About 1100 years ago, in the 11th year of Sadakan (870), it was built during the reign of Emperor Seiwa and is revered as a water god.
The spring water that gushes out of the limestone cave of Mt. Gion in a corner of Myomi Shrine is called "400 million years of Shizuku Myomi Sacred Water" and has been said to be "the sacred water of breastfeeding" since ancient times, and has been selected as a Heisei one of the 100 best water sources.
