Kikuchi City in Kumamoto Prefecture was home to the Kikuchi clan, who flourished for 450 years from the late Heian period through the Muromachi period.
This prominent clan made its name as a major samurai family, and its legacy appears in famous works such as The Tale of Genji, the Scrolls of the Mongol Invasions, and Taiheiki.
In Kikuchi, why not don the tsubo-zuoshoku, the travel dress of Heian to Kamakura princesses, and enjoy a stroll through town?
We provide the ichimegasa hat topped with the diaphanous mushi-no-tare-ginu (a sheer, organza-like drape), zori sandals, and a bamboo staff.
After dressing, a staff member will take one photo for you. You will receive that photo when you return.
Enjoy the feeling of a Heian princess as you visit Kikuchi Shrine, Kogenji Temple, and stroll the atmospheric Gosho Street.
Many photo spots dot the area. Please feel free to take your own pictures as well.
