The Kadowaki Suspension Bridge in Shizuoka Prefecture! This video, titled "Kadowaki Suspension Bridge – Shizuoka – Full HD" (Kadowaki Suspension Bridge - Shizuoka - 門脇吊橋 - Full HD), was created by "TokyoStreetView – Japan The Beautiful." It introduces the Kadowaki suspension bridge, located in Ito, Shizuoka in the Tokai region of Japan. Popular tourist destinations, such as Atami hot springs and Izu Plateau, can also be found in eastern Shizuoka prefecture. Many tourists visit the Izu area and spend time at one of the many resort hotels to enjoy the various tourist attractions, cafes and hot springs. In this article we'll introduce the Kadowaki suspension bridge, a popular tourist destination in the Izu area. The Kadowaki Suspension Bridge! Photo:Jogasaki Coast・Kadowaki Suspension Bridge As you can see from 6:20 in the video, the Kadowaki suspension bridge hangs from two cliff faces making it a thrilling experience to cross! You can also enjoy a stunning view of Kaiyo Park from the bridge and the surrounding area. The Jogasaki Coast (城ヶ崎海岸, jougasakikaigan) was formed from the lava of an eruption which took place over 4,000 years ago at Mt. Omuro (大室山, oomuroyama), one of the volcanos in the Izu-Tobu volcano range (伊豆東部火山郡, izutoubukazangun). The corrosion caused by the lava created a sea cave known as "Hanshiro otoshi" (半四郎落し). The Kadowaki suspension bridge, which hangs between this sea cave and Kadowaki cape, is 48 meters in length and 23 meters high. The Kadowaki suspension bridge is also referred to as the Jogasaki suspension bridge, as it hangs above the Jogasaki Coast in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park (富士箱根伊豆国立公園, fujihakoneizukokuritsukouen). Other Tourist Spots Around Kadowaki Suspension Bridge Photo:Izu-Jogasaki・Kadowaki Lighthouse You can enjoy a view of Kadowaki lighthouse (門脇灯台, kadowakitoudai), built in 1995, Mt. Amagi (天城連山, amagirenzan), and the islands of the Izu Peninsula (伊豆七島, izushichitou) from the Kadowaki suspension bridge. There is a walking course nearby called "Jogasaki Pikkunikaru Course." It's popular with dog-walkers and hikers. A variety of fish can be caught at the nearby Futo Harbour (富戸漁港, futogyokou) and Uomigoya (魚見小屋, uomigoya). We highly recommend trying some fresh seafood dishes at the nearby restaurant Boranaya (ぼら納屋) as well! There is another bridge with a great view in the Jogasaki Coastal area, called the Hashidate Suspension Bridge (橋立吊橋, hashidatetsuribashi). If you're visiting the area, we recommend crossing both bridges. If you have time to spare, we also highly recommend visiting other popular tourist spots, such as Renchakuji temple (蓮着寺) and Manaita Iwa (俎岩). Summary of the Kadowaki Suspension Bridge Photo:Jogasaki Coast・Kadowaki Suspension Bridge In this video, we introduced the thrilling Kadowaki suspension bridge, hanging between two cliffs! Aogashima Island Near Hachijojima Island, Tokyo Located 358 kms from Tokyo, Aogashima is a unique island with rich natural scenery. Aogashima is an isolated island with a distinctive double caldera topography. The unique shape of Aogashima, which was created by an active volcano, is growing in popularity, both inside and outside of Japan, as this type of landscape cannot be seen in many other places, especially in one so beautiful. In the olden days, the island was forbidden to women, and they say there was a time when it was called "Onga-Shima" (男ヶ島, Onga-Shima), meaning roughly "Man's Island." The island has the smallest population of any village in Japan, and is full of beautiful scenery. Hirosaki Park's Winter Cherry Blossom Illumination: Video Introduction This video, titled "【4K】2022 Hirosaki Park 'Sakura Illumination Blooming in Winter'" (2022年 弘前公園「冬に咲くさくらライトアップ」【4K】 2022 Hirosaki Park 'Sakura Illumination Blooming in Winter), was uploaded by "TheEAGLEBOM." Did you know that you can see cherry blossoms blooming in the snow? We hope you'll enjoy these winter cherry blossoms filmed at night at Hirosaki Park, located in Hirosaki, Aomori, in Japan's Tohoku region. Snow piles up on the cherry blossoms, which are imbued with a light pink hue. It truly looks as though these cherry blossoms are actually in full bloom. The snow gathering on the river's surface is reminiscent of cherry blossoms floating on the surface of the water, and stretches out like a carpet of petals. Keep thoughts of spring in your mind as you enjoy this supremely breathtaking scenery, dyed in a heart-warming pink. [Video] 2:39 – Snow Floating on the Water Like Cherry Blossoms Hirosaki Park and Its Popular Winter Cherry Blossom Illumination Photo:The winter cherry blossoms illumination at Hirosaki Park What exactly are these season-defying winter cherry blossoms? Well, in reality, this winter cherry blossom illumination makes use of the fact that snow accumulated on the branches of cherry trees makes it look like the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. This illumination event takes place during winter at Hirosaki Park, in Hirosaki, Aomori. The inspiration for the event came from a single photo taken by a member of the regional development team. The photo caused a stir on social media, with commenters unable to tell whether it was taken in spring or winter. The event carries with it the feelings of Hirosaki citizens who long to see the warming views of cherry blossoms in the cold of winter. Illuminated in pink in the moat surrounding Hirosaki Park, the subtle coloring almost makes it look as if the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and help onlookers to forget about the cold weather. To see the cherry blossoms, you'll need to arrive the same day the snow settles on the branches. The best days to see the cherry blossoms are on days when it snows heavily and it's not too cold or windy. [Video] 0:53 – What Inspired the Illuminations? What are the duration and hours of the Winter 2023-2024 "Winter Blooming Sakura Light-up"? Photo:Hirosaki Park cherry blossom illumination, Aomori Prefecture From the end of April and throughout Golden Week (a period of around one week at the end of April/beginning of May containing a number of Japanese national holidays), Hirosaki Park hosts the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival" (弘前さくらまつり, hirosaki sakura matsuri), timed to coincide with the cherry blossom season. This cherry blossoms festival at Hirosaki Castle has been touted by some as the best in Japan. The rooftop of Hirosaki City Hall - usually inaccessible to the public - is opened up, and the festival receives over 2 million visitors each year. While the location of the "cherry blossoms heart" popular on Japanese social media is sadly not in the public domain, we hear that there will be heart shaped tree stumps placed to lead you in the right direction. Be sure to keep an eye out for it as you explore the park! What's more, during the cherry blossoms festival there's a special train linking Hirosaki to other famous cherry blossoms spots around Japan's northern Tohoku region. Why not take a ride and go on a tour to view the cherry blossoms? [Cherry blossoms Festival Opening Dates] Late March–Early May (Generally held to coincide with the blooming of the cherry blossoms) [Hours] Special nighttime lighting (illuminations): Sundown – 8:30 p.m. ※Subject to change depending on cherry blossom blooming conditions. The Colorful Autumn Illuminations of Hirosaki Park Are a Must-See as Well! Photo:Hirosaki Park's autumn illumination In the fall, the autumn leaves that have for so long added a touch of color to Hirosaki Castle, the symbol of this ancient Japanese city, are brightly illuminated. The elegant lights, which are as beautiful as any other seasonal light up, are sure to impress. While enjoying the various events and stalls, visitors can catch a glimpse of Hirosaki's history by viewing the old castle in its colorful autumn attire and the autumn leaves adorning the castle walls. [Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Leaves Festival Dates] Late October–Early November [Hours] Sundown – 8:00 p.m. And as the 1000 Japanese maples and 2600 cherry blossom trees take on the colors of fall, make sure you don't forget to check out the giant 300-year-old ginkgo tree, "Neagari Icho" (lit. lifted-root ginkgo, so named for its exposed roots). In addition, there's a chamomile harvesting event in early June each year. When to See the Autumn Leaves at Kyoto's Famous Temples Photo:Autumn in Kyoto, Japan Kyoto is known for having many tourist attractions where you can view the beautiful autumn leaves, and its many temples are some of the best places to do just that. However, since the best time to view the leaves differs from area to area, it's a good idea to check in advance before visiting a temple. In this issue, we will introduce the highlights of the six autumn foliage spots featured in the video, as well as the best time to view the autumn leaves. Breathtaking Autumn Foliage at Kiyomizudera Photo:Autumn Leaves at Kiyomizudera, Kyoto, Japan Kiyomizudera is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kyoto, Japan. The autumn leaves begin to appear on the temple grounds around mid-November, and the best time to view the autumn leaves is from late November to early December. The sight of approximately 1,000 maples in various shades of red, orange, and yellow is simply stunning. During the peak of the season, many people from both around Japan and abroad visit Kiyomizudera to enjoy the magnificent autumn leaves. Kiyomizudera has a special nighttime viewing and illumination event when the autumn foliage is at its best as well. Unlike the brightly colored leaves illuminated by the sun, the orange glow of the illuminated leaves creates a fantastic atmosphere on the temple grounds at night. You can enjoy also view the autumn leaves from different perspectives depending on where at the temple you view the from. The combination of the autumn leaves with the large platform at Kiyomizudera and the three-storied pagoda is sure to make for some excellent photography that will trend on Instagram. [Video] 6:35 - Kiyomizudera Tofukuji Temple – Autumn Leaves at the Popular Temple in Kyoto Photo:Autumn leaves at Tofukuji Temple, Kyoto, Japan Tofukuji Temple is a temple that regularly ranks among the best places for viewing autumn leaves in Kyoto. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Tofukuji Temple is from mid-November to early December, and on November 23, which is Labor Thanksgiving Day each year in Japan. Many tourists visit in the fall to see the autumn leaves, and the temple can be quite crowded when the illumination is taking place. If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting early in the morning on a weekday. The main attraction of Tofukuji Temple is Tsutenkyo Bridge that connects the main hall and Kaisando Hall. Underneath the bridge is a colorful valley called Sengyokukan, and the spectacular view created by the historic architecture and the magnificent carpet of autumn leaves is beautiful beyond words. The autumn leaves at Gaunkyo Bridge, which resemble a sea of clouds, and Hojo Teien, a garden with a checkered pattern, are 2 must-see attractions. [Video] 5:01 - Tofukuji Temple A Must-See Autumn Illumination at Eikando Temple Photo:Eikando Temple, Kyoto, Japan Eikando Temple, one of the many famous places for autumn leaves in Kyoto, is in fact so famous for its autumn leaves, that a poem was written about it in the Kokin Wakashu, a collection of early waka poetry dating back more than 1,000 years. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Eikando Temple is during the short period from mid-late November. The highlight of Eikando Temple is the fantastic sight of the colorful leaves enveloping a pagoda, which is located at the highest point of the temple's grounds. Approximately 3,000 maple trees decorate the pond garden and the pagoda, creating lovely views around the area. Don't miss the illumination and exhibition events that take place in autumn as well. The events allow visitors to appreciate valuable temple treasures that are designated as Important Cultural Heritages, and that are not usually available for viewing. We recommend taking an evening stroll through the illuminated precincts of the temple, Amida Hall, and the garden. The exhibition and the illumination events have different entrance times and a separate entrance fee is charged for each. [Video] 3:24 - Eikando Temple Rurikoin Temple – A Reflection of Autumn Leaves on the Floor Photo:Rurikoin Temple, Kyoto, Japan The autumn leaves at Rurikoin Temple have been attracting a great deal of attention in recent years, especially on social media. The highlight of Rurikoin Temple is the popular sight of the autumn leaves filling the windows on the second floor of the shoin (study) and the reflection of the autumn leaves on the floors. Photos of the autumn leaves here have gone viral on social media, and Rurikoin has become one of Kyoto's most popular places to view the autumn leaves. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Rurikoin Temple is from late November to early December. The period from November 1 to December 4 is a pre-reservation viewing period, so reservations must be made on or after October 10 through Rurikoin's official website. Since the number of visitors is limited by advance reservation, visitors can enjoy the autumn leaves at their leisure. [Video] 9:14 - Rurikoin Temple Hogon-in Temple – A Hidden Gem in Kyoto Photo:Hogon-in Temple's autumn illumination Hogon-in Temple is one of the pagoda temples of Tenryuji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Arashiyama, Kyoto, and is open to the public only on special occasions in the spring and fall. The highlight of Hogon-in Temple is Shishiku Garden (lit. "Lion's Roar Garden"), a popular spot for photography. In the spring, it's a great place to enjoy the fresh greenery of the maple trees. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Hogon-in Temple is from mid-November to early December. A special autumn viewing and a nighttime illumination is held in conjunction with this period. Hiei, Shiga, Japan Mt. Hiei, which straddles the border between Shiga and Kyoto prefectures, is home to Enryakuji Temple, the head temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, and the entire mountain is designated as a temple area. The autumn leaves on Mt. Hiei begin to appear around mid-October, a little earlier than places at lower elevations, and the best time to view them is from late October to mid-November. Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei is the collective name for three areas: To-do (the eastern pagoda), Sai-to (the western pagoda), and Yokawa. All areas offer spectacular views, but the To-do area is particularly popular. This area is known as the birthplace of Enryakuji Temple, where the Buddhist monk Saicho founded Enryakuji Temple, and Konpon Chu-do, the main hall of the temple, is designated as a National Treasure. The view from the high elevation of Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei and the peaceful mountain atmosphere are unparalleled. [Video] 11:43 - Mt. It's a 2-km-long bridge connecting Yagaji Island and Kouri Island, and when it opened in 2005, it was the longest free bridge over a remote island in Japan. The blue ocean seen from Kouri Ohashi Bridge is beautiful and has been the setting for commercials, TV dramas, and movies in Japan. There is also a unique rock formation near the bridge that looks like a shisa facing to the side. Around Kouri Ohashi Bridge, there are several observatories from which you can view the bridge itself. In the video, you can see the view from the Unten Observation Deck and from the observatory in Unten Forest Park. [Video] 0:04 - Kouri Ohashi Bridge Kouri Island, also known as Kuijima (恋島) in Japanese, making it a popular power spot for couples, as the nickname literally means 'Love Island' in Japanese. With blue skies, crystal clear waters, and several beautiful beaches, it's a popular tourist spot. Kouri Island is also known as the "Island of Love" or "Island of Gods" based on a legend of the Okinawan version of "Adam and Eve," making Tinu Beach's Heart Rock a must-see tourist attraction. Heart Rock – A Famous Power Spot on Kouri Island's Tinu Beach Photo:Heart Rock, Kouri Island, Okinawa [Video] 9:12 - Heart Rock As the name suggests, this spot is popular for its heart-shaped rock, which is popular for photography. Heart Rock became popular after it was used in a Japanese airline commercial. It's famous for two rocks that overlap and look like a heart, but it's also popular for the upside-down heart that forms between two overlapping rocks. It is said that seeing Heart Rock will make one's love come true, making it a popular destination for couples. If you're planning to visit Heart Rock, we recommend going by car. From Naha Airport, take Naha Nishi Road (那覇西道路) and get on the Okinawa Expressway (沖縄自動車道) (toll-free) from the Nishihara IC (西原IC). Exit at the Kyoda IC (許田IC), the final stop on the way to Nago, and drive to Kouri Island via Yagaji Island while seeing the beautiful view from Kouri Ohashi Bridge. Both free parking lots and paid parking can be found around Tinu Beach. Kouri Island can be reached in about an hour and a half from Naha Airport. The scenery on the way to the island is beautiful, so time will pass quickly. We recommend checking high and low tide times in advance. Beautiful Beaches to Visit on Kouri Island Photo:Plums on Kouri Island Kouri Island has other beautiful beaches in addition to Tinu Beach. ・Kouri Beach Kouri Beach is a beautiful, sandy white beach with shallow waters near Kouri Ohashi Bridge. It's dotted with fashionable cafes and is popular with families with small children. [Video] 3:55 - Kouri Beach ・Tokei Beach Tokei Beach, located at the northernmost tip of the island on the other side of Kouri Ohashi Bridge, is a quiet and beautiful natural beach. It can be reached by walking along a grassy path. The water is crystal clear, and swimming is possible outside of low tide. It is small but quiet, and you can enjoy the atmosphere of a semi-private beach here. ・Peace Beach Like Tokei Beach, this is also a secluded beach. After passing through a small forest-like pathway, the view opens up to reveal the beautiful ocean. At low tide, you can walk to the outer reef. When swimming, be careful as the water may be deep in some places. Tokei Beach and Peace Beach, are two secluded beaches located side by side on the north side of Kouri Island. Must Try Foods on Kouri Island! If you're looking to try the local cuisine, Kouri Island is known for its delicious seafood. One dish you've got to try is the sea urchin donburi (uni-don) at Shirasa Shokudo. The uni-don set meal, which comes with a large helping of fresh sea urchins caught on Kouri Island, is reasonably priced at 2,000 yen! Shirasa Shokudo also offers overnight accommodations. The garlic shrimp at KOURI SHRIMP, where you can enjoy Hawaiian-style snacks, is also very popular and they even offer take out as well. We also recommend checking out local cafes where you can enjoy gourmet food while taking in the spectacular views! Cafe Fukurubi, not far from Tinu Beach, where Heart Rock is located, is also a great place where you can enter even in a swim suit. Lunch on the terrace while feeling the ocean breeze at this stylish and fashionable café makes for a wonderful experience. Be sure to take a photo with the ocean in the backdrop during your visit. It's popular on Instagram for being photogenic! Summary of Kouri Island, Okinawa Photo:Heart Rock, Kouri Island, Okinawa Kouri Island is so small that it can be circled in about 10 minutes by car. Also known as 'Love Island,' the island has a legend an Okinawan version of "Adam and Eve," and is visited by couples from all over Japan. Another interesting feature is that the shape of Heart Rock changes depending on the angle from which you view it. Be sure to try viewing it from different angles! Snorkeling and other marine activities can be enjoyed in the beautiful waters of Kouri Island, but since the island is crowded during tourist season, we recommend making reservations in advance. Also, the view from the Unten Observatory and Kouri Ocean Tower, which opened in 2013, is a must-see. Be sure to stop by. Even if you're staying at a hotel on the main island of Okinawa, you can easily visit the island via car. If you want to see the nature and waters of Kouri Island, or if you want to try delicious sea urchin bowls or garlic shrimp, definitely check it out! If you still haven't yet, be sure to check out the video as it gives you a good idea of what you can expect on the island. 【TripAdvisor】Kouri Island https://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g14139570-Kouri_jima_Nakijin_son_Kunigami_gun_Okinawa_Prefecture-Vacations.html -

Mt. Yoshino in Nara Prefecture – Experience a Panoramic View of 30,000 Beautiful Cherry Blossoms at One of the Most Famous Cherry Blossom Viewing Locations in Japan
Travel Nature- 109 plays
- YouTube
The Breathtaking Cherry Blossoms of Mt. Yoshino This video, titled "Yoshino Cherry Blossoms 吉野山の桜 [8K]," was uploaded by "Japan Explorers." Enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms of Mt. Yoshino in high-quality 8K video, that truly captures the scenery of Japan. Mt. Yoshino, introduced in the video, is a generic name for the ridge of mountains leading from the south bank of the Yoshino River to the Omine Mountain Range in the town of Yoshino in Yoshino County, Nara Prefecture, located in Japan's Kansai region. There is also a theory that it is the name of a wide area dotted with temples and shrines, centering on Kinpusenji Temple. The area around Mt. Yoshino is said to be a famous place for flowers, not just their famous cherry blossoms, and there are even records that tell of Toyotomi Hideyoshi visiting for cherry blossom viewing. From 1:29 in the video, you can see the beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom in front of the main hall of Kinpusenji Temple (Zao Hall), a World Heritage Site. Yoshinoyama is usually at its best from early to mid-April; in 2023, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom from March 30 to April 3, earlier than usual. Why not check the blooming status and visit this spring? When is the best time to view the cherry blossoms at Yoshinoyama? Why is it called the best cherry blossom viewing spot in Japan? Photo:The Senbonzakura of Mt. Yoshino, Yoshino, Nara There are many famous places for cherry blossom viewing in Japan, and all of them have splendid views of cherry blossoms worthy of a title, but there's a good reason why the cherry blossoms of Mt. Yoshino are said to be "the best in Japan." The vocaloid masterpiece "Senbonzakura" (千本桜, lit. One Thousand Cherry Blossoms) is said to have been inspired by the thousand cherry blossoms of Mt. Yoshino. Moreover, from the beginning to the end of April, the cherry blossoms bloom up the mountain in ascending order starting with the thousand at the foot of the mountain, followed by the thousand of the middle section, the thousand at the peak of the mountain, and finally the thousand in the deeper reaches of the mountain. In other words, it can be said that Mt. Yoshino is worthy of the title "No. 1 in Japan" simply because it allows for cherry blossom viewing for an entire month. Yoshino-Kumano National Park, which includes Mt. Yoshino, is designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty and a historic site, and Mt. Yoshino is also included in the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Naturally, it has also been selected as one of the " Top 100 Places to View Cherry Blossoms in Japan." The History of Mt. Yoshino, the Most Famous Place to View Cherry Blossoms in Japan Photo:The Yoshino Ropeway, Yoshino, Nara The history of cherry blossoms on Mt. Yoshino dates back more than a thousand years with documents mentioning the cherry blossoms of Mt. Yoshino as far back as the Heian period (794-1185). Since the Yoshino Cherry, which bears the name "Yoshino," is an ornamental cherry tree that was refined during the Edo period (1603-1868 A.D.), there are many more varieties planted on Mt. Yoshino, and it is said that there are approximately 30,000 of them covering the entirety of the mountain. The reason why Mt. Yoshino became a famous place for cherry blossoms is that cherry blossoms were considered to be the sacred tree of Zao Gongen, a mountain deity of Shugendo, an ancient religion in Japan. It is said that En no Ozuno, considered the founder of Shugendo, practiced asceticism on Mt. Kinpu and attained enlightenment through the manifestation of the bodhisattva Zao Gongen. At that time, they carved a statue of the bodhisattva Zao Gongen out of a cherry tree and worshipped it, and it became a custom for mountain ascetics in the past to carve a statue of Zao Gongen out of a cherry tree on Mt. Yoshino. As a result, cherry trees were planted all over the mountain, and it became a popular topic of conversation among commoners as a place where they could view thousands of splendid cherry blossoms in one location, making it the most famous cherry blossom viewing location in Japan. Furthermore, the Yoshino Ropeway, the oldest ropeway in Japan, is another must-see location for cherry blossom viewing. It was founded in 1929 and has a history of more than 90 years. The pillars, built in 1928 when the ropeway opened, are in use even now, showcasing the high-level Japanese architectural technology, even at that time. The Recommended Route for Cherry Blossom Viewing on Mt. Yoshino Photo:Senbonzakura seen from the Hanayagura Observatory, Yoshino, Nara Mt. Yoshino is a place for leisurely enjoyment that can be enjoyed throughout all of Japan's four seasons. You can enjoy not only the cherry blossom season, but also autumn leaves, early summer hydrangeas, snowy winter scenery, the hot springs of Yoshino, temples and shrines, and even quiet places to go for a walk through the forests of Yoshino. In particular, the recommended route for viewing the cherry blossoms is from Yoshino Station to Saigyoan. On the way you'll see: ・Kumoi-no-Sakura (雲井の桜) ・Takizakura (滝桜) ・Nunobiki-no-Sakura (布引の桜) ・Tennin-no-Sakura (天人桜) ・Yumemizakura (夢見桜) ・Goshozakura (御所桜) ・Arashiyama-no-Sakura (嵐山の桜) ・Sekiyazakura (関屋桜) ・Yonhonzakura (四本桜) ・Senbonzakura (千本桜) ・Hanazonosan-no-Sakura (花園山の桜) These are the famous places you can stop by where many wild cherry trees can be seen in full bloom. In addition, the views from Hanayagura Observatory and Shimosenbon Observatory at an elevation of about 600m, showcase a panoramic view of 30,000 cherry blossoms of around 200 different species! When they're in full bloom, they're lit up and you can enjoy spectacular views of cherry blossoms at night. Since Mt. Yoshino covers a large area, it's also recommended as a driving course for private vehicles, rental cars, and buses. Summary of Mt. Yoshino, the Most Famous Place to View Cherry Blossoms in Japan In this article, we introduced some of the history and highlights of Mt. Yoshino alongside the video showcasing the cherry blossoms in full bloom. We hope you enjoyed it! There are many other attractions around Mt. Yoshino, such as Zao Hall, and Yoshimizu Shrine, both World Heritage Sites. Also, since it was originally a sacred place for Shugendo, there are plenty of accommodation facilities, such as Sakuramotobou (桜本坊) that were originally for mountain ascetics. Please check the official website of the Mt. Yoshino Tourism Association for directions to Mt. Yoshino, parking information, bloom forecasts, and more. Sightseeing in Otsu, Shiga: Video Introduction This video shows a man traveling from Otsu, Shiga to Kyoto, while touring historic temples, enjoying natural scenery, and interacting with locals on an atmospheric shopping street. Otsu is home to Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan, and Biwako Valley, a resort complex that offers panoramic views of Lake Biwa from 1,100-meters in the air. It's a treasure trove of tourist attractions, with everything from nature to photogenic townscapes that capture the long history of the area, and can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Enryakuji and Other Famous Temples Around Otsu, Shiga Photo:Enryakuji Temple, Mt. Hiei, Shiga Prefecture Besides Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei (Mt. Hiezan), the Lake Biwa area is dotted with many famous and historic temples. In addition to Enryakuji Temple, we recommend visiting Omi Shrine (近江神宮, Omi Jingu), Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine, and other power spots as well. [Video] 0:14 - Walking the Nyoi Kodo to Miidera Temple ●Enryakuji Temple Enryakuji Temple is the head temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism with a history dating back more than 1,200 years. It's said that monks and warrior monks have been coming here to study since ancient times, and the temple has produced famous monks, including as Honen and Shinran. It's a recommended power spot where visitors can experience a moment of clarity and confidence. ●Miidera Temple One of the most famous of Shiga Prefecture's ancient temples. It's also known for its beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. Climbing the stone steps, there's an observatory from which you can view the majestic Lake Biwa. The spacious temple grounds are home to many national treasures and stone walls using a unique type of masonry. Many of Japan's most notable cultural assets can be found here. ●Saikyoji Temple The head temple of the Tendai Shinmori Sect of Buddhism, which has more than 450 branch temples throughout Japan. It's said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku. The main hall of the temple is sublime, and the Kyakuden (reception hall), which was built from the remains of Fushimi Castle, has many attractions, including fusuma paintings of by the Kano school, a famous school of painting prominent in 15th century Japan. Akechi Mitsuhide, who contributed to the restoration of Saikyoji Temple after it suffered damage during the Siege of Mt. Hiei in 1571, is enshrined at Saikyoji Temple, along with the tombs of his relatives. Photo:Omi Shrine, Shiga Prefecture ●Omi Shrine Omi Shrine is dedicated to Emperor Tenchi, who is said to be the founder of the Hyakunin Isshu Karuta, an ancient card game involving classical Japanese poetry, and attracts many visitors each year. The shrine is said to bring prosperity to business, ward off bad luck, ensure safe childbirth, bring academic success, protect one's family, cure illnesses, and protect against traffic accidents, among other blessings. Surrounded by greenery, the main approach to the shrine is a soothing space. ●Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine Located at the foot of Mt. Hiei, this is the head shrine of the Hiyoshi, Hie, and Sanno shrines, of which more than 3,800 exist in Japan. Since the shrine was located in an unlucky direction from the capital during the Heian period (794-1185), it's known for its blessings to ward off bad luck and evil spirits. A monkey named Masaru is said to be a messenger of the gods at the shrine, and symbolizes protection against evil, and charms and amulets with Masaru are also sold at the shrine. Be sure to check out the video to see some of the breathtaking cherry blossoms spots in Tokyo. What is Hanami? An Introduction to Japan's Cherry Blossom Viewing Culture Before we introduce the best cherry blossoms spots in Tokyo, it is important to understand what Hanami is. Hanami (花見, lit. 'Flower viewing'), is the Japanese tradition of viewing the cherry blossoms (or 'sakura' (桜) as they're called in Japanese). Every year during spring in Japan, the cherry blossoms bloom and people flock to parks or other popular spots where they can enjoy relaxing beneath the beautiful flowers with friends while barbecuing, sipping on plum wine, and enjoying other snacks, such as sakura mochi (a cherry blossom leaf wrapped around a pink rice cake with red bean paste at its center), dango (Japanese dumplings), onigiri (rice balls), etc. The origins of hanami can be traced back more than 1,000 years, and was an event originally enjoyed by aristocrats. In addition, rather than cherry blossoms, plum blossoms were the flower of choice. Later, as the event became more of a tradition, cherry blossoms became the flower of choice, and even some famous Japanese warlords were known to host large hanami events. Spring in Tokyo: Weather, Dates, & What to Wear Spring in Japan is from March to May, with southern Japan seeing warmer weather earlier than the northern prefectures. In general, Tokyo sees temperatures around 40-75° F depending on the month. Tokyo also sees a decent amount of rainfall during spring. With this information in mind, we recommend the following: March (~40-60° F/~5-15° C) During March, the weather is still quite chilly as Tokyo has only just left winter. Even if the weather is nice during the day, it can still get quite cold at night and in the morning, so if you are looking to do some early morning exploring or late-night adventuring, it is especially important to bring a warm jacket, gloves, scarves etc., to help you stay warm, but be sure to bring some lighter clothes as well for the occasional sunny days. April (~50-70° F/~10-20° C) April sees slightly warmer weather than March, but just like March, the mornings and evenings can get quite cold. For April, we recommend bringing a slightly lighter jacket but still packing gloves, just in case. May (~55-75° F/~15-24° C) As spring draws to an end, May sees much warmer temperatures, with the average going up to around 65° F (18° C). Mornings and evenings might be a bit chilly, but in general you will be fine with a light jacket and will not require gloves, scarves, etc. Be sure to bring t-shirts and shorts as well to enjoy the warmer weather on sunnier days. As the rain can be unpredictable, we recommend bringing some light rain gear for when it does rain. Japan's rainy season also begins around the end of May/beginning of June as well, so if you are traveling around this time, it is a good idea to have an umbrella handy. Packing one in a suitcase can be a pain, so we recommend purchasing one in Japan. Umbrellas can be purchased at many convenience stores in Japan for just ¥300-500 (~$2-4 USD) as well. When is the cherry blossom in Tokyo in 2024 in full bloom?Explanation of cherry blossom viewing season and forecast of flowering Photo:Cherry blossoms It depends on the climate of the year, but the cherry blossom season in Tokyo usually blooms around the end of March, so if you want to visit a famous cherry blossom spot in Tokyo, why don't you plan it around the end of March? In addition, cherry trees such as the Someiyoshino, one of the most common types of cherry blossoms in Japan, are usually in full bloom from around the end of March to the beginning of April. The flowering date in 2024 is expected to be March 23rd and March 30th, when it will be in full bloom. Cherry blossoms in Tokyo bloom at different times depending on the variety. There are both early-blooming and late-blooming varieties of cherry blossoms, which allow them to be enjoyed over a long period of time. Early-blooming cherry trees are found along the Oyokogawa River in Kiba Park, while late-blooming cherry trees are found in Jindai Botanical Gardens, Kiyosumi Park, and Lake Okutama, which is a short walk from Tokyo. Shinjuku Gyoen (Shinjuku National Garden), with its many varieties of cherry blossoms, is home to both early- and late-blooming cherry blossoms. Tokyo offers visitors the opportunity to fully enjoy spring in Japan, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom from February to April. 20 of the Top Cherry Blossom Spots in Tokyo – Cherry Blossom Festivals & More! The cherry blossom garden and the weeping cherry blossoms around it are especially popular for their beauty. The park is also home to the original "Jindai Akebono," a variety of cherry tree that originated in Jindai Botanical Gardens, making it a hidden gem of a cherry blossom spot. During Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival), held when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, crowds can be expected during the daytime. For a quieter hanami experience, it is recommended that you visit early in the morning or in the evening. This also allows you to enjoy the cherry blossoms at a slightly cooler time of the day. YouTube Avoid the Crowds with These Hidden Gem Cherry Blossom Spots in Tokyo! Next, we will introduce 2 lesser-known cherry blossoms spots in Tokyo that are every bit as beautiful as the spots listed above. Photo:The weeping cherry tree at Joenji Temple, Shinjuku, Tokyo ● Joenji Temple Joenji Temple is located in Nishi-Shinjuku, a district lined with skyscrapers. Its weeping cherry tree was once counted as one of the "Edo Sanki" (Three Great Trees of Edo) and as one of the Top 100 Cherry Blossoms of Edo, along with the cherry trees at Denzuin Temple and Korinji Temple in Hiroo. The magnificent weeping cherry tree blooms gorgeously amidst the buildings of the big city, making those who see it forget about the stresses of daily life in the Tokyo metropolis. At night, the garden is illuminated, creating a spectacle where the past and the present coexist. ● Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens was established in the Edo period (1603-1868 A.D.) with the cooperation of prominent figures of the time. It was opened as a privately operated flower garden for the purpose of viewing flowers and plants. There are many varieties of cherry trees here, allowing visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms over a long period of time, as Hikanzakura and Someiyoshino cherries begin blooming in late February, and fugenzou cherries bloom in late April. Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens is also known for its plum blossoms, and in late February, visitors can enjoy both plum blossoms and cherry blossoms at the same time. Keep in mind that an admission fee is required to enter Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens. The fee is 150 yen for adults, 70 yen for seniors (65+), and free for elementary school students and younger and junior high school students who live or attend school in Tokyo. Adding Tokyo Cherry Blossoms to Your Itinerary: Enjoy Hanami and Other Tourist Attractions Together Because the goal of travel and sightseeing is to have fun and see new sights, it can be tempting to want to visit as many places as possible. However, trying to fit too many places into an itinerary often leaves people exhausted and even frustrated if they are unable to visit all the places they had in mind. To avoid this, it is important to set aside ample time to enjoy each place you visit. There is no point in trying to hit every cherry blossom spot in Tokyo if you cannot spend the time to enjoy them. Our recommendation to avoid this is to choose cherry blossom spots that place you near tourist attractions that you plan on visiting. For example, a popular spot is the Meguro River Cherry Blossom Promenade which takes walkers close to Shibuya Scramble, Tokyo's famous crosswalk. Another popular hanami spot is Ueno Park, which is located relatively close to Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. Mori Garden, located in Roppongi Hills, is another popular cherry blossom spot in Tokyo which is home to many different shops and cafes, and it is also somewhat close to Tokyo Tower as well. Tokyo Station is a hub in the dead center of all of Tokyo's major attractions, with lines that can take you to take you to pretty much any place in Tokyo with relative ease. If you are not familiar with Tokyo's train system, consider using it as a hub to get from point A to point B. Picking up some snacks and drinks at a convenience store and enjoying hanami under the cherry blossoms at a park is something that can honestly be enjoyed for an entire day, so it is totally fine to spend a few hours doing just that. Just be sure to keep the rules of each spot in mind, as eating and drinking may not be allowed at some locations. Tokyo Cherry Blossom Summary Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is a metropolis of skyscrapers, yet there are still many more cherry blossom spots than what we have introduced here. Two examples are Tokyo Midtown, which has 103 cherry trees, mostly Someiyoshino, and is also lit up, and Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa, which has 210 cherry trees of 17 varieties. If you visit Tokyo in the spring, consider staying the night at this cherry blossom hotel! Cherry blossoms are a springtime tradition in Japan, and there are many great cherry blossom spots where you can take photos for Instagram, etc. in Tokyo. Tokyo is also the only place in the world where you can take pictures of modern buildings and cherry blossoms together! We hope you this list of cherry blossom spots in Tokyo will help you build your itinerary for the 2023 cherry blossom season. You are sure to find something amazing! -

'Flower Viewing') is the Japanese tradition of cherry blossom viewing. While the word "hanami" is made up of the characters "花" (Hana, 'Flower') and "見" (Mi, 'See'/'View'), in modern-day Japan, it refers to viewing sakura (桜) or "cherry blossoms." During the spring, when the cherry blossoms bloom, there are festivals and events held to welcome the arrival of spring and appreciate the ephemeral beauty of the cherry blossoms. Hanami parties are often held at parks and other places where the cherry blossoms are blooming, in the form of picnics and barbecues, with tarps laid under the trees for participants to sit on. Many people buy snacks like onigiri (rice balls) and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) from nearby convenience stores and supermarkets for hanami parties, as well as other dishes like sushi and dango (Japanese dumplings made from rice flour). Hanami festivals often take place in parks and feature lanterns hanging between the trees, as well as a variety of food stalls selling things like yakitori (chicken skewers), yakisoba, crepes, etc. There may also be music and other performances as well, but this will vary with each event. Because spring is over a span of 3 months, despite it technically being spring, the temperatures can change drastically. Below are the average temperatures for Kyoto during spring in 2022: March: 10.5°C (50.9°F) April: 16.5°C (61.7°F) May: 19.7°C (67.5°F) Based on this information our recommendations for what to wear are as follows: Kyoto March Clothing: As spring has only arrived in name, the first half of March in Kyoto can be quite cold. Because of this, we recommend bringing a warm jacket, as well as gloves and knit hats if you're visiting during this period. Towards the middle of March, the temperature will start to increase and you'll likely be okay with lighter sweaters and coats and will no longer need gloves and caps. Those looking to wears dresses and shirts should be sure to wear thicker tights. Kyoto April Clothing: April in Kyoto is quite a bit warmer than March and you will likely be fine with light jackets, windbreakers, and sweaters. As the temperature is much more variable in April, it's a good idea to have a decent mix of both heavier and lighter clothing. Kyoto May Clothing: Kyoto is much warmer in May and you'll likely no longer need a jacket at all. With an average temperature nearing the 20s (70°F), you'll likely be wearing a t-shirt and shorts most of the time, but on colder days, especially during the morning and evening, it can cool down quite a bit, so it's a good idea to have some long-sleeve shirts as well. Hanami Manners to Observe for a Pleasant Cherry Blossom Viewing Experience Hanami parties are a great way to enjoy the cherry blossoms and spring weather, but there are a few manners to keep in mind so that both you, and everyone around you, can have a nice time. 1. Don't Touch the Cherry Blossoms The cherry blossoms are very beautiful and it can be tempting to want to touch them, whether it be for a photo or just to feel the petals. That being said, the cherry blossom are also very fragile and you can easily end up knocking the petals off of the flowers or even worse, breaking a branch on one of the trees. This can ruin the hanami experience for everyone in the area, so it's best to avoid touching them altogether. 2. Drink in Moderation and Be Mindful of Others Hanami parties often features alcohol, such as beer or plum wine, and while it's completely fine to consume these, it's also important to know your limit. You don't want to end up drinking too much and bothering the people around you by being loud, falling over, or worst case, throwing up. If you plan on drinking, be sure to take it slow; you'll likely be enjoying the blossoms over the course of a couple hours anyways. Additionally, even if you don't plan on drinking, do your best to be considerate of others and avoid talking and playing music loudly. 3. Properly Dispose of Trash While most parks have large trash areas for dumping garbage, this is not always the case. Be sure to check ahead of time if the hanami spot you're going to has garbage areas, and if not, take some garbage bags with you so you can take your garbage home and dispose of it properly. The most important thing is to not litter in the park, as this spoils the views, and makes the space less enjoyable for cherry blossom viewing. In addition to these manners, each park will have its own rules, and it's important to abide by them. Some parks might not allow barbecuing, while others may not allow alcohol or pets. Abiding by the rules and manners will ensure that everyone will have a delightful hanami party!
