Hiroshima Prefecture Shobara City | New Bakery News 🥖✨ Wakey Wakey Bakery, which just opened on Friday, October 17, 2025, is now featured on the Shobara Tourism Navi website! See spot details here 🔽 https://www.shobara-info.com/spot/5379... The shop name comes from the English word “Wakey,” meaning wake-up and used like a cheerful call to small children. It reflects the owner Rina Nagai’s personal touch—she studied abroad at a university in the State of California. Her wish is simple: to make bread that people want to eat as soon as they wake up, comforting and part of everyday life. The breads on offer use Rina’s original recipes, refined with techniques she learned while working at a bakery in the United States to bring out each item’s flavor. The most popular items are two character breads inspired by a Shiba Inu: Shiba-san (custard) and Nikukyuu Punch (chocolate). Inspired by childhood visits to bakeries with her parents, where character breads captured her imagination, she wanted to create breads that excite children. Basic Information Phone TEL 080-6068-0187 Address 1-1294-8 Nakahommachi, Shobara City, Hiroshima Prefecture Parking Available 1 space near the shop (No.7) Closed Monday; Wednesday to Thursday; Saturday to Sunday Hours Tuesday and Friday 10:00 until sold out

The heat has cooled down, and it’s about time for outdoor picnics🌸 . When that time comes, I recommend the bread and baked sweets from Karion (Hanasato-ne)! They offer classic breads like anpan and melon pan, plus seasonal breads, so you’ll have a hard time choosing which one to pick💦 Their gateau au chocolat is moist inside, richly chocolatey, and more substantial than it looks😍 . Karion’s breads and sweets are also sold at the Roadside Station Minami Echizen Sanka-ri in Minami-Echizen town, Shikisai, and the Honey Nanjo store!

Tokyo Bakery On this day, glutton Kasai visited the nearby Tokyo Bakery, famous for its delightfully chewy bread. The shop moved to its current location in 1989; before that, it was in Suehiro, Suwa. When Kasai was a child, his grandmother often bought Tokyo Bakery bread for him. So for him, this is the bakery that helped raise him—a place he feels free to claim as his own, haha. The bakery has been around for about 70 years. Remarkably, it even offers a bread reservation shelf where customers can reserve loaves. I had rarely heard of a bakery reservation system, so I was truly surprised. The shelf held many reserved items, showing just how popular the shop is. Your favorite loaf definitely needs a reservation 🥖 Glutton Kasai’s recommendations are: pain de mie, cheese baguette, bacon-cheese baguette, karashi mentai baguette (spicy cod roe), crunchy peanut baguette, an-butter baguette (red bean and butter), coarse-ground pork roll, pizza bread, burdock salad bread, fresh cream bread, Danish bread, cream doughnut, curry bread, deluxe frankfurter, an-doughnut (sweet red bean doughnut), angel bread, banana sandwich, and all types of sandwiches. Sorry… my love for Tokyo Bakery is so strong that I ended up recommending everything I’ve eaten. Right now, I’m secretly aiming for the “Parisien”!!! Find out what that bread is like when you visit 🎶 It sounds like a bread fit for a foodie. I want to hog the Parisien all to myself, haha—I might even dream about it 🤤 Tokyo Bakery’s loaves truly have an incomparable chewy texture!!! I can boast that, of all the breads I’ve eaten in my life, theirs are the chewiest. Is it a True Sleeper? Maybe not, but it’s that chewy, haha. Fans of chewy bread must try Tokyo Bakery 🥖 Glutton Kasai gives this bakery his highest recommendation! Please come and enjoy it 🎶 ◎ Tokyo Bakery 📍 Suwa City, Kowataminami 14-10 ☎ 0266-52-1299 ◎ Hours: 07:30 - 18:30 ◎ Closed: Sundays and national holidays ◎ Parking: About 10 spaces (including shared spaces with the neighboring boutique). The Tokyo bakery! This is glutton Kasai’s favorite bakery ever!!! The shop is so close to our office, and their bread has a wonderfully springy, chewy texture. Around 35 years ago, my grandmother bought my brothers and me sandwiches and breads from here. We loved them. They helped raise us to be big eaters! First of all, I was amazed by the bread reservation system. Have you ever heard of reserving bread? It’s wonderful! When I visit bakeries I often can’t find my favorite loaf and end up choosing something else, so a reservation system is perfect for me. There is a “bread reservation shelf,” and it was full of reserved breads. So nice! My recommendation at Tokyo Bakery? Absolutely everything!!! I promise you’ll be satisfied. I’m currently aiming for the “Parisienne.” It even appears in my dreams!! Hahaha! Their bread is like a spring bed—soft and springy. I want you all to try it!!! Gluttonous Kasai’s top-recommended bakery! ◎ Tokyo Bakery ● 14-10 Kowataminami, Suwa City ☎ 0266-52-1299 ◎ Opening Hours: 07:30 - 18:30 ◎ Closed: Sundays and national holidays ◎ Parking: Approximately 10 cars

Jun. 23, 2025
#008 [Tourist Spot Feature Part 2 ✨] Introducing Tsuno Winery, a sightseeing spot with panoramic views of Tsunocho! We’ll do our best to make this a place you’ll want to visit! Tsuno Wine has won numerous awards at home and abroad, and Tsuno Winery, where that wine is made, is full of charm. Here we introduce that wine and the winery. ◆About Tsuno Wine Because Miyazaki Prefecture traditionally has a shochu culture, wine never took hold easily, and the region was said to be an unfavorable environment for grape growing. Even so, the foundation built by Momoto Eitomo 102 has been handed down, and Tsuno Wine is made with the ambition to create wines that can compete on the world stage. Tsuno Wine is known for its Campbell Early rosé, which was actually selected in 2004 for the Wine Report’s “World’s Top 100 Wines,” and this rosé still attracts many repeat customers. Every year many of their wines win awards at domestic and international competitions, drawing buyers from within and beyond the prefecture as well as online customers from overseas. They also offer wines that are easy to drink for those who usually dislike wine, and even wines made with Miyazaki’s famous mangoes. So what kind of place is the Tsuno Winery where these wines are produced? ◆What kind of place is Tsuno Winery? Tsuno Winery sits on the Makiuchi Plateau, surrounded by Hyūga Nada and the Mount Osuzu range, offering sweeping views over Tsunocho. The site is famous as a night-view spot and for unbeatable views of the town’s fireworks. The site includes a shop with wine and a bakery, a wine brewery, and vineyards, and offers guided tours. You normally can’t enter the brewery, so it’s hard to know exactly how it’s laid out, but there is a spot in the shop where you can glimpse inside. You’ll be surprised by the size of the machinery! I haven’t personally been to the vineyards, but there is a row of grapevines by the parking lot, so you can get a pseudo-experience. And above all, the shop! It carries dozens of wines with detailed descriptions, making it easy even for beginners to choose. If you still can’t decide, someone knowledgeable about wine is usually nearby to ask. Beyond wine, the shop stocks many snacks that pair well with the wines, giving wine lovers a delightful dilemma. The shop also houses a bakery, attracting many visitors who come just for the bread. The selection is wide and changes day by day, which adds to the fun. When you visit Tsunocho, be sure to stop by. Next time in our tourist spot feature, we’ll cover the town’s roadside gateway, Roadside Station Tsuno. Stay tuned!!

Suwa Karin‑no‑Ki — a bakery committed to Hokkaido wheat and additive‑free dough On this day I, food‑lover Kasai, visited Suwa Karin‑no‑Ki. The owner opened the shop in May 2012 with a strong desire to bake bread that parents can feel safe giving to children and babies. The dough uses wheat from Hokkaido and contains no preservatives, artificial colors, or additives. ・Eggs ⇒ Eggs from chickens raised at the foot of Mount Yatsugatake ・Milk ⇒ Milk from Jersey cows raised on the Nobeyama Plateau ・Sausage and bacon ⇒ Additive‑free, showcasing the natural taste of the meat ・Wheat ⇒ Carefully selected Hokkaido wheat (e.g., Haruyutaka) About 25 types of bread (including seasonal items) are usually on display; when I visited around 2:00 p.m., many items were already sold out. The owner recommends enjoying the bakery's most popular bâtard with a dip of olive oil. I tried a rare matcha‑flavored melon pan and a rusk made from melon pan. The large, American‑style oat cookies were sold out that day, but they are excellent when available. Find your favorite bread and enjoy it! ◎ Bread Workshop Suwa Karin‑no‑Ki 📍 Suwa City Ote 2‑1‑2 ☎ 0266‑55‑4343 ◎ Hours: 10:00 – 19:00 ◎ Closed: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday ◎ Parking: Nawate Parking Lot (parking voucher available for customers who purchase) ◎ Payment: Cash, PayPay ◎ Website: https://treeofkarin.weblike.jp//

Wakamasu Bakery 🥖 @wakamasu_bakery (Instagram) A beloved shop frequented by regulars, I visited Wakamasu Bakery. The bakery has run for three generations from the founder to the current owner, moving from the original Ina shop to Suwa, and has continued for 99 years! Today, the owner and her father bake the bread together 🍞 Wakamasu began in Ina in the great-grandfather’s time, and the shop is linked to Nagano’s soul food, the gyūnyū pan (milk bread)!!! Pop-up signs in the shop explain the products and highlight their commitment to domestic wheat and sudakito (sudaki sugar), a mineral-rich sugar made from 100% cane. Their beloved “Milk Ball” is famous, and many regulars come just for it 🥖 ・A long-time favorite, the soft French-style roll filled with milk cream: the Milk Ball ・Owner’s pick: Cream Bread filled generously with homemade custard cream ・A recent hit: Croque Monsieur with homemade béchamel sauce, ham, and cheese ・Four kinds of sandwiches and two kinds of savory baked breads are available. ◎ Wakamasu Bakery 📍 4-11-10 Kogan Street, Suwa City ☎ 0266-52-3488 ◎ Business hours: 8:00 – 16:00 ◎ Business days: Thursday, Friday, Saturday ◎ Homepage: https://www.instagram.com/wakamasu_bakery/... Regular customers are hooked on Wakamasu Bakery’s Milk Ball! The owner’s great-grandfather started Wakamasu Bakery in Ina. Wakamasu Bakery has been in business for 99 years. Later, the owner’s father moved the shop to its current location in Suwa. Today, the owner and her father bake the bread together. Between you and me, Wakamasu Bread is connected to gyūnyū pan (milk cream bread). Nowadays the owner uses domestic wheat and sudaki sugar (a Japanese sugar rich in minerals). She is particular about ingredients. Anata Terasu: Tea, Healing, Fortune-telling, and Goods Today, Saturday, November 30, Anata Terasu took place at Miyazaki Sabo’s Barber House ☺️🍀 This event, which was also held in summer, is now at Volume 5 🖐️💡 A wood-burning stove warmed the shop, giving a gentle, happy warmth 😌💕 A wide range of fortune-telling and healing services were available 🫶 I asked Hikari Therapy for a guardian reading and a channeled message this time 🤗 I was surprised by some unexpected results 😳 but they might indeed be true 🤭 I felt encouraged to keep the messages in my heart and live joyfully 💪✨ While others waited for healing services, they relaxed, chatted, and enjoyed delicious tea, chiffon cake, and bread 🍵 Healing goods like warm items and other soothing accessories were on display, making for a lovely event where time flowed slowly ☺️✨ Actually, I’m typing this post while eating the hojicha chiffon cake I bought… and it’s unbelievably delicious 🥹💕 The rich hojicha flavor and moist chiffon texture are perfect… If you get the chance, please try it ✨ This was a rewarding event recommended for anyone who’s always busy and feeling a bit short on mental space 🥰

Deer Stew and Bread Making On a certain holiday, I heard that a dozen or so elementary school students had gathered. When I peeked in, some children were measuring flour and butter and mixing, while others were simmering something in pots. They were making a stew with venison and baking croissants! The stew started from scratch with a homemade brown sauce. The bread used a recipe said to be for advanced bakers, so they kneaded the dough carefully. In the spare moments, they played games like Old Maid with a deck of cards. I forgot to take a photo of the finished dishes, but everyone enjoyed the meal together.

Today, I would like to introduce "Fuya Bread", which has been in Hachioji for more than 100 years. This shop is a 2-minute walk from Hachioji station. It's a very personal story, but it's also the bakery where my grandmother, who passed away two years ago at the age of 99, used to eat when she was a child. My grandmother told me that she used to eat anpan a lot, so I bought anpan and three loaves of bread. The bread was small in size and had a very nostalgic earthy taste. There are so many international students who get addicted to Japanese bread and get fat. There are many 😊✨ unique shops such as popular melon bakeries and traditional bakeries in Hachioji.

Karasu no Pan-ya San at Nishiokoppe Village The picture book "Karasu no Pan-ya San" Have you all read it? To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its publication a "Satoshi Kako Reproduction Original Art Exhibition" was held at Komu Museum of Art and on September 24 during the exhibition period bread making from the picture book took place. Following the illustrations, participants tore off portions of pre-fermented dough, rounded them, and shaped them. When the baked bread arrived children peered in with excited faces to see how the bread they made had turned out. Finally, they drew patterns with chocolate pens and it was complete! The two who made the saw-shaped bread and the daikon-shaped bread let me take a collaborative photo with them!^^! After the event I quietly let my imagination run wild, wondering, "What sort of bread shape would make people happy?"

At the beginning of June the wheat fields that were still green turn golden, and harvest is about to begin. Otofuke, Japan’s top wheat-producing town. After the harvest, straw rolls rise up in the fields to become beds for cows. The harvested wheat is reborn as delicious bread and udon. Tokachi is full of excellent bakeries and pastry shops. Prices are very reasonable, with bread in the 100-yen range and cakes in the 200-yen range. Seeing the crops being grown like this naturally brings a feeling of gratitude for the food we eat.

We went to a small restaurant in Meguro called "Meguro Flat" over the holiday and had a really nice lunch together. The place had a nice atmosphere and seemed very multicultural. There were newspapers on the walls in some other languages I'm not sure what languages, but they were Latin based at least and posters of wines from different countries and the menu was interesting as well. If I remember correctly, jerk chicken is a local specialty of Jamaica and I've never had the chance to try it before, but this place was offering it so I decided to order it. It tasted really nice and the salad that came with it was refreshing. There was also a spoonful of mashed potatoes on the side with the pickled carrots and the place also offers all-you-can-eat bread! I love bread so that was a plus. My girlfriend ordered an assorted platter and the cream in the middle went really well with the bread so we got another free basket to eat it with lol. Incidentally, I look like I'm posing for the camera, but I was actually just admiring the atmosphere of the restaurant lol. Anyways, it's a nice place, so anyone visiting Meguro or looking for something to do should check it out. It's like a ~5 min walk from the station. I think the nighttime menu might be different as well, but I'm not certain of that.

[English/Japanese] Things that Surprised International Students When They Came to Japan: Food For international students, the first problem they encounter when they arrive in Japan is food. In this article, we will introduce Japanese food. What is this? Food I saw for the first time in a Japanese supermarket 1 Mushrooms and seaweed I was once asked about mushrooms by a Mongolian student. The Mongolian diet is basically meat-based and they eat very few vegetables. Among other things, they do not have the custom of eating mushrooms and were surprised to see mushrooms for the first time in Japan. In addition to mushrooms, foreign students often ask me questions about seaweed. I taught her how to cook mushrooms and seaweed, and she lost 44 pounds in a year! Now she has confidence in herself and does selfie every day. I was attracted by the smell.... The story of gaining weight from eating too much delicious food. 1 Ramen The number one thing that male students get addicted to when they come to Japan is ramen. Seeing the lines at popular ramen restaurants, some students may say, "It's strange that Japanese people want to wait in line to eat ramen," but after six months in Japan, they are standing in line for it. There are also many students who stock a lot of cup ramen in their rooms because it is cheap and quick to eat. However, some ramen soups are made with pork or beef, so if you are not allowed to eat ramen due to religious beliefs, please ask the store owner. One of our students even called a cup ramen company to ask about it. Let's learn the kanji for "pig" and "cow" as soon as possible. 2 Bread The number one thing that female students get addicted to when they come to Japan is bread. Although Japan is famous for its rice diet, bread consumption is one of the highest in the world. In fact, there are many bakeries in the city, and many people are drawn to the smell of bread and buy it. Also, convenience stores sell a wide variety of breads, all reasonably priced in the 100 yen range! Sweet breads are especially popular among female students, and I often see them eating them for breakfast and lunch. The sweet breads are especially popular among female students, and I often see them eating them for breakfast and lunch. Too expensive to buy! Beware of vitamin deficiency 1 Fruits Students from all countries say, "Fruit is expensive! ". Because of this, students eat less fruit than they did in their home countries, and many of them catch colds or have skin problems due to vitamin deficiency. For this reason, many students ask their families in their home countries to send them vitamin supplements. Please consider supplements as part of your luggage list before you come to Japan. I hope this article will help you prepare for your arrival in Japan. By the way, our school has a supermarket within a minute's walk from the dormitory. Also, in Hachioji, where our school is located, there is the famous Hachioji Ramen and a bakery with a long line of customers. If you are ever in Hachioji, be sure to stop by! Therefore, this time, I will introduce the food of Japan. What's this? The first food I saw at a supermarket in Japan 1 Mushrooms and seaweed A Mongolian student once asked me about mushrooms.
