In the clear blue water, the huge wreck "Asahi 16" with a total length of 81 meters has an overwhelming presence 👏
This wreck lies in the sand at a depth of about 30 meters, and the depth of water on the deck is about 20 meters.

The ship was originally carrying gravel and is said to have sunk in 1986.
It is one of the largest divable wrecks in Japan, and its sense of scale is impressive! 🚢✨
Parts of the crumbling hull are thrilling 🤩, almost like an adventure movie

On a sunny day, the cave is flooded with light and has a fantastic beauty.

The theme of this design card changes every year. The theme for 2024 is sea turtles, which have been greatly damaged by ghost gear (discarded fishing nets), which has become a problem in recent years.

The message of this card is not only to improve your diving skills, but also to raise awareness of marine conservation and the protection of marine life.

Thereare, if you wish to use this specially designed card instead of the usual certification card, you will need to pay a donation of at least 500 yen per unit to a non-profit environmental protection organization called the AWARE Foundation. “Kitagawa Onsen Moon Road”
Kitagawa Onsen Moon Road was selected as one of Japan’s One Hundred Famous Moon Views as a moon to be treasured for generations. For three days around the full moon, on nights when the moon shines especially bright, a lunar path—the Moon Road—appears as moonlight paints a path across the sea. This scene is unique to Higashiizu, where the town’s entire east coast faces the ocean. On the night of the full moon many visitors come with cameras to capture the view.
Experience a mysterious moment long spoken of in local legend: “If you pray on the Moon Road under a shining moon, your wish will come true…” Come and see it for yourself.

At Izu Kitagawa Onsen, a representative spot for viewing the Moon Road, the “Nekosai Day” event is held on every full moon. “Nekosai” refers to a fixed-net fishery, and Nekosai Day offers prayers for the safety and big catches of fixed-net fishermen, with free charcoal-grilled fish served to visitors. Enjoy this full-moon hospitality in Izu Kitagawa, Higashiizu. (In 2025, Nekosai Day begins on the full moon of February 12.)

Today, Sunday, January 12, the 40th Donton-yaki festival was held at Atami Sun Beach.
This annual event is a long-standing tradition jointly organized by the ten neighborhood associations of the eastern and central districts.
This year too, residents and tourists gathered to circle the piled New Year decorations called an ‘onbe’.
At 11:00 a Shinto ceremony was performed by Chief Priest Amemiya of Kinomiya Shrine, and after the ritual the priest lit the fire. The ‘onbe’ blazed up vigorously as everyone prayed for health, academic success, prosperous business, and protection from fires.

The annual Atami Fire Department New Year Inspection will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Waterside Park event plaza.
This yearly event aims to boost the morale of professional and volunteer firefighters, showcase the full firefighting capabilities of Atami Fire to the citizens, deepen public understanding and trust in firefighting activities, and raise awareness of fire prevention.
At the ceremony in Waterside Park, following speeches and instructions, awards will be presented and the Junior Firefighting Club will perform the "Fire Safety Song and Fire Prevention Pledge." I took photos of the first sunrise of the year from Atami’s coastal Shinsui Park again this year. It wasn’t very cold and there was no wind, so the conditions were perfect!
I waited in the Third Section before 6:00, and around 6:15 the horizon began to turn orange; light started to break through shortly after 6:50. Some trees were slightly in the way below, so I hurried to the Second Section and took more photos there. The first sunrise was truly beautiful.
As in past years, many local residents and tourists gathered early at Shinsui Park to photograph the first sunrise of Reiwa 7.

May Reiwa 7 bring an even better year for everyone.
