The endpoint of Izu, the starting point of emotions. Minami-Izu Town, located at the southernmost tip of Izu, enjoys a favorable climate even on Honshu. It is a place where new emotions begin, as well as a destination to reach. With its beautiful white sands, Yuigahama, the dynamic cliffs of Irouzaki, and the crystal-clear waters of Hirizo Beach, this town offers a stunning landscape. In spring, early-blooming cherry blossoms and rapeseed flowers color the town, while summer brings lively beach activities and tide pooling. From autumn to winter, gentle sunlight and hot springs warmly welcome travelers. Throughout the seasons, a relaxed pace of life flows that cannot be experienced in the city. Moreover, this land, which has lived alongside the sea for centuries, is filled with warm connections between people and a simple yet vibrant culture. When you arrive at the end of your journey in Izu, something will begin to stir within you―― Minami-Izu Town is that "starting point of emotions."

Minami-izu Town, located at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula, is dotted with a wealth of geosites that give a sense of the workings of the Earth, including a complex coastline and dynamic cliffs created by undersea volcanic activity. Additionally, Mikomoto Island in Minamiizu Town is a world-famous diving spot where you can see schools of hammerhead sharks. Due to the influence of the Kuroshio Current, the area is extremely dense with fish, and there is a high probability of encountering large schools of fish (hammer rivers) from summer to autumn, attracting many experienced divers from both Japan and abroad. Located in the open ocean, you can enjoy drift diving (diving while being carried away by the current) and it boasts one of the world's highest concentrations of fish. -- For more information about tourism in Minamiizu Town, Minamiizu Town Tourism Association【official】 WEB:https://www.minami-izu.jp/?p=we-page-entry&spot=596705&cat=18711&pageno=3&type=spot...

Savor Higashiizu’s seasonal specialty: Inatori kinme. Kinmedai, or splendid alfonsino, is a beloved local specialty in Higashiizu. The fish landed at Inatori Port, known as Inatori kinme, stand out for their exceptional freshness and quality. Inatori kinme are caught with careful single-hook fishing and returned the same day thanks to boats that leave before dawn and come back in the afternoon. This day-trip fishing method keeps the flesh firm and full of fat. The recommended way to enjoy kinmedai is simmered in a savory broth, a preparation that brings out the fish’s rich flavor. In winter the higher fat content makes it especially delicious and a perfect match with steamed rice. When you visit Higashiizu, be sure to try the local taste of Inatori kinme!

“Kitagawa Onsen Moon Road” Kitagawa Onsen Moon Road was selected as one of Japan’s One Hundred Famous Moon Views as a moon to be treasured for generations. For three days around the full moon, on nights when the moon shines especially bright, a lunar path—the Moon Road—appears as moonlight paints a path across the sea. This scene is unique to Higashiizu, where the town’s entire east coast faces the ocean. On the night of the full moon many visitors come with cameras to capture the view. Experience a mysterious moment long spoken of in local legend: “If you pray on the Moon Road under a shining moon, your wish will come true…” Come and see it for yourself. At Izu Kitagawa Onsen, a representative spot for viewing the Moon Road, the “Nekosai Day” event is held on every full moon. “Nekosai” refers to a fixed-net fishery, and Nekosai Day offers prayers for the safety and big catches of fixed-net fishermen, with free charcoal-grilled fish served to visitors. Enjoy this full-moon hospitality in Izu Kitagawa, Higashiizu. (In 2025, Nekosai Day begins on the full moon of February 12.) For details about “Kitagawa Onsen Moon Road” and “Nekosai Day,” please check the Kitagawa Onsen Ryokan Association website. https://www.hokkawa-onsen.com/mangetsu_nekosainohi...

The 3rd Hosono Highlands Yamayaki Experience 🏔 What Hosono Highlands Is Like 🏔 Hosono Highlands spreads across the slopes of Mt. Amagi, which erupted between 800,000 and 200,000 years ago. The plateau covers about 125 hectares—roughly the size of 26 Tokyo Domes—and offers a majestic expanse of grassland. It is said to be a treasure trove of flora and fauna nurtured by volcanic terrain. In spring, you can forage for mountain vegetables such as bracken amid fresh greenery. In autumn, vast stands of golden susuki (silver grass) create a spectacular display. From the summit you can see Sagami Bay and the Izu Islands, where meadow and seascape combine into a unique panorama. Inatori Hosono Highlands has been recognized among the 100 Grassland Villages We Want to Preserve for the Future for the value of local knowledge, awareness, and skills accumulated through long interaction between people and nature. Hosono Highlands conducts an annual yamayaki (controlled burn) to maintain the grassland. During walks you can observe grass-cutting work performed in preparation for the burn. ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ 🔥⛰ What “Yamayaki” Means ⛰🔥 Yamayaki is an essential annual practice to keep Hosono Highlands as open grassland. By burning overgrown grasses and shrubs, the area is prevented from turning into forest, and the burned vegetation returns nutrients to the soil to sustain a rich grassland. This yamayaki has continued every year at Hosono Highlands since the Edo period. Because the plateau borders neighboring Kawazu Town, preventing fire from spreading across boundaries is critical, and the work must address elevation changes and steep slopes, so seasoned experience and advanced fire-management know-how are required. ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ● Event Overview Yamayaki is an activity necessary to keep Hosono Highlands as grassland and has continued annually since the Edo period. Hina dolls prayed to ward off misfortune from children and bring good fortune in life. On the Izu Peninsula, hina dolls are displayed with various wishes tied into hanging decorations on both sides of the tiered doll platform. This is a long-standing custom. The 28th Hanging Hina Decorations Exhibition 🌞 January 20 (Monday) – March 31 (Monday) 🌞 🍑 In the Inatori area of Higashiizucho, there has been a custom since the Edo period of hanging a pair of suspended decorations on either side of the hina platform for the Girls’ Festival. 🍑 The Inatori Onsen hanging decorations have been passed down through generations. A charming sight unfolds as many types of hangings—such as crawling-baby dolls modeled on infants, sanbaso performers, and rabbits—link together and drape down. This scene, a winter-to-spring specialty of Inatori Onsen, invites you with a parent’s loving thoughts for their child. A wide area of the southern Izu Peninsula, including Nishi-Izu and Minami-Izu, formed from submarine volcanoes and volcanic islands that erupted before Izu collided with the main island of Honshu. Senganmon, which lies at the end of a walking path, and Mt. Eboshi, seen to the right of Senganmon, are parts of a volcanic neck—the exposed "magma conduits" that once lay beneath submarine volcanoes. At Senganmon, a tunnel carved by the waves cuts through the center of the rock, forming a huge gate-like opening. Locals once likened this to the gate of Kumomi Sengen Shrine at the summit of Mt. Eboshi and called it Sengenmon, but it later became known as Senganmon, meaning it is worth a thousand kanme (an old measure of value), or "a gate worth a thousand coins."

Hello! This is the Kawazu Tourism Association. Sorry to keep you waiting! The "34th Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival" will finally be held from tomorrow! In this post, we will introduce recommended sightseeing spots when visiting Kawazu Town at the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival! This time, we will introduce "Amagisan Tunnel former Amagi Tunnel, Amagi Sanzuido". Mt. Amagi, which separates the north and south of the Izu Peninsula, was a major obstacle to transportation. With the completion of this tunnel, the difficult point of crossing Amagi has been resolved. Today, it is one of the famous places of the Odoriko Trail, and was designated as a national important cultural property for the first time in 2001 Heisei 13 as the longest and oldest stone road in Japan with a width of 4.12 m and a length of 445.5 m. The tunnel is built using a method called the "cut stone winding method", and the stone is made of Yoshida stone from the former Ōhito Town. ◆ Detailed information ◆ 【Spot name】Amagisan Tunnel Old Amagi Tunnel 【Address】National Highway 411 Shimoda Kaido / Amagi Kaido 【Phone number】0558-32-0290 Kawazu Tourism Association 【Parking lot】There is an aquatic underground parking lot for about 17 cars, a second floor waterfall parking lot for about 15 cars
