Makomanai Takino Cemetery’s "Hill of the Buddha" in Sapporo, Hokkaido "Introduction to the Hill of the Buddha" (頭大仏の紹介), is a video about the Hill of the Buddha, a symbol of Makomanai Takino Cemetery where you can see the head of the Great Buddha. At Makomanai Takino Cemetery, you can also see a vast landscape of lavender hills with more than 15 thousand lavenders. This dramatic Hill of the Buddha, standing at the top of a dome-shaped slope, was designed by Ando Tadao, a famous architect, in 2016 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Makomanai Takino Cemetery. It is made up of 57 parts, which were selected and processed from 4,000 tons of unpolished stones. It is 13.5 meters high and weighs 1,500 tons. Initially, it was called “Mitama Kuyo Daibutsu.” You can see the Great Buddha in its entirety from 0:08 in the video. The construction of the Hill of the Buddha began in October 2013 and finished in 2016. As you can see from 0:56 in the video, the hardest part of this project was growing the 15 thousand lavenders. With the advice of lavender farmers and the help of volunteers, they succeeded in growing the lavenders from seed. It took about three years to build the Hill of the Buddha, and the construction process can be seen from 1:31 in the video. Makomanai Takino Cemetery's Hill of the Buddha Source :YouTube screenshot The Hill of the Buddha at Makomanai Takino Cemetery, Sapporo, Hokkaido, features the Great Buddha poking his head out from the lavender hill. According to the architect Ando Tadao, the purpose of this is to emphasize the gratitude of the Great Buddha as “that which you cannot see stimulates the imagination.” As you can see from 4:07 in the video, there is an approach with lavenders when entering Makomanai Takino Cemetery. There is also a water garden, which is a bypass of the pathway behind the approach. The water is a boundary to purify mind and to awaken the extraordinary. After going through the water garden, there is a tunnel that goes through the hill, which is shown at 4:25 in the video. The tunnel represents the womb and is lined with concrete folds. You can see the Great Buddha as you pass through the tunnel, and the panoramic view of the Buddha, which you can see along the 135-meter walk, is even more impressive. The light from the sky lights up the Buddha and surrounds you with artistic scenery. Learn About the Construction Process at the Gallery and Café Source :YouTube screenshot Next to the water-basin, there is a gallery where you can see the construction process of the Hill of the Buddha. Here, you can find out what the famous architect Ando Tadao had in mind when he designed the project. Across the gallery, lays the “Rotunda Café and Store.” You can enjoy snacks and tea and buy original merchandise and souvenirs here. It was opened in 2018 as a rest station, due to the increase of foreign tourists. Also, there are replicas of Easter Island’s Moai statues, which carry the meaning of “living into the future,” as well as a replica of Stonehenge. Autumn Leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano, Japan: Video Introduction Photo:Autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture This video, titled "[4K] Mysteriously Spectacular Views|Autumn Leaves at Shirakoma Pond - (shot on BMPCC6K)" ([4K] 神秘の絶景 天空の湖 白駒池の紅葉 - Autumn Leaves at Shirakoma Pond - (shot on BMPCC6K)), was uploaded by "AQUA Geo Graphic." Shirakoma Pond in Nagano Prefecture is known for its beautiful autumn foliage. The reflection of the colorful trees on the surface of the lake is so beautiful you'd only expect to see it in a painting. Shirakoma Pond is blessed with abundant nature, and is a popular location for hiking as well. The pond is a popular tourist spot that attracts many visitors throughout the year because of its wonderful scenery that changes with the seasons, especially during autumn. Enjoy the beautiful contrast of between the green, yellow, and fiery red autumn leaves reflected on the mirror-like surface of the lake in this 2-minute long 4K video. Where is Shirakoma Pond? Location of the Pond in Nagano Famous for Its Autumn Leaves Photo:Shirakoma Pond from Takami-ishi, Nagano Prefecture Shirakoma Pond is located in the eastern part of Nagano Prefecture, on the border between the towns of Koumi and Sakuho. Located on the Yachiho Highland (Yachiho Kogen) at an elevation of 2,115m (~6,900 ft), Shirakoma Pond is the highest and largest natural lake in Japan. The pond is also known for its extremely high transparency, allowing visitors to see as deep as 5.8 meters below the surface. Shirakoma Pond is easily accessible despite its location on the Yachiho Highland. With a well-maintained promenade, it's becoming a popular tourist attraction. When to See Autumn Leaves at Shirakoma Pond – Best Season and Photo Spots Photo:Autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture The area surrounding Shirakoma Pond is known as one of Japan's three largest virgin forests, and during autumn, when the leaves change color, the virgin forest, filled with azaleas, birch trees, and maples, changes color to brilliant shades of red and yellow. Every year, the area is crowded with tourists who come to view the autumn foliage. If you're planning to visit Shirakoma Pond, autumn is definitely the best season to come so you can see the beauty of the autumn leaves. In the high elevation areas of Japan's Chubu region, the best time to view the autumn leaves is from late September at the earliest, and from early October on an average year. Since the forecast for autumn leaves at elevations above 2,000m is said to be largely unchanged, the best time to view the autumn foliage at Shirakoma Pond in 2023 is expected to be from late September to mid-October. During autumn, when the leaves are in season, Shirakoma Pond is crowded tourists. If you're looking to take photos, there are two great spots in front of the mountain lodges "Shirakoma-so" (白駒荘) and "Seitai-so" (青苔荘) that overlook the lakeside area. The two lodges, situated on opposite sides of Shirakoma Pond, are well known for their sunrises and sunsets which can be photographed together with the pond in the foreground. Hiking at Shirakoma Pond! Photo:The moss forest around Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture There are several hiking trails around Shirakoma Pond that can be enjoyed even by beginner hikers. We recommend the route from Shirakoma Pond (白駒池) to Takami-ishi (高見石), which has a minimal elevation change and can be easily hiked. The hike takes about 2 hours and departs from the Shirakoma Pond parking lot. The hike proceeds along a trail on which hikers can admire the beautiful mosses growing in the area. Once you reach a fork in the road, head toward Takami-ishi Lodge After hiking up behind Takami-ishi Lodge, you'll arrive at Takami-ishi. From Takami-ishi, you can enjoy a spectacular view of Japan's Northern and Central Alps and Shirakoma Pond. After admiring the view, descend from Takami-ishi toward Shirakoma Pond. Follow the boardwalk circling the mystical Shirakoma Pond before returning to the parking lot to end the hike. Although the trail around Shirakoma Pond is well maintained, it becomes slippery when it rains. When visiting Takami-ishi, a series of rock formations, in particular, extreme care should be taken to avoid injury or accidents. Please be prepared to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes that are easy to move in, and check the weather before you go out. Additionally, because the area around Shirakoma Pond is mountainous, temperatures can vary greatly. Please bring warm clothes to adjust for the temperature changes. After enjoying hiking in the magnificent nature of Nagano, we recommend taking a breather at one of the hot spring resorts in the area. The Shirakoma Pond area is dotted with facilities where you can enjoy hot springs and take in the beautiful scenery. It's a great way to relax after a nice day of hiking. Camping at Shirakoma Pond Photo:The tent campsite at Takami-ishi Lodge, Nagano Prefecture In addition to hiking and viewing the autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, there are also a few locations where you can enjoy camping. Seitai-so Seitai-so, the mountain lodge mentioned earlier, has a tent site located right next to it where you can set up a tent right by the lake. The tent site is available year-round and you can even enjoy a beautiful starry sky with a view of the pond frozen over in the winter. Keep in mind that the tent site is reservation only and all garbage must be taken with you when you leave. Lodge Hours: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm. ※Hours may vary by season. Fee: The tent site is free of charge. General lodging starts at 5,500 yen/person for adults. Takami-ishi Another campsite is the Takami-ishi Tent Site, located beside Takami-ishi Lodge. Unlike the tent site at Seitai-so, Takami-ishi does not accept reservations, and is open to campers on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, the owners of the lodge provide commentary about the stars at night on the terrace, and invite guests to join them to listen. While not located directly next to Shirakoma Pond, it's only about 10 minutes from the pond by car. Lodge Hours: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Fee: Tent site: 600 yen/person. General lodging starts at 5,500 yen/ person. Both of the above facilities also having standard accommodations as well, so if you want to stay the night and enjoy the starry skies and autumn leaves, but don't want to stay in a tent, you can always book a room in the lodges. Parking and Crowding at Shirakoma Pond During the Autumn Foliage Season Photo:Autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture To get to Shirakoma Pond, it's best to use the parking lot on Route 299. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the pond on foot from the parking lot. That being said, because it's a famous spot for viewing the autumn leaves, more than 180,000 people visit Shirakoma Pond during the autumn foliage season, and the parking lot becomes incredibly crowded, especially on weekends. At the same time, many cars are entering and exiting the parking lot, resulting in heavy traffic congestion on the surrounding roads. The most crowded hours at Shirakoma Pond are between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays, and 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekends and holidays. If you visit Shirakoma Pond to see the autumn leaves on a weekday, it may be better to go between 6:00 am and 9:00 am. On weekends and holidays, it might be smoother to go between 6:00 am and 8:00 am. However, in the past, there have been some reports that the parking lots were full as early as 9:00 am, so be sure to check the real-time parking conditions when visiting. For real-time information on congestion around Shirakoma Pond, you'll have the most luck using Twitter. Look up "白駒池" (Shirakoma Pond) in the Twitter search box to check the latest tweets. It's also recommended that you check live cameras installed at the Shirakoma Pond parking lot. Access the official website of the Shirakoma Pond toll parking lot to view the live camera, which is updated every 5 minutes. This is useful for checking the status of the parking lot and the weather in real time. Although it is convenient to drive to Shirakoma Pond during the fall foliage season, you may want to consider using public transportation if you're trying to avoid crowds and traffic jams. Summary of Autumn Leaves at Shirakoma Pond Photo:Autumn leaves at Shirakoma Pond, Nagano Prefecture Shirakoma Pond, located in Nagano Prefecture and famous for its autumn foliage, is the highest natural lake in Japan at 2,115 meters above sea level. During the fall foliage season, the azaleas and birch trees change color beautifully, creating a picturesque landscape. The Shirakoma Pond area is also famous for its "moss forest," which is home to 485 species of moss. The best time to see the mosses is from mid-June to the end of July, after Japan's rainy season, and visitors can enjoy the moss forest until early November every year. We invite you to experience the mysterious beauty of Shirakoma Pond as expressed in the video. 【TripAdvisor】Shirakoma Pond -

The temple was built in homage to the Pure Land Buddhism temples of the Nara and Heian periods, and it has a vivid and majestic appearance. Because of its overwhelming beauty, it has become a new attraction for tourism in Onomichi as an #instaworthy spot. The History of Kosanji Temple & Facts About Kosanji Museum Photo:Kosanji Temple, Onomichi, Hiroshima Kosanji Temple, located in Onomichi, Hiroshima, was originally built by Kozo Kanemoto, a businessman from Fukuoka Prefecture, to mourn the loss of his mother. The temple belongs to the Honganji School of Shinshu Jodo Buddhism and is also known as "Haha no Tera" (母の寺, lit. "Mother's Temple"). The temple is called the "Nikko of the West" (a reference to the beautiful Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Tochigi prefecture) for its beautiful color and design, and pagodas modeled after ancient buildings. In 2003, 15 of its buildings were designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. Kosanji Museum exhibits many Important Cultural Properties and nationally designated Important Works of Art. This collection was originally assembled to furnish Chouseikaku Villa, which was built as both a villa and as the resting place for Kozo Kosanji's mother, and later for the temple and the opening of the museum. Immediately after the end of WWII, the museum began displaying and exhibiting the collected works of art, and in 1953, it was reestablished as a nationally registered museum, which it remains to this day. The majority of the collection consists of Buddhist art, tea ceremony art, and modern art, including a famous statue Amida Nyorai (Amitabha) with a crown of gold, which was by constructed by Kaikei, a Buddhist priest of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). What is the Hill of Hope? Photo:The white marble garden at the Hill of Hope in Onomichi, Hiroshima The Hill of Hope, located on the grounds of Kosanji, is a 5,000 square meter white marble garden. Its pure white beauty is reminiscent of the Greek island of Santorini. The marble used in the garden was mined from Carrara, Italy, where the world-renowned sculptor, Itto Kuetani, has his studio. Monuments of various shapes and sizes are placed on the hill, and paths and plazas have been created. Mr. Kuetani created these monuments harmony with the surrounding scenery and nature. He hopes that visitors will enjoy the marble garden as a part of nature, and that they will let their imaginations run wild. Kosanji Temple's Hill of Hope, a unique tourist attraction in Onomichi, is now one of the most popular Instagram spots on the Shimanami Kaido. Particularly popular is "Koumei no To" (Tower of Light), which is placed at the highest point of the Hill of Hope, as if to join hands with the setting sun. In front of the white tower, visitors can take pictures against the sky above the Seto Inland Sea, making it a popular spot for couples and tourists in general. Another instaworthy feature is "Kaze no Shiki" (風の四季, Winds of the Four Seasons); four marble screens representing the winds of the four seasons. They're great for taking pictures. If you wish to enjoy both the Kosanji Temple Museum and the Hill of Hope, you should expect to spend approximately 5 hours here. Cycling in Onomichi and the Shimanami Kaido Photo:A woman cycling on the Shimanami Kaido While Kosanji Temple, Kosanji Museum, and the Hill of Hope can all be accessed via public transportation or personal vehicles, one of the things Onomichi is known for is the Shimanami Kaido, a popular cycling route that takes cyclists from Onomichi in Hiroshima to Imabari in Ehime, across the Seto Inland Sea. The Shimanami Kaido is dotted with popular tourist attractions and things to do along the way, has great scenery, and is a great way to explore the area. The cycling course will take advanced cyclists 3-5 hours to complete, and beginners should expect the course to take 8-10 hours to complete while stopping at tourist attractions and taking in the scenery along the way. There are bicycle rental terminals with which visitors can rent a bicycle in Onomichi and drop off the bike in Imabari (or vise-versa) after they finish the course, so there's no need to worry about hauling the bike back to where you rented it, or having to bring your own bike. If you're interested in getting some exercise and enjoying the breeze, this is a great course to consider when visiting the Onomichi area. Even during fierce winters with their westerly winds (westerlies in Japan bring cold air from Siberia over the country), thanks to a distribution of high pressures in the west and low pressure to the east inland, temperatures in the area remain relatively mild. Thanks to these weather conditions, daffodils from Kyonan are deeply scented and grow very tall. Okuzure Suisenkyo, and Ezuki Narcissus Road are popular daffodil spots in Kyonan. Okuzure Suisenkyo is a 2.2-km area stretching from the Sakuma Dam area to the Okuzure area. Ezuki Narcissus Road refers to a road in the Ezuki area fringed for 3 kilometers on both sides by daffodils. A 30–40 minute walk each direction, the road is a popular hiking trail. Enjoy a stroll accompanied by a lovely view and the welcoming scent of the daffodils blooming along the road. Each year in January, just as the daffodils begin to bloom, the Daffodil Festival is held at Okuzure Suisenkyo, and Ezuki Narcissus Road, attracting large numbers of tourists. During the daffodil festival a variety of activities are available, including "mochitsuki" (a Japanese tradition of pounding rice into a stretchy, sticky confection known as "mochi"), vegetable stores open, and events, such as stamp rallies, take place as well. At the shops lining the road, visitors can purchase daffodils in addition to the vegetables for sale. Sakuma Dam Park located on Ezuki Narcissus Road is the stage for a light show at night-time, and the daffodils appear to rise up out of the night, making for an ethereal spectacle. [Video] 1:47 - Daffodils and Illuminations Enjoy Cherry Blossoms in Spring at Sakuma Dam Lake Park Photo:Kawazu cherry blossoms at Sakuma Dam Lake Park Located on the shores of Sakuma Dam's reservoir lake, Sakuma Dam Lake Park (佐久間ダム湖親水公園, sakuma damuko shinsui koen) is known not only for its daffodils, but for its cherry blossoms too. Between early February and early March the Yoritomo cherry blossoms (also known as Kawazu sakura) bloom, followed by Yoshino cherries from late March to early April, and multi-layered cherry blossoms (八重桜, yae-zakura) from mid to late April, with a "Yoritomo Cherry Blossom Festival" (頼朝桜まつり, Yoritomo Sakura Matsuri) and "Cherry Blossom Festival" (桜まつり, Sakura Matsuri) being held accordingly. Be sure to enjoy mountain dyed pink by the beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. In the vicinity of Sakuma Dam, the daffodils start to bloom as early as December, and as the season comes to an end in February the early-blooming Yoritomo cherry blossoms begin to flower, making it possible to experience a rare duet of daffodils and cherry blossoms. You can enjoy flowers at Sakuma Dam Lake Park at their best from winter, when the daffodils bloom, right through the cherry blossom season in the spring. Okuzure Suisenkyo, Chiba Prefecture: Roundup The "Daffodil Festival," held at one of the "Top 3 Daffodil Colonies in Japan," Okuzure Suisenkyo, and Ezuki Narcissus Road, have highlights aplenty, offering not only gorgeous views of daffodils, but also illuminations, and a variety of other events. A field of daffodils stretching as far as the eye can see would make a pretty good phone background to keep as a reminder of this year's winter. Don't you think? 【TripAdvisor】Narcissus Road -

Video introduction of Hatsumode at “Kitano Tenmangu Shrine” in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan This video, titled "Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto - The Head Shrine of the 12,000 Tenmangu Shrines in Japan, Dedicated to Sugawara No Michizane, the God of Learning [No. 055]' (京都 初詣 北野天満宮 〜 学問の神様菅原道真公をお祀りする全国12000ある天満宮の総本社、楼門に掲げられた巨大絵馬でご開運を![No.055]), was uploaded by "QUICK GLANCE KYOTO." Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is located in Kamigyo, Kyoto, in Japan's Kansai Region, and is known as the god of learning. Several statues of oxen, which are known to serve as messengers of the god, are located within the shrine precincts. The shrine is also known as one of the most crowded shrines in Kyoto for Hatsumode (the first shrine visit of the New Year). The huge ema (wooden prayer plaque) displayed at the gate is very popular, and some visitors come to the shrine for Hatsumode just to see it. Other highlights of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine include Sankomon Gate, the shrine repository, and the main shrine, which is designated as a National Treasure. Be sure to check out the video of Hatsumode at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine before reading along. Background Information for Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Photo:An ox statue at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Tenmangu shrines are located throughout Japan and are known as gods of learning to which students pray for success in entrance examinations. The head shrine, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, was built in the Heian period (794-1185 A.D.) and is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane. The beautiful main shrine building was donated to the shrine by Toyotomi Hideyori and is designated as a National Treasure. Ishi no Ma, one of the halls at the shrine, and the statues of the fierce gods can be seen during special public viewing periods. The most distinctive feature of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is the 10 plus statues of oxen that can be seen throughout the shrine. They are believed to be messengers of the god Sugawara no Michizane, who was born on the year of the Ox. It's said that touching the oxen and patting their heads will make you smarter, and petting their bodies will cure illnesses and injuries. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also said to bring blessings for the arts and culture and ward off bad luck among other things. At Fudehajime-sai, an event held in the precincts of the shrine, visitors write a kanji on a large sheet of paper with a brush to pray for success in their entrance exams. The shrine also sells shuin stamps bearing plums (the shrine crest), and good luck charms popular among students preparing for entrance exams can be obtained at the shrine office. Also, on the 25th of every month, there's a fair called Tenjin Ichi where shops selling antiques and household goods, as well as food stalls, line the temple grounds, attracting both local Kyoto residents and tourists. Hatsumode at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine – Information on Crowding and Parking! Photo:Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto ※Photo taken in 2019 Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also known as a popular shrine for Hatsumode. On the three days of the Japanese New Year, before the coronavirus pandemic, approximately 500,000 people would visit the shrine, making it the third most visited shrine in Kyoto after Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine and Yasaka Shrine. Therefore, New Year's is expected to be very crowded. During the first three days of the new year, New Year's Day in particular attracts a large number of visitors, so be sure to keep this in mind when visiting. Visiting hours are from New Year's Eve to 9:30 p.m. on New Year's Day, from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the 2nd, and from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd. Please refer to this information if you're planning to visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for Hatsumode. There are long lines everywhere in the precincts of the shrine, but if there's one thing we recommend seeing when visiting the shrine, it's the giant ema plaque. The giant ema with the year's zodiac sign written on it hangs at Romon Gate. It's a popular photo spot on New Year's, so be sure to take a picture to commemorate your visit. Parking is available at the shrine, but since it can be quite crowded during Hatsumode and there will be traffic restrictions in the area, it's recommended that visitors use public transportation. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine – Plum Blossoms, Autumn Leaves, and Other Seasonal Attractions! Photo:Autumn leaves at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also a sightseeing spot where beautiful plum blossoms and autumn leaves can be seen in different seasons. As Sugawara Michizane loved plums, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is also famous for its plum garden. The Hana no Niwa plum garden on the grounds of the shrine is home to 1,500 plum trees of different varieties and is associated with Sugawara Michizane. Admission is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children, and tea cakes are available in the garden. The best time to view the plum blossoms is from mid-January to mid-March, so be sure to stop if you're visiting Kyoto in the spring. In the fall, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the main shrine, a National Treasure, and its 350 colored maple trees from the maple garden in the Odoi (an earthen fortification built by the famous warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi). The entrance fee is the same as that for the plum garden, and the beautiful scenery is popular amongst photographers and instagrammers. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is a shrine full of attractions: Hatsumode, plum blossoms in early spring, fresh greenery in summer, and autumn leaves in fall, and more. You can come to the shrine to pray for academic success as well as to visit it as a sightseeing spot in Kyoto! Summary of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is very crowded during Hatsumode, and visits may take more than two hours. Be sure to take into consideration the time of year and your schedule before visiting the shrine. When visiting Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, we recommend that you stop by the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine teahouse for some tasty Chogoro mochi rice cakes as well. The refined Chogoro mochi, which was served at the Kitano Grand Tea Ceremony held by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, is an elegant Japanese confectionary with a thin rice cake skin and red bean paste. Definitely give it a try. (いらっしゃいませ!), or the shorter version "irasshai!" (いらっしゃい!). 居酒屋いざかやさんに入はいると、「いらっしゃいませ!」またはもっと短みじかい「いらっしゃい!」と挨拶あいさつされるでしょう。 Both of these mean "Welcome!" and are the typical greeting you'll hear at restaurants and stores across Japan. どちらも「ようこそ!」という意味いみで、日本中にほんじゅうのレストランやお店みせでよく聞きかれる挨拶あいさつです。 [Video] 0:31 - Staff Greeting a Customer 【動画どうが】0:31~ スタッフによるお客様きゃくさまへのご挨拶あいさつ After being seated at a table, the staff will likely bring oshibori (おしぼり) to your table. テーブルに着席ちゃくせきすると、店員てんいんさんがおしぼりを持もってきます。 Oshibori are wet towels that are used to wipe one's hands before eating. おしぼりとは、食事しょくじの前まえに手てを拭ふくための濡ぬれたタオルです。 You may see people wiping their faces or tables with oshibori, but keep in mind that this can be considered rude in some cases, so it might be best to avoid doing it. おしぼりで、顔かおやテーブルを拭ふくのを見みかけますが、失礼しつれいにあたることもあるので、避さけた方ほうが良よいかもしれません。 [Video] 0:37 - Oshibori 【動画どうが】0:37~ おしぼり After you've been seated and your oshibori has been brought to the table, the next thing to do is order your first dish. 席せきに着ついて、おしぼりが運はこばれてきたら、次つぎは注文ちゅうもんです。 At izakaya in Japan, it's common for everyone to order a simple beer, as they're all the same and can be served relatively quickly. ビールは比較的ひかくてき早はやく提供ていきょうされるので日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやでは、最初さいしょにビールを注文ちゅうもんするのが定番ていばんです。 The stock phrase for this is "Toriaezu nama" (とりあえず生) which means "For now, I'll take a draft beer." 注文ちゅうもんする時とき、「とりえず、生なまビールお願ねがいします」という意味いみの「とりあえず生せい」という決きまり文句もんくを使つかいます。 Having said that, if you don't like beer, you can just order something else. とはいえ、ビールが苦手にがてな方ほうは、他たの飲のみ物ものを注文ちゅうもんしましょう。 [Video] 1:20 - Ordering Your First Drink at an Izakaya in Japan 【動画どうが】1:20~ 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやで初はじめての飲のみ物ものの注文ちゅうもん After you've ordered you're first drink or dish, you'll be served an otoshi (お通し). 最初さいしょの飲のみ物ものまたは料理りょうりを注文ちゅうもんした後のちは、「お通とおし」が出でてきます。 Otoshi are small appetizers served at izakaya and often include a variety of vegetables and sometimes meat, or they can be as simple as edamame. お通とおしとは、居酒屋いざかやで出だされる小ちいさな前菜ぜんさいのことで、よく野菜やさいや肉にくが入はいっていますが、枝豆えだまめなどのシンプルなお通とおしもあります。 These cost several hundred yen as they are served in place of a cover charge, and cannot be refused. お通とおしは、通常つうじょう数すう百ひゃく円えんのカバーチャージの代かわりに提供ていきょうされるため、断ことわることができません。 Unfortunately, you can't choose what your otoshi is, so if you're a picky eater or have allergies, you may not be able to eat them at all. 残念ざんねんながら、お通とおしは選えらべないので、好すき嫌きらいが激はげしい人ひとやアレルギーのある人ひとは食たべられない可能性かのうせいもあります。 [Video] 1:56 - Otoshi 【動画どうが】1:56~ お通とおし Ordering at an Izakaya in Japan 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやでの注文ちゅうもん Photo:A woman calling a server(写真しゃしん:店員てんいんを呼よぶ女性じょせい) After you've received your beer and otoshi, and you're ready to order, you'll need to call the server over to your table. ビールなどの飲のみ物ものとお通とおしがきて、注文ちゅうもんの品しなが決きまったら、店員てんいんさんをテーブルに呼よびます。 In Japan the server generally won't come to your table to check how the meal is or to ask if you want to order something. 日本にほんでは一般的いっぱんてきに、店員てんいんさんは食事しょくじの様子ようすを見みに来きたり、追加注文ついかちゅうもんを聞ききに来きたりすることはありません。 Instead, you'll call them over to the table when you want to order something. その代かわり、何なにか注文ちゅうもんしたいときにはテーブルまで店員てんいんさんを呼よびます。 This can be done by calling out "sumimasen!" (すみません), which means "Excuse me!" in Japanese. そのとき、「すみません!」と呼よびかけをしましょう。 As the video mentions, this is never considered rude and is the proper way to order at an izakaya and most restaurants in Japan. 動画どうがで紹介しょうかいされているように、「すみません」は、居酒屋いざかやや日本にほんのほとんどのレストランでも使つかわれている正ただしい注文ちゅうもん方法ほうほうなので失礼しつれいにはあたりません。 [Video] 2:36 - Calling the Server at an Izakaya in Japan 【動画どうが】2:36~ 居酒屋いざかやで店員てんいんさんを呼よぶ様子ようす If you're not a picky eater and are feeling adventurous, you can always ask the server for their recommendation as well. 好き嫌すききらいが激はげしくなくて、冒険ぼうけん心しんがある人ひとなら、店員てんいんさんにお勧すすめのメニューを聞きいてみるのも良よいでしょう。 The phrase for this is "Osusume wa?" (おすすめは?). その時ときの決きまり文句もんくは「おすすめは?」。 You don't have to know what they're saying, just give a simple "Okay," and you should have no problems ordering. 言いっていることが分わからなくても、「OK」と言いえば、注文ちゅうもんできるはずです。 Another tip to keep in mind when ordering, is to point at the pictures on the menu. 注文ちゅうもんするときのもう1ひとつのポイントは、メニューの写真しゃしんを指ゆび差さすことです。 This will make it much easier to order. そうすれば、注文ちゅうもんがしやすくなるでしょう。 If there aren't any pictures, the Google Translate app's real time translation feature is super useful, so definitely give it a try! 写真しゃしんがない場合ばあいは、Google翻訳ぐーぐるほんやくのアプリのリアルタイム翻訳機能ほんやくきのうがすごく便利べんりなので、ぜひ使つかってみてください。 [Video] 3:40 - Asking the Staff for a Recommendation 【動画どうが】3:40~ 店員てんいんさんにおすすめを聞きく様子ようす Izakaya Food – Menu Items, Courses, and Prices at Izakaya in Japan 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやでの注文ちゅうもん方法ほうほう Photo:An izakaya party menu(写真しゃしん:居酒屋いざかやの宴会メニューえんかいめにゅー) Japan's izakaya often serve a wide variety of dishes. 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやでは、様々さまざまなメニューがあります。 You can often find small dishes using a variety of vegetables, sashimi platters, and things like karaage (Japanese fried chicken), yakitori (chicken skewers), takoyaki (fried balls of batter with octopus), and gyoza (pot stickers), as well as larger dishes like seafood bowls and even ramen. 様々さまざまな野菜やさいを使つかった小皿こざらのメニューや刺身さしみの盛もり合あわせ、から揚あげ、焼やき鳥とり、たこ焼やき、餃子ぎょうざなどの軽かるいものも多おおくありますが、海鮮丼かいせんどんやラーメンといったボリュームのあるメニューもあります。 Besides the individual dishes and drinks, most izakaya in Japan offer a "tabehoudai" (食べ放題, all you can eat) or "nomihoudai" (飲み放題, all you can drink) course as well. 単品たんぴんのメニューや飲のみ物ものの他ほかに、日本にほんの多おおくの居酒屋いざかやには、「食たべ放題ほうだい」や「飲のみ放題ほうだい」というコースがあります。 Both courses are structured roughly the same. どちらのコースもほぼ同おなじ構成こうせいです。 They usually last 90-120 minutes and allow you to choose most things on the menu. 通常つうじょう90分きゅうじゅっぷん〜120分ひゃくにじゅっぷんのコースで、ほとんどのメニューを選えらぶことができます。 If you order something that isn't included in the course, it will be added onto your bill. コースに含ふくまれないメニューを注文ちゅうもんすると、会計かいけいに追加ついかされます。 The server will generally explain what you can and cannot order with the courses. また、コースで注文ちゅうもんできるもの、できないものについては、店員てんいんさんが説明せつめいしてくれます。 The prices for these courses vary by izakaya, but both tabehoudai and nomihoudai generally cost somewhere around ¥2,000-¥3,000+. これらのコースの値段ねだんは居酒屋いざかやによって異ことなりますが、食たべ放題ほうだいと飲のみ放題ほうだいの価格かかくは、それぞれ2,000円えんから3,000円えんぐらいが一般的いっぱんてきです。 Some izakaya even offer a "tabe-nomihoudai" (食べ飲み放題) course which combines them into an "all-you-can-eat-and-drink" course. また、居酒屋いざかやによっては、食たべ放題ほうだいと飲のみ放題ほうだいを合あわせた「食たべ飲のみ放題ほうだい」コースがあります。 You can expect this to cost around ¥4,000-¥5,000+. この場合ばあい、4,000~5,000円えんぐらいかかるかもしれません。 Something to keep in mind when ordering these courses is that, in general, if one person orders it, everyone has to order it. これらのコースを注文ちゅうもんするときに気きを付つけることは、一般的いっぱんてきに、一人ひとりが注文ちゅうもんしたら、全員ぜんいんが注文ちゅうもんしなければならないということです。 This is to prevent one person from getting the course and sharing their food or drinks with everybody else. これは、一人ひとりが注文ちゅうもんした「食たべ放題ほうだい」「飲のみ放題ほうだい」メニューを、他たの人ひとにシェアしないための工夫くふうです。 There are some places that don't require everyone to order the course, but these restaurants are not common. なかには全員ぜんいんが注文ちゅうもんしなくてもいいというお店みせもありますが、一般的いっぱんてきにはありません。 Paying the Bill at an Izakaya in Japan 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやでの支払しはらいについて Photo:Staff taking payment at a table(写真しゃしん:席せきで会計かいけいをする居酒屋店員いざかやてんいん) When paying your bill at an izakaya in Japan, just like when ordering, it's commonplace to call the staff over with "sumimasen!" 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやで会計かいけいをしたいときは、注文ちゅうもんするときと同おなじように、「すみません!」と店員てんいんを呼よぶのが一般的いっぱんてきです。 The easiest phrase for telling the server you want to pay your bill is "okaikei onegaishimasu" (お会計お願いします, Check, please). お会計かいけいをお願ねがいするための決きまり文句もんくは「お会計かいけいお願ねがいします」 If you say this, they'll have the bill at your table in no time. この言葉ことばを言いえば、店員てんいんさんがお会計かいけいをすぐにテーブルまで持もってきてくれます。 You'll either pay the bill at your table and the staff will bring you your change, or you bring the bill to the register to pay. Every izakaya is different. テーブルで会計かいけいを済すませる場合ばあい、店みせのレジで会計かいけいをする場合ばあいがありますが、お店みせによって違ちがいます。 Another important thing to note when paying at izakaya is that most places will not allow you to split the bill. もう1つ居酒屋いざかやで払はらうときに覚おぼえておきたいことは、ほとんどのお店みせで個別こべつで支払しはらうことはできません。 This is because it's not clear who ate what sometimes, and if there's a large group of people it can take a lot of time to pay. 理由りゆうは、居酒屋いざかやでは個人こじんが何なにを食たべたかが分わかりにくくて、大だい人数にんずうの個別こべつの会計かいけいは時間じかんがかかるからです。 To avoid these problems, most izakaya require that groups pay together. このような問題もんだいが起おこらないように、ほとんどの居酒屋いざかやでは、グループごとに会計かいけいをしています。 Tokyo? Some of the most popular izakaya in Japan are oden, hot pot, and yakitori. 様々さまざまなメニューがある日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやですが、中なかには、おでん、焼やき鳥とり、鍋なべなどがメインの専門店せんもんてんもあります。 Oden izakaya serve mainly oden, a type of a type of hot pot dish that often uses ingredients like chikuwa, konjac, daikon, eggs, etc. おでんの居酒屋いざかやは、ちくわ、こんにゃく、大根だいこん、卵たまごなどを使つかった「おでん」という鍋料理なべりょうりがメインです。 Hot pot izakaya serve mostly boiled dishes that you cook at your own pace while eating. 鍋なべの居酒屋いざかやは、食たべながら自分じぶんのペースで調理ちょうりする煮物にもの料理りょうりを提供ていきょうします。 Yakitori izakaya focus on grilled chicken skewers that the chef usually cooks over a charcoal grill over the counter. そして、焼やき鳥とりの居酒屋いざかやは、カウンターの上うえにある炭火すみびで焼やいた鶏肉けいにくの串焼くしやきがメインです。 Thus, there are many izakaya that focus on a specific dish. このように、ある特定とくていのメニューがメインの居酒屋いざかやも多おおくあります。 Summary of Izakaya in Japan 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやまとめ This was our introduction to Japan's izakaya culture. 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかや文化ぶんかについて解説かいせつしました。 Be sure to reference it when you visit an izakaya in Japan. 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやを利用りようする際さいに参考さんこうにしてください。 Besides standard izakaya, there are many different types that specialize in a specific menu item. 居酒屋いざかやには、一般いっぱん的てきな居酒屋いざかやのほかに、特とく化かしたメニューがある居酒屋いざかやもたくさんあります。 Trying different izakaya and ordering all sorts of different foods and drinks is one of the best things about them. 様々さまざまな料理りょうりや飲のみ物ものを注文ちゅうもんできるのが居酒屋いざかやの醍醐味だいごみの1つです。 Izakaya can be found all across Japan and are best enjoyed with friends, but you can also enjoy them alone as well! 日本全国にっぽんぜんこくにある居酒屋いざかやは、友人ゆうじんと一緒いっしょに行いくのが楽たのしいですが、一人ひとりでも楽たのしめます! Video introduction of "Hamamatsu Castle" in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, a famous castle in Japan. This is an informational video titled "One of Japan's Top 100 Castles|Hamamatsu Castle|Shizuoka Prefecture" (続日本100名城 浜松城 静岡県 Hamamatsu Castle), that introduces Hamamatsu Castle in Shizuoka Prefecture, which has been selected as one of "Japan's Top 100 Castles." It is published by "castle shrine." A popular theory is that Hamamatsu Castle, in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, was built around the 15th century by Sadasuke Imagawa as a Hikuma Castle. Later on, Tokugawa Ieyasu entered the castle and it became a point of interest among historians. In this article, we'll explore the history of Hamamatsu Castle and look at some of its highlights! What Kind of Castle Is Hamamatsu Castle? Photo:Hamamatsu Castle Hamamatsu Castle is also called "Shusse castle" due to many of the successive lords becoming executive officers of the Edo Shogunate one after another. (出世, or Shusse, roughly means "Success in life" in Japanese, making the rough translation "Castle of Success"). In 1570, Tokugawa Ieyasu entered the castle to prepare for the invasion of Takeda Shingen, and renamed the castle Hamamatsu Castle. After the Battle of Mikatagahara and the Battle of Sekigahara, the castle became the residence of the feudal lords of the Tokugawa family of the Edo shogunate, and the castle was passed down to the twenty-two generations of the nine families. What to Do at Hamamatsu Castle! Photo:Tenshu-mon Gate, Hamamatsu Castle The area around the castle tower at Hamamatsu Castle is independent from the main castle tower and is called "Tenshu Guruwa." On the east side is the castle gate, which can be seen at 1:37 in the video. Hamamatsu Castle was originally an earthen castle without stone walls or tiled buildings. Another feature of Hamamatsu Castle is that the castle is built on a pile of natural, unprocessed stones. Be sure to climb the castle tower and enjoy the view of Hamamatsu city as well. Inside the castle tower, which you can see at 2:50 in the video, you can see treasures such as armor and firearms. You can also receive the castle seal and red seal, and see a realistic statue of Ieyasu. Sightseeing Around Hamamatsu Castle Photo:Hamamatsu Castle Park The area around Hamamatsu Castle is Hamamatsu Castle Park. It is a place of relaxation for citizens and tourists alike. Video Introduction of "Nangu Taisha" in Fuwa-gun, Gifu Prefecture, Japan This video, titled "【美濃国一宮】南宮大社 - Nangu Taisha Shrine in GIFU, JAPAN -," was created by "channel WASABI." Nangu Taisha Shrine is a shrine with a long history, located in Gifu Prefecture's Fuwa District, in the Tokai region of Japan. The locals affectionately call the shrine "Nangu-san" (なんぐうさん). There are 18 archaeological remnants of buildings from the Edo Period within the grounds and these are designated as Important Cultural Properties. Nangu Taisha Shrine is also known as "Tsubaki Taisha Shrine" as camellias burst into bloom in spring (椿, tsubaki = camellia). The various varieties of camellias are stunningly beautiful, so you should definitely take a look. The shrine is a tourist destination near the ancient battlefield of Sekigahara. In this article, we'll use the video as a guide to introduce the shrine. What is Nangu Taisha Shrine? Photo:Nangu Taisha Shrine, Gifu Prefecture Nangu Taisha Shrine is located at the foot of Mt. Nangu in western Gifu prefecture. It's said that the shrine was named "Nangu" due to it being "a palace located in the south of the capital" (南宮, Nangu - lit. "Southern Palace"). The shrine's enshrined deity is "Kanayamahiko-no-kami" (金山彦命), the god of mining. Therefore, from the past and even in the modern era, Nangu Taisha Shrine has been the main shrine of the mining and metal industry nationwide. Furthermore, "Kanayamahiko-no-kami" is also known for being the elder brother of Amaterasu Omikami (天照大神) of Ise Jingu Shrine (伊勢神宮). As Nangu Taisha Shrine's enshrined deity is the god of mining, the shrine is believed to bring good fortune and victory, making it a popular place of worship for those preparing for entrance exams or praying for success. It's also famous as a place to pray for safe child delivery. The history of Nangu Taisha Shrine Photo:Nangu Taisha Shrine, Gifu Prefecture According to the shrine’s written history, it was built during the time of Emperor Sujin. In the mid Heian Period, the shrine is listed in the Engishiki Jinmyocho (延喜式神名帳, register of shrines in Japan) as "Minonokuni Fuwa-gun Nakayama Kanayamahiko Jinja" (美濃国不破郡 仲山金山彦神社), alongside other famous shrines. The shrine was also known as "Minonokuni Ichinomiya" (美濃国一宮) at one point. In April 1501, a fire broke out, leading to the main hall and the priests' quarters being burnt down. Reconstruction was carried out by the shrine's guardian Toki Masafusa (土岐政房), and was completed in 1511. In 1600, the shrine was once again destroyed by fire in the Battle of Sekigahara and was rebuilt by Tokugawa Iemitsu in 1642. A valuable record of the shrine exists, which lists the costs and various other details regarding the rebuilding of the shrine. This record has been designated as an Important Cultural Property.
