今日は諏訪市にある和菓子屋、園月堂本舗に行ってきました！

今回は福島店へ！皆さん、写真に何か気づきませんか？そう！園月堂さんに行くのが楽しみすぎて、お店の外観を撮るのをすっかり忘れてしまいました…！何たる失態！本当に食い意地が勝ってしまって…。ああ、恥ずかしい…。次回は必ずちゃんと撮ります！

園月堂本舗の女将、片桐さんにお話を伺いました。創業は昭和21年（1946年）で、今年で78年。最初は上諏訪駅前にあり、園月堂になる前の屋号で始められたそうです。その後、小和田、清水と店舗を拡大。現在は清水店と、平成4年（1992年）にオープンした福島店の2店舗で、美味しい和菓子を提供されています。

女将さんのおすすめは、復刻版の「湖城もなか」と「兜最中」！最中だけでも4種類ほどあり、本当にたくさんの種類がありました。女将さん曰く、「餡子もお店ごとに違うので、自分の好きな餡子を探してみるのも面白いですよ！」とのこと。また、「最近は外国人のお客様も少しずつ増えてきて、洋菓子のクリームに比べて和菓子はカロリーが低いことに気づかれたのかもしれませんね」とおっしゃっていました。

Today I visited Engetsu-dou Hompo, a Wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) shop in Suwa City!

I went to the Fukushima branch this time! Do you notice anything in the pictures? That's right! I was so excited to visit Engetsu-dou that I completely forgot to take a picture of the shop's exterior... What a blunder! My gluttony got the better of me... I'm so embarrassed... I'll definitely take a picture next time!

I spoke with Ms. Katagiri, the landlady of Engetsu-dou Hompo. They were founded in 1946 (Showa 21), making them 78 years old this year. They started in front of Kamisuwa Station under a different shop name before becoming Engetsu-dou. They then expanded to Owada and Shimizu. Currently, they offer delicious Wagashi at two locations: the Shimizu branch and the Fukushima branch, which opened in 1992.

The landlady's recommendations are the revived "Kojou Monaka" and "Kabuto Monaka"! There are about four types of Monaka alone, and a truly wide variety of sweets. According to Ms. Katagiri, "Each shop has its own unique Anko (sweetened red bean paste), so it's fun to find your favorite!" She also mentioned, "Recently, we've been seeing a gradual increase in foreign customers, and I think they've realized that Wagashi is lower in calories compared to Western sweets like cream cakes."
