Wooden Racing Bike Every summer, led by woodworking instructors, the Woody Summer School runs as a two-night, three-day program. This year’s project was a racing bike. The sample displayed at Kimu looked so finely made it seemed ready to race off at any moment. Participants cut and shaved parts and progressed their work using the machines in the woodshop. When I dropped in on the second day’s work, everyone concentrated on the instructions. While they carefully focused on their projects, I snapped photos with my camera. The three days were packed with Nishiokoppe-specific activities, like eating Setoushi-kun-yaki and sipping blueberry juice during tea time, strolling through Kamu no Hana, and making stick bread over a bonfire. Each finished piece showed the participant’s own original decorations, giving a glimpse of their personal touches. After the work, the tables were scattered with handwritten notes and the tools used for painting. Although the period was short, it was good to see that everyone completed their projects.
