Don't forget to take your camera so you can take some awesome pictures for Instagram! More About Tokashiki Island, Okinawa Photo:Tokashiki Island, Okinawa Tokashiki Island is an attractive island located roughly 40 kilometers west of Naha City (那覇市, Naha-Shi), Okinawa Prefecture. It takes only 35 minutes to get to via high-speed vessel and 75 minutes to get to via ferry from the city. The village of Tokashiki (渡嘉敷村, Tokashiki-Son), Shimajiri District (島尻郡, Shimajiri-Gun), consisting of ten islands within the Kerama Islands (慶良間諸島, Kerama-Shoto), is the largest of the islands, with a population of approximately 730 people. The waters of the Kerama Islands, known as the "Kerama Blue," are highly regarded both in Japan and abroad and are visited by 130,000 tourists and divers a year. In 2014, it was designated as Kerama Islands National Park. Tokashiki Island Has a Full Range of Marine Shops. Experience the "Kerama Blue" With a Personalized Plan! Photo:Diving, Okinawa One of the most popular leisure activities on Tokashiki Island is water sports. Tokashiki Island has a number of marine shops, and one of the best is called "SeaFriend." They offer a lot of options, like snorkeling for ages 6+, as well as advanced scuba diving to obtain a license. You can also enjoy banana boat rides during the summer. On top of that, SeaFriend also has accommodations for overnight stays. There are log-cabin type and guesthouse type buildings, and Wi-Fi services are available in both. The overnight stay and scuba diving plan is especially popular. Many guests come here alone to get their scuba diving certification. They're also happy to answer questions regarding diving points. Attractive Sights and Delicious Food on Tokashiki Island! Photo:Sea turtle We highly recommend exploring Tokashiki Island after scuba diving, as it's full of exciting tourist attractions. Tokashiki Port is known as the gateway to Tokashiki Island. Aharen Beach, a 10-minute bus ride from the port, is one of the most popular beaches on Tokashiki Island. The sunset viewed from the Aharen Observatory is a beautiful sight that will take your breath away. Hanari Island, near the beach, contributes to the spectacular view. Tokashiku Beach is also famous for its sea turtles. Since there is no bus service, we recommend a rental car. Mt. Akama, the highest point on Tokashiki Island, has the remains of a fire beacon used by the Ryukyu government as a means of communication during the Edo Period (1603-1868 A.D.). The summit has a great view of the surrounding islands, so we definitely recommend checking it out. And one more thing before I forget! The food on Tokashiki Island! "Kuinomiya Barakku" is a restaurant popular for its curry and Okinawan noodles. "Ryoshi-Shokudo Kanaloa" offers a specialty bowl of rice served with fresh fish and vegetables from Tokashiki Island. Both restaurants are perfect spots to relax after a long day of scuba diving. "Tuna Jerky" is a great souvenir to take back home. They say that sometimes the supply can't keep up with the demand because it's so popular! Summary of Tokashiki Island, Okinawa Photo:Tokashiki Island, Okinawa On Tokashiki Island, time flows slowly and it's a perfect spot for scuba diving. From 5:00 in the video, you can see the sunlight shining down mystically on the sea turtles, and just watching them is relaxing. So, are you ready to go scuba diving yet? Japan's Traditional Terraced Rice Fields. A Look at the Beautiful Terraced Paddies of Hiratsuka, Chiba!

Terraced Rice Fields Just Outside Tokyo! This video, titled "Chiba Hiratsuka terraced rice field - 棚田 - 4K Ultra HD," was released by "TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful." Have you ever seen a terraced rice field? Many people think that you have to go to Niigata or other places in Japan's Tohoku region to see terraced rice fields. The video introduces the beautiful terraced rice fields of Kamogawa, Chiba a place easily accessible from Tokyo. Let's take a look at some of Japan's beautiful landscapes in the video! The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields Photo:The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, Chiba Prefecture The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, featured in the video, is famous for being the closest terraced rice field to Tokyo. The area is 3.2 hectares, with more than 375 paddies extending across the hillside. Even today, many rice paddies are used for farming and this scenery can be said to be a classic Japanese landscape. Because of its proximity to Tokyo, Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields has introduced an "owner system" as a place for urban farmers to experience agriculture, and it has even been featured in the news. In addition to rice cultivation, they've also built an observation area and an observation floor, and hold events, such as "Tanada no Akari," a light up event utilizing 10,000 LED candles. The event attracts many tourists. The beautiful scene of a sunrise created between the paddies at 0:31 is something that not even a high-quality video can do justice to. The Terraced Rice Fields Found All Over Japan Photo:Rice fields and mountains in rural Japan Many of Japan’s rice fields are built on an inclination. This has the advantage of allowing for easy water control and improved rice production. One drawback, however, is that these are stair-stepped on steep slopes with land that is difficult to drain due to narrow cultivation units, and there are many places with no successors. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has designated 100 of the 134 terraced rice fields across Japan as the "Top 100 Terraced Rice Fields of Japan" in order to maintain the terraced rice fields and stimulate tourism in those areas. Although the word "terraced rice paddies" is used to describe the fields, the shape and characteristics of each paddy differs from place to place, so traveling across Japan to explore the different scenery of each area can make for a fun road trip! Many of these places have reputations for their Instagrammable and photogenic scenery as well. Famous Places to visit on Chiba Prefecture's Boso Peninsula Photo:Walruses at Kamogawa Sea World, Chiba Prefecture The Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, is home to the Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields. It can be easily accessed from Tokyo by JR limited express trains, express buses, and the Tokyo Bay Aqualine. On Boso Peninsula, many tourists visit Kamogawa Sea World, Mother Farm, and go swimming during the summer. In addition to the Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, Boso Peninsula has many other sightseeing spots that make it an excellent travel destination. Summary of the Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields Photo:Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields, Chiba Prefecture We hope the beautiful scenery of the rice fields in the video provided a relaxing atmosphere. There are many terraced rice fields that can be found across Japan, so be sure to do some research before your trip to find one that you can visit! If you live in Japan you can also use the “owner system” to become the owner of a beautiful rice field and grow your own rice! 【Tripadvisor】The Oyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g1021271-d1944760-r554882939-Oyama_Rice_Terraces-Kamogawa_Chiba_Prefecture_Kanto.html -

Baikamo Blooming on the Takimi River in Hyogo Prefecture: Video Introduction This video, titled "Baikamo|A Flower Only Found in Japan [Shinonsen] 4K" (バイカモ 日本固有種 【新温泉町】4k), was uploaded by "e production.com" (e映像制作.com). Have you ever heard of the plant baikamo? In this article, we'll introduce an underwater flower that blooms in the Takimi River in Shinonsen, Hyogo. Be sure to check out the video to see the beautiful baikamo blooming in the clear stream. Baikamo – A Look at the Flower Blooming on the Takimi River in Hyogo, Japan Source :YouTube screenshot From the beginning of the video, you can see baikamo growing as birds chirp and the gentle sound of the river plays in the background. The video is very striking, as if it were shot from a bird's eye view. The location shown in the video is Baikamo Park. There are not many areas in Japan where baikamo can be found in such abundance. Baikamo is a plant that grows in tall mountains where the water is very cold, so it's rare to see it growing in clusters. Unfortunately, the baikamo colony on the Takimi River began to shrink in size around 2017, and as of 2022, not many baikamo can be seen anymore. Baikamo, a Flower that Blooms Under Water Photo:Baikamo Baikamo is a species endemic to Japan. The baikamo, which blooms along the Takimi River in Shinonsen, belongs to the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae, and has the scientific name of Ranunculus Kazusensis Makino. In floriography (the language of flowers) its meaning is "Happiness will come." Just as the language of flowers suggests, the small, pretty flowers blooming on the surface of the water make people happy just by looking at them. There is also a type of baikamo called ginkgo baikamo, which can be seen in some areas of Japan. This flower blooms from early summer to early fall, with white flowers 1-2 cm in diameter. The flowers resemble plum blossoms, and because of this, baikamo is often written with the kanji 梅花藻 (梅, Bai "Plum"; 花 ka "Flower"; 藻 mo "Algae"). It's a perennial flower that grows underwater and is characterized by its evergreen nature. It is also edible as a wild plant. Where Can Baikamo Be Found in Japan? Photo:The Jizo River, Awai, Shiga The baikamo featured in this video can be seen in Japan's Kinki region, such as the Jizo River in Awai, Shiga, and Kamikawa, Hyogo. Other locations include Echizen, Fukui; Mishima Baikamo Park (三島梅花藻公園), Shizuoka; Chokeiji Temple (長慶寺) in Tsuru, Yamanashi; and the Shimizu River in Konan, Fukushima. There is also a baikamo colony in Eniwa, Hokkaido. Summary of Baikamo, an Aquatic Plant That Blooms Only in Clear Streams Baikamo is an aquatic plant that blooms only in clear streams rich in nature. It's a pity that the number of baikamo has been decreasing due to various climate and environmental changes. However, there is good news from the Shimizu River in Tamba, Hyogo. The number of baikamo had been rapidly decreasing due to the decrease in water flow caused by the proliferation of weeds, but thanks to preservation activities by local residents, the baikamo population has been restored. It would be nice to see baikamo blooming beautifully again in the Takimi River like in the video. 【TripAdvisor】Baikamo Park https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1121310-d8368832-Reviews-Baikamo_Park-Shinonsen_cho_Mikata_gun_Hyogo_Prefecture_Kinki.html -

Some of them can be life-threatening in small doses, so be careful. Below is how you can make yomogi mochi, as shown in the video. 1. Add salt to boiling water and boil the mugwort for 30 seconds then soak in cold water. 2. Squeeze out the water and chop into small pieces. 3. Add 200g of adzuki beans and 600ml of water to a pot and put on high heat. 4. Once the water comes to a boil, strains the beans and return them to the pot. 5. Add another 600ml of water and put on high heat. 6. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat and boil it for 40 to 60 minutes, keeping it fluffy. 7. When you can squish the beans effortlessly, add 120g of beet sugar and a pinch of salt and stir. 8. If you're using brown rice, make sure it's polished. 9. Soak the glutinous rice in water for at least 8 hours. 10. Drain the water from the glutinous rice and steam it in a steamer for around 30 minutes. 11. Mix the glutinous rice and mugwort leaves and put it in a stand mixer for 10 minutes. 12. Flour and cut into 50g pieces. 13. Cut up the rice cake, roll it out flat, wrap it in anko, shape it and you're done! You need time to soak the glutinous rice in water, so you'll need to prepare it the day before. Nothing beats fresh, homemade yomogi mochi! Be sure to check out how it's made in the video! -

Autumn Leaves at Entsuin Temple: Video Introduction This video, titled "Entsuin Temple|Autumn Leaves Illumination|Matsushima, Miyagi|2019|Panasonic FZ1000" (円通院 紅葉ライトアップ 松島 宮城 2019 Panasonic FZ1000), was uploaded by "JMF Japan Miyagi Film." It introduces the breathtakingly beautiful autumn foliage illumination event at Entsuin Temple. A Closer Look at Entsuin Temple – Its History and What Makes It Unique Photo:The garden and mausoleum of Entsuin Temple Entsuin Temple is a temple associated with the Date clan, the feudal lords of Sendai, located in Matsushima, Miyagi, in Japan's Tohoku region, a place known as one of the "Three Views of Japan." Entsuin Temple was built in 1647 by Date Tadamune as the mausoleum of Date Mitsumune, the grandson of Date Masamune. Located in the inner part of the temple grounds is a mausoleum from the early Edo period (~1603-1700 AD) which is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Within the grounds of Entsuin Temple, visitors can enjoy several gardens, including a dry landscape garden that depicts Matsushima, a garden designated as a Cultural Property by the Town of Matsushima, a moss garden that takes advantage of the natural beauty of the inner mausoleum, and a garden mainly featuring roses, created by the temple's head priest. Entsuin temple is located just a few minutes' walk from Zuiganji Temple, and as you pass through the temple gate, you'll see many kokeshi dolls that have been used in marriage ceremonies, and enshrined on the back side of the gate is Enmusubi Kannon. Enmusubi Kannon (the Buddhist goddess Avalokiteshvara depicted as a matchmaker) is said to bring together men and women or those who have never had a chance to be together, and is famous as a power spot for marriage. Thus, Entsuin Temple is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Matsushima, together with Zuiganji Temple, a National Treasure. When to See the Autumn Illumination Event at Entsuin Temple + Highlights of the Event Photo:Shinji Pond at Entsuji Temple in Matsushima, Miyagi Entsuin Temple is also known for its beautiful autumn foliage. Every year from late October to late November, when the autumn leaves are at their best, an autumn illumination event takes place. The event is held in the historic Matsushima Rikyu, which is planted with ancient maple trees. In 2022, the event is scheduled to run from Saturday, October 29 to Wednesday, November 30. During this period, visitors can enjoy the fantastic autumn foliage illuminated at various places in the garden. In particular, this year's illumination event also features light-up events at Zuiganji Temple and Entsuin Temple from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM (last admission at 8:45) daily from Saturday, October 29 to Wednesday, November 23. We hope you have a chance to visit Entsuin Temple and enjoy the fantastic autumn leaves as shown in the video. The Rose Garden at Entsuin Temple Photo:The garden of Entsuin Temple Entsuin Temple is famous not only for its autumn foliage but also for its roses, and is also known as "Bara-ji" or "Rose Temple." The origin of this name is that the oldest Western roses in Japan were brought back by Hasekura Tsunenaga of the Date Clan, who traveled to Europe as an envoy during the Keicho Mission to Europe. As a symbol of his achievement, Entsuin Temple created a garden mainly composed of roses. In addition, roses are painted on the zushi (minature shrine) of the inner mausoleum, which is also designated as an Important Cultural Property. Entsuin Temple is a baroque garden born from a fusion of Buddhism and Christianity. The best time to see the roses is in early June, when the roses in the rose garden are in full bloom. However, bloom times vary according to the variety of rose. Traditional Prayer Bead Making Experiences and More! At Entsuin Temple, which is famous for its matchmaking activities, visitors can try their hand at making their own original Buddhist prayer beads. Buddhist prayer beads, called Juzu (数珠) in Japanese, are important Buddhist ritual objects that are worn during funerals, memorial services, visits to graves, and other occasions when one prays to Buddha. It's said that just by holding them, one can rid themself of misfortune and gain peace and tranquility. In the bead making experience, participants can choose their favorite beads and make their own unique prayer beads. The beads are made of natural stone, plastic, and glass, all of which are used to pray and express gratitude to the deity of Entsuin Temple. The process takes 20 minutes, is relatively simple, and does not require an appointment. Entsuin Temple also has its own original shuin stamp books. All of these books are also used to pray and make offerings of gratitude to the main deity of Entsuin temple. By depositing your shuin stamp book at the entrance before visiting the temple, you can receive a shuin stamp when visiting. Summary of Autumn at Entsuin Temple Photo:Entsuin Temple, Matsushima, Miyagi Entsuin Temple is a place where visitors can enjoy various gardens, autumn leaves, Buddhism, and bead-making workshops in a relaxing atmosphere with lots of nature and rich history. However, these actually a beach that is even more beautiful than Yonaha Beach... That is '17END.' Hatsumode at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto: Video Introduction This video, titled "Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto - The Head Shrine of the 12,000 Tenmangu Shrines in Japan, Dedicated to Sugawara No Michizane, the God of Learning [No. 055]' (京都 初詣 北野天満宮 〜 学問の神様菅原道真公をお祀りする全国12000ある天満宮の総本社、楼門に掲げられた巨大絵馬でご開運を![No.055]), was uploaded by "QUICK GLANCE KYOTO." Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is located in Kamigyo, Kyoto, in Japan's Kansai Region, and is known as the god of learning. Several statues of oxen, which are known to serve as messengers of the god, are located within the shrine precincts. The shrine is also known as one of the most crowded shrines in Kyoto for Hatsumode (the first shrine visit of the New Year). The huge ema (wooden prayer plaque) displayed at the gate is very popular, and some visitors come to the shrine for Hatsumode just to see it. Other highlights of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine include Sankomon Gate, the shrine repository, and the main shrine, which is designated as a National Treasure. Be sure to check out the video of Hatsumode at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine before reading along. Background Information for Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Photo:An ox statue at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Tenmangu shrines are located throughout Japan and are known as gods of learning to which students pray for success in entrance examinations. The head shrine, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, was built in the Heian period (794-1185 A.D.) and is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane. The beautiful main shrine building was donated to the shrine by Toyotomi Hideyori and is designated as a National Treasure. Ishi no Ma, one of the halls at the shrine, and the statues of the fierce gods can be seen during special public viewing periods. The most distinctive feature of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is the 10 plus statues of oxen that can be seen throughout the shrine. They are believed to be messengers of the god Sugawara no Michizane, who was born on the year of the Ox. It's said that touching the oxen and patting their heads will make you smarter, and petting their bodies will cure illnesses and injuries. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also said to bring blessings for the arts and culture and ward off bad luck among other things. At Fudehajime-sai, an event held in the precincts of the shrine, visitors write a kanji on a large sheet of paper with a brush to pray for success in their entrance exams. The shrine also sells shuin stamps bearing plums (the shrine crest), and good luck charms popular among students preparing for entrance exams can be obtained at the shrine office. Also, on the 25th of every month, there's a fair called Tenjin Ichi where shops selling antiques and household goods, as well as food stalls, line the temple grounds, attracting both local Kyoto residents and tourists. Hatsumode at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine – Information on Crowding and Parking! Photo:Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto ※Photo taken in 2019 Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also known as a popular shrine for Hatsumode. On the three days of the Japanese New Year, before the coronavirus pandemic, approximately 500,000 people would visit the shrine, making it the third most visited shrine in Kyoto after Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine and Yasaka Shrine. Therefore, New Year's is expected to be very crowded. During the first three days of the new year, New Year's Day in particular attracts a large number of visitors, so be sure to keep this in mind when visiting. Visiting hours are from New Year's Eve to 9:30 p.m. on New Year's Day, from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the 2nd, and from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd. Please refer to this information if you're planning to visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for Hatsumode. There are long lines everywhere in the precincts of the shrine, but if there's one thing we recommend seeing when visiting the shrine, it's the giant ema plaque. The giant ema with the year's zodiac sign written on it hangs at Romon Gate. It's a popular photo spot on New Year's, so be sure to take a picture to commemorate your visit. Parking is available at the shrine, but since it can be quite crowded during Hatsumode and there will be traffic restrictions in the area, it's recommended that visitors use public transportation. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine – Plum Blossoms, Autumn Leaves, and Other Seasonal Attractions! Photo:Autumn leaves at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also a sightseeing spot where beautiful plum blossoms and autumn leaves can be seen in different seasons. As Sugawara Michizane loved plums, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also famous for its plum garden. The Hana no Niwa plum garden on the grounds of the shrine is home to 1,500 plum trees of different varieties and is associated with Sugawara Michizane. Admission is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children, and tea cakes are available in the garden. The best time to view the plum blossoms is from mid-January to mid-March, so be sure to stop if you're visiting Kyoto in the spring. In the fall, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the main shrine, a National Treasure, and its 350 colored maple trees from the maple garden in the Odoi (an earthen fortification built by the famous warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi). The entrance fee is the same as that for the plum garden, and the beautiful scenery is popular amongst photographers and instagrammers. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is a shrine full of attractions: Hatsumode, plum blossoms in early spring, fresh greenery in summer, and autumn leaves in fall, and more. You can come to the shrine to pray for academic success as well as to visit it as a sightseeing spot in Kyoto! Summary of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is very crowded during Hatsumode, and visits may take more than two hours. Be sure to take into consideration the time of year and your schedule before visiting the shrine. When visiting Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, we recommend that you stop by the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine teahouse for some tasty Chogoro mochi rice cakes as well. The refined Chogoro mochi, which was served at the Kitano Grand Tea Ceremony held by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, is an elegant Japanese confectionary with a thin rice cake skin and red bean paste. Definitely give it a try. 2023 will mark the first unrestricted Hatsumode in a few years, and as such, is expected to be very crowded. Even still we recommend visiting the shrine to receive blessings from the god of learning and to make some great memories of New Year's in Japan. ◆Kitano Tenmangu Shrine◆ 【Address】Bakurocho, Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto, 602-8386 【Telephone】075-461-0005 【Parking】Available (For shrine visitors only) ※Parking is prohibited on the 25th of each month due to an event. 【Access】 Public Transportation: A short walk from the Kitano Tenmangu-mae bus stop on routes 50 and 101 of the city bus from JR Kyoto Station.
