The flower "Jacaranda" heralds the early summer of Atami. Whether it will bloom or not, you won't know until that year. Such a slightly capricious jacaranda flower. In 1990, the two trees were donated by Atami City's international sister city, the city of Power Skys in Portugal, and now more than 100 trees have been planted. The world's three largest flowering trees, which are distributed mainly in tropical regions with perpetual summer, have now become the flowers that herald the beginning of summer in Atami. Along the coast of Atami, in June, small blue-purple jacaranda flowers in the shape of trumpets color the sky like a bouquet from Omiya Ryokuchi to Sun Beach. Every year, in early June, during the flowering season, the "Jacaranda Festival" is held. It is said that "happiness visits when flowers fall on your head", how long will jacaranda bloom this season? Please come and ♪ see the precious purple flowers * The event period is the "Light Up" Implementation period. Please note that the flowering status may vary. Period: June 1, 2024 ~ June 16, 2024 Venue name: Jacaranda promenade (around Omiya pine tree) Light-up time: 18:00~22:00 daily during the above period

Yesterday, Saturday, March 16, firefly larvae were released in the Hatsukawa River in Atami Ume Plum Garden. Every year, the children of Baien Town helped us! It is said that there are about 50 types of fireflies in Japan. Representative of Japan is the firefly "Genji Firefly" that is released in Atami, and the hatched larvae are fed Kawanina about once a month to raise them, and the terminal larvae that have reached 2~3 centimeters are released. These larvae come ashore from the river at night when the humidity is high from mid to late April and burrow into the soil, creating an oval-shaped "earthen cocoon". After that, it becomes a snail in the "earthen cocoon", and in late May - early June it becomes an adult insect. This year, we will hold a "Firefly Viewing Evening" from 6/1 (Sat) ~ 9 (Sun). Please take a look at the pale light of fireflies that can only be seen at this time of year.

Yuzen Shrine Founded in 749 (the first year of Tenpei Katsuho) God of hot water in Atami The gods told us that there was a hot spring that had the effect of eliminating diseases, and a shrine was erected to enshrine the god, and it is a shrine that protects the hot springs of Atami. In order to be grateful for the hot springs of Atami and to ensure that the veins of the springs do not cease, an annual festival is held every spring and autumn. The names of the inns dedicated to the shrine are engraved in a row, and the names of the inns that no longer exist are also lined up, and you can feel the history of modern hot spring inns. In front of the shrine, there is a large hot spring that is said to be the source of Atami Onsen, and the intermittent spring is also a famous place. Bougainvillea Between the Onari Bridge and the Itogawa Bridge (about 180 meters) of the Itokawa River, which flows through the center of Atami City, bougainvillea is planted to cover the river. There is a staircase going down to the river near the Itokawa Bridge, making it a ♪ hidden photo spot The yellow "Hypericum Hidecoat" also adds color and is very nice. It peaks at the same time as jacaranda (late May ~ mid-June), so please visit here as well. < bougainvillea> A tropical shrub of the family Lycaenidae from South America (Brazil). In tropical countries, it blooms all year round, but in Japan it blooms from May ~ October. What looks like a flower is actually called a bract, and the small white thing that blooms in the center of the three bracts is a flower. The bracts have veins and are leaf-shaped. Thick meat of the bracts are thin, so they flutter in the wind. The bracts include red, white, peach, orange, yellow, and their multiple colors. Jacaranda flowers Have you ever heard of Jacaranda, a member of the family Honeysuckle from South America? As you can see in the photo, it is a deciduous tree with purple flowers blooming in bunches like grapes, and the green leaves and purple flowers are very beautiful. In Atami City, there are tall trees (looking up height) and shrubs (eye level) along National Route 135 (sidewalks between East Kaigan Town "Jacaranda Promenade" ~ Nagisa Town "Shinsui Park" and in Shinsui Park). It is said that the flowering period in Japan is June, but due to the climate, it is very rare for flowers to bloom on the mainland (planted in open ground), and there were years when they did not bloom at all in Atami, and there are trees that bloom for the second time not only in June but also in September and October. Not all trees bloom when they bloom, and some years only a few bloomed. Some trees bloom a lot, some bloom only one bunch, and some don't bloom at all... How much will it bloom this season? * Bougainvillea is also in full bloom at the same time in Itokawa, so please visit it as well. Nishikigaura One of the scenic spots in Atami. It is a scenic spot that stretches for about 1 kilometer from the south of Uomizaki, the entrance to Izu, and the cliffs continue. (Uomizaki ~ Nishikigaura ~ Sogaura is about 2 kilometers) When the sun rises, the light shines as a dazzling five-colored light in Ura, so it came to be called "Nishikigaura" after the brocade weaving of Kyoto. It retains the remnants of the Atami Taga volcano, and legends derived from historical figures such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and Kato Kiyomasa have also been preserved. The height of the cliff is 80 meters. Strange rocks such as Kabuto Rock, Foundation Rock, Karasuhat Rock, and Benten Rock carved by rough waves are lined up, and Hatsushima and Oshima float on the sea. Atami Nanayu When you walk around the city, you can discover the steam gushing out from various places on the slopes. It is a source called "Atami Nanayu". It is also recommended to visit the source and experience the long history and hot spring atmosphere. (Commemorative Stamps are installed on each of the seven information boards.) ――[Oyukan Spring] has been a world-famous self-gushing spring for a long time. It is said that the "big hot water" gushed out six times during the day and night, and the ground seemed to shake as hot water and steam alternately erupted violently. It gradually decreased from the middle of the Meiji era and stopped in 1923 (Taisho 12)) (it sometimes erupted again during a major earthquake), but in 1962 (Showa 37), it was preserved as a cultural property of the city and continues to this day. * Currently, hot water is artificially gushed out approximately every 5 minutes, reproducing the appearance of the large hot water gushing of yesteryear.
