Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture is registered as a World Heritage Site.
This region is one of the snowiest countries in the Japan, with 100 gassho-zukuri buildings of various sizes lined up, and is a secluded area that is blocked by thick snow in winter.
The characteristic shape of the gassho-zukuri roof is called the gabled thatched roof, and the thatched private house is loved as a landmark of Shirakawa-go.
There are plenty of sightseeing spots in the vicinity. Popular attractions include Hirase Onsen, autumn leaves, collecting red seals of Myozenji Temple, the Doburoku Festival, and the lion dance.
