Wakayama Castle - One of the Top 100 Japanese Castles This video, titled "[Wakayama - Japan's Top 100 Castles] Residence of the Kishu Tokugawa Family" (【和歌山/日本100名城】紀州和歌山城/紀州徳川家五十五万石の居城 - Wakayama Castle in WAKAYAMA, JAPAN -), was uploaded by "Channel WASABI," a channel that introduces beautiful scenery and famous travel destinations. The video introduces Wakayama Castle, located in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture, in Japan's Kansai Region. The history of Wakayama Castle dates back to 1619 when Tokugawa Yorinobu, the tenth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, entered Wakayama Castle and established the Kishu Tokugawa family. The castle later became the residence of the Kishu Tokugawa family of the Kishu domain (present day Wakayama and southern Mie), one of the three Tokugawa families. In this video, you can enjoy the charm of Wakayama Castle and its long history. The Charm of the Wakayama Castle's Keep Structure! Natto for People Who Hate Natto?! Making Red Soybean Natto! Kyo-Natto Made by a President Who Used to Hate Natto!

Red Soybean Natto Video Introduction This video, titled "How to make a Delicious Japanese "Kyo-Natto" Amazing "Natto" Master in Kyoto Japan![ASMR][DELI BALI]," was uploaded by "DELI BALI." This series features Kyo-natto, a popular product in Japan's Kansai region, made by Fujiwara Foods, near Kuramaguchi Station in Kyoto. Check out the video below to see how the delicious Kyo-Natto is made. Red Soybeans - One of the Many Varieties of Soybeans! Photo:3 types of soybeans Did you know that there are many varieties of soybeans? When you hear the word "soybeans," the first thing that comes to mind is probably the common yellow soybean. However, there are actually other varieties of soybeans, including red soybeans, green soybeans, and even black soybeans. Among the many varieties, red soybeans are a rare variety with few farmers growing them. Their nutritional value and flavor are superior to those of other varieties, and they are highly sought after. Different Ways to Eat Red Soybeans One problem many people have with natto is that the soybean skin remains in their mouth even after they've finished eating. The skin of red soybeans is so thin that it easily passes through the teeth, and the texture is pleasant, so the skin does not remain in the mouth. Also, because of its strong umami flavor, many recipes have been published for people who want to taste the full flavor of the bean, such as nimame (boiled soybeans). In addition to the sweet nimame, there are many other ways to enjoy soybeans, such as boiled in salted water, served with rice, or with spinach and tofu dressing. There are many different recipes to try out. In this video, red soybean natto is used as an ingredient. Kyo-Natto - The Creme de la Creme of Natto Source :YouTube screenshot The video introduces Fujiwara Foods, a leading natto manufacturer in Kyoto. In addition to natto made from common soybeans, the company also produces red soybean natto and green soybean natto. Several types of natto, including "Kyo-Natto Otsubu" (京納豆大粒, Large Bean Kyo-Natto) and "Kamogawa Natto" (鴨川納豆, Kamo River Natto), which won an excellence award for five consecutive years at the Japan Natto Competition, are loved by many natto fans. The process of making red soybean natto begins with the artisan's hand washing of the beans. The beans are gently washed by hand and soaked in water until they are about twice their original size. From there, the red soybeans are cooked in a pressure cooker. In the video, you can see the pressure cooker, which is full of Fujiwara Foods' commitment and history. After the beans are cooked, natto bacillus is immediately sprayed on the beans. Before the beans cool down, the natto is packed and left in the fermentation room for another 20 hours before the red soybean natto is finally ready. President Fujiwara says he never liked natto and did not want to take over his family's business. However, he is now known as a natto maker with fans not only in Kyoto but all across Japan. Summary of Kyo-Natto, a Natto Made With Red Soybeans Natto is a food for all genders and ages because of its high quality protein, so much so that it's called "Hatake no Niku" (畑の肉, 'the meat of the fields') in Japan. Furthermore, in recent years, soybeans have been attracting attention from people interested in dieting as a low-sugar food. Natto is made from fermented soybeans, which makes it even more nutritious. However, as the president of Fujiwara Foods disliked natto, it is a food that Japanese people are quite divided about. For those who dislike the smell, using spices such as wasabi, garlic, or curry seems to make it easier to eat. Be sure to give it a try if you dislike natto yourself. Even some natto lovers probably didn't know that there's red soybean natto and green soybean natto, or they may have known about them but have never eaten them. You'd be surprised at how different the different types of soybeans are. Red soybean natto is on a whole different level from regular natto. Be sure to give it a try! -

The view of the bay has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Landscapes of Japan." The Beauty of Kabira Bay has earned it three stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan. Popular Scuba Diving Spots on Ishigaki Island! Photo:Scuba diving on Ishigaki Island, Okinawa There are many beautiful scuba diving spots and must-see locations around Ishigaki Island. Here are a few places we recommend checking out: ・Kabira-Ishizaka Manta Scramble (川平石崎マンタスクランブル) - A place scuba diving spot where you can dive with manta rays ・Yoshiwara Arch (吉原アーチ) - A fantastical underwater scuba diving spot where the light shines beautifully through the exit of the arch ・Jukabijin (樹下美人) - A tree-shaped root with schools of fish dancing around it ・Arakawa Double Arch (荒川Wアーチ) - An arch with two tunnels, crevasses, and other terrain ・Yonehara Double Reef (米原Wリーフ) - A scuba diving spot that can be enjoyed by beginners and expert divers alike These are only some of the scuba diving spots you can find on Ishigaki Island, but there are many more. Things to Do on Hatoma Island – A Lesser-Known Destination in Okinawa Hatoma Island is a small island with a population of just 50 people. Although the island does not attract as many people as other tourist sites, it's a place where humans and animals coexist in harmony. With beautiful sandy beaches and coral reefs there's plenty to enjoy here. You can even see wild goats in town. Both children and adults can enjoy snorkeling on the sandy white beaches. Legends of Mermaids on Aragusuku Island Photo:Aragusuku Island, Taketomi, Okinawa Aragusuku Island is said to have once been inhabited by dugongs, and you can even find Ningyo Shrine (人魚神社, lit. 'Mermaid Shrine') on the island that only islanders are allowed to enter. It's a mysterious island with many other forbidden areas. Aragusuku Island consists of two islands, Kamiji Island and Shimoji Island, which are not accessible by regular boats and can only be reached via tours departing from Ishigaki Island or Iriomote Island with local guides. The islands are known as snorkeling spots where you can enjoy nature. Things to Do on Kuroshima Island – A Unique, Heart-Shaped Island With Fresh Air, Sea Turtles, and More! Photo:Kuroshima Island, Okinawa Kuroshima Island is known as "Heart Island" because of its heart-like shape. It is also known as a nesting ground for sea turtles, and the island is home to the Kuroshima Research Institute, which researches sea turtles and other marine life. Interestingly, the cow population on Kuroshima is 10 times that of the human population, so visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of cows dotting the landscape. Visitors also can enjoy swimming and snorkeling at Nakamoto Beach, located on the west side of the island. Jungle Tours and Cave Exploration on Iriomote Island, the Last Unexplored Island in Japan Photo:A jungle tour on Iriomote Island, Okinawa Iriomote Island is referred to as "the last unexplored island in Japan" and is covered with pristine subtropical virgin forests and mangrove forests at many river mouths. Iriomote Island offers many activities to enjoy its great nature, including scuba diving, kayaking, spelunking, and jungle trekking tours. Other Things to Do on the Yaeyama Islands! Photo:A starry sky from the Yaeyama Islands In addition to the islands mentioned above, there are several other remote islands in the Yaeyama Islands which have their own charms. Hateruma Island, the southernmost inhabited island in Japan, is home to the beautiful sea dubbed Hateruma Blue and starry skies, which are a prime location for stargazing. To get to Hateruma Island, you'll have to take a high-speed boat (ferry) from Ishigaki Island. Taketomi Island, a small island southwest of Ishigaki Island, is a popular remote island where you can fully experience the tropical atmosphere of Okinawa. The buffalo cart tour, which takes you to traditional Okinawan houses with red-tile roofs, banyan trees, coral trees, and other seasonal flowers, all while listening to Okinawan folk songs played by the guide, is extremely popular. Kohama Island, located on the east side of Iriomote Island, is one of the leading resort areas in the Yaeyama Islands. Although Kohama Island is home to famous resort hotels, much of the nature on the island remains untouched, and there is even a famous road called Sugar Road that passes through the middle of sugar cane fields. It's a popular location that has been used in many Japanese television dramas. Yonaguni Island, Japan's westernmost island, is full of attractions, such as Tategami Rock (Standing God Rock) and Gunkan Rock (Battleship Rock). Yonaguni Island is also home to a hill where you can view the last sunset in Japan each day, as well as spots that are thought to be underwater ruins. In addition to scuba diving, you can enjoy glass boat and snorkeling tours as well. In addition, tourists to Yonaguni Island can purchase souvenirs in the souvenir store at Yonaguni Airport to commemorate their trip to the island. For example, you can buy hanasake (a special type of spirit, made only on Yonaguni island, with 60% alcohol content), as well as straps and drawstrings made of Yonaguni ori (Yonaguni brocade), a vivid fabric with 500 years of history. How to Get to the Yaeyama Islands & Visiting Other Islands: Ferry Schedules + Prices As we mentioned above, New Ishigaki Airport is the gateway to the Yaeyama Islands. As such, visitors to the island will need to travel to the island by plane. Flights are available from all major airports in Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Okinawa. Flight prices and times will vary by location. In the past, there was a ferry from Naha that took visitors directly to the Yaeyama Islands, but the service was discontinued in 2008. After you've arrived on Ishigaki Island, you can visit the other islands via ferry. Most islands have regularly scheduled ferries, but some islands have just 1-2 ferries scheduled each day, so we recommend looking up ferry timetables before visiting. Please also keep in mind that because travel time to each islands varies, so to do ferry ticket prices. Round trip tickets can cost anywhere from 1,500 yen (~10 USD) to 6,000 yen (~42 USD). Summary of the Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa If you haven't already watched the video, be sure to take a look at it, as you can see incredible aerial views of the islands in Okianwa, Japan. The Yaeyama Islands are a place where you can enjoy untouched nature, as well as scuba diving and snorkeling in crystal clear waters. The Yaeyama Islands also offer a unique cultural experience, different than you'll find on mainlaind Okinawa. With all this in mind, what are you waiting for?! Plan your trip to the Yaeyama Islands! 【Trip Advisor】Okinawa, Japan -

The Hydrangeas of Mimurotoji Temple in Uji, Kyoto: Video Introduction This video, titled "【4k】Hydrangea of Mimurodo temple: Kyoto)" (【4k】三室戸寺・あじさい園-Hydrangea of Mimurodo temple:Kyoto), was uploaded by "Anna Film Production." Mimurotoji Temple (三室戸寺, Mimurotoji, also read as Mimurodoji), located in Uji, Kyoto is a famous location for its beautiful hydrangeas. This video released in 2018 shows the beauty of the hydrangea garden while lit up at night. [Video] 0:36 - Illuminated Hydrangeas at Mimurotoji Temple The History of Mimurotoji Temple and Its Connection to the Tale of Genji Photo:Mimurotoji Temple, Kyoto Mimurotoji Temple, an important temple in Western Japan, dates back to the Nara period (710-794 AD). According to temple legends, it was founded by a high-ranking Buddhist monk at the request of Emperor Konin in 770 A.D., approximately 1,200 years ago. Mimurotoji Temple was written "御室戸寺" (Mimurotoji) in Chinese characters when it was built, but after it was used as a detached palace for Emperor Konin, Emperor Kazan, and Emperor Shirakawa, it was renamed as "三室戸寺" (Mimurotoji) by replacing the first character "御" (an honorific character) with "三" (three), to signify the three emperors. After many ups and downs, the current main hall was rebuilt in 1814 in the late Edo Period, thanks to efforts by the monk Honyo. The temple is considered to be the model for the mountain temple depicted in Uji Jujo (The Ten Chapters of Uji), one of the final sections in The Tale of Genji. The name "Ukifune," which is a name of a part of the chapters, is engraved on a bell in the temple cast around 350 years ago, and the name "Ukifune" is also engraved on the ancient monument next to the bell. These facts suggest that the temple has been associated with the Tale of Genji since at least the early Edo period (circa 1603 to 1700 A.D.). Mimuroto-ji Temple, one of the best hydrangea garden in Kyoto, will be open from early June in 2024. What are the hours of illumination and admission fees? The Rock Ptarmigan - An Endangered Species This video, titled "Endangered Species|Rock Ptarmigan|A Precious Encounter Whilst Mountain Climbing|Special Edition (4k)" (絶滅危惧種 雷鳥 登山で出会った貴重なニホンライチョウ動画 特集 【4K】), was created by "Yamacchi channel" (やまっちchannel). It contains footage of the rock ptarmigan, a protected species in Japan, as well as the Crested ibis and Red-crowned crane. Due to the effects of global warming, the number of rock ptarmigan in Japan has dwindled to around 1,500 and it is now recognized as an endangered species. This video contains a compilation of footage of the adorable rock ptarmigan, which was spotted whilst mountain climbing. In this article, we'll introduce the rock ptarmigan, an endangered species! More About the Rock Ptarmigan, an Endangered Species Photo:Tateyama ptarmigan Said to have survived the ice age, the rock ptarmigan is now an endangered species belonging to the order Galliformes, family Phasianidae and genus Lagopus (キジ目キジ科ライチョウ属, kijimokukijikaraichouzoku). The subspecies of rock ptarmigan which inhabits Japan is a very adorable and friendly bird, making it a favorite among mountain climbers. It has a characteristic call that sounds similar to that of a frog. From 0:14 in the video you can see the rock ptarmigan at Mt. Senjo (仙丈ヶ岳, senjogatake), and at Mt. Tsubakuro (燕岳, tsubakurodake) from 1:38, Mt. Chogatake (蝶ヶ岳, chougatake) from 2:09, and Mt. Jonen (常念岳, jounendake) at 2:04. Rock ptarmigan chicks average 6 cm in height. A fully grown adult rock ptarmigan measures 37 cm in height and weighs approximately 400-600g. They lay their eggs in early summer from the beginning to the middle of June. The color of their feathers also changes depending on the season. In summer, their feathers are a dark brown color, and in winter they change to a snowy white. Furthermore, the rock ptarmigan is a symbol of Toyama Prefecture (富山県 toyamaken), Nagano Prefecture (長野県, naganoken) and Gifu Prefecture (岐阜県, gifuken). Photo:Northern Alps The rock ptarmigan lives in a harsh environment at an altitude of 2,400 m. In the warmer summer months they live in the alpine zone, moving to the subalpine zone in the cooler winter months. In 1980, there were an estimated 3,000-4,000 rock ptarmigans living in Japan. However that number has dropped to around 1,500. The effects of global warming are considered to have been the direct cause of this decrease in numbers. It is thought that the decrease in creeping pine (ハイマツ, haimatsu) numbers, a main food source for the rock ptarmigan, due to global warming is one of the main causes of the decline in rock ptarmigan numbers. Several measures are being taken in order to conserve the rock ptarmigan, such as protecting the species from predators and breeding in zoos. Incidentally, rock ptarmigans have been kept in Ueno zoo (上野動物園, uenodoubutsuen) since 2019. The Habitat of the Endangered Rock Ptarmigan Photo:Tateyama mountain range and a ptarmigan There are 6 genera and 17 species of rock ptarmigan found across the world. They can be found in North America, the coast of the Arctic Ocean in Eurasia, Europe, and the alpine zone in Asia. In Japan, they inhabit the central area of Honshu (Japan's main island) (本州中部地方, honshuuchuubuchihou). In this video, you can see footage of the rock ptarmigan spotted whilst climbing Mt. Senjo, Mt. Chogatake, Mt. Tsubakuro and Mt. Jonen. Snacks shaped like rock ptarmigan are sold in Nagano prefecture, the home of the Northern Alps. A similar bird, the Hazel grouse (エゾライチョウ, ezoraichou), of the genus Tetrastes (エゾライチョウ属, ezoraichouzoku), inhabits Hokkaido (北海道), Japan's northernmost Island. Summary of the Endangered Rock Ptarmigan Source :YouTube screenshot This video "Endangered Species|Rock Ptarmigan|a Precious Encounter Whilst Mountain Climbing|Special Edition (4k)," created by "Yamacchi channel" (やまっちchannel), contains footage of the rock ptarmigan, an endangered species. We highly recommend the video to animal lovers as it has footage of the rock ptarmigan from different places all over Japan! Heisenji Hakusan Shrine in Fukui: Video Introduction This video, titled "【Fukui/Famous Tourist Attractions】Heisenji Hakusan Shrine - A Temple Covered in Moss - Heisenji Hakusan Shrine in FUKUI, JAPAN -" (【福井/観光名所】平泉寺白山神社/青苔が広がる苔の宮 - Heisenji Hakusan Jinja in FUKUI, JAPAN -), was uploaded by "channel WASABI." This video shows you the charms and history of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine with a video tour through its moss-covered cobblestone paths. Please enjoy the 7-minute video showing the solemn atmosphere of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine. Heisenji Hakusan Shrine: The History of the Shrine & the Deities Worshipped There Photo:Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, Katsuyama, Fukui Heisenji Hakusan Shrine is located in Katsuyama, Fukui, in Japan's Koshinetsu region. Its history dates back to 717 AD, during the Nara Period (710-794 AD). The shrine is the predecessor of Heisenji Temple and was founded by the monk Taicho Taishi. Later, it became a branch temple of Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hieizan, and as the base of mountain worship in the Echizen Province, it boasted such prosperity that it had 48 shrines, 36 halls, and 6,000 monasteries. However, it was burned down during a civil rebellion in the Sengoku Period (1467-1615 AD). Moreover, Heisenji was banned during the Meiji Period as part of an order to separate Shintoism and Buddhism. Later, Hakusan Shrine was built on the site and became the current "Heisenji Hakusan Shrine." Located within the specially designated Hakusan National Park area, the site is a well-known tourist attraction in Fukui Prefecture, and is designated as a National Historic Site under "Former Precincts of Hakusan Heisenji Temple." Heisenji Hakusan Shrine is dedicated to the oldest goddess of well-being for couples, Izanami no Mikoto. In Japanese mythology, she is the creator of the Japanese continent and other gods in Japan and is considered the greatest god among them. It is believed that she blesses the well-being of couples, families, and future generations. In this vast area, many ruins have been discovered, though only a few have been studied. As researchers dig deeper, they discover more and more artifacts, such as cobbles and items from the schools of monks from medieval Japan. It's believed that there are still many more hidden treasures beneath the ground. The Best Seasons to Visit to See the Beautiful Mossy Temple Photo:Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, Katsuyama, Fukui Heisenji Hakusan Shrine is famous as a moss temple. From the cedar grove, to the boundary stones along the approach to the shrine, to the stone pavement leading to the hall of worship, the spacious shrine grounds are covered in beautiful green moss. The best time to view the approximately 100 varieties of moss is during Japan's rainy season from June to July. During this season, when the mosses are even more beautiful, it can feel as if you've wandered into another world. Spring brings fresh greenery, while in early summer the heavenly water-laden mosses shine even brighter. Autumn brings colorful foliage, and winter brings snowy landscapes. The contrast of the four seasons at Heisenji Hakusan Shrine is so incredible that it's hard to believe such beauty was created by nature. Heisenji Hakusan Shrine is the northern center of worship for Mt. Hakusan and is a popular power spot. If someone is available at the shrine office, have a goshuin stamp put directly into your stamp book if you're collecting them. Beautiful Echizen washi (Japanese paper) is used for the goshuin stamps. Attractions at Heisenji Hakusan Shrine Photo:Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, Katsuyama, Fukui There is much more to see at Heisenji Hakusan Shrine than just moss, and while the time required for a visit varies depending on how you choose to tour the grounds, it generally takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours. You can request a guide up to 7 days in advance, so you can plan your visit in accordance with your travel itinerary. Here are some of the highlights of the shrine. The Cobblestone Paths Leading to the Garden The cobblestone paths at Heisenji Hakusan Shrine are included in the list of Top 100 Roads in Japan. It's said that about 1,000 years ago, ascetic monks carried stones from the Kuzuryu River to make them. [Video] 0:30 - The Cobblestone Path Leading to the First Torii Gate The Second Torii Gate The second torii gate of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine has quietly watched years of history unfold before its eyes, with visitors such as Minamoto no Yoshinaka praying for victory in battle, or Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Benkei passing through the gates. The second torii gate also has an unusual shape with a roof over it. Mitarashi Pond This spring was discovered by the great Buddhist monk Taicho Daishi on his way to Mt. Hakusan. Legend says that a goddess appeared before him and instructed him to ascend to Mt Hakusan. [Video] 1:48 - Mitarashi Pond Surrounded by Dense Greenery The Giant Cedar of Wakamiya Hachiman Near Wakamiya Hachiman is a massive, majestic 450-year-old cedar tree. The Main Shrine Pavilion of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine In 1795 AD during the Edo Period (1603-1868), Shigetomi Matsudaira, the samurai in charge of the Echizen province (today known as northern Fukui Prefecture), rebuilt the main pavilion of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine. The door of this shrine opens only once every 33 years, and the next time the door is scheduled to open is in 2025. On the door, there are spectacular sculptures of mythical creatures, including Kirin and Dragons. The best way to get to Heisenji Hakusan Shrine is by car. It has a parking lot that can accommodate 30 standard vehicles and it costs 300 yen to park, in order to fund maintenance of the historical landmark. The Kominato and Isumi Railways: Video Introduction This video, titled "[4K UHD] Kominato and Isumi Railways in Spring (shot on Samsung NX1)" ([ 4K UHD ] 春の小湊鉄道といすみ鉄道 - Kominato railway and Isumi railway in Spring - (shot on Samsung NX1), was uploaded by "AQUA Geo Graphic." The video shows the Kominato Railway (小湊鉄道, kominato tetsudo) and Isumi Railway (いすみ鉄道)—which run across Chiba prefecture's Boso Peninsula—in spring. No matter your age or where you come from, this is definitely a place you'll want to check out, especially if you’re a train enthusiast. Visible in the window across from the train driver are the figures of excited children. Check out this uplifting three-and-a-half-minute video, filled with pink cherry blossoms and vibrant yellow rapeseed blossoms. [Video] 1:28 - Cherry Blossoms, Rapeseed, and the Smiling Faces of Children The Difference Between the Isumi and Kominato Railways Photo:Kominato Railway The Isumi Railway covers around 27 kilometers on the JR Boso line (JR房総線, JR Bososen), stretching from Ohara station (大原駅, ohara-eki) to Kazusa-Nakano station (上総中野駅, kazusanakano-eki). The Kominato Railway makes up around 39 kilometers of the JR Uchibo line (JR内房線, JR uchibo sen) between Goi station (五井駅, goi-eki) and Kazusa-Nakano Station. The two railways meet at Kazusa-Nakano station, and if you switch trains there, it's possible to ride across the entire Boso peninsula—just the right distance for a railway day trip. There's even a "Boso Coast to Coast Commemorative Ticket" (房総横断記念乗車券, boso odan kinen joshaken) available as a souvenir via a collaboration between the two companies. If you're visiting from Tokyo, it should take a little under an hour via the JR Sobu Rapid (JR総武快速線) and Uchibo lines. Arriving at Chiba's Goi station, a walk across the bridge will take you to the local line (the Kominato railway) and the start of your journey. In a location that can be enjoyed as a day trip from downtown Tokyo, those with train-loving kids can have an enjoyable day out as well. Cherry Blossoms & the Nanohana Ressha on the Isumi Railway Most famous amongst the Isumi railways trains is the "Nanohana Ressha," (菜の花列車, lit. 'Rapeseed Train'), whose rolling stock is yellow, just like the rapeseed blossoms. The best time to see the rapeseed that lines the railway and is famous for its incredible views is between early March and early April of each year. From late March, the cherry blossoms are in season, and by early April you can see beautiful scenes of cherry blossom in full bloom. Keep an eye on the cherry blossom bloom maps and enjoy both cherry blossoms and rapeseed blossoms from the window of a train. The Best Spots to Photograph the Isumi Railway's Rape Blossoms & Cherry Blossoms! Photo:Isumi Railway On the Isumi Railway between Kazusa-Azuma Station (上総東駅, kazusa azusa-eki) and Nittano Station (新田野駅, nittano-eki), Shiromiaoka Station (城見ヶ丘駅, shiromigaoka-eki) and Otaki Station (大多喜駅, otaki-eki), as well between as Fusamoto station (総元駅, fusamoto-eki) and Nishihata Station (西畑駅, nishihata-eki), you can see rapeseed blossoms and cherry blossoms competing for the spotlight. See if you can't capture a shot of the pinks and yellows under the blue skies of spring. Rapeseed blossoms bloom along 15 kilometers of the Isumi Railway's 27-kilometer span, meaning you can enjoy them along almost the entire length of the track. If you're a train enthusiast, finding the best photo spot is part of the fun! The Isumi Railway is often compared to Moomin Valley in Japan. The comparison originates from the Moomin Train (ムーミン列車, mumin ressha) which operated on the line until March 2019. Apparently at the time there was a Snufkin Lake, and statues of popular characters such as the Moomins, Little My, and Snufkin, in addition to the Moomin-themed trains. There's no doubt that the lush scenery was a good match for the world of the Moomins as well. The Best Spots to Photograph the Kominato Railway Photo:Kominato Railway's Satoyama Romantic Train Kominato Railway's Satoyama Romantic Train (里山トロッコ, satoyama torokko) is hugely popular with tourists. Rail enthusiasts gather from across Japan to get a photo of the sightseeing train against the backdrop of the rapeseed blossom fields. A particularly notable photo spot is the Ishigami Rapeseed Blossom Field (石神菜の花畑, ishigami nanohana-batake), which allows visitors to take some really incredible photos. ■ Ishigami Rapeseed Blossom Field | Chiba, Ichihara, Ishigami, 225 If you get off part way along the Kominato Railway, you'll find Yorokeikoku Station (養老渓谷駅, yoro keikoku eki), where there is a footbath that is available free of charge when using the railroad. It's a 15-minute walk from the station. People visiting by car can use the parking lot by the road—from which there are several superb photo spots within a few minutes' walk—and wait for the sightseeing train. Incredibly, the sightseeing train actually slows down as it passes through the middle of the rapeseed blossom fields—a show of consideration for railway enthusiasts. [Video] 2:18 - The Sightseeing Train Passing Through Rapeseed Blossom Fields Additionally, within the wooden station building of Tsukizaki Station (月崎駅, tsukizaki-eki) is Mori Radio Station (森ラジオステーション, mori rajio suteshon), a popular tourist attraction also known as "Mori Radio" (森ラジオ, mori rajio). The building, which was originally a filling station for railroad maintenance workers of the Kominato Railway, was exhibited as an art installation covered with moss and wildflowers during the Naka-boso International Art Festival's (中房総国際芸術祭, nakaboso kokusai geijutusai) Ichihara Art x Mix (いちはらアートxミックス, ichihara ato x mikkusu) event in 2014. Its atmospheric appearance makes it a popular spot for tourists even now. [Video] 2:53 - Mori Radio Station, Covered in Moss and Wild Grasses Another recommended stop on the Kominato Railway is Itabu Station (飯給駅, itabu-eki). Known as the "world's largest toilet," the spot is quite popular during the daytime. It's a single toilet, surrounded by glass walls that was created as an art installation. At night, the station is popular as a place to take photos of the illuminated cherry blossoms along with the trains. Sightseeing Along the Kominato and Isumi Railways While the cherry blossoms and rapeseed are of course beautiful, they're best enjoyed between visits to various tourist attractions along the railway lines. Below is a list of several tourist attractions you can consider visiting along the railways. Yoro Valley (Yorokeikoku Station) Yoro Valley (Yoro Gorge) is one of the most famous hot spring areas in Chiba Prefecture, and is located roughly in the middle of the Boso Peninsula. Kasamori Temple (Kazusa-Ushiku Station) This temple sits atop a large boulder and features a unique architectural style. Founded in 784 AD, the temple has been dubbed the "Temple of Prayer and Fragrance" thanks to the lovely scent of the flowers that cover the temple grounds. But for those of us not familiar with Oze, here's a quick introduction. Oze is a plateau that straddles the four prefectures of Fukushima, Niigata, Gunma, and Tochigi. Oze is a basin surrounded by 2000-meter-tall mountains, such as Mt.Shibutsu (至仏山, Shibtsusan), Hiuchigatake (燧ヶ岳, Hiuchigatake), Mt. Keizuru (景鶴山, Keizuruyama), and Mt. Nakahara (中原山, Nakaharayama). The marshland centering on Oze Marsh, which is said to have been formed around 10,000 years ago, was designated as Oze National Park (尾瀬国立公園 Oze Kokuritsu Koen) in 2007 and as such, the terms "Oze" and "Oze National Park" are synonymous with one another. Oze National Park is a major scenic spot that has been selected as one of the Top 100 Views of Japan. Other than the marshland of Oze Marsh, many ponds and swamps can be seen on the nearby mountainsides. After the snow melts in May, all the plants and trees bloom at once. There are boardwalks and benches as well, so visitors can enjoy a refreshing walk while taking in all of the natural scenery. The Skunk Cabbage of Oze National Park – A Treat for the Eyes Photo:Skunk cabbage Asian Skunk Cabbage is characterized by its large white petals, but these white petal-like things are not actually petals, rather, they are bracts, which are specialized leaves. Skunk Cabbage is called "Mizubasho" in Japanese (水芭蕉, lit. 'Water Banana'). The name comes from the shape of its leaves, which resemble those of the Japanese banana plant, and from the fact that it grows near water. It's a perennial plant of the arum family that grows in mountainous marshlands, and its flowers are at their best from late May to mid-June in Japan. Although bloom dates are dependent on the amount of snowfall each year, the best time to see skunk cabbage in Oze National Park is the same; late May to early June. In the first week of June especially, Oze National Park is crowded with tourists looking to see the clusters of skunk cabbage in bloom. The Nature of Oze National Park & 2 Popular Hiking Courses in the Area There are many hiking courses in Oze National Park, but the two most popular hiking courses are the Ozegahara Course and the Ozenuma Course. These two courses are recommended for first-time visitors to Oze National Park. Incidentally, the hiking course introduced in the video is the Ozegahara Course. Photo:Ozegahara ●Ozegahara Course This course circles Oze Marsh, the largest marshland on Japan's mainland. The boardwalk is well maintained, so even beginners can walk the course with ease. [Main route] Hatomachi Toge (鳩待峠, Hatomachitoge)→ Yamanohana Visitor Center (山ノ花, Yamanohana)→ Kamino - Ohori River (上ノ大堀川, Kamino Ohori Kawa)→ Ushikubi (牛首, Ushikubi)→ Miharashi (見晴, Miharashi)→ Ryugu Hut (龍宮小屋, Ryugu Goya) (Overnight stay). ※If you're visiting on a day trip, turn back at Kamino - Ohori River or Ushikubi. Ryugu Hut→ Miharashi→ Akatashiro Branch (Akadashiro Bunki)→ Yoppi Suspension Bridge (ヨッピ吊橋 Yoppi Tsuribashi)→ Ushikubi→ Yamanohana Visitor Center→ Hatomachi Toge [Video] 1:28 - Walkers on a Well-Maintained Wooden Path Photo:Oze Marsh and Hiuchigatake ●Ozenuma Course This is a hiking course around Lake Ozenuma and it's the course with the least amount of inclines and declines. Although this course can be hiked on a day trip, it's recommended that you stay overnight at a lodge. Lake Ozenuma at sunset with the stars in the night sky makes for an unforgettable experience. The Numayama Pass Observation Deck (沼山峠展望台, Numayama Toge Tenboudai) is located at the end of a conifer forest uphill from the Oze Numayama Pass bus stop. Here you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Ozenuma. On the first day, go to Sanpeishita (三平下) via the east bank of Lake Ozenuma. From Sanpeishita, you can see Hiuchigatake (燧ヶ岳, Hiuchigatake) and Lake Ozenuma, making it a popular vantage point. On the second day, start from the south bank of Lake Ozenuma to Numajiri (沼尻, Numajiri). Numajiri is also a beautiful place with ponds and in spring and summer, you can see pygmy water-lilies and Japanese thistle. After passing through the north bank of Oze Marsh, return to Numayama Pass. [Main route] Numayama Pass→ Ozenuma Villa (Overnight stay) Ozenuma Villa→ Numajiri→ Oze Marsh→ Numayama Pass Hotels, Hot Springs, and Where to Eat Near Oze National Park Photo:The Hatomachi Toge Rest Area The Hatomachi Toge Rest Area is located at Hatomachi Toge, the starting point of Ozegahara in Gunma Prefecture. Many tourists use this spot to prepare before hiking and to eat. The Hanamame Soft Cream ice cream is also popular. For visitors to Oze National Park, we recommend the Sky Terrace (天空テラス, Tenku Terasu) located 2,000 meters above sea level and the free Foot Bath in the Sky (天空の足湯, Tenku no Ashiyu). It takes about 15 minutes by the Nikko Shiranesan Ropeway (日光白根山 Nikko-Shirane San) to reach the summit station. Located on the border with Nikko, Tochigi, you can relax while enjoying a view of Mt. Nikko-Shirane. At Oze Katashina, a roadside station in Tone, Gunma Prefecture, visitors can enjoy direct sales of fresh highland vegetables from Katashina Village (片品村, Katashina Mura), as well as delicious meals prepared using locally grown vegetables at Katashina Diner (かたしな食堂, Katashina Shokudo)" and "Village People's Kitchen (村民キッチン, Sonmin Kicchin)." If you are considering staying near Oze National Park, Oze Hut (尾瀬小屋 Oze Koya) is another great spot we recommend. Despite the name of "hut," it's clean and has excellent facilities, such as the Oze Hut Terrace (尾瀬小屋テラス Oze Koya Terasu), which is open to outside visitors, as well as hot springs. The food is so good that it's hard to believe that it's located in the middle of Oze Marsh. How to Get To Oze National Park From Tokyo From Tokyo there are several ways to get to Oze National Park and there are also several different trailheads to enter the park from. From Tokyo, the easiest entry to the park via public transportation is the Hatomachi Toge trailhead. Tokyo Station to Oze National Park: Hatomachi Toge Trailhead From Tokyo Station, take the Joetsu Shinkansen to Jomokogen Station (1 hr. 10 mins), from Jomokogen Station, take a Kan'etsu Bus to Numata Station (25 mins), from Numata Station, take a Kan'etsu Bus to Togura Station (1 hr. 15 mins), and from Togura, once more take a Kan'etsu Bus to Hatomachi Toge (35 mins). In total it will take approximately 4 hours to reach the Hatomachi Toge trailhead from Tokyo Station. Keep in mind that this is just one route and there are many different trailheads with which to start a hike in Oze National Park. Summary of Oze National Park's Charming Skunk Cabbage Oze National Park is the largest high-altitude marshland on Japan's mainland, and straddles the four prefectures of Fukushima, Niigata, Gunma, and Tochigi. Because of its vast geographical area, you can enjoy the nature of Oze with both hiking and overnight stays. When the short summer comes, various flowers bloom in Oze National Park. From late May to June in particular, when skunk cabbages, the representative flower of Oze National Park, are in bloom, many people visit Oze National Park to see the beautiful scenery. The beautiful spring in Gifu Prefecture is said to be visited by many tourists from both Tokyo and Osaka. It can be enjoyed in the video and images in this article. A variety of colorful water lilies can be seen in the spring, including yellow water lilies and more in just a 3-minute video. What Is Monet's Pond? Photo:Gold carp Monet's pond is an officially unnamed pond about the size of a tennis court, formed from the spring water around Nemichi Shrine (根道神社, Nemichi jinja) in the mountains. It was popularized through TV programs and word of mouth as the real life version of "Water Lilies" by the famous French painter Claude Monet. The beautiful Monet's Pond, has colored carp (錦鯉, Nishikigoi) swimming through its transparent waters and is great for taking Instagram photos. There are koi whose head patterns look like heart symbols in the pond, as well as gold carp for good luck. The History of Monet's Pond In 1999, the nearby flower seedling producers weeded and some carp were brought in by locals. It's purpose was not sightseeing, so it was mere chance that such natural beauty came to be. Golden Week in 2016 even attracted 3,000 tourists per day! Highlights and Recommended Seasons for Visiting Monet's Pond Photo:Monet's Pond The best time to visit Monet's Pond to experience its full beauty is during the fall when you can enjoy the magnificent view of the autumn leaves reflecting off the pond's surface. This can be seen from 1:10 in the video. We also recommend going in early May when the spring greenery is fresh or in the winter to see the beautiful snowscape. As the appearance will change considerably depending on the weather, we recommend avoiding rainy days and going at night. Access to Monet's pond is about 35 minutes from the Mino IC on the Tokai Hokuriku Expressway. You can also go to Gifu Prefecture through a sightseeing bus tour around Monet's pond and other surrounding areas. Sightseeing at Monet's Pond Photo:Grilled sweetfish Around Monet's Pond you'll find shops selling the famous "chimaki" (a dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaf), so be sure to give it a try if you get the chance! We also recommend trying the specialty eel or sweetfish (ayu cuisine) lunch in Seki. When visiting Monet's pond, you can visit the Gifu Prefecture Hundred Year Park, Kasuga Shrine, Asakurayama Promenade, Kifune Shrine, Kaore Valley, Takaga Valley, Seki Blacksmithing Tradition Museum, Koka Shrine, Horado Enku Memorial Hall, Roadside Station "Rusten Hola Do," and more. The Itadori Hydrangea Festival is held in early summer in Seki, so be sure to visit Flower Park Itatori when the hydrangeas are at their best. Summary of Monet's Pond This time, we introduced a 4K video of Monet's Pond, a pond as beautiful as beautiful as an impressionist painting. Monet's Pond is perfect for those who want to enjoy the charming scenic beauty of nature, as well as photography lovers. Book a hotel in Seki and set out on a sightseeing trip to enjoy the amazing views in the area. If you like the artistic scenery of Monet's Pond, we recommend visiting Monet's Garden in Kitagawa, Kochi Prefecture. The landscape of Monet's Pond changes depending on the weather. Joenji Temple, a Hidden Gem for Cherry Blossom Viewing in the Skyscraper District of Nishi-Shinjuku This video, titled "[Sakura] Joenji Temple - Tokyo - 常圓寺 - 4K Ultra HD," was uploaded by "TokyoStreetView - Japan The Beautiful." There are places to view cherry blossoms in Tokyo, and Joenji Temple, located in Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku, Tokyo, in Japan's Kanto region, is one of them. The area around the cherry blossoms is lined with high-rise office buildings and luxury hotels, and the weeping cherry blossom standing majestically in the midst of the metropolitan skyscrapers is a hidden gem for viewing cherry blossoms. From 0:08 in the video, the cherry blossoms can be seen lit up at night, a sight that will make you forget that you're in the middle of a city. Surprisingly, there are many temples and shrines in the Shinjuku area, and once you begin to look for them, you'll find many power spots where the hustle and bustle of the city seems to disappear. The temple shown in the video, Joenji Temple, is located along the busy Ome-Kaido (Ome Highway), but once you set foot on the approach, you'll feel as though you've stepped into another world. Joenji Temple – The History of Shinjuku’s Hidden Gem for Cherry Blossom Viewing Photo:Weeping cherry blossoms at Joenji Temple, Shinjuku, Tokyo Joenji Temple is located just six minutes from Shinjuku Station on foot, and is said to have a history dating back 600 years. The temple was moved from Hatagaya, Shibuya, to its current location in Nishi-Shinjuku on September 13, 1585. The precincts of the temple are approximately 1,100 tsubo (~3,600 Sq. m) in size, and include the main hall, the soshi-do (founder's hall), a large study, Naka-mon Gate, the bell tower hall, the storehouse, and other halls. The large weeping cherry tree that appears in the video is planted near the temple gate, and when it is in full bloom, the cherry blossoms can be seen from the Ome Kaido that runs beside Joenji Temple, attracting many visitors every year. The large weeping cherry tree has been called one of the "Three Trees of Edo" and "One Hundred Cherry Trees of Edo" since the Edo period (1603-1868). Unfortunately, during WW2, most of the temple was destroyed by air raids, but in 1952, thanks to the contributions of the temple's parishioners, the temple was rebuilt after the war. Since Joenji is a Nichiren-Shu temple and its scripture is the Lotus Sutra, the Shoin (temple office) also serves as the Joenji Institute of Nichiren Buddhism, and there are gravesites of historical figures such as Tsutsui Masanori (a historical site designated by Shinjuku Ward) on the temple grounds. The current head priest is Genichi Oikawa, who inherited the Triratna from the 40th head priest of Joenji. Sakura, Sakura – A Traditional Japanese Folk Song Photo:Someiyoshino cherry blossoms The background music used in the video is the folk song "Sakura, Sakura," which any Japanese person knows. (It is commonly known in Japanese as simply "Sakura"). There is a theory that this song was originally written as a Koto exercise, but the author is unknown. It was not until the Meiji Period (1868-1912 A.D.) that the song was popularized as "Sakura Sakura," and in the Showa Period (1926-1989) it was selected as a song for elementary school music lessons. In addition, there are two versions of the lyrics, one written in the Meiji Period (the lyrics used in this video) and the other revised in 1941. The 1941 version seems to be the one adopted in most school education today. The lyrics can be translated as follows: Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms, In fields, mountains and villages As far as the eye can see. Is it mist, or clouds? Fragrant in the rising sun. Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms, Flowers in full bloom. Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms, Across the spring sky, As far as the eye can see. Is it mist, or clouds? Fragrant in the air. Come now, come now, Let's go and see them. (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakura_Sakura#Lyrics) The best time to see and see the weeping cherry blossoms at Joenji Temple in Shinjuku The highlight of Joenji's cherry blossoms is "Daishidare-zakura," which usually reaches its peak from late March, but in 2023, it bloomed earlier than usual on March 19th for 4 minutes and was in full bloom on March 19th. The lights will also be lit up according to the best season. The towering buildings and weeping cherry blossoms behind you are a great photo spot.It entertains many people's eyes. Tokyo's cherry blossom forecast for 2014 is March 23.On the official website of Sangwonsa Temple, the blooming status and lighting period of the cherry blossoms are updated from time to time, so please check them out. Summary of Joenji Temple, a Hidden Gem for Cherry Blossoms in Shinjuku, Tokyo Photo:Joenji Temple, Shinjuku, Tokyo Joenji Temple is about a 6-minute walk from Shinjuku Station on the JR and private railway lines. The temple is located along the Ome Kaido, a main highway, making it very accessible. The large weeping cherry trees on the temple grounds are a must-see! Please note that the bloom season is short and there is a slight time lag in updating bloom information on bloom tracking websites. There are many other shrines and temples in the area between Nishi-Shinjuku and Higashi-Shinjuku where Joenji Temple is located, so be sure to check them out when visiting Tokyo, and collect your goshuin stamps! 【TripAdvisor】Joenji Temple https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g14133673-d8036422-Reviews-Joenji_Temple-Nishishinjuku_Shinjuku_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html -

The temple belongs to the Honganji School of Shinshu Jodo Buddhism and is also known as "Haha no Tera" (母の寺, lit. "Mother's Temple"). The temple is called the "Nikko of the West" (a reference to the beautiful Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Tochigi prefecture) for its beautiful color and design, and pagodas modeled after ancient buildings. In 2003, 15 of its buildings were designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. Kosanji Museum exhibits many Important Cultural Properties and nationally designated Important Works of Art. This collection was originally assembled to furnish Chouseikaku Villa, which was built as both a villa and as the resting place for Kozo Kosanji's mother, and later for the temple and the opening of the museum. Immediately after the end of WWII, the museum began displaying and exhibiting the collected works of art, and in 1953, it was reestablished as a nationally registered museum, which it remains to this day. The majority of the collection consists of Buddhist art, tea ceremony art, and modern art, including a famous statue Amida Nyorai (Amitabha) with a crown of gold, which was by constructed by Kaikei, a Buddhist priest of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). What is the Hill of Hope? Photo:The white marble garden at the Hill of Hope in Onomichi, Hiroshima The Hill of Hope, located on the grounds of Kosanji, is a 5,000 square meter white marble garden. Its pure white beauty is reminiscent of the Greek island of Santorini. The marble used in the garden was mined from Carrara, Italy, where the world-renowned sculptor, Itto Kuetani, has his studio. Monuments of various shapes and sizes are placed on the hill, and paths and plazas have been created. Mr. Kuetani created these monuments harmony with the surrounding scenery and nature. He hopes that visitors will enjoy the marble garden as a part of nature, and that they will let their imaginations run wild. Kosanji Temple's Hill of Hope, a unique tourist attraction in Onomichi, is now one of the most popular Instagram spots on the Shimanami Kaido. Particularly popular is "Koumei no To" (Tower of Light), which is placed at the highest point of the Hill of Hope, as if to join hands with the setting sun. In front of the white tower, visitors can take pictures against the sky above the Seto Inland Sea, making it a popular spot for couples and tourists in general. The Shimanami Kaido is dotted with popular tourist attractions and things to do along the way, has great scenery, and is a great way to explore the area. The cycling course will take advanced cyclists 3-5 hours to complete, and beginners should expect the course to take 8-10 hours to complete while stopping at tourist attractions and taking in the scenery along the way. There are bicycle rental terminals with which visitors can rent a bicycle in Onomichi and drop off the bike in Imabari (or vise-versa) after they finish the course, so there's no need to worry about hauling the bike back to where you rented it, or having to bring your own bike. The Oya History Museum in Utsunomiya, Tochigi: Video Introduction This video, titled "[Oya History Museum] A 6-minute tour of another world in Tochigi: The Oya Stone Mining Site 4K" (【大谷資料館】栃木にある異世界6分ツアー 大谷石採掘場跡 4K), was uploaded by "Tourist Attraction Japan." The Oya History Museum is located in a mysterious underground space with vast stone structures that are illuminated. In the video, you can see the beautiful 4K footage showing what resembles an underground temple. When lit up, the quarry ruins become an artistic space. Take a moment to check out the video that condenses some of the best parts of the Oya History Museum into just 6 minutes of footage. Learn About the History of Oya Stone Mining at the Oya History Museum! Photo:The Oya History Museum, Utsunomiya, Tochigi Oya stone, mined mainly in Oya, Utsunomiya, in Tochigi Prefecture, became known throughout Japan when it was used as a building material for the former Imperial Hotel. At the Oya History Museum, visitors can learn about the history of Oya stone in the exhibition room on the ground level and at the Oya Stone Mining Site. Oya stone is made of hardened volcanic ash and pumice rock fragments. It is softer and easier to process than other stones, and was mainly used as a building material because of its excellent fire resistance. Mining began in the mid-Edo period (around 1700-1800 AD). At first, mining was conducted during the off-season, but by the Meiji era (1868-1912), had become a full-fledged industry. Later, mining was done by hand until the 1950s, when it was successfully mechanized. The Oya History Museum is a valuable place where visitors can actually see and learn about the history of Oya stone mining, including the changes in the mining process throughout the years. The Oya History Museum, a Filming Location for Japanese Movies and TV Dramas Photo:Illuminated Oya stone at the Oya History Museum, Utsunomiya, Tochigi The Oya stone Mining Site has been the filming location for many Japanese dramas, movies, and music videos. Popular films include Rurouni Kenshin, Assassination Classroom, and the Kamen Rider series, and dramas such as "The Brave Yoshihiko And The Seven Driven People." It has also been used for shooting music videos for musicians, such as the Japanese rock duo B'z. Here are some of the various highlights of the Oya History Museum: ●It's a Space Reminiscent of an Underground Temple Descending the stairs from the entrance to the basement, visitors will find a 20,000-square-meter space which looks like an underground temple from a science fiction movie. ●Recreation of the Hand-Digging Era With Dolls The museum uses realistic dolls to recreate the hand-digging mining that was conducted from the Edo period (1603-1868 AD) until the introduction of machines in 1955. ●Holes With Light Coming in From the Ground During the mining process, holes were drilled to check the digging position from the ground. The light shining through these holes is as artistic as calculated lighting. ●Mining Ruins Resembling Murals The patterns of the mining ruins on the walls are like contemporary artwork. The walls are also used for concerts and other events. Aerial Footage of Autumn Leaves, a Sea of Clouds, and Snow on Mt. Oe: Video Introduction This video, titled "Autumn Leaves, a Sea of Clouds, and Snow Landscapes on Mt. Oe via Aerial Drone Footage 4K" (紅葉と雲海、雪の大江山空撮 Drone aerial 4K shooting of autumn leaves, sea of clouds, and Mt. Oe with snow makeup), was uploaded by "Office WADA." It features aerial drone photography of the Oe Mountains in Miyazu, Kyoto! You can see the seasonal changes of the mountains from Miyazu Bay to Amanohashidate and Nariaiji Temple in 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Enjoy the spectacular autumn leaves and sea of clouds, and the snowy mountains in winter, some of the most spectacular views of the Oe Mountains. The Fascinating Mt. Oe – Legends of Demons and a Sea of Clouds. The Model for Demon Slayer? Photo:A sea of clouds at Mt. Oe, Kyoto, Japan The Oe Mountains are mountain range consisting of four mountains, Nabezuka, Hatogatake, Senjogatake, and Akaishigatake, located in Fukuchiyama, Yosano, and Miyazu, Kyoto, in Japan's Kansai region. They sit at an elevation of 832.5 meters. The Oe Mountains are said to have been inhabited by a demon called "Shuten Doji" in the mid-Heian period, and there are legends of demon exterminations. These exterminations of demons appear in the Noh play "The Oe Mountains" (大江山, Oeyama) and in the ancient Japanese text Jikkunsho, in the "Song of the Oe Mountains." "The Song of the Oe Mountains" is a story about the young Koshikibu no Naishi, a master waka poet who appears in the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu and daughter of Izumi Shikibu, composing a poem so skillfully that Fujiwara no Sadayori, another master waka poet, makes fun of her, asking, "Did your mother write this poem for you?" The song tells of Koshikibu no Naishi beating Fujiwara no Sadayori in a battle of words. The Oe Mountains have attracted a lot of attention due to the popularity of the hit anime Demon Slayer. In the fall, the mountain is known for its sea of clouds, where fog rolls in between the mountains. Onitake Inari Shrine, located at the 8th station of the Oe Mountains and accessible by car, is also a spot with a superb view of the sea of clouds, and is popular as a picturesque spot for photographers and instagrammers. Sightseeing & Spectacular Views on Mt. Oe! When to See the Autumn Leaves and Sea of Clouds Photo:The sea of clouds at Mt. Oe from Onitake Inari Shrine One of the most fantastic and spectacular views of Mt. Oe is the sea of clouds, and in fact, the time of year when this sea of clouds can be seen coincides with the time of year when the leaves turn red. The autumn leaves can be seen from late October to late November on Mt. Oe. The sea of clouds can be seen from mid-October to early December. If the conditions are right, during the autumn foliage season, you may be able to see both the autumn foliage and a sea of clouds. A sea of clouds forms between mountains in the early morning when there is a large temperature difference from that of the previous day. It's a special sight because it can only be seen at certain times of day, but it is difficult to climb mountains early in the morning. Many people wish to view the sea of clouds from a place that is easily accessible by car, and as a matter of fact, there is such a place on Mt. Oe. That location is Onitake Inari Shrine, which is located at the 8th station of the Oe Mountains. Located at an elevation of 640 meters, this is a great place to view the surrounding mountains and sea of clouds. The area surrounding Onitake Inari Shrine is a rare primeval beech forest, where visitors can enjoy a vast sea of clouds and autumn leaves at the same time. It's the perfect spots for taking photos! Another Way to Enjoy Mt. Oe – Hiking Another way to enjoy sightseeing in the Oe Mountains is mountain climbing and hiking. The Oe Mountains consists of four mountains: Nabezuka, Hatogatake, Senjogatake, and Akaishigatake, and can be enjoyed by both casual hikers and advanced climbers alike. The Nabezuka course alone or the two-mountain course from Hatogatake to Senjogatake can be completed in a half-day hiking tour. Alternatively, you can challenge three or more mountains for a full-scale mountaineering expedition. We also recommend staying at a hotel in Fukuchiyama and enjoying your time over several days to carefully enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains while climbing. If you're not confident in your mountain climbing/hiking skills you can always ask for a guide. We recommend them because they can help you discover things that amateur climbers tend to overlook and also ensure your safety. Sightseeing at the Japanese Oni Exchange Museum – The Home of Shuten Doji Photo:The Japanese Oni Exchange Museum Here we'll introduce you to the legends of demons (oni) in the Oe Mountains, which have been passed down for generations. In the mid-Heian period (794-1185 A.D.), a terrifying oni named Shuten-doji lived in the Oe Mountains. Originally an exceptionally attractive human, he became a rampaging demon who ate people because of a grudge. This oni was also a great drunkard who could not be defeated by human powers alone. Minamoto no Yorimitsu was ordered to defeat this demon by making it drink sacred sake that was poisonous to demons. It's said that the demon Shuten Doji, who was "a demon consumed by alcohol," cursed Yorimitsu bitterly, calling him a coward, before he was beheaded. Besides the legend of Shuten-doji, there are two more legends of demons that have survived on Mt. Oe. Onitake Inari Shrine, located at the 8th station, is called the "home of demons." For those who wish to learn more, we recommend visiting the Japanese Oni Exchange Museum. The museum exhibits everything from the demons of Setsubun to legends of demons. It's a great way to enjoy the local culture of the Oe Mountains. Summary of Autumn Leaves and the Sea of Clouds at Mt. Oe If you're traveling to Mt. Oe to enjoy the autumn leaves and sea of clouds, we recommend visiting Onitake Inari Shrine in the early morning during November if you have the chance. On the way to Onitake Inari Shrine at the 8th station of the Oe Mountains from Prefectural Road No. 9 is the Village of Shuten-doji. This facility is also equipped with everything from tennis courts to barbecue houses, campgrounds, and lodges. If you're planning to stay near Mt. Oe to view the sea of clouds and autumn leaves, consider using the accommodations at the Village of Shuten-doji, which offers good access to Onitake Inari Shrine. 【TripAdvisor】Mt. Hokkaido's Asahiyama Zoo The video "JG 4K Asahiyama Zoo, Hokkaido" (JG 4K 北海道 旭山動物園 Asahiyama Zoo, Hokkaido), introduces Asahiyama Zoo, a popular tourist spot in Hokkaido. Asahiyama Zoo is 15 hectares. It's the size of about 3 Tokyo Domes. There are over 650 animals (100 species) bred in the park. The 20-minute video contains plenty of cute animals, so be sure to check it out! About Hokkaido Asahiyama Zoo Photo:Asahiyama Zoo Hokkaido Asahiyama Zoo, known as the northernmost zoo in Japan, is a historical zoo that opened in 1951. The special feature of Asahiyama Zoo is the "Behavior Exhibit" where you can see the behavior and life of the animals. The facility is designed to allow visitors to get up close and personal with animals that move around freely. To achieve this goal, penguins roam the park freely, and they hold an event to display meal time called "Munching Time." Another characteristic of Asahiyama Zoo's exhibition is the "mixed exhibition" in which different animals are raised in the same place. The Asahiyama Zoo was in danger of closing in 1994 (Heisei 6), but by incorporating these exhibits, the Asahiyama Zoo has recovered brilliantly. During its big boom, it became the nation's top zoo, attracting 3 million visitors annually. Currently, you can see behavior exhibits at zoos around the country. The Animals of Asahiyama Zoo Photo:Asahiyama Zoo From 0:25 in the video, you can see the popular penguins, and from 2:04, you can see the awesome appearance of the polar bears at the Polar Bear Hall. In the video, you can see the tiger at the "Fierce Animal House" (もうじゅう館) (15:29-), a snow leopard (15:38), an Ussuri brown bear (15:48), elephants, seals (9:41), red pandas (18:08), snowy owls (18:46), cranes (19:10), and eagles (19:27). The park is quite large, and visitors can enjoy a variety of facilities, such as the 360-degree underwater tunnel, a hippopotamus building, a wolf forest, flamingo house, monkey house, giraffe house, a suspension bridge, and a marine way. Although not shown in the video, you can see reindeer, hippos, giraffes, chimpanzees, ostriches, Japanese macaques, foxes, raccoons, capybaras and other animals as well. One of the attractions of the Asahiyama Zoo is its various events that are held throughout the year. During the Obon season, they extend their hours of operation to allow you to observe nocturnal animals in a different way than you do during the day. There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy lunch and a souvenir shop where you can purchase limited edition animal merchandise. Take your time and enjoy the sights along the tour. Summary of Hokkaido's Asahiyama Zoo Photo:A King Penguin Hokkaido has a variety of sightseeing spots, including Sapporo City, Furano, and Hakodate, so be sure to visit Asahiyama Zoo if you're headed that way. There are a number of sightseeing tours offered, but since your time at the zoo is limited to 2-3 hours, it may not be enough to enjoy all that the zoo has to offer. In winter, business hours are shorter, so please check the weather and other information before visiting. There are restaurants and hotels in the surrounding area, so it's a good idea to stay in Asahikawa and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. As of March 31, 2018, the Asahiyama Zoo Live Camera was discontinued, so please take the time to enjoy the animals' ecology through this video. ◆Asahiyama Zoo◆ 【Address】 Kuranuma, Higashi Asahikawa Town, Asahikawa City, Hokkaido 【Director】Gen Bando 【Access】About 40 minutes by bus from Asahikawa Station (2 hours from Sapporo).
