Autumn Foliage at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and KamadoShrine: Video introduction Photo:Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Fukuoka Prefecture This video, titled "Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Mt. Hozan|Hiking and Autumn Leaves at Kamado Shrine SONY a6500" (太宰府天満宮 Dazaifu tenmangu宝満山 登山 紅葉の竈門神社(かまど) SONY a6500), was uploaded by "Ishii Valley" (石井渓谷). The 4.5-minute video shows the beautiful autumn foliage found at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kamado Shrine. The video provides a realistic feeling as if you were actually visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kamado Shrine. Be sure to check out the beautiful autumn leaves in the video, especially around the 2-minute mark! How to Get To Homanzan Kamado Shrine From Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine Photo:Kamado Shrine, Fukuoka Prefecture Dazaifu, located in Fukuoka Prefecture, in Japan's Kyushu region, is widely known for Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. However, if you visit in the fall, there's another spot that we highly recommend you visit in conjunction with Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. That is, Kamado Shrine. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kamado Shrine are located very close to one another, so it's possible to visit both places in the same day. If you're going from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, a 5-minute walk from Dazaifu Station, to Kamado Shrine, it will take you about 30 minutes on foot. If you use public transportation, the Mahoroba bus (まほろば号) is a convenient way to get to the shrine. Take the bus bound for Uchiyama (内山) from the bus stop Miyamae (宮前) (in front of the Sanjo 7-Eleven), and you will arrive at the last stop, Uchiyama (in front of the shrine), in about 7 minutes. Since there are not many buses, you may want to check the bus schedule in advance before visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. On the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, you'll find a variety of snacks, such as umegae mochi, a specialty of Fukuoka, as well as Japanese sweets made from strawberries, and Mont Blanc. There is also a wide variety of restaurants in the area, and other stalls selling things like steamed buns. If you have time to spare, consider taking a break for lunch or a quick snack. Kamado Shrine and the Anime Demon Slayer + Popular Charms Photo:Mt. Homan, Fukuoka Prefecture Homanzan Kamado Shrine has seen an increase in the number of visitors to the shrine, due to the enormous popularity of Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba). However, not many people know much about Kamado Shrine itself. Kamado Shrine is located at the foot of Mt. Homan, known as a sacred mountain of Dazaifu. Mt. Homan is the located in the northeast, an unlucky direction, and rituals were held here to protect Dazaifu and the nation, leading to the construction of the Shinto shrine on the site. The main deity is Tamayori-hime no Mikoto. This deity is known as a god of marriage because of her divine power to attract souls ("tama," in Japanese). In addition, the shrine is also blessed with the power to ward off bad luck and evil spirits. It's said that the shrine's popularity was sparked by the fact that the surname of Tanjiro Kamado, the main character of Demon Slayer, is the same as that of the Kamado Shrine. The shrine is said to have been named after Mt. Homan, the mountain on which it stands, because of its shape, which resembles a kamado (a type of traditional Japanese stove). As mentioned above, the fact that the shrine was built to ward off demons is also a point of interest to fans of Demon Slayer. One of the most popular spots at the shrine is the amulet office. The building was designed based on the concept of "a building that will continue to be loved even 100 years from now," with pink and white as its base color, creating a modern atmosphere. When the shrine office was rebuilt, world-renowned interior designer Masamichi Katayama participated in the project, and the benches and chairs on the observation terrace were designed by Jasper Morrison. Be sure to take a look at the stylish shrine office, as it's not something you'd expect to find at a Shinto shrine. One of the most popular spots at the shrine is the amulet office. As for good luck charms, or "omamori" (お守り) in Japanese, the most popular is the ichigo omamori (いちごお守り, strawberry charm). In the old days, the four-character idiom "Ichi-go ichi-e" (一期一会), a Japanese phrase used to describe once-in-a-lifetime encounters, was used to describe a marriage or an important match, and this amulet is a prayer for such precious encounters to come true. There are many other cute charms and amulets sold at the shrine besides the strawberry charm, so consider purchasing one to commemorate your visit to the shrine. Hiking Mt. Homan, a Popular Sacred Mountain in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Photo:A hiking trail on Mt. Homan, Fukuoka Prefecture Mt. Homan, located in Dazaifu City, is a sacred mountain that has been praised since ancient times as a mountain where the gods dwell. It's a very popular mountain among hikers, many of whom visit the mountain to climb it. There are several trails for hiking Mt. Homan, but the most popular is the standard trail starting from Kamado Shrine. After passing through the Ichino-torii (first shrine gate), you'll find a full-fledged trail with stone steps. The ascent will take about 2 hours, and the descent will be a little quicker, at around 1.5 hours. Although the trails on Mt. Homan are well maintained, there are some steep points, such as "Hyakudan Ganki" (100段ガンキ), a series of 100 steep steps. Please make sure you are fully prepared for the challenge when hiking up the mountain. A breathtaking panoramic view awaits you after you reach the summit. Enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring, autumn leaves in fall, and seasonal flowers along the trail as you climb the mountain. You can also pay a visit to the Jogu (the highest point of the shrine) of Kamado Shrine, which is located at the top. The Autumn Festival at Kamado Shrine and the Best Time to See the Autumn Leaves Photo:Autumn leaves at Kamado Shrine, Fukuoka Prefecture In autumn, Kamado Shrine is enveloped in a vibrant palette of colorful. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Kamado Shrine is usually from early November to early December, with the Autumn Leaves Festival being held at the end of November. The Autumn Leaves Festival usually attracts many visitors, with stalls selling freshly picked vegetables and refreshments, flea markets selling a variety of goods, and even stalls seasonal spirits. The best time to see the autumn leaves at the shrine is at night. The contrast between the blue skies, green trees, and the bright red autumn leaves is different from the atmosphere of the shrine at night, when the autumn leaves are illuminated. Be sure to enjoy the night view from the observatory. Things to Do Near Kamado Shrine Photo:Kyushu National Museum. In autumn, when the approximately 300 maple trees change color, you can see a different view of the shrine than in other seasons. Kamado Shrine is enshrined at the foot of Mt. Aerial Footage of Autumn Leaves, a Sea of Clouds, and Snow on Mt. Oe: Video Introduction This video, titled "Autumn Leaves, a Sea of Clouds, and Snow Landscapes on Mt. Oe via Aerial Drone Footage 4K" (紅葉と雲海、雪の大江山空撮 Drone aerial 4K shooting of autumn leaves, sea of clouds, and Mt. Oe with snow makeup), was uploaded by "Office WADA." It features aerial drone photography of the Oe Mountains in Miyazu, Kyoto! You can see the seasonal changes of the mountains from Miyazu Bay to Amanohashidate and Nariaiji Temple in 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Enjoy the spectacular autumn leaves and sea of clouds, and the snowy mountains in winter, some of the most spectacular views of the Oe Mountains. The Fascinating Mt. Oe – Legends of Demons and a Sea of Clouds. The Model for Demon Slayer? Photo:A sea of clouds at Mt. Oe, Kyoto, Japan The Oe Mountains are mountain range consisting of four mountains, Nabezuka, Hatogatake, Senjogatake, and Akaishigatake, located in Fukuchiyama, Yosano, and Miyazu, Kyoto, in Japan's Kansai region. They sit at an elevation of 832.5 meters. The Oe Mountains are said to have been inhabited by a demon called "Shuten Doji" in the mid-Heian period, and there are legends of demon exterminations. These exterminations of demons appear in the Noh play "The Oe Mountains" (大江山, Oeyama) and in the ancient Japanese text Jikkunsho, in the "Song of the Oe Mountains." "The Song of the Oe Mountains" is a story about the young Koshikibu no Naishi, a master waka poet who appears in the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu and daughter of Izumi Shikibu, composing a poem so skillfully that Fujiwara no Sadayori, another master waka poet, makes fun of her, asking, "Did your mother write this poem for you?" The song tells of Koshikibu no Naishi beating Fujiwara no Sadayori in a battle of words. The Oe Mountains have attracted a lot of attention due to the popularity of the hit anime Demon Slayer. In the fall, the mountain is known for its sea of clouds, where fog rolls in between the mountains. Onitake Inari Shrine, located at the 8th station of the Oe Mountains and accessible by car, is also a spot with a superb view of the sea of clouds, and is popular as a picturesque spot for photographers and instagrammers. Sightseeing & Spectacular Views on Mt. Oe! When to See the Autumn Leaves and Sea of Clouds Photo:The sea of clouds at Mt. Oe from Onitake Inari Shrine One of the most fantastic and spectacular views of Mt. Oe is the sea of clouds, and in fact, the time of year when this sea of clouds can be seen coincides with the time of year when the leaves turn red. The autumn leaves can be seen from late October to late November on Mt. Oe. The sea of clouds can be seen from mid-October to early December. If the conditions are right, during the autumn foliage season, you may be able to see both the autumn foliage and a sea of clouds. A sea of clouds forms between mountains in the early morning when there is a large temperature difference from that of the previous day. It's a special sight because it can only be seen at certain times of day, but it is difficult to climb mountains early in the morning. Many people wish to view the sea of clouds from a place that is easily accessible by car, and as a matter of fact, there is such a place on Mt. Oe. That location is Onitake Inari Shrine, which is located at the 8th station of the Oe Mountains. Located at an elevation of 640 meters, this is a great place to view the surrounding mountains and sea of clouds. The area surrounding Onitake Inari Shrine is a rare primeval beech forest, where visitors can enjoy a vast sea of clouds and autumn leaves at the same time. It's the perfect spots for taking photos! Another Way to Enjoy Mt. Oe – Hiking Another way to enjoy sightseeing in the Oe Mountains is mountain climbing and hiking. The Oe Mountains consists of four mountains: Nabezuka, Hatogatake, Senjogatake, and Akaishigatake, and can be enjoyed by both casual hikers and advanced climbers alike. The Nabezuka course alone or the two-mountain course from Hatogatake to Senjogatake can be completed in a half-day hiking tour. Alternatively, you can challenge three or more mountains for a full-scale mountaineering expedition. We also recommend staying at a hotel in Fukuchiyama and enjoying your time over several days to carefully enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains while climbing. If you're not confident in your mountain climbing/hiking skills you can always ask for a guide. We recommend them because they can help you discover things that amateur climbers tend to overlook and also ensure your safety. Sightseeing at the Japanese Oni Exchange Museum – The Home of Shuten Doji Photo:The Japanese Oni Exchange Museum Here we'll introduce you to the legends of demons (oni) in the Oe Mountains, which have been passed down for generations. In the mid-Heian period (794-1185 A.D.), a terrifying oni named Shuten-doji lived in the Oe Mountains. Originally an exceptionally attractive human, he became a rampaging demon who ate people because of a grudge. This oni was also a great drunkard who could not be defeated by human powers alone. Minamoto no Yorimitsu was ordered to defeat this demon by making it drink sacred sake that was poisonous to demons. It's said that the demon Shuten Doji, who was "a demon consumed by alcohol," cursed Yorimitsu bitterly, calling him a coward, before he was beheaded. Besides the legend of Shuten-doji, there are two more legends of demons that have survived on Mt. Oe. Onitake Inari Shrine, located at the 8th station, is called the "home of demons." For those who wish to learn more, we recommend visiting the Japanese Oni Exchange Museum. The museum exhibits everything from the demons of Setsubun to legends of demons. It's a great way to enjoy the local culture of the Oe Mountains. Summary of Autumn Leaves and the Sea of Clouds at Mt. Oe If you're traveling to Mt. Oe to enjoy the autumn leaves and sea of clouds, we recommend visiting Onitake Inari Shrine in the early morning during November if you have the chance. On the way to Onitake Inari Shrine at the 8th station of the Oe Mountains from Prefectural Road No. 9 is the Village of Shuten-doji. This facility is also equipped with everything from tennis courts to barbecue houses, campgrounds, and lodges. If you're planning to stay near Mt. Oe to view the sea of clouds and autumn leaves, consider using the accommodations at the Village of Shuten-doji, which offers good access to Onitake Inari Shrine. 【TripAdvisor】Mt. [2023] Autumn Leaves on Mt. Takao – Information on Congestion and Recommended Courses for the Popular Mountain in Tokyo
Travel Nature Local PR- 1.14K views
Mt. Takao – A Mountain Surrounded by Nature, Just an Hour From the Heart of Tokyo Photo:Mt. Takao, Hachioji, Tokyo Mt. Takao is a 599-meter-tall mountain located in Hachioji, Tokyo. It was designated as Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park and in 2020 became the first mountain in Tokyo to be recognized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as a "Japan Heritage Site" as "Mt. Takao – A Mountain Full of Spirituality ~The Tale of the Mulberry Capital, Spun From People's Prayers~." Takao Yakuoin Temple, one of the three main temples of the Chizan sect of Shingon Buddhism, is located halfway up Mt. Takao, and various events are held at the temple throughout the year, including a Setsubun Festival, Spring Festival, Autumn Festival, festivals with bonfires, and more. Photo:Yakuoin Temple, Mt. Takao Near Mt. Takao Cable Car Station, there is a monkey garden, a wildflower garden, and the Mt. Takao Beer Garden, where visitors can enjoy a refreshing beer in the summer. As it's located just one hour from central Tokyo, visitors can easily enjoy mountain climbing and hiking in the area throughout the year. In 2007, Mt. Takao was awarded the highest ranking of three stars in the Michelin Guide, along with Mt. Fuji, making it well known worldwide, and it is currently the most climbed mountain in the world, attracting approximately 3 million climbers annually. [Updated Information for 2023] The Best Time to View the Autumn Leaves on Mt. Takao Photo:Autumn leaves on Mt. Takao, Hachioji, Tokyo Surrounded by abundant nature, the autumn leaves of Mt. Takao begin to change color from around the end of October, and are usually at their best from mid-November to early December. This is slightly later than in central Tokyo. The autumn colors of the maple and beech trees turn Mt. Takao brilliant shades of red and yellow, but the best time to see the leaves is usually near the foot of the mountain in mid-November, and near the summit in late November. Source :Hachioji's local information portal site, Hachinavi During the peak foliage viewing season, the cable cars and lifts are often crowded, and you may have to wait an hour or more for a ride. The trail leading to the summit is also congested with climbers, and it's sometimes difficult to advance. The 2023 "Mt. Takao Maple Festival" will be held from October 28 to December 3. At the event plaza, performances by students from Hachioji City and other events will be held. Also, on weekdays during the festival, visitors can get a raffle ticket when they spend 1,000 yen or more at member stores of the Takao-san Shopping Association. 599 people will win prizes. [Updated Information for 2023] Recommended Courses and Tips for Viewing the Autumn Leaves on Mt. Takao Source :Hachioji's local information portal site, Hachinavi There are several trails on Mt. Takao that lead to the summit. The main trails and routes on Mt. Takao are as follows: ・Trail 1 (Omotesando Trail): Total length: 3.8 km ・Trail 2 (Kasumidai Loop Trail): Total length: 900 m ・Trail 3 (Katsura Forest Trail): Total length: 2.4 km ・Trail 4 (Suspension Bridge Trail): Total length: 1.5 km ・Trail 5 (Summit Loop Trail): Total length: 900 m ・Trail 6 (Biwa Waterfall Trail): Total length: 3.3 km ・Inariyama Trail (Ridgeline Trail): Total length: 3.1 km Below, we'll introduce the features of each course and recommended points of interest for viewing the autumn leaves. Source :Hachioji's local information portal site, Hachinavi Trail 1 (Omotesando Trail) This is the most popular route for climbing Mt. It is also paved, making it a friendly route for beginners. Kasumidai Observatory, the Buddhist Stupa, Yakuoin Temple, and the summit of Mt. Takao are points of interest for viewing the autumn leaves. Trail 2 (Kasumidai Loop Trail) It takes about 30 minutes to go around the area near Mt. Takao Cable Car Station on the cable car. The wildflower garden is a point of interest for viewing the autumn leaves. Trail 3 (Katsura Forest Trail) This course is located on the south side of Trail 1 and has relatively fewer hikers than other trails, allowing visitors to take their time and enjoy the natural surroundings. It's not recommended for viewing the autumn leaves, as there are many evergreen trees. Photo:The suspension bridge on Mt. Takao, Hachioji Tokyo Trail 4 (Suspension Bridge Trail) Located on the north side of Trail 1, Trail 4 is popular for its suspension bridge (Miyama Bridge), the only suspension bridge on Mt. Takao. Many deciduous trees lose their leaves during the winter season, and the yellowing of dogtooth vines and beech trees can be enjoyed during autumn. Trail 5 (Summit Loop Trail) This course circles the area just below the summit of Mount Takao and takes about 30 minutes to complete. Almost all trails, including Trails 1, 3, 4, 6, and the Inariyama Trail, are connected to Trail 5. The course has few changes in elevation, allowing visitors to enjoy the autumn leaves at a leisurely pace. Trail 6 (Biwa Waterfall Trail) This trail is also called the "water trail" because of the waterfalls and rivers along its creeks. Biwa Falls has long been used for water ablutions by Shugendo practitioners. The trail is not very well maintained, and footing is poor in some places, so we do not recommend hiking with light equipment. Because this trail takes you through an overgrown forest, you will not be able to see the autumn leaves. Inariyama Trail (Ridgeline Trail) This course passes through the south side of Mt. Takao and includes some steep ascents, making it a genuine mountain climbing experience. It takes only 90 minutes to reach the summit, and you can enjoy viewing the various autumn colors from the foot of the mountain to the summit. Accessing Mt. Takao Photo:Takaosanguchi Station, Hachioji Tokyo [Access via Train] Keio Line: From Shinjuku Station to Takao-yamaguchi Station, approx. 50 min. JR Chuo Line: From Shinjuku Station to Takao Station: 44 min (special rapid), 58 min (rapid); from JR Takao Station, transfer to Keio Line to reach Takao-yamaguchi Station, approx. 3 min. There are several pay parking lots around the foot of Mt. Takao, but please note that they become very crowded during the high season for viewing the autumn leaves. [Updated Information for 2023] Points of Interest Near Mt. Takao After Viewing the Autumn Leaves Mt. Takao features a variety of popular tourist attractions in addition to hiking, so consider stopping by some of them on your way home after a day of mountain climbing. Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu, Nikko National Park: Video Introduction Photo:Autumn on Mt. Nasu (Mt. Chausu), Tochigi Prefecture This video, titled "[4K]【Nikko National Park】 Autumn leaves of Mt. Nasu Kanto No. 1 autumn leaves spot 2020," was uploaded by "Superb view of Japan." Mt. Nasu, which boasts some of the best autumn leaves in the Kanto region, is located in Nikko National Park in Tochigi Prefecture. What makes Mt. Nasu so great in autumn is that visitors can enjoy hiking while viewing the beautiful autumn leaves. The combination of the majestic Mt. Nasu and the blazing red autumn leaves, as shown in the video, will make you want to see it in person! Be sure to check out the incredibly scenery in the video in 4K! When to See Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu Photo:Mt. Nasu (Mt. Chausu), Tochigi Prefecture Mt. Nasu, the main peak of the Nasu Mountain Range, a volcanic group centering on the five peaks of Nasu, is also called Mt. Chausu, and has been selected as one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. Located in the northwestern part of Nasu, Tochigi, in Japan's Kanto region, Mt. Nasu is 1,915 meters (~6,283 ft.) above sea level. Together with Mt. Asahi to the north, it's a great place to enjoy the autumn colors of mountain maples and azaleas in the fall. Because Mt. Nasu is an active volcano even today, you can smell sulfur in the air around it. The best time to view the autumn leaves is usually from late September to early October, and since there is a ropeway, both beginners and advanced hikers can enjoy them. The area is crowded with hikers who come to see the autumn colors every year. Highlights & Where to See the Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu Photo:Autumn leaves at Ubagadaira, Mt. Nasu (Mt. Chausu), Tochigi Prefecture The highlight of the autumn leaves on Mt. Nasu is the collaboration between the active volcano, Mt Nasu, and the fiery red autumn leaves that can be seen all the way up to the top of the mountain. [Video] 1:33 - Beautiful Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu While the view from the top of the mountain is, of course, spectacular, the panoramic view of the town below and the colorful autumn leaves will take your breath away. There is also a well-maintained hiking trail at the top of the mountain, so you can make a round trip around the caldera. If you go when the leaves are changing colors, the spectacular view from Ubagadaira is something you don't want to miss. The volcanic gasses and autumn leaves atop the majestic Mt. Nasu are sure to leave a lasting impression! Don't forget to bring a camera, because this is an excellent spot for taking photos. [Video] 5:57 - Ubagadaira at the Foot of Mt. Nasu Hiking Trails and What to Wear When Hiking Mt. Nasu in Autumn Photo:The Mt. Nasu Ropeway, Tochigi Prefecture Mt. Nasu is a great mountain for both beginners and experienced hikers alike. There are several hiking trails on Mt. Nasu with varying levels of difficulty, but the course using a ropeway is recommended for beginners. For those interested in hiking Mt. Nasu but feel that they are not ready for the challenge of a full-scale hiking adventure, we recommend using the ropeway. It takes about 50 minutes to reach the top of Mt. Nasu from Nasu Ropeway Station. This is a hiking course where you can casually enjoy climbing the mountain while viewing the autumn leaves. For those looking to hike Mt. Nasu, here are some tips on what to wear and what temperatures to expect when hiking during autumn. From late September to late October, the best time to view the autumn leaves, the temperature is usually around 10°C (50°F). Mornings and evenings are cold and there can be strong winds when you reach the summit, so be sure to wear clothing that is easy to put on and take off, as well as layers of clothing to regulate your body temperature. For shoes, wear hiking boots or other suitable footwear for hiking, and don't forget rain gear as the weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Climbing Mt. Nasu for Beginners – Ropeway Fees, How to Get There, Etc. Photo:Mt. Nasu and the Mt. Nasu Ropeway, Tochigi Prefecture When accessing the trailhead by car, there are three parking lots. Nasu Ropeway parking lot: 175 cars Nasu Toge no Chaya Parking Lot 1 & 2: 167 spaces Daimaru Parking Lot: 160 spaces The round-trip ropeway fee is 1,800 yen for adults (junior high school students and older) and 900 yen for children (Ages 3 to elementary school students). The ropeway recommended for those who are just looking to see the autumn leaves, as they can be seen from the ropeway when they're in season. It takes about 4 minutes to reach the station at the top from Nasu Ropeway Sanroku Station. You'll reach the 9th station of Mt. Nasu in no time. Things To Do Near Mt. Nasu Photo:Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge, Nasu Kogen, Tochigi Prefecture Here are some places of interest that we recommend checking out when visiting Mt. Nasu. Nasu Onsen Mt. Nasu is located right next to Nasu Onsen, and in the nearby onsen town, visitors can enjoy a variety of different hot springs to relax after a day of sightseeing or hiking. The oldest hot spring at Nasu Onsen is Shika no Yu, meaning "Deer Hot Spring." This hot spring is 1,300 years old and is the origin of Nasu Onsen. Its name comes from a legend that the local villagers saw an injured deer limping around, but after falling into the hot spring it miraculously recovered. Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge is a beautiful bridge that stretches across a low valley. In the fall, the surrounding trees change to beautiful shades of yellow and orange and delight the eyes of visitors. The bridge itself is aesthetically pleasing as well, so be sure to take a photo with it when visiting. Besides the two places mentioned above, there are a number of other attractions in the area, including the famous "Killing Stone" located across the bridge. According to legends, the stone was said to hold the spirit of a nine-tailed fox demon that turned into such after being vanquished after attempting to assassinate Emperor Toba (1103-1156). In recent years, the stone suddenly split in half, and can still be seen by visitors. Also in the area are numerous waterfalls, museums, and many more exciting things to see and do. There are also some lovely azalea fields nearby that can be seen blooming in the spring. During autumn, they're known for their wonderful foliage. Summary of Autumn Leaves on Mt. Nasu Photo:Autumn leaves on Mt. Nasu (Mt. Chausu), Tochigi Prefecture The beautiful autumn leaves against the white smoke and black surface of the mountain make Mt. Nasu a sight that should be on anyone's bucket list. Mt. Nasu is expected to see heavy traffic during the autumn months. When visiting, it's recommended that you check not only the weather forecast, but also how far along the leaves are and how crowded the parking lots are with live cameras. After climbing the mountain, you can stop by an onsen (hot spring) to relax after a long day of hiking. Hot springs can be enjoyed by visitors on even one-day trips at Holiday Village Nasu. In addition to Mt. Nasu, Nikko National Park is home to a variety of scenic locations. If you're visiting Tochigi, be sure to take a moment to appreciate its natural beauty as well! [TripAdvisor] Mt. Autumn Leaves at Enkoji Temple, Kyoto: Video Introduction This video, titled "[4K] 2021 Autumn Leaves and Suikinkutsu at Enkoji Temple, Kyoto" (【4K】2021圓光寺の紅葉と水琴窟 Autumn leaves of Kyoto Enkoji Temple), was uploaded by "fuppomadoka1962." Highlights of Enkoji Temple in Northern Kyoto Photo:Autumn leaves at Enkoji Temple, Kyoto The reason for the overwhelmingly beautiful autumn leaves at Enkoji Temple is its location. Located in the northern part of Kyoto City, Enkoji Temple is characterized by colorful autumn leaves every year due to the extreme temperature differences between the four seasons. The highlight of Enkoji Temple's autumn foliage is the garden Jugyu no Niwa (十牛の庭, lit. "The Garden of Ten Oxen"), where visitors can view the leaves from various vantage points. [Video] 0:50 - The Beautiful Garden Jugyu no Niwa [Video] 1:30 - Jugyu no Niwa Seen From the Exhibit Hall Photo:The chozubachi at Enkoji Temple, Kyoto A suikinkutsu is a Japanese garden ornament that makes a lovely sound. The suikinkutsu in the garden of Enkoji Temple is made of a wide-rimmed chozubachi (手水鉢, water bowl), a shape not seen anywhere else, and has been cherished by hobbyists as the "Enkoji style" since ancient times. The vivid autumn leaves on the surface of the water sway in the wind, making it a popular scene for photographers and instagrammers. After snapping some photos of the beautiful autumn leaves, visitors can enjoy listening to the sound of the suikinkutsu. The sound of water dripping into the hollow of the pot, which is embedded in the ground, is similar to the sound of a koto (the Japanese harp), and it resonates in the hearts of those who hear it. [Video] 3:30 - The Faint Sound of the Suikinkutsu The history of Enkoji Temple dates back to 1601, when the famous warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu built Enkoji Temple in Fushimi and turned it into a school to promote education and learning in Japan. The temple also exhibits some of the oldest wooden typefaces in Japan (an Important Cultural Property), and has a history tracing back to the origins of printing in Japan. From the hilltop of the Toshogu Shrine on top of the mountain, visitors can enjoy the view of Arashiyama and Kitayama, and at dusk, the golden hour envelops the whole area, offering a spectacular view that changes with every passing moment. Enkoji Temple is also home to a bamboo forest path, which is said to have been frequented by Maruyama Okyo, a Japanese painter active in Kyoto during Japan's Edo period (1603-1868 AD). His painting "Bamboo in Wind and Rain" (an Important Cultural Property) is also on display at the temple. Reservations and When to View the Autumn Leaves at Enkoji Temple Photo:Autumn leaves at Enkoji Temple, Kyoto In recent years, special viewing of autumn leaves at Enkoji Temple has been reserved for a designated date and time to avoid congestion. For reservations and details regarding reservation start times, viewing periods, times, and viewing fees, please check the advance reservation page on the official website. The best time to view the autumn leaves is usually from mid-November to early December, although times may vary slightly due to climate change and temperature fluctuations over the past few years. The Jizo statues, which can be seen as soon as you enter Jugyu no Niwa, are also popular. During the autumn foliage season, the Jizo statues standing on a carpet of autumn leaves is great for taking photos and attracts many instagrammers. "Early morning viewing" is popular among people who want to avoid crowds during the peak season of autumn leaves, which can be visited before normal viewing hours on certain days when autumn leaves are at their best.In 2023, only the first 40 people applied. If you want to enjoy the autumn leaves in a quiet time from eight o'clock in the morning, please check the official website in advance next year. Autumn Foliage Spots Around Enkoji Temple in Northern Kyoto Photo:Autumn leaves at Shisendo, Kyoto The area around Enkoji Temple, in northern Kyoto, is home to many places for enjoying the autumn leaves, as well as popular tourist attractions. Many visitors to Enkoji Temple visit Shisendo, another Buddhist temple, where they are able to escape from their frantic daily lives and enjoy a moment of tranquility. At Sanzenin Temple, a representative temple of Ohara, visitors can enjoy a spectacular collaboration between the green mosses and crimson maple leaves. In addition, Manjuin Temple, the Kibune Foliage Lantern Festival (貴船もみじ灯篭, Kibune Momiji Toro), and Hosen'in Temple have gained popularity in recent years as spots where visitors can enjoy the illuminated autumn leaves. Summary of Autumn Leaves at Enkoji Temple, Kyoto The northern Kyoto area, where Enkoji Temple is located, is famous for its autumn leaves, which attract many tourists from both Japan and other countries during the autumn foliage season. Here are some of the best areas. ●The Rose Path From the Rose Arches This is an impressive pathway where visitors can pass under countless roses while enjoying a view of the entire rose garden. ●Word of the Roses of Versailles The terrace offers a panoramic view of the area where all six types of the famous "Rose of Versailles" are covered. ●Formal-Style Garden This is a formal, French-style garden. Screens, poles, arches, and pergolas are used to create a three-dimensional appearance for the 80 varieties of roses blooming in the rose garden. ●Rose Gazebo The Rose Gazebo is recognized as a sacred place for lovers! This is a gazebo made of marble donated by designer Yumi Katsura. It has an orange color, which is rare among roses. They gradually change from apricot to orange when they begin blooming, which is another of their unique aspects. ●Gaku no Yume This rose is popular for its vivid strawberry red and white coloring, with more than 10 buds per cluster. It has a mild fragrance and 25-35 petals. ●Pearl earrings The name "Pearl Earring" comes from its elegant and friendly appearance. The video is a brief three-minute intro to Hirakata Park in Osaka. It shows seasonal spots and attractions popular on social media as well, such as cherry blossoms, roses, and illuminations. Kyoto is the most popular destination in Japan for viewing the autumn leaves. The best time to enjoy the breathtaking autumn foliage in Kyoto is from mid-November to early December, which is also the most popular season of the year. This 4K video was shot at popular places for viewing autumn leaves in Kyoto during the peak of the season in 2020. The video introduces six of the most popular places to view the autumn leaves in Kyoto, including Eikando Temple, Tofukuji Temple, Rurikoin Temple, Kiyomizudera, Mt. Hiei, and Hogon-in Temple. The beautiful sight of maples and various other trees changing to shades of red, orange, and yellow is truly amazing. Be sure to check out the video to see some of the best places to view the autumn leaves in Kyoto, Japan. When to See the Autumn Leaves at Kyoto's Famous Temples Photo:Autumn in Kyoto, Japan Kyoto is known for having many tourist attractions where you can view the beautiful autumn leaves, and its many temples are some of the best places to do just that. However, since the best time to view the leaves differs from area to area, it's a good idea to check in advance before visiting a temple. In this issue, we will introduce the highlights of the six autumn foliage spots featured in the video, as well as the best time to view the autumn leaves. Breathtaking Autumn Foliage at Kiyomizudera Photo:Autumn Leaves at Kiyomizudera, Kyoto, Japan Kiyomizudera is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kyoto, Japan. The autumn leaves begin to appear on the temple grounds around mid-November, and the best time to view the autumn leaves is from late November to early December. The sight of approximately 1,000 maples in various shades of red, orange, and yellow is simply stunning. During the peak of the season, many people from both around Japan and abroad visit Kiyomizudera to enjoy the magnificent autumn leaves. Kiyomizudera has a special nighttime viewing and illumination event when the autumn foliage is at its best as well. Unlike the brightly colored leaves illuminated by the sun, the orange glow of the illuminated leaves creates a fantastic atmosphere on the temple grounds at night. You can enjoy also view the autumn leaves from different perspectives depending on where at the temple you view the from. The combination of the autumn leaves with the large platform at Kiyomizudera and the three-storied pagoda is sure to make for some excellent photography that will trend on Instagram. [Video] 6:35 - Kiyomizudera Tofukuji Temple – Autumn Leaves at the Popular Temple in Kyoto Photo:Autumn leaves at Tofukuji Temple, Kyoto, Japan Tofukuji Temple is a temple that regularly ranks among the best places for viewing autumn leaves in Kyoto. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Tofukuji Temple is from mid-November to early December, and on November 23, which is Labor Thanksgiving Day each year in Japan. Many tourists visit in the fall to see the autumn leaves, and the temple can be quite crowded when the illumination is taking place. If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting early in the morning on a weekday. The main attraction of Tofukuji Temple is Tsutenkyo Bridge that connects the main hall and Kaisando Hall. Underneath the bridge is a colorful valley called Sengyokukan, and the spectacular view created by the historic architecture and the magnificent carpet of autumn leaves is beautiful beyond words. The autumn leaves at Gaunkyo Bridge, which resemble a sea of clouds, and Hojo Teien, a garden with a checkered pattern, are 2 must-see attractions. [Video] 5:01 - Tofukuji Temple A Must-See Autumn Illumination at Eikando Temple Photo:Eikando Temple, Kyoto, Japan Eikando Temple, one of the many famous places for autumn leaves in Kyoto, is in fact so famous for its autumn leaves, that a poem was written about it in the Kokin Wakashu, a collection of early waka poetry dating back more than 1,000 years. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Eikando Temple is during the short period from mid-late November. The highlight of Eikando Temple is the fantastic sight of the colorful leaves enveloping a pagoda, which is located at the highest point of the temple's grounds. Approximately 3,000 maple trees decorate the pond garden and the pagoda, creating lovely views around the area. Don't miss the illumination and exhibition events that take place in autumn as well. The events allow visitors to appreciate valuable temple treasures that are designated as Important Cultural Heritages, and that are not usually available for viewing. We recommend taking an evening stroll through the illuminated precincts of the temple, Amida Hall, and the garden. The exhibition and the illumination events have different entrance times and a separate entrance fee is charged for each. [Video] 3:24 - Eikando Temple Rurikoin Temple – A Reflection of Autumn Leaves on the Floor Photo:Rurikoin Temple, Kyoto, Japan The autumn leaves at Rurikoin Temple have been attracting a great deal of attention in recent years, especially on social media. The highlight of Rurikoin Temple is the popular sight of the autumn leaves filling the windows on the second floor of the shoin (study) and the reflection of the autumn leaves on the floors. Photos of the autumn leaves here have gone viral on social media, and Rurikoin has become one of Kyoto's most popular places to view the autumn leaves. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Rurikoin Temple is from late November to early December. The period from November 1 to December 4 is a pre-reservation viewing period, so reservations must be made on or after October 10 through Rurikoin's official website. Since the number of visitors is limited by advance reservation, visitors can enjoy the autumn leaves at their leisure. [Video] 9:14 - Rurikoin Temple Hogon-in Temple – A Hidden Gem in Kyoto Photo:Hogon-in Temple's autumn illumination Hogon-in Temple is one of the pagoda temples of Tenryuji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Arashiyama, Kyoto, and is open to the public only on special occasions in the spring and fall. The highlight of Hogon-in Temple is Shishiku Garden (lit. "Lion's Roar Garden"), a popular spot for photography. In the spring, it's a great place to enjoy the fresh greenery of the maple trees. The best time to view the autumn leaves at Hogon-in Temple is from mid-November to early December. A special autumn viewing and a nighttime illumination is held in conjunction with this period. Consider taking a leisurely tour of the garden while admiring the fantastic autumn leaves. [Video] 13:27 - Hogon-in Temple The Quaint Autumn Leaves of Enryakuji Temple, on Mt. Hiei Photo:Mt. Hiei, Shiga, Japan Mt. Hiei, which straddles the border between Shiga and Kyoto prefectures, is home to Enryakuji Temple, the head temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, and the entire mountain is designated as a temple area. The autumn leaves on Mt. Hiei begin to appear around mid-October, a little earlier than places at lower elevations, and the best time to view them is from late October to mid-November. Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei is the collective name for three areas: To-do (the eastern pagoda), Sai-to (the western pagoda), and Yokawa. All areas offer spectacular views, but the To-do area is particularly popular. This area is known as the birthplace of Enryakuji Temple, where the Buddhist monk Saicho founded Enryakuji Temple, and Konpon Chu-do, the main hall of the temple, is designated as a National Treasure. The view from the high elevation of Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei and the peaceful mountain atmosphere are unparalleled. [Video] 11:43 - Mt. Hiei Summary of Famous Places to View the Autumn Leaves in Kyoto In Kyoto during autumn, visitors can enjoy the colorful autumn leaves along with historic buildings and elegant cityscapes. In addition to the places introduced here, there are many other places famous for their autumn foliage, including Arashiyama, one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Kyoto, famous for its bamboo forest. Even within Kyoto City, the best time to view the autumn leaves varies from place to place, so it's important to double-check the latest information in advance. About the Fukushima Oze Introductory Video This video, titled "OZE.jp Fukushima Oze PR Movie," was released by "PrefFukushima." "Fukushima Oze," introduced in the video, is the nickname for the route and area leading to Oze from the Fukushima Prefecture side. Oze National Park is a vast area of natural marshlands that spans four prefectures: Fukushima prefecture, Gunma prefecture, Niigata prefecture, and Tochigi prefecture. Oze is famous for Ozegahara, a marshland on the Gunma side, but the route that enters Oze from the Fukushima prefecture side is called Fukushima Oze, and it has also been gaining popularity as a sightseeing route full of natural scenery. In this video, you can see two women trekking the mountain while traveling around Fukushima Oze. Hiking at Fukushima Oze Photo:Lake Ozenuma, Fukushima Prefecture Walking along the promenade of Fukushima Oze Route, you can enjoy the natural scenery of Japan's four seasons. Take a shuttle bus to Numayama Pass, the starting point of the Oze Route, and then proceed to the Oe Marsh, which can be seen from 1:15 in the video. You'll also find seasonal alpine plants, such as skunk cabbage and day lilies, blooming in the Oze Highlands and around Lake Ozenuma in the spring, creating a magnificent view, as shown at 0:51 in the video. Sightseeing Locations at Fukushima Oze Photo:Ozegahara seen from Hiuchigatake, Fukushima Prefecture There is a fishing pond full of char in Hinoemata, a village where you can enjoy fishing surrounded by nature. We definitely recommend stopping by Sanjo Falls, one of the Top 100 Waterfalls in Japan. In Oze, be sure to drop by famous places, such as Hashiba no Banba and Seirou-zukuri Itakura (セイロウ造り板倉), a famous place in Nushiri-daira. Hinoemata Shrine also has a stage where you can see traditional Hinoemata Kabuki. The area around Hiuchigatake, one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, that can be seen from 1:34 in the video, is another recommended sightseeing route. Visit the summit of Hiuchigatake from Lake Miike via Hirosawa Tashiro and Kumazawa Tashiro. After sightseeing in Oze, you can head over to Hiuchi no Yu (燧の湯), a hot spring at the foot of Mt. Hiuchigatake. There is also an open-air outdoors bath, so you can spend an excellent time bathing while gazing at the vast nature. Events and Gourmet Food in Oze Photo:Shrine at Mini Oze Park, Fukushima Prefecture The "Fukushima Oze-Hinoemata Mountain Festival" is held every year at Fukushima Oze. There are hiking tours, outdoor events, stage shows and workshops, and markets where you can shop for outdoor goods, so we recommend lining up your trip to visit Fukushima Oze at the time of this event. If you're looking to enjoy delicious food in Oze, we recommend Aizu's famous mountain dish, "Tachi-soba." At Mini Oze Park, you can buy a mysterious dessert called "salamander gelato" (サンショウウオジェラート). Summary of Fukushima Oze Photo:Fukushima Oze, Fukushima Prefecture Oze, with its abundance of nature, is closed in the winter due to the cold weather, but is a great tourist attraction for hiking in the warmer months. In addition to beautiful natural spots like the ones shown in the video, there are also spots where you can enjoy traditional performing arts and local cuisine, so be sure to check it out!
