You can enjoy wakasagi fishing on Lake Sahoro.
The wakasagi fishing season at Lake Sahoro officially begins tomorrow. Today the temperature was 0°C, the ice on the lake measured 20 cm thick, and sleet fell, but many anglers were already enjoying their first catches.
A temporary toilet has been set up in the parking area next to the fishing spot, and ice patrols on the lake will run from Tuesday, January 7 through Sunday, March 2, so preparations for the season are complete. As for catches, many anglers reported landing around 100 fish.
If this is your first time trying wakasagi fishing or you don’t have gear, Tokachi Outdoor Mates (TOM) [0156-65-2411] offers full rentals including tents, fishing equipment, and heaters, plus guided instruction on fishing techniques. On request they will also prepare tempura from the wakasagi you catch, so please contact them.
Today there was little wind and it didn’t get extremely cold, but this is a mountain valley with good airflow, so please come prepared with warm and windproof clothing.
