In the "Izumo Fudoki", which is said to have been completed in the fifth year of Tenpei (733), it appears under the name of Mt. Honogami no Take, and is the most venerable mountain in the history of Japan.
The popular tourist spot "Daisenji" has a history of flourishing as a training dojo for Shugendo who take refuge in mountain worship, and the area around the approach is also popular as a famous spot for autumn leaves.
The white snow that accumulates on the summit of Mt. Oyama in winter harmonizes with the autumn leaves, further coloring the superb view.
