Enjoying the winter wonderland Abashiri. This spot is very famous fr drift ice festival, snow festival and also smelt fishing in lake abashiri. Wherever we go we see only white and white. Here we are enjoying the the miniature iglu which also protect us from the strong cold wind coming from the okhotsk bay. Photo taken by using timer.

During the winter, Abashiri lake becom a completely frozen lake. One even can walk in the middle of the lake. During this time smelt fishing is a very popular and exciting events in hokkaido. Several people come here and make a tent. Inside the tent they create a whole by digging out the snow to reach the lake water. Then they do fishing. Although the weather usually very cold but still it provide a great pleasure. In addition to this smelt fishing one can also enjoy the drift ice from the nearby Abashiri port

This time I want to recommend abashiri, a city on the northeastern coast of hokkaido. A city that faced toward sea of okhotsk. During winter you can enjoy drift ice festival. During this season they organize Lake Abashiri smelt fishing. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us. Here in this picture we were actually walking on the frozen lake abashiri. Here one can walk in the middle of frozen lake.
