Introducing Matsue Castle! This video is titled "[Remastered] Matsue Castle - Shimane - 松江城." Produced by "TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful," it introduces Matsue Castle in Shimane prefecture. Matsue Castle is one of the 5 castles of Japan that are designated as national treasures. The majestic castle has an aura of history surrounding it and is a popular sightseeing destination in Shimane prefecture. In this article, we'll introduce Shimane prefecture’s Matsue Castle alongside with the video. About Matsue Castle Photo:Shimane prefecture・Matsue Castle Matsue Castle, introduced in the video, is a hirayama-style castle built in 1611. Horio Yoshiharu, Kyougoku Tadataka, Matsudaira Naomasa, and Matsudaira Harusato were lords of this castle. The castle has two names, and is often called "Chidori Castle." Famed for the only existing castle tower in the San-in region, Matsue Castle is built on the small Kameda Mountain, overlooking the beautiful Shinji Lake. Besides Matsue Castle, 5 more castles, including Inuyama Castle, Matsumoto Castle, Hikone Castle, and Himeji castle, are all designated as national treasures of Japan. Matsue Castle is designated as a national historical ruin as well as being chosen as one of the top 100 cherry blossom spots in Japan and one of the top 100 beautiful cityscapes. The History of Matsue Castle Photo:Matsue Castle in Spring In the Edo period (1603-1868), Matsue Castle served as the government office of the Matsue clan in the Edo Shogunate. However, because of the ordinance of "One Domain, One Castle," in the Meiji era (1868-1912), most of the castle, besides the wooden castle tower, was dismantled. Later on, the outer citadel tower and stone walls were reconstructed; and in the early years of the Showa era, the castle hillside area was opened to the public as a park. At 0:39 in the video, you can see Matsue Castle at the center of Matsue Shiroyama Park. Attached to the castle tower, there are connecting towers called Tsuke-yagura (lit. attached tower). The brattices, paulownia staircases, and wrapping boards called Tsutsumi-ita that protected the pillars were all distinctive features of the castle. It is said that there were many failed attempts when building the stone walls for the castle tower and there is also an urban legend that tells of men sacrificing themselves and becoming human pillars. Things to Note When Sightseeing at Matsue Castle Photo:Matsue Castle・Moat cruise During the fall season, there is an illumination event at Matsue Castle, and you can see the beautiful autumn colors. On New Year’s, the area is packed with people waiting to see the first sunrise of the year. After visiting Matsue Castle, enjoy lunch at a café in the castle town where the samurai residences still remain, or take a cruise around the moat of Matsue Castle on the Horikawa River on a sightseeing boat. Summary of Matsue Castle Photo:Shimane prefecture・Matsue Castle It takes about 1 hour to see everything at the castle, including the castle tower and connecting towers, the well, and Matsue Castle Park. About the Video on Heian Shrine This video, titled “Heian Shrine - Kyoto - 平安神宮,” was released by “TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful.” It showcases the dignified Heian Shrine in Kyoto. The contrast between the dark green roof and vermilion walls of Heian Shrine is beautiful, and it's a hot spot for Instagrammers. What kind of place is the popular destination in Kyoto? The Origins and History of Heian Shrine Photo:Soryuro at Heian Shrine, Kyoto Heian Shrine (平安神宮) was built in 1895 as the main attraction of the National Industrial Exposition held to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the relocation of the capital. The name "Heian Shrine" comes from a plan to partially restore the inner sanctum of Heian Palace at the time of the capital's relocation. Heian Shrine was founded as a shrine dedicated to Emperor Kammu (桓武天皇), the 50th emperor of Japan, and Emperor Komei (孝明天皇) was later added as a deity. A Closer Look at the Majestic Heian Shrine Photo:Soryuro at Heian Shrine, Kyoto The main building of the shrine is a reconstruction of Kyoto's Chodoin Temple (朝堂院), which was reduced in size (about five eighths in length). After passing Keiryu Bridge (慶流橋) and the torii gate (registered as a national cultural property), the symbol of Okazaki in Kyoto, and entering the vermilion Otenmon Gate (応天門), you'll be welcomed by majestic buildings, such as the main shrine Daigokuden (大極殿, an important cultural property), the inner shrine with its beautiful hanging lanterns, Ryubidan (龍尾壇, an important cultural property), and the towers Soryuro (蒼龍楼) and Byakkoro (白虎楼) (important cultural properties). Within the precincts of the temple, there are also buildings such as the Kagura Hall (神楽殿) and Gakuden (額殿) (registered as national cultural properties), Otenmon Gate (important cultural property), and Shobikan (尚美館, a guest house). The Heian Jingu Shrine Event Hall (平安神宮会館) is also used as a venue for weddings. The Highlights and Events of Heian Shrine Photo:Heian Shrine, Kyoto The Heian Shrine Garden, created in the Meiji Period by the famous Japanese garden architect Ogawa Jihei VII (小川治兵衛) and others, is a Japanese garden with an area of about 10,000 tsubo (~30,000 square meters). The four gardens, located in the east, center, west, and south, are a "pond garden" with a spectacular view of cherry blossoms in spring, irises in early summer, and beautiful autumn foliage in the fall. In addition to the Festival of the Ages, one of the three major festivals in Kyoto, Heian Shrine also hosts seasonal events, such as Takigi Noh (a Noh play), so be sure to check them out as well. Summary of Heian Shrine Photo:Otenmon Gate at Heian Shrine, Kyoto Heian Shrine, featured in the video, is one of the most popular and famous tourist attractions in Kyoto. Be sure to pick up a marriage talisman or shuin stamp when you visit Heian Shrine. There are many Japanese restaurants and cafes around Heian Shrine, which makes it a fulfilling sightseeing experience. An Introductory Video of Sanjusangendo, One of Kyoto's Leading Sightseeing Destinations This video, titled "Sanjusangendo, Kyoto in 4K - Japan As It Truly Is" (Sanjusangendo, Kyoto in 4K - 三十三間堂 京都 - Japan As It Truly Is), was uploaded by "The Japan FAQ." It Introduces Sanjusangendo, a popular tourist destination in Kyoto, located in Japan's Kansai Region. Sanjusangendo is a historical tourist attraction that many students in Kyoto visit on field trips. The temple is a National Treasure and an Important Cultural Property, and is also known for its many annual events. This article will introduce highlights of and tourist information about Sanjusangendo. Sightseeing Information for Sanjusangendo, a Popular Sightseeing Destination in Kyoto Photo:The east gate at Sanjusangendo, Higashiyama, Kyoto Sanjusangendo is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Tendai sect of Buddhism, and is located in Sanjusangendo-Mawaramachi, in Higashiyama, Kyoto. It is located in the Higashiyama Shichijo area of Kyoto and is surrounded by many historical tourist attractions, including Hokoji Temple, Toyokuni Shrine, and the Kyoto National Museum. Regarding transportation, Sanjusangendo is conveniently located approximately 10 minutes by bus from JR Kyoto Station. There is also a parking lot available for those coming by car. There is an admission fee to enter the temple, and the average time required to visit and tour the temple is about 45 minutes. That being said, there are many attractions to see at Sanjusangendo, so we recommend setting aside adequate time to view everything the temple has to offer. History and Highlights of Sanjusangendo Photo:The Japanese garden at Sanjusangendo, Kyoto The video begins at the gate of Sanjusangendo and starts by introducing the Japanese garden located on the temple grounds. There are hydrangeas in bloom in the beautiful, well-maintained garden, which was designed as a strolling garden with a lovely pond located at its center by professional Japanese garden landscapers. Shown at 1:33 in the video is the main hall of Rengeo-in (Sanjusangendo), which has been designated as a National Treasure. The main hall is 120 meters long from north to south and has 33 spaces between the pillars, which is why it is called Sanjusangendo (三十三間堂, roughly "The Hall of 33 Intervals," because there are 33 intervals between the building's support columns). Sanjusangendo was built by Emperor Go-Shirakawa in the late Heian Period, but was destroyed by fire and the current building was rebuilt in 1266 during the Kamakura Period. In order to make Sanjusangendo resistant to earthquakes and fires, various seismic isolation methods have been employed, such as connecting the pillars with two beams. From 2:26 in the video, the inner hall of Sanjusangendo is introduced. There are a total of 1,001 statues of Kannon, Fujin and Raijin, the gods of wind and thunder respectively, as well as 28 Buddhist statues enshrined in the hall. The standing statues of the thousand-armed Kannon (Goddess of Mercy), designated as National Treasures are lined up in a row and are a sight to behold. It is said that among the statues there is always a Buddhist statue with a face that looks like you, or one that resembles the face of the person you wish to meet. Be sure to take your time looking… Then, shown at 2:37, you can see the 3-meter-tall seated statue of the Thousand-armed Kannon, also designated as a national treasure. The statue has 42 hands, representing the "thousand arms," but because it is difficult to sculpt such a statue 42 arms are sculpted instead, 2 of which form the Mudra of Veneration while the remaining 40 represent the 25 Buddhist worlds. Other attractions include Taikobei and Nandaimon Gate, which were donated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Annual Events at Sanjusangendo Photo:Omato Taikai, Sanjusangendo The most well-known events held at Sanjusangendo are "Yanagi no Okaji," a ritual involving holy water, and "Omato Taikai," a coming-of-age archery competition, both of which are associated with "Toshiya." Both of these events are held on Sundays around January 15th, and are always crowded with people. During "Omato Taikai," approximately 2,000 fresh adults loose arrows at a distance of 120 meters in the main hall. "Yanagi no Okaji" is a ritual of praying to the goddess of mercy with a toothpick and pouring water over worshippers to remove various illnesses, and is said to be particularly effective in preventing headaches. "Shunto-e" a spring festival held every year on March 3, is also a popular event, with flower exhibitions and performances, and peach charms for women. Summary of Sanjusangendo, One of Kyoto's Foremost Tourist Attractions This video, titled "Sanjusangendo, Kyoto in 4K - Japan As It Truly Is," introduces Sanjusangendo (Rengeo-in), a Buddhist Temple and one of Kyoto's leading sightseeing destinations. Even in Kyoto, where there are many National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, Toji Temple has a unique presence. Please enjoy the video to get an idea of what the temple is actually like. Toji Temple - Exploring One of Japan's Representative National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties! Photo:Toji Temple, Kyoto Toji Temple in Kyoto is a relic of the Heian Period (794-1185 A.D.). Founded in the 3rd year of the Tencho Era (826 A.D.) it is now a representative temple of the neo-Buddhist movement and Esoteric Buddhism, built by the then Emperor Saga, who asked the monk Kukai, known posthumously as Kobo Daishi, to build it. The precincts of Toji Temple are full of representative Japanese facilities, such as the five-story pagoda, Kondo Hall (金堂), Nandaimon (南大門, main gate), Todaimon (東大門, east gate), Jikido Hall (食堂), and many other sights. The precincts of the temple, with their elaborate arrangement, have been given the name "mandala." The five-story pagoda has burned down four times in the past due to lightning strikes, and has been rebuilt each time. The current five-storied pagoda is the fifth generation, built in 1644 with contributions from Tokugawa Iemitsu, the grandson of the famous warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu. Here, we'll introduce some basic information and things to know when visiting Toji Temple. It is located within walking distance from any train after getting off at the nearby Toji Station or Kyoto Station. Parking is also available, so you can also access the temple via personal transportation. Some facilities require an entrance fee, which is about 800 yen for adults. You can get shuin stamps and good luck charms, and there are many events, such as Kobo Ichi (Kobo Market), so it's well worth a visit. Toji Temple - Rich Cultural Heritage and a Sacred Site for Esoteric Buddhism! Photo:Miedo Hall, Toji Temple, Kyoto As it is named Toji Temple (東寺, lit. "East Temple"), there used to be a Saiji Temple (西寺, lit. "West Temple"), but as time passed, Saiji Temple declined. Later, it was officially named Kyo-o-gokokuji Temple and became a sacred place for Esoteric Buddhism. The temple is very rich in Esoteric Buddhist art and culture. The lecture hall has an extraordinary world view, with esoteric sculptures such as the Katsuma Mandala, a seated statue of the Five Buddhas, the Five Great Bodhisattvas, the Five Wisdom Kings, a seated statue of Brahma and the half-lotus of Sakra, and standing statues of the Four Heavenly Kings, all elaborately arranged. Another famous attraction is Miedo Hall (御影堂), which was the residence of the famous Buddhist monk Kukai (Kobo Daishi). The historical buildings and the magnificent Esoteric Buddhist art are a must-see. The fact that it has been designated as a World Heritage Site indicates its prestige. There is also Bishamondo Temple, known for Keigamon Gate, and a power spot where a rare deity, the god of rain, is enshrined, as well a the place where the power stone, "Tenkoseki" (天降石), sits. The depth of its culture is second to none, and it's no wonder that it has been recognized as a World Heritage Site. Summary of Toji Temple in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture As you can see in the video, there are many noteworthy buildings and remnants to explore at Toji Temple in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Tokyo's popular sightseeing spot: Meiji Jingu This 4-minute long video, titled "Meiji-Jingu – Tokyo - 4K Ultra HD," was released by "Tokyo Street View – Japan The Beautiful." It is an introductory video of Meiji Jingu and introduces the highlights of the magnificent shrine. Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine) is a shrine located in the Yoyogi area of Tokyo's Shibuya ward (渋谷区代々木), which attracts many tourists from both inside and outside of Japan and is a spot you should definitely add to your itinerary when traveling in Tokyo. It is the most popular shrine in Japan for "hatsumode" (初詣, the first shrine visit of the year), with more visitors each year than any other shrine in Japan. It is also a popular spot for weddings and other celebrations, such as "Shichi-Go-San" (七五三). In the opening of the video, you can see the giant torii gate made from a 1,500 year old Japanese cypress tree. If you take a look at the view from beyond the torii gate, you'll see why this shrine was selected as one of the top 20 sightseeing spots in Japan by the Michelin Guide. Passing Through Meiji Jingu's Torii Gate Photo:Meiji Jingu, Tokyo The giant torii gate found at Meiji Jingu is the largest of its kind in Japan. Beyond the gate there is a small bridge and on the left hand side you can see many decorative sake barrels. Different brands have been gathered from all over Japan, and it makes for a very impressive display. Emperor Meiji was also known to enjoy drinking wine, and interestingly, many French wine barrels can also be found at the entrance to the shrine. Be sure to stay on the lookout for them when you visit. They can be seen at 0:33 in the video. After passing through the south gate (Minami Shinmon (南神門)) the main shrine will come into sight. From 2:21 in the video, you can see the famous tree known as Meoto Kusu (夫婦楠) which is believed to bring good luck in marriage, as well as many Ema boards. If you look at the wall, you will see many beautiful "kakizome" (書初め, the first calligraphy of the year). A Cafe in a Power Spot?! The History of Meiji Jingu's Inner Garden and Recommended Spots Photo:Irises in the Garden Meiji Jingu consists of the inner garden in Shibuya, which has a shrine and the shrine's grounds, and the outer garden in Shinjuku Ward, which has sports and cultural facilities. Meiji Jingu, was built on November 1st, 1920 in honor of the 122nd emperor of Japan, Emperor Meiji (明治天皇) and his wife Empress Shoken (昭憲皇太后). With a surface area equivalent to 15 Tokyo Domes, Inori no Mori (祈りの社) has been donated 100,000 trees from all over the country in an effort to increase the beautiful natural surroundings of the area. The area is scattered with spots you'll want to snap a picture of to post and share on social media! Another highlight of Meiji Jingu is its Imperial Garden (明治神宮御苑) which in June is covered with blossoming Japanese Irises. "Kiyomasa's Well" (清正の井戸) is a famous power spot inside the garden, and in recent years an increasing number of people are using the image as a wallpaper on their phones in the hope that it will bring them good luck. Other famous spots around Meiji Jingu include the turtle-shaped rock "Kameishi" (亀石) and the martial arts building "Shiseikan" (至誠館). If you're interested in learning more about the history of Meiji Jingu, we highly recommend visiting the adjacent Meiji Shrine Museum (明治神宮ミュージアム). For lunch, we recommend the delicious sandwiches served at Cafe Mori no Terrace (CAFÉ 杜のテラス). Meiji Jingu is open from sunrise to sunset, therefore the opening times vary depending on the time of year. Please check the official website for more information regarding hours. You can also find information on shrine etiquette and "Go-shuin" (御朱印) on the same website. Gingko Trees in Fall - Meiji Jingu's Outer Garden Photo:Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue Meiji Jingu's outer garden features a variety of sports facilities, including a driving range, tennis court, and baseball field. Access to the area is great, and there's also a hotel parking lot in the vicinity. Many baseball competitions are held at Meiji Jingu Baseball Stadium, which is home to the Yakult Swallows, as well as the annual Jingu Gaien Fireworks Festival (神宮外苑花火大会). A spot we highly recommend in the outer garden area is the row of Gingko trees leading up to the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery (聖徳記念絵画館). In November, just as the leaves are turning red, the whole area is lit up making it a great place to take a photo. Every year, more than 1.8 million people take part in the Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Festival (神宮外苑 いちょう祭り). Meiji Jingu Summary Photo:Meiji Jingu We hope you enjoyed this introductory video featuring the highlights of Meiji Jingu's inner and outer gardens. Exploring the History of Nanao Castle Photo:Nanao Castle inner bailey ruins, Nanao, Ishikawa Nanao Castle is a mountain castle with a "kuruwa" (castle wall) on each of the seven ridges: Matsuo, Takeo, Umeo, Kikuo, Kameo, Torao, Tatsuo. There are still references that show it was also referred to as "Matsuo Castle," written both "松尾城" and "末尾城" (same pronunciation different kanji/spelling). Nanao Castle was built in the first half of the 16th century as the residence of the Hatakeyama Clan, a Japanese samurai clan who governed the province of Noto. It is a fortified castle that is said to be one of the Five Great Mountain Castles of Japan, and it fell after a roughly year-long battle with Uesugi Kenshin's forces. After that, Oda Nobunaga appointed Maeda Toshiie as Lord of Noto giving him the castle, however, after Toshiie moved to Kanazawa Castle, Nanao Castle was abandoned. Nanao Castle - Highlights and Tourist Information Photo:The view from Nanao Castle, Nanao, Ishikawa Nanao Castle is a large mountain castle. Highlights of Nanao Castle include the many stone walls that remain in nearly the same condition they were in hundreds of years ago, as well as the scenery of Nanao Bay and the Noto Peninsula which can be seen from the top of the mountain. The climbing route to reach Nanao Castle is covered with wood chips, but we recommended wearing shoes that are easy to walk in. If you want to climb from the foot of the mountain, you can use the Nanao Castle Trailhead Parking Lot (七尾城登山口駐車場), or you can park your car in the parking lot of the Nanao Castle History Museum and purchase a Nanao Castle Seal Stamp or a memorial stamp of the Top 100 Castles of Japan before starting your hike. At the Nanao Castle History Museum, visitors can explore exhibits such as excavated items related to Nanao Castle and reconstructions of Nanao Castle via computer generated architecture. In addition, the Nationally Registered Cultural Property "Kaikokan" (the former Iida family residence), which is adjacent to the museum, is another tourist attraction worth checking out. The time required to climb the mountain is about ~40 minutes from the parking lot of the Nanao Castle History Museum, following the formerly used road to the honmaru (inner citadel) ruins. There is also a 150-minute course for those looking to really explore and conquer the vast grounds of Nanao Castle. Photo:Nanao Station If you visit Nanao Castle via public transportation, you can reach the Nanao Castle History Museum from "Nanao Station" on the JR Nanao Line by taking the city circuit bus "Marin-go" (まりん号) and getting off at "Joyama no Sato" (城山の里). From there it's about a 60-minute walk. The stone wall of the Sakurababa Bailey Ruins above Chodo-maru (a former weapon's warehouse) is shown at 0:40 in the video, and the stone wall of the Honmaru Ruins at 2:42 are some of the highlights of Nanao Castle. There's also a shrine in the honmaru, and the scenery you can see from the Nanao Joyama Observatory, which is known to have been praised by Uesugi Kenshin, is shown at 3:52 in the video. Summary of the Nanao Castle Ruins This video, titled "Nanao Castle in ISHIKAWA, JAPAN / #34 of the Top 100 Castles of Japan|4K," introduces Nanao Castle, a formerly impregnable mountain castle in Ishikawa Prefecture, in beautiful 4K. In addition, Korakuen Garden was built when the Ikeda Clan ruled the castle, and visitors can still feel the relaxing atmosphere of that time. Therefore, from the past and even in the modern era, Nangu Taisha Shrine has been the main shrine of the mining and metal industry nationwide. The shrine was also known as "Minonokuni Ichinomiya" (美濃国一宮) at one point. In April 1501, a fire broke out, leading to the main hall and the priests' quarters being burnt down. Reconstruction was carried out by the shrine's guardian Toki Masafusa (土岐政房), and was completed in 1511. In 1600, the shrine was once again destroyed by fire in the Battle of Sekigahara and was rebuilt by Tokugawa Iemitsu in 1642. A valuable record of the shrine exists, which lists the costs and various other details regarding the rebuilding of the shrine. This record has been designated as an Important Cultural Property. Aizuwakamatsu Castle, located in Otemachi, Aizuwakamatsu city, Fukuoka prefecture, is known locally by its other name, Tsuruga Castle. Other than being chosen as one of the "Top 100 Castles of Japan," it was also chosen as one of "Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots," due to there being approximately 1,000 cherry blossom trees in Tsuruga Castle Park, which was built on the castle ruins. During the cherry blossom season, there are illumination events held here, and many tourists come to visit the castle. In this article, we'll introduce the highlights, history, and tourist information for Aizuwakamatsu Castle. The video shows the magnificent stone wall, castle tower, and inside the grounds of the Aizuwakamatsu Castle. Be sure to follow along as you read the article! Aizuwakamatsu Castle: The History of the Castle Photo:Aizuwakamatsu Castle Aizuwakamatsu Castle is said to have originated when Ashina Naomori built the Higashi Kurokawa Yakata in 1384. At that time, it was known as Kurokawa Castle or Odakagi Castle; however, when Gamo Ujisato became castle lord, a castle tower was built, and it came to be known as Tsuruga Castle. It is known as an impregnable castle due to withstanding the onslaught of the new government forces for a month, despite the tragedy of the Byakkotai during the Boshin war, following the rule of the Aizu clan. In the 7th year of Meiji (1874), it was demolished leaving only the stone wall. However, in the 40th year of Showa (1965), it was reconstructed, and in the 23rd year of the Heisei (2011), the thatch was replaced with red tiles as part of a restoration project, making it the only red-tile castle tower in Japan. A shachi (mythical carp with the head of a lion and the body of a fish) is raised above the castle tower, and 2-carat diamonds are embedded in the center of its eyes. It is also designated as a national historic site under the name of Wakamatsu Castle Ruins. Highlights of Aizuwakamatsu Castle Photo:Aizuwakamatsu Castle Mushabashiri First up is the Kitademaru Otemon gate, which was built using large stones and can be seen at 0:20 in the video. Next up is Tsubakisaka and the stone wall of Taikomon Gate. The stairs which are built into the stone wall are called “Mushabashiri” and can be seen at 1:17 and 3:05 of the footage, are said to be built so that soldiers can intercept and engage enemies through quick asccess to the top of the wall. From the castle tower, which can be seen at 2:01 in the video, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the cityscape of Aizuwakamatsu. The Tetsumon Gate, which can be seen from the castle tower, is shown at 2:09. The name Tetsumon comes from the surface being plated with iron (鉄, "Tetsu" is iron in Japanese). Another highlight is the natural stone wall of Rokabashi Bridge. Sightseeing Information for Aizuwakamatsu Castle Source :YouTube screenshot At the beginning of the video, we are introduced to Aizuwakamatsu Station on the JR Banetsu West Line. To get to Aizuwakamatsu Castle, take the "Haikara-san" bus from Aizuwakamatsu station, get off at Tsuruga Castle Entrance, and from there, it's a 5 minute walk. There's also a paid parking lot. The main approach to the shrine, the fifth torii gate, Shinmon gate, the kagura hall, and the ceremony hall, all of which can be seen from 0:20 in the video, are also places we recommend stopping by when visiting Hakone Shrine. Popular spots that you won't want to pass up are Anzu-sugi (a cedar tree to pray for safe childbirth), Soga Shrine, the fourth torii gate, the Kagura Repository, the lake-bottom tree, the Ebisu Shrine, and the torii of peace. The History of Hakone Shrine and When It Was Built Photo:Ryujinsui at Kuzuryu Shrine, Kanagawa Prefecture Hakone Shrine has a long history, and it is even mentioned in books from the Kamakura Period (~1185-1333 AD). Many warlords have visited and worshipped in Hakone. In particular, Minamoto no Yoritomo is said to have worshipped at Hakone Shrine. It was burned down once by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but the shrine’s main building was rebuilt by Tokugawa Ieyasu. A new shrine, which can be seen at 3:03 in the video, was built at Kuzuryu Shrine and many people still come to visit it today. Introducing Kongobuji Temple on the Mystical Koyasan This video, titled "Kongobuji Temple - Wakayama - 金剛峯寺 - 4K Ultra HD," was created by "TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful." The video shows the famous spiritual area, Kongobuji Temple. During the Heian period (794-1185), the monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai) founded a religious city on Koyasan (Mt. Koya) in Wakayama Prefecture. Kongobuji Temple, located in the city, is the head temple of the Shingon Buddhism sect, and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range. You can learn more about the temple through this video. The History of Kongobuji Temple Photo:Koyasan Kongobuji Temple From 0:15 in the video, you can see a stunning view of the temple bathed in autumn foliage. A view like this can hardly be done justice even in 4K resolution. The history of Kongobuji Temple goes all the way back to the year 835 during the Heian period, when the monk Kukai first entered Koyasan. After working hard to study Buddhism and receiving the posthumous name of "Kobo Daishi," he founded Kongobuji Temple on the mountain. Gradually, the area developed into a religious city. Visiting the temple now, you can view the Main Hall, as well as the main shrine housing the principal deity. Banryu Garden (蟠龍庭, banryu-tei), shown from 2:45 in the video, was created using beautifully shaped granite from the Shikoku region of Japan. This is one of the largest rock gardens in Japan. In addition, you can view the fusama paintings of the Nihonga painter Hiroshi Senju, and even get a shuin stamp in their likeness. Other Attractions on Koyasan Photo:Kongobuji Temple's Kondo Hall, Wakayama Prefecture Besides Kongobuji Temple, there are many other Buddhist temples and pagodas, such as the Konpon Daito Pagoda (根本大塔). Incidentally, the name "Head Temple Kongobuji Temple" refers to the entirety of Koyasan. The Main Hall of Mount Koya is known as "Kondo Hall" (金堂, lit. Golden Hall). There are also smaller temples scattered around the mountain, known as "Tachu" (塔頭). If you stay overnight in the temple lodgings, you'll be able to try some Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, known as shojin ryori (精進料理), experience morning prayer rituals, and take your time visiting the numerous Buddhist statues on the mountain. The admission fee for Kongobuji Temple is ¥1000 for junior high school students and above, and ¥300 for elementary school students. You can also purchase a set ticket for all the main areas on the mountain, namely Kongobuji Temple, Kondo Hall, Konpon Daito Pagoda, and the Tokugawa Clan Mausoleum. Access to Koyasan Photo:A cable car at Koyasan, Wakayama Prefecture By train, the most convenient route is to take the Nankai-Koya Line (南海高野線, nankai koya sen) from Namba Station (難波駅, nanba-eki) in Osaka to Gokurakuji Station (極楽寺駅, gokurakuji-eki). From there, take the cable car to Mount Koya. By car, the mountain is accessible via the highway. Parking is available at Koyasan, but due to the high possibility of crowds during holiday seasons, it's generally more convenient to use public transportation. Summary of Kongobuji Temple Photo:Danjo Temple Koyasan in Wakayama Prefecture is not only a World Heritage Site but also a world-famous tourist destination. After watching the video of Koyasan, don't you feel the urge to visit and see the sights in person? By the way, Koyasan is 800m above sea level, leading to cool temperatures in the evening even during summer. Because of this, we recommend wearing warmer clothing when visiting the mountain. 【Official Website】Koyasan Shingon Sect Kongobuji Temple https://www.koyasan.or.jp/en/ 【Tripadvisor】Kongobuji Temple https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1121341-d324935-Reviews-Kongobu_ji_Temple-Koya_cho_Ito_gun_Wakayama_Prefecture_Kinki.html -
