At the Hakone Ekiden, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, there was a lot of cheering from the roadside on both the outward and return journeys, and the players were impressed by the scene where they ran hard to win the championship. The trophy commemorating the outgoing victory is made of Hakone parquet, a traditional craft of Hakone, and by putting together trees of different colors to create a pattern, no two things can be the same, and it is the only championship cup in the world.
