Kunsuien is one of the villas owned by wealthy merchant Ichitaro Umezawa, who served as Iwanai’s first mayor. It features a single-story wooden house built around 1920 (Taisho 9) and a Japanese garden developed between 1897 (Meiji 30) and around 1913 (Taisho 2). Full restoration began in fiscal 2021 (Reiwa 3), and the work is finally complete this year! A pre-opening runs from April 30, 9:00–17:00. The Rekifune River Clear-Stream Koinobori is a spring tradition in Taiki Town that stretches colorful carp streamers across the full width of the Rekifune River each year from late April to early May. This year we increased the number of koinobori, letting them swim from one bank of the Rekifune River across the river and up over the riverbed. On Sunday, May 5 a mini event for children will be held. Enjoy a bouncy dome, maze, smart-ball games, a balloon kite exhibit, a dance performance by the Taiki Town street dance circle, a Mölkky experience, plenty of fun activities, and delicious food!
