[Rousoku Dase]
August 7 is Tanabata Day in Hokkaido.
In Nishiokoppe Village, children parade through the village
on a day when they collect treats — not candles!
“Rousoku dase, dase yo!”
When they reach a house prepared with sweets,
the children sing in unison.
Since this happens only once a year, they sang timidly at first.
Watching parents clapped and join in singing to cheer them on.
As more sweets piled up,
their singing grew more spirited.
At the final stop, the elementary school,
they sang loudly and scored fireworks!
Even after walking for over an hour, the children still had boundless energy.
They went wild for sparklers and aerial fireworks.
While parading through town,
a middle schooler carried bags of candy, and older elementary kids
walked hand in hand with nursery children.
That sight made for a heartwarming night.
