Kosanji Temple & Kosanji Museum: Video Introduction Photo:The main hall of Kosanji Temple in Onomichi, Hiroshima This video, titled "Kosanji Temple & Museum and the Hill of Hope, Setoda, Hiroshima" (耕三寺博物館と未来心の丘、広島県三原市瀬戸田町), was uploaded by "K Nishiyama." Kosanji Temple is located on Ikuchi Island, one of the islands in the Seto Inland Sea in Onomichi, Hiroshima. The temple was built in homage to the Pure Land Buddhism temples of the Nara and Heian periods, and it has a vivid and majestic appearance. The "Hill of Hope," a pure white garden created with marble sculptures, is located in the precincts of the temple. Because of its overwhelming beauty, it has become a new attraction for tourism in Onomichi as an #instaworthy spot. Check out Kosanji Museum, where you can experience Japanese culture, and the Hill of Hope, a new tourist attraction in Onomichi, in the video! The History of Kosanji Temple & Facts About Kosanji Museum Photo:Kosanji Temple, Onomichi, Hiroshima Kosanji Temple, located in Onomichi, Hiroshima, was originally built by Kozo Kanemoto, a businessman from Fukuoka Prefecture, to mourn the loss of his mother. The temple belongs to the Honganji School of Shinshu Jodo Buddhism and is also known as "Haha no Tera" (母の寺, lit. "Mother's Temple"). The temple is called the "Nikko of the West" (a reference to the beautiful Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Tochigi prefecture) for its beautiful color and design, and pagodas modeled after ancient buildings. In 2003, 15 of its buildings were designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. Kosanji Museum exhibits many Important Cultural Properties and nationally designated Important Works of Art. This collection was originally assembled to furnish Chouseikaku Villa, which was built as both a villa and as the resting place for Kozo Kosanji's mother, and later for the temple and the opening of the museum. Immediately after the end of WWII, the museum began displaying and exhibiting the collected works of art, and in 1953, it was reestablished as a nationally registered museum, which it remains to this day. The majority of the collection consists of Buddhist art, tea ceremony art, and modern art, including a famous statue Amida Nyorai (Amitabha) with a crown of gold, which was by constructed by Kaikei, a Buddhist priest of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). What is the Hill of Hope? Photo:The white marble garden at the Hill of Hope in Onomichi, Hiroshima The Hill of Hope, located on the grounds of Kosanji, is a 5,000 square meter white marble garden. Its pure white beauty is reminiscent of the Greek island of Santorini. The marble used in the garden was mined from Carrara, Italy, where the world-renowned sculptor, Itto Kuetani, has his studio. Monuments of various shapes and sizes are placed on the hill, and paths and plazas have been created. Mr. Kuetani created these monuments harmony with the surrounding scenery and nature. He hopes that visitors will enjoy the marble garden as a part of nature, and that they will let their imaginations run wild. Kosanji Temple's Hill of Hope, a unique tourist attraction in Onomichi, is now one of the most popular Instagram spots on the Shimanami Kaido. Particularly popular is "Koumei no To" (Tower of Light), which is placed at the highest point of the Hill of Hope, as if to join hands with the setting sun. In front of the white tower, visitors can take pictures against the sky above the Seto Inland Sea, making it a popular spot for couples and tourists in general. Another instaworthy feature is "Kaze no Shiki" (風の四季, Winds of the Four Seasons); four marble screens representing the winds of the four seasons. They're great for taking pictures. Kosanji Museum and the Hill of Hope: Admission Fees, Average Time Spent Here, Etc. Photo:Nakamon Gate at Kosanji Museum in Onomichi, Hiroshima By entering Kosanji Museum, visitors can also visit the Hill of Hope. Admission is 1,400 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for university and high school students, and free for elementary and junior high school students. A 200 yen discount is available for groups of 20 or more people. Kosanji Temple also offers a "filial piety discount," which provides a 200 yen discount for parents who enter the museum with their children. The average time spent at Kosanji Museum is 1-2 hours. Please take your time and enjoy viewing the temple complex, which is a collection of the beauty of Japanese culture, as well as the works of art throughout the museum. The Hill of Hope is a vast site to explore as well. The estimated time required for this tour is 2 hours, but you may lose track of time as you take pictures and enjoy the spectacular views of the monuments and nature. If you wish to enjoy both the Kosanji Temple Museum and the Hill of Hope, you should expect to spend approximately 5 hours here. Cycling in Onomichi and the Shimanami Kaido Photo:A woman cycling on the Shimanami Kaido While Kosanji Temple, Kosanji Museum, and the Hill of Hope can all be accessed via public transportation or personal vehicles, one of the things Onomichi is known for is the Shimanami Kaido, a popular cycling route that takes cyclists from Onomichi in Hiroshima to Imabari in Ehime, across the Seto Inland Sea. The Shimanami Kaido is dotted with popular tourist attractions and things to do along the way, has great scenery, and is a great way to explore the area. The cycling course will take advanced cyclists 3-5 hours to complete, and beginners should expect the course to take 8-10 hours to complete while stopping at tourist attractions and taking in the scenery along the way. There are bicycle rental terminals with which visitors can rent a bicycle in Onomichi and drop off the bike in Imabari (or vise-versa) after they finish the course, so there's no need to worry about hauling the bike back to where you rented it, or having to bring your own bike. If you're interested in getting some exercise and enjoying the breeze, this is a great course to consider when visiting the Onomichi area. How to Get To Kosanji Museum and the Hill of Hope: Access by Train and Car Photo:Ikuchi Island and Tatara Bridge (Shimanami Kaido) There are many ways to get to Kosanji Museum and the Hill of Hope, including by boat, train, bus, and car. Since the museum is located on Ikuchi Island on the Shimanami Kaido, many people stop by while visiting other tourist attractions in the area. Okakura Kakuzo's former residence with its magnificent garden and Rokkakudo, which can be seen from 0:40 in the video, still stand on the beach and are well known as tourist attractions on the Izura Coast. Rokkakudo was designed by Okakura Kakuzo himself as a place of thought. It was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, and what can be seen today was rebuilt in 2012. Beautiful Views of Cape Otsu Photo:Cape Otsu on the Izura Coast, Chiba Prefecture The spectacular Cape Otsu can be seen from 3:24 in the video. Both of these mean "Welcome!" and are the typical greeting you'll hear at restaurants and stores across Japan. After being seated at a table, the staff will likely bring oshibori (おしぼり) to your table. Oshibori are wet towels that are used to wipe one's hands before eating. You may see people wiping their faces or tables with oshibori, but keep in mind that this can be considered rude in some cases, so it might be best to avoid doing it. After you've been seated and your oshibori has been brought to the table, the next thing to do is order your first dish. At izakaya in Japan, it's common for everyone to order a simple beer, as they're all the same and can be served relatively quickly. The stock phrase for this is "Toriaezu nama" (とりあえず生) which means "For now, I'll take a draft beer." Having said that, if you don't like beer, you can just order something else. [Video] 1:20 - Ordering Your First Drink at an Izakaya in Japan 【動画どうが】1:20~ 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやで初はじめての飲のみ物ものの注文ちゅうもん After you've ordered you're first drink or dish, you'll be served an otoshi (お通し). Otoshi are small appetizers served at izakaya and often include a variety of vegetables and sometimes meat, or they can be as simple as edamame. These cost several hundred yen as they are served in place of a cover charge, and cannot be refused. Unfortunately, you can't choose what your otoshi is, so if you're a picky eater or have allergies, you may not be able to eat them at all. Ordering at an Izakaya in Japan Photo:A woman calling a server(写真しゃしん:店員てんいんを呼よぶ女性じょせい) After you've received your beer and otoshi, and you're ready to order, you'll need to call the server over to your table. In Japan the server generally won't come to your table to check how the meal is or to ask if you want to order something. Instead, you'll call them over to the table when you want to order something. This can be done by calling out "sumimasen!" You don't have to know what they're saying, just give a simple "Okay," and you should have no problems ordering. Another tip to keep in mind when ordering, is to point at the pictures on the menu. This will make it much easier to order. If there aren't any pictures, the Google Translate app's real time translation feature is super useful, so definitely give it a try! [Video] 3:40 - Asking the Staff for a Recommendation 【動画どうが】3:40~ 店員てんいんさんにおすすめを聞きく様子ようす Izakaya Food – Menu Items, Courses, and Prices at Izakaya in Japan 日本にほんの居酒屋いざかやでの注文ちゅうもん方法ほうほう Photo:An izakaya party menu(写真しゃしん:居酒屋いざかやの宴会メニューえんかいめにゅー) Japan's izakaya often serve a wide variety of dishes. You can often find small dishes using a variety of vegetables, sashimi platters, and things like karaage (Japanese fried chicken), yakitori (chicken skewers), takoyaki (fried balls of batter with octopus), and gyoza (pot stickers), as well as larger dishes like seafood bowls and even ramen. Besides the individual dishes and drinks, most izakaya in Japan offer a "tabehoudai" (食べ放題, all you can eat) or "nomihoudai" (飲み放題, all you can drink) course as well. Both courses are structured roughly the same. They usually last 90-120 minutes and allow you to choose most things on the menu. If you order something that isn't included in the course, it will be added onto your bill. The server will generally explain what you can and cannot order with the courses. The prices for these courses vary by izakaya, but both tabehoudai and nomihoudai generally cost somewhere around ¥2,000-¥3,000+. Some izakaya even offer a "tabe-nomihoudai" (食べ飲み放題) course which combines them into an "all-you-can-eat-and-drink" course. You can expect this to cost around ¥4,000-¥5,000+. Something to keep in mind when ordering these courses is that, in general, if one person orders it, everyone has to order it. This is to prevent one person from getting the course and sharing their food or drinks with everybody else. There are some places that don't require everyone to order the course, but these restaurants are not common. Paying the Bill at an Izakaya in Japan Photo:Staff taking payment at a table(写真しゃしん:席せきで会計かいけいをする居酒屋店員いざかやてんいん) When paying your bill at an izakaya in Japan, just like when ordering, it's commonplace to call the staff over with "sumimasen!" The easiest phrase for telling the server you want to pay your bill is "okaikei onegaishimasu" (お会計お願いします, Check, please). If you say this, they'll have the bill at your table in no time. You'll either pay the bill at your table and the staff will bring you your change, or you bring the bill to the register to pay. Every izakaya is different. Another important thing to note when paying at izakaya is that most places will not allow you to split the bill. This is because it's not clear who ate what sometimes, and if there's a large group of people it can take a lot of time to pay. To avoid these problems, most izakaya require that groups pay together. Tokyo? Kyoto? Where to Find Izakaya in Japan Photo:Ponto-cho, Kyoto(写真しゃしん:京都きょうと・先斗町ぽんとちょう) Now that you're interested in izakaya, you're probably wondering where they actually are. From the big cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka to the smallest towns in Japan, izakaya can be found everywhere! If you look up "Izakaya" on google maps, you can find lots of izakaya wherever you are. Some of the most popular izakaya in Japan are oden, hot pot, and yakitori. Oden izakaya serve mainly oden, a type of a type of hot pot dish that often uses ingredients like chikuwa, konjac, daikon, eggs, etc. Hot pot izakaya serve mostly boiled dishes that you cook at your own pace while eating. Yakitori izakaya focus on grilled chicken skewers that the chef usually cooks over a charcoal grill over the counter. Thus, there are many izakaya that focus on a specific dish. Summary of Izakaya in Japan This was our introduction to Japan's izakaya culture. Be sure to reference it when you visit an izakaya in Japan. Besides standard izakaya, there are many different types that specialize in a specific menu item. Trying different izakaya and ordering all sorts of different foods and drinks is one of the best things about them. Izakaya can be found all across Japan and are best enjoyed with friends, but you can also enjoy them alone as well! Just remember that bills will most likely be paid together, so keep this in mind so no troubles arise. h2 ruby { font-weight: bold; } .mod-article-caption .caption-heading { font-size: 2.4rem !important; } .caption-text { font-size: 2rem !important; } -

Be sure to check out the video to see the Hamanoura Terraced Rice Fields. The Rice Fields of Japan Rice fields, called "tanbo" (田んぼ) in Japanese, are a common sight in Japan, due to rice being the staple food. There are also many different rice fields that are known for their beautiful scenery. Whether it be the Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Fields in Chiba, or the famous rice fields of Aomori and Saitama known for their rice field art, each one has its own unique beauty. Facing the Genkai Sea, the rice fields rise like stairsteps from the shore. The view of the sunset dying the rice fields orange as the surrounding greenery fades into darkness is truly spectacular. The best time to view the sunset and the rice fields is from spring to early summer (April to May). At this time of year, the rice fields are flooded with water for planting. As the setting sun approaches the horizon, the surface of the terraced rice fields and the Genkai Sea reflect its orange glow like a mirror. Where to Take Photos at the Hamanoura Terraced Rice Fields Photo:The Hamanoura Terraced Rice observation deck So then, where's the best place to take photos of the Hamanoura Terraced Rice Fields as they turn orange at sunset? In the video, you can see the beautiful 4K footage showing what resembles an underground temple. When lit up, the quarry ruins become an artistic space. Take a moment to check out the video that condenses some of the best parts of the Oya History Museum into just 6 minutes of footage. Learn About the History of Oya Stone Mining at the Oya History Museum! Photo:The Oya History Museum, Utsunomiya, Tochigi Oya stone, mined mainly in Oya, Utsunomiya, in Tochigi Prefecture, became known throughout Japan when it was used as a building material for the former Imperial Hotel. At the Oya History Museum, visitors can learn about the history of Oya stone in the exhibition room on the ground level and at the Oya Stone Mining Site. Oya stone is made of hardened volcanic ash and pumice rock fragments. It is softer and easier to process than other stones, and was mainly used as a building material because of its excellent fire resistance. Mining began in the mid-Edo period (around 1700-1800 AD). At first, mining was conducted during the off-season, but by the Meiji era (1868-1912), had become a full-fledged industry. Later, mining was done by hand until the 1950s, when it was successfully mechanized. The Oya History Museum is a valuable place where visitors can actually see and learn about the history of Oya stone mining, including the changes in the mining process throughout the years. The Oya History Museum, a Filming Location for Japanese Movies and TV Dramas Photo:Illuminated Oya stone at the Oya History Museum, Utsunomiya, Tochigi The Oya stone Mining Site has been the filming location for many Japanese dramas, movies, and music videos. Popular films include Rurouni Kenshin, Assassination Classroom, and the Kamen Rider series, and dramas such as "The Brave Yoshihiko And The Seven Driven People." It has also been used for shooting music videos for musicians, such as the Japanese rock duo B'z. Here are some of the various highlights of the Oya History Museum: ●It's a Space Reminiscent of an Underground Temple Descending the stairs from the entrance to the basement, visitors will find a 20,000-square-meter space which looks like an underground temple from a science fiction movie. ●Recreation of the Hand-Digging Era With Dolls The museum uses realistic dolls to recreate the hand-digging mining that was conducted from the Edo period (1603-1868 AD) until the introduction of machines in 1955. ●Holes With Light Coming in From the Ground During the mining process, holes were drilled to check the digging position from the ground. The light shining through these holes is as artistic as calculated lighting. ●Mining Ruins Resembling Murals The patterns of the mining ruins on the walls are like contemporary artwork. The walls are also used for concerts and other events. The space surrounded by Oya stone is said to have excellent acoustics. ●Fantastical Lighting Artworks and art objects using lighting are exhibited in the mining site, and art exhibitions are held on occasion as well. In addition, the site offers a variety of other ways for visitors to enjoy their visit, such as exploration events in collaboration with the "Made in Abyss" anime series. When visiting, visitors should be sure to wear warmer clothing. The temperature at the mining site can be as low as 10-11°C even in the summer, so be sure to prepare a jacket. Reservations, Admission Fees, and Time Required to Visit the Oya History Museum Photo:Oya History Museum, Utsunomiya, Tochigi You might be wondering, "Do visitors need a reservation to enter the Oya History Museum?" For those who have difficulty walking, a golf cart service is available to guide visitors, but please contact the Oya History Museum directly for details due to restrictions, such as limited weekday hours and the need for advance reservations. Mikane Shrine, Kyoto: Video Introduction This video, titled "Mikane Shrine, Kyoto|Kyoto Japan 4K Video FDR-AX100" (京都・御金神社 Kyoto Japan 4K 動画 FDR-AX100), was uploaded by "Kyoto 4K Videos|KYOTO VIDEOS" (京都4K動画KYOTO VIDEOS). If you venture away from the office district of Karasuma-Oike Street (烏丸御池通り, Karasuma-Oike-dori) in Nakagyo, Kyoto, you'll come across a golden torii gate. This is Mikane Shrine, a hidden gem and famous power spot for receiving blessings of wealth in Kyoto. The shrine is illuminated at night, creating a fantastic atmosphere that stands out from the rest of the city. The ginko-shaped ema plaques on the shrine grounds are filled with prayers asking for a winning lottery ticket. Check out the fantastic atmosphere of Mikane Shrine illuminated in the darkness in the video below. More About Mikane Shrine Photo:Mikane Shrine, Kyoto Mikane Shrine is written "御金神社" in Japanese. Mikane Shrine worships three deities: Kanayamahiko no Mikoto (a god of gold mines), Amaterasu, and Tsukiyomi no Mikoto. Originally a private shrine belonging to a residence, Mikane Shrine attracted many worshippers, and with the support of the neighborhood, the present shrine building was erected. The shrine was located near a street with many metal working craftsmen, and just like in Tokyo, ginza and kinza (gold and silver mint) were established by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Because of this, the shrine is believed to protect currency, such as gold, silver, and copper, as well as metals, jewelry, and minerals, and is said to bring various benefits related to money, such as economic fortune and success in business. The sacred ginkgo tree represents "prosperity and development" because it does not wither in any environment, and the leaves of the ginkgo tree represent "endless growth" because of their shape that spreads out in all directions. Furthermore, although it takes time for one gingko to bear fruit, once it does, it bears many fruits, so it is believed that this is true for the wishes the shrine grants as well. In addition, the leaves of the sacred gingko tree are distributed by the shrine to worshipers because of their golden color. Since the sacred tree is loved by many worshippers and is thought to bring them good luck, the shrine's ema plaques and amulets are also shaped like ginkgo leaves. Many visitors wash their money in the hand-washing basins at Mikane Shrine, but this is not a formal way of worship, rather a unique practice by visitors to the shrine. Therefore, it's important to keep in mind that the temizuya (chozuya) are originally for washing hands and mouths when visiting a shrine. Lucky Wallets and Golden-Leafed Seals at Mikane Shrine Photo:Mikane Shrine's ema plaques At Mikane Shrine, many people come to pray for economic prosperity, and there are a large number of money-related items available as souvenirs. Among them, the fuku-tsutsumi mamori (福包み守り, lit. "Lucky wrap charm"), commonly known as a "lucky wallet" is one of the most popular. It's made of yellow cloth, a good color for economic fortune, and each one is hand-stamped with gold leaf. Because they're made of cloth, they're less suited for everyday use, and better for storing important items such as bankbooks and lottery tickets. Since they are handmade in limited numbers, it's said to be good luck if you manage to get your hands on one. In addition to lucky wallets, shuin stamps are also popular at Mikane Shrine. The standard shuin stamps are also unique, featuring the kanji 金 (kin, "gold") in gold. However, the limited-quantity gold leaf shuin stamp features a ginkgo tree stamped in gold leaf, and those who are lucky enough to receive are said to be exceptionally lucky. The shuin stamps come as they are, and cannot be written in a special collection book. Praying for That New Year's Lottery Win? Check Out Mikane Shrine Photo:Japan's Jumbo Lottery Because Mikane Shrine is popular among locals as well as tourists, long lines form during the year-end and New Year's holidays. Especially during the New Year's holiday, it's likely to be at least an hour-long wait. We recommend visiting the shrine early in the morning or at night when there are fewer people. Mikane Shrine is illuminated and open all day long, but there are many private homes in the vicinity of the shrine. Please be sure to visit the shrine in a way that does not disturb the residents of the neighborhood. To get to Mikane Shrine, it's an approximately 5-minute walk from Karasuma-Oike Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Line. As with other shrines, it's common practice to bow before the torii gate, wash your hands, and rinse out your mouth at the chozuya. The bell at Mikane Shrine is set up in such a way that it does not disturb the nearby residents. Even if the bell doesn't ring, do not forcefully try to make it do so. After the standard two bows and two claps to greet the deities of the shrine, make your wish and give a final bow. This way you can respect both the gods of the shrine and the nearby residents. Summary of Mikane Shrine, Kyoto Mikane Shrine has become famous as a spiritual power spot as well as a place to pray for wealth and fortune. The shrine, which has long been loved by locals and was built with their help, has now become a tourist attraction loved by both tourists and people from all over Japan. It's said that just by using the golden torii gate of Mikane Shrine as your lock screen image, it can bring economic fortune, and many people can be seen taking pictures in front of the golden torii gate. The golden torii gate is also popular on Instagram due to its flashy, photogenic appearance. If you visit Kyoto as a tourist, consider stopping by Mikane Shrine to pray for wealth! A quiet visit to the shrine may bring you good luck. Just remember to be considerate of the local residents.
