquished after attempting to assassinate Emperor Toba (1103-1156). In recent years, the stone suddenly split in half, and can still be seen by visitors. Also in the area are numerous waterfalls, museums, and many more exciting things to see and do. There are also some lovely azalea fields nearby that can be seen blooming in the spring. During autumn, they're known for their wonderful foliage. Summary of Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu Photo:Autumn leaves on Mt. Nasu (Mt. Chausu), Tochigi Prefecture The beautiful autumn leaves against the white smoke and black surface of the mountain make Mt. Nasu a sight that should be on anyone's bucket list. Mt. Nasu is expected to see heavy traffic during the autumn months. When visiting, it's recommended that you check not only the weather forecast, but also how far along the leaves are and how crowded the parking lots are with live cameras. After climbing the mountain, you can stop by an onsen (hot spring) to relax after a long day of hiking. Hot springs can be enjoyed by visitors on even one-day trips at Holiday Village Nasu. In addition to Mt. Nasu, Nikko National Park is home to a variety of scenic locations. If you're visiting Tochigi, be sure to take a moment to appreciate its natural beauty as well! [TripAdvisor] Mt. A Unique Phenomenon Caused by a Pacific Herring Swarm Captured via Drone! The Spawning and Releasing of Sperm by These Fish in Hokkaido Is Like a Giant Milk Spill in the Sea!
Living Things Nature Travel- 90 plays

Pacific Herring Spawning and Swarms: Video Introduction This video, titled "The Sea Turned White?! Drone Footage of a Pacific Herring Swarm!" (海が白くなる!? ニシン群来のドローン撮影に成功!), was uploaded by "Hidemi Imai" (今井秀美). In Obira, Hokkaido, the blue sea is dyed white as if milk has been spilled in it. This phenomenon is caused by herring swarms, which occurs when herring (in this case pacific herring), a fish heralding the arrival of spring in Hokkaido, spawn and fertilize eggs. A video shot from the sky captures the phenomenon that looks like a white sash on the blue sea. Large schools of pacific herring come to Obira to spawn, and you can see the beauty of life as they flop about the surface of the water. Check out the video to see the pacific herring swarm up close! What Kind of Place is Obira? Obira is a small town in western Hokkaido with a population of just a few thousand. It's located a few hours north of Sapporo via train, making it a bit of an out-of-the-way destination, but it's home to many tourist attractions. There are golf courses and surf spots, as well as facilities for learning about the local culture. In addition, there are ski resorts that can be enjoyed during the winter months, and campsites that can be visited during the summer. Obira is a nice destination to check out if you're looking for things to do in Hokkaido that are a bit more off the beaten path. Information about the Pacific Herring and the Causes and Conditions for Swarms in Hokkaido, Japan Photo:Pacific herring spawning The pacific herring (scientific name: clupea pallasii) is a silvery-white fish found mostly in the Pacific Ocean. Pacific herring are generally 30-35 cm (12-13 inches) long but can grow as large as 45 cm (~17.5 inches). Pacific herring feed on phytoplankton and zooplankton, and their natural predators are salmon, whales, seabirds, etc. Every year from February to March, the coast of the Sea of Japan in Hokkaido turns a milky white color. The pacific herring come to the coast in large numbers during spring, so much so, that they are said to herald the arrival of spring in Hokkaido. In the world of haiku, a type of Japanese poetry, the word "Nishin Kuki" (鰊群来, herring coming in large schools) is a seasonal word to symbolize spring. Herring swarms occur when herring come to the coast to spawn and fertilize eggs. The white colors are a phenomenon that occurs when males simultaneously fertilize eggs that have been laid on seaweed. In 1954, after being observed along the coast from Yoichi to Oshoro, a 20km stretch on the peninsula northwest of Sapporo, the pacific herring swarms were not observed again for many years. It wasn't until 1999 that the pacific herring swarms were observed in the area, for the first time in 45 years. In order for the herring swarms to occur, two conditions must be met: the sea must be calm during the herring spawning season, and the water temperature must be relatively high, around 5 degrees Celsius. In addition, the herring swarms seem more likely to occur on cloudy days from February to April. When and Where to See the Pacific Herring Swarms Source :YouTube screenshot The herring swarms are a phenomenon seen during the spawning season, which, for the pacific herring in Japan, is from late January to early May, and February to March is said to be the most active season. In addition, since spawning often takes place at night, the ocean can be seen turning milky white around dawn, disappearing around noon. This means that you have a higher chance of seeing the phenomenon during the morning. The places where herring swarms can be seen are the coasts of Hokkaido along the Sea of Japan and within Ishikari Bay. In Otaru, herring is synonymous with spring. If you want to see the herring swarms, we recommend visiting the Otaru coast from February to March! However, because it's a natural phenomenon, it's not always possible to see the pacific herring swarms, even if you visit at the right time and place. That being said, it's still worth a try to see the incredible sight. Delicious, Seasonal Pacific Herring Recipes! Photo:Nishin soba In Hokkaido, which is famous for herring production, there are various ways to eat delicious seasonal herring. Pacific herring are considered to be in season only in spring, but it's said that they are also in season in autumn. In Japan, pacific herring are processed in many different ways. Some of these are herring roe, kombu-maki (kelp rolls), nuka nishin (herring in rice-bran paste), and migaki nishin (dried and sliced herring). One of the rarest products is frozen herring stuffed with mentaiko (spicy cod roe). Migaki nishin is famous for its use in nishin soba (a bowl of soba topped with a dried herring), a specialty of Kyoto. In addition, we also recommend carpaccio, which is made by cutting the fish into three pieces and pouring a seasoning mixture of lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper over the meat. The herring and pumpkin pie from Ghibli's "Kiki's Delivery Service" is another dish that tastes even better when made with pacific herring caught during season in Hokkaido. If you like cooking, we recommend trying a simple recipe, which requires just some cooked herring, vegetable paste, white sauce, and cheese inside a pie topping, and then baking. Seaweed With Roe From the Pacific Herring Photo:Komochi kombu When herring come to the shallows to spawn in large schools, they lay their eggs on seaweed. Because the eggs are sticky, they tend to adhere to seaweed, such as kombu (edible kelp) and wakame seaweed. Originally, natural seaweeds on which the eggs were laid naturally were harvested, but due to a decrease in catches, there are fewer and fewer of them. Therefore, seaweed is now hung where the pacific herring will pass by to encourage spawning. The result of pickling these seaweeds in salt creates 2 delicious types of seaweed called komochi kombu and komochi wakame. They are often used in festive New Year's dishes in Japan to bring good luck. Summary of Herring Swarms and Spawning in Hokkaido The pacific herring swarms resemble a milky white sash fluttering in the blue sea. The contrast between the blue and white colors allows for some vivid photography as well. It's fascinating to think that this phenomenon occurs when large schools of herring gather to spawn and release their sperm in order to procreate. If you're traveling to Hokkaido in February and March during spring, consider visiting the coast of Otaru. If you're lucky, you may be able to see the herring swarms, a mysterious phenomenon of life. -

Video Introduction This video, titled "Cape Erimo, a Spectacular View of Hokkaido|Short Version|DRONE×HOKKAIDO" (北海道の絶景・襟裳岬ショートバージョン DRONE×HOKKAIDO), was uploaded by "Shinji kawamura." The video features drone footage of Cape Erimo in Hokkaido, Japan. Be sure to check it out to see some of the amazing views that Cape Erimo has to offer! Amazing Views on Cape Erimo Photo:Hatsuhinode on Cape Erimo Many Japanese people have this idea that there's nothing to do on Cape Erimo. But, let's start with some basic information about Cape Erimo. Cape Erimo is located at the southernmost tip of the Hidaka Mountains, known as the backbone of Hokkaido, jutting out into the Pacific Ocean. A scenic tourist destination, Cape Erimo is located in Erimo, in Hokkaido's Horoizumi District. It is also known for its strong winds and the large amount of sea fog that occurs from May to August. The cape is approximately 60 meters tall, and from the tip of the cape, a reef continues for approximately 2 km, offering a magnificent view of nature's beauty. The spectacular view was designated as a national cultural asset, in August 2010, with the name "Meisho Pirikanoka" (meaning "beautiful shape" in the language of the Ainu)." Furthermore, Cape Erimo is also known as a spot for the Japanese tradition "Hatsuhinode" (the first sunrise of the year), and many tourists come to see the majestic sight. Cape Erimo is not a place with nothing, but rather, a popular spot where you can take Instagrammable photos. Cape Erimo - Now a Popular Tourist Spot! Photo:Cape Erimo, Hokkaido In Japan, there's a song called "Cape Erimo" that was sung by Chiyoko Shimakura. Later, in 1974, "Cape Erimo" composed by Takuro Yoshida and sung by Shinichi Mori became a big hit. The phrase in the lyrics, "Erimo no Haru wa nani mo nai Haru desu" (Spring in Erimo is a spring of nothing), left a lasting impression on people. This single phrase of the hit song made it famous as a place offering nothing. However, Cape Erimo is actually a place with loads of natural beauty, as mentioned above. It is now one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Hokkaido, and has become such a famous tourist attraction that people no longer say that Cape Erimo has nothing to offer. Popular Tourist Attractions on Cape Erimo! Photo:Cape Erimo, Hokkaido Let's take a look at the sightseeing spots in Cape Erimo, which has now become famous as one of Hokkaido's most scenic and beautiful sightseeing spots. Cape Erimo is famous for its strong winds, and "Kaze no Yakata," a facility where visitors can experience those winds, opened in 1997. Visitors can experience wind speeds as high as 25 meters per second. As we mentioned previously, Cape Erimo is known for its beautiful sunrises, and the panoramic view of the sunrise from the cape is truly something to marvel at! On New Year's Day, the observatory and observation decks are filled with tourists who come to see the first sunrise of the year. Furthermore, Cape Erimo is also a habitat for wild seals, so you can even try seal watching with binoculars. If you want to see them up close, we recommend joining a seal-watching tour by kayak. Seals give birth in the spring, and if you're lucky, you might be able to spot a mother and her pups. There is also a theater showing videos taken by nature photographer Eiichi Kurasawa, where visitors can learn about the ecology of the harbor seals seen at Cape Erimo. A monument of "Cape Erimo," the song that made Cape Erimo famous, stands side by side with the other monument to the song with same name. This sight of two monuments, for the song of the same name, side by side, is not often seen in other places. Dining Recommendations on Cape Erimo Photo:Whelk sashimi When it comes to dining on Cape Erimo, the fresh seafood is a must. You can enjoy seasonal seafood, such as whelks grown in the rough seas of Cape Erimo. The sushi is also highly recommended. Ginzushi (銀寿し) and Isami Sushi (いさみ寿し) are famous sushi restaurants in the area. Cape Erimo also has a hotel called Erimo Kankokan (えりも観光館) not far from the observatory. It's recommended for those looking to watch the sunrise from the sea in the morning. Summary of Cape Erimo, Hokkaido Did you enjoy this video showing aerial footage of Cape Erimo, a place of natural beauty? The image of Cape Erimo as a place with nothing to offer was generated by the lyrics of a hit song, and it turns out that it is actually a scenic sightseeing spot created by a harsh natural environment.
