Marigold Dyeing
On an unspecified day in March, a wood-learning activity for preschoolers included a dyeing experience.
As the marigolds simmered, the clear water gradually took on color.
The children twisted bottle caps into the fabric and tied them tightly with rubber bands.
They then dropped the mysteriously shaped bundles of cloth into the pot one after another.
After some time, they took the cloth out of the pot and dipped it into a liquid with “magic powder” dissolved in it…
The cloth came out dyed a gentle yellow.
The marks from the caps and rubber bands formed pleasing patterns, creating original dyed fabric.
