Last night’s snow left a light dusting across the town center.
This view comes from the newly completed Mt. Moiwa observation deck.
You can still drive to the observation deck parking lot, but the forest road is not plowed, so deeper snow will make the site inaccessible by car.

Mt. Odasshu

“Tokachi is clear; the Hidaka Mountain Range looks especially beautiful this season with snow still clinging to its peaks.”

Sitting at the farthest end of the Hidaka Range on its northern side, Mt. Odasshu stands as a symbol of Shintoku Town.

The lowlands have thawed, but the mountains still hold much snow.
When the surrounding fields were entirely white, we longed for spring because snow removal was necessary, yet now that time feels nostalgic—the pure, cold whiteness of the snow lingers in memory.

This morning the cold eased and it warmed up, reaching nearly 18°C around noon.
We are not quite in the warm embrace of spring, but the changing winds and views make the season’s arrival palpable.

Recent Taiki Town

Fire in the Snow
Late March during spring break.
Just when it seemed to be warming up, Nishiokoppe Village experienced unsettled weather, feeling a bit chilly with snow flurries in the sky.

Still, the children who gathered despite the cold
built bonfires and played in the snow, showing lively energy.

The children started the bonfires themselves.
They practiced using matches and thought about how to arrange the wood so it would catch fire easily.

Once the bonfire was burning well,
the smoke completely hid the faces of those standing on the far side.

Beside the fire,
adults and children alike engaged in a wholehearted snowball fight.

The roasted sweet potatoes turned out warm and delicious.

The season when you can see both snow and bonfires

🎿 Ski Resort Final Event 🏂

Sunday, March 9 was the last day of operations for Gokase Highland Ski Resort ❄️

Under a clear sky, a big prize drawing took place from 11:00 AM 🎁

Cheers erupted each time the winning numbers for lavish prizes were announced, and the drawing ended in great excitement 😆✨

After the drawing, visitors immediately enjoyed the last runs of the season on the slopes 🎿

Taiki Town on February 6th

The heavy snowfall that fell between February 4th and 5th was followed the next day by clear Tokachi skies, so I went for a drive around town.
The familiar scenery had turned into a beautiful snowy landscape!

Shirataki in Winter

Thanks to the recent cold snap, Shirataki has been cloaked in snow and ice, creating a stunning sight ❄️✨

Pale blue-tinted pillars of snow and ice line up into a breathtaking scene 👏

If possible, we’d love for you to see it with your own eyes! …That said, the path to Shirataki is coated in snow and ice and is extremely dangerous ⚠️

This time, specially trained staff from the tourism association risked their lives to climb up, so please enjoy the photos instead… 🙏🙏🙏

The trail to Shirataki is already hazardous, so we ask for your understanding 😭

Still, nature’s artistry is truly beautiful…

I’d grown tired of all the snow, but it turns out it’s not all bad ✨

　In Moseushi Town, from mid-December to the end of March every year, about 13,000 LED illuminations are installed on a birch tree with a height of about 20 meters that grows on the site of the volleyball club training camp of the former Moseushi Commercial High School, and you can enjoy the fantastic scenery.

Enjoy the white and blue illuminations reflected on the snow surface!

Gokase Specialty Center Snow Play

The special cold snap that began this Tuesday has left the Gokase Specialty Center covered in snow☃️
Is everyone safe and free from injury or accidents?💦

To lift the spirits of customers who braved these harsh roads to visit the shop, the staff at the Gokase Specialty Center made a Totoro snowman to bring a little brightness and warmth 🥰👏

It’s big and adorable😳✨

While it was being made, children who had come in for lunch kept asking, “Is Totoro finished yet!?” as they eagerly waited🤣💕
