[About Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture] Atami City lies in the eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture and is a charming town of about 34,000 residents. It is famous as a hot spring resort with a history spanning more than 1,500 years, and it was beloved by historic figures including Tokugawa Ieyasu. Atami is about a 90-minute drive from Tokyo and a 45-minute ride by Shinkansen. With abundant nature, beautiful scenery, and a mild climate, it attracts many visitors year-round. [Introduction to Atami’s tourist spots] ・Atami Ekimae Shopping Street Located in front of Atami Station, the Heiwa Dori and Nakamise shopping streets host shops selling fresh local seafood, traditional crafts, and souvenirs you can only find here. In front of Atami Station, you can enjoy a free footbath using a naturally flowing hot spring called Ieyasu no Yu. ・Pine tree of Omiya and the Kanichi and Omiya statue Since around the Meiji era, many literary masters lived in Atami and wrote notable works. The statue of Kanichi and Omiya, modeled on characters from one of those novels, and the pine tree of Omiya stand along the coast about a 15-minute walk from Atami Station and are signature sightseeing spots. ・Atami Sun Beach This beach of white sand and blue sea is ideal for summer leisure and popular with families and couples. You can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and beach sports among other activities. Continuing from Sun Beach, the waterfront park and Moon Terrace offer an exotic streetscape inspired by towns of northern the Mediterranean. ・Atami Plum Garden You can see some of Japan’s earliest-blooming plum trees here. Among the 469 trees across 60 varieties are ancient trees over 100 years old. ・Atami Castle From the main keep observation deck of Atami Castle, located atop Nishiki Cape, you can enjoy a full 360-degree panorama of Atami’s townscape. The castle’s annex houses the Atami Trick Art Maze Museum, and nearby attractions include the AtamiRopeway and the Atami Hihokan (Secret Museum). ・Hatsushima Hatsushima is the closest island to Tokyo, reachable by high-speed boat from Atami Port in about 30 minutes. This small island with a 4-kilometer shoreline offers year-round diving and a subtropical atmosphere. [Atami’s specialties, souvenirs, and local cuisine] One of Atami’s popular specialties is its fresh seafood. In particular, the seafood landed at Atami Port receives high praise for its freshness and flavor. Local souvenirs such as traditional wagashi and dried fish are popular and are also favored choices for furusato tax return gifts. [Events and festivals] Atami hosts various events and festivals throughout the year. At the Ajiro Onsen area in the Minami-Atami district, the Ajiro Onsen Hinomono Festival is held every autumn and winter, where you can enjoy richly flavored fresh dried fish and other local specialties. The Atami Marine Fireworks Festival is a historic fireworks event that began in 1952 and is held more than ten times a year, not only in summer. [Atami’s hot springs and accommodations] One of Atami’s greatest charms is its abundance of hot springs. Many ryokan, hotels, and guesthouses allow visitors to fully enjoy the blessings of these hot springs. Shizuoka, Matsuzaki Tourism Association
Feb. 4, 2024
Hello everyone! Matsuzaki Tourism Association here! Matsuzakicho, Kamo District, Shizuoka Prefecture, lies in the southern part of the Izu Peninsula, facing Nishi-Izu Town, Kawazu Town, Shimodacho, and Minami-Izu Town. Sixty-four percent of the town is forested, and with about 6,000 residents it has the smallest population in Shizuoka Prefecture. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Matsuzaki in Shizuoka Prefecture offers a peaceful, nature-surrounded retreat. We will share recommended information about the town, so please look forward to it. === Top sightseeing spots in Matsuzaki, Shizuoka Prefecture === Matsuzaki offers many popular attractions we hope you will visit! Experience the traditional Japanese agricultural landscape at the beautiful stone-walled terraced fields of Ishibu Rice Terraces; see works by Irie Chohachi, famed for his late-Edo period plaster paintings, at the Chohachi Art Museum; stroll along Namako Wall Street, where buildings preserve the technique of laying square roof tiles and raising the seams with plaster in a rounded pattern; relax at Matsuzaki Onsen with its day-use baths, guesthouses, and hotels; and visit Inashimo Shrine, whose ginkgo tree on the grounds is about 1,000 years old and designated a prefectural natural monument. Matsuzaki is full of recommended sightseeing spots. The Izu Peninsula, including Matsuzaki, is designated a Japan Geopark because its landforms and geology vividly reflect earth activity such as submarine volcanoes. In Matsuzaki you can feel the power of nature at geospots like Senganmon, Muroiwa Cave, Mt. Eboshi, Ishibu Rice Terraces, and Bentenjima. === Recommended gourmet foods in Matsuzaki, Shizuoka Prefecture === When you visit Matsuzaki, don’t miss the local flavors you can only taste here. Sakuraba-zuke (cherry leaf pickles), a traditional flavor, accounts for about 70 percent of national production and is made in Matsuzaki. Enjoy kawano-ri (river seaweed) with its distinctive taste, grown in the clear waters near the mouth where the Nakagawa and Iwashina River meet; fresh sweetfish caught in the same rivers; Eikyuu Ponkan, a sweet, juicy citrus produced only in Matsuzaki; and Dioscorea japonica (wild yam) grown from the bounty of Matsuzaki’s nature. These delicacies will please food lovers. They also make great souvenirs. === Recommended events in Matsuzaki, Shizuoka Prefecture === Events and festivals held throughout the year are another charm of Matsuzaki. In the agricultural off-season (typically from mid-February to May 5), seven varieties of flowers burst into bloom across rice paddies in the Flower fields in rice paddies; about 1,200 cherry trees line the Nakagawa River and are illuminated during the bloom season along the Cherry trees along the Naka River; and the Osawa Sakura Festival showcases a magnificent cherry tree more than 80 years old in full bloom. These events captivate visitors. On February 23, 2012—Mount Fuji Day—Matsuzaki declared itself "the town where Mount Fuji looks the most beautiful in the world." The grand panorama of Mount Fuji across Suruga Bay is a spectacular sight you must see in person. With seasonal natural beauty, a geopark that reveals the earth’s grandeur, deeply flavored local cuisine, and warm-hearted events, we will continue sharing information to make you fall in love with Matsuzaki, Shizuoka Prefecture. We hope you’ll become captivated by our town!

NICE TO MEET EVERYONE WHO WATCHES COOL JAPAN VIDEOS! This is the Kawazu Tourism Association! Located in the southeast of the Izu Peninsula, Kawazu Town in Shizuoka Prefecture is surrounded by a warm climate and abundant nature. With a population of about 6,500 people as of December 2023, this town offers tourists a peaceful experience in the great outdoors. In this first post, we will deliver the charms of sightseeing spots, events, and special products of Kawazu Town, so please take a look to the end. ◆◇◆ Recommended sightseeing spots in Kawazu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture ◆◇◆ Here are some of the recommended sightseeing spots in Kawazu Town. Please use it as a reference for sightseeing in Kawazu Town! ・Kawazu Nanadaru As the name suggests, Kawazu Nanadaru Falls is a powerful tourist spot consisting of seven waterfalls Kamadaru Falls, Ebidaru Falls, Hebidaru Falls, Shokeidaru Falls, Kanidaru Falls, Deaidaru Falls, and Oodaru Falls. There is a promenade with a total length of 850 meters, and there are attractions such as a suspension bridge and a statue of Izu no Odoriko along the way. When the fresh greenery of spring and the autumn leaves are in full bloom, its beauty stands out even more and attracts visitors. ・Kawazu Bagatelle Park Opened in 2001 as a reproduction of the Parc de Bagatelle in Paris, France, 6,000 roses of about 1,100 varieties bloom in the park. In the park, there is also a perfume mixing experience and a rose school to make original scents. ・Hatcho Pond It is a pond located at an altitude of 1173 meters above sea level. It can only be visited by hiking for about 2 hours each way, but since it is surrounded by the Amagi primeval forest, you can enjoy the fresh greenery and autumn leaves throughout the year. ・Experience-based zoo iZoo The zoo was opened with the concept of Reptiles, and Reptiles such as turtles, lizards, crocodiles, chameleons, and snakes are abundantly bred in the zoo. There are also many rare varieties on display that can only be seen here. Since it is an "experiential zoo", there is also a corner where you can interact with Reptiles. ・Funado no Banya It is a facility where you can enjoy a spectacular open-air bath overlooking Sagami Bay, a foot bath, and a barbecue using fresh local seafood. ・Imaihama Beach It is one of the most popular beaches on the Izu Peninsula with the highest ranking of "AA" water quality on the beach facing Sagami Bay. Crystal clear waters and white sand beaches make it a true summer paradise. ◆ ◇ ◆ Specialty of Kawazu Town in Kawazu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture ◆ ◇ ◆ In Kawazu Town, you can enjoy fresh gourmet foods such as wasabi, sweetfish, and snow crab grown in the high-quality water flowing from Mt. Amagi, as well as lobsters and sazae caught in Sagami Bay. Bibai Tourism and Products Association
Nov. 23, 2023
Bibai Yakitori Bibai City, which once flourished as a coal mine, has a number of soul foods that locals love. One of them is "Bibai Yakitori", which has been loved as a source of stamina for coal miners. The best feature is the "motsu skewers" that contain several types of motsu, chicken skin, and thighs on one skewer. This unique style was born at a store called "Mifune" around Showa 30 and has been inherited by several stores in the city. The biggest feature of Bibai's yakitori is that it is all sticking liver, hearts, gizzards, kumquats, etc., chicken skin, and thighs on a skewer, and if you cut a chicken, you can eat it all deliciously without waste. A variety of textures and flavors spread in the mouth, and it has a very deep taste. The order of skewering is the skin at the bottom, the next is the onion like Hokkaido, the next is the motsu, the onion is again, and the last is the thigh meat. Onions are a specialty of Bibai, and when baked, the sweetness increases and goes well with chicken. There are skewers on the menu that are only meat, but customers overwhelmingly order "motsu skewers". When ordering yakitori, Bibai usually orders large quantities in units of 10 bottles. It is normal for each person to eat 10 or 20 bottles. Seasoning is simple with salt and pepper. Let's become a Bibai citizen and enjoy the deliciousness of the whole chicken.

Arrangement Currently, you can eat torimeshi at several restaurants such as drive-ins and restaurants in Bibai City, but even if the general method of cooking chicken and rice together is the same, the seasoning and detailed recipe are different. Its roots come from the fact that farmers who settled in the reclamation of Hokkaido raised chickens to supplement their livelihood and began to use the precious chickens as hospitality dishes. Rice, stir-fried meat, and motsu are cooked with soy sauce, sugar, and sake, and the rice crumbs soaked in the extract shine a glossy candy color. Because it uses almost no other ingredients or seasonings, it has a strong chicken flavor in both aroma and taste, and has a unique personality that is different from other mixed rice. In Nakamura-cho, a rural village located along the Ishikari River in Bibai City, farmers' mothers continue to inherit this tradition and continue to cook traditional torimeshi without additives every morning in order to protect and spread the local taste. Torimeshi, which has become a staple for Bibai residents, is sold not only at homes but also at several restaurants and supermarkets in the city, and it is one of the pleasures to compare the flavors of the local area.

Nakashibetsu Tourist Association
Nov. 5, 2023
Nice to meet you, everyone! This is the Nakashibetsu Tourist Association. This is my first posting on COOL JAPAN VIDEOS, so this time I would like to introduce and appeal of Nakashibetsu Town in Hokkaido. Thank you in advance! Hokkaido Shibetsu DistrictNakashibetsu Town is a town with a population of 22,524 as of the end of September 2023 Reiwa 5 located in the eastern part of Hokkaido. Nakashibetsu Town in Hokkaido is blessed with nature, beautiful pastures and mountains, and agriculture such as dairy farming, Bareisho, sugar beet, and daikon is thriving. Nakashibetsu Town, which boasts one of the largest producers of raw milk in Japan, produces a lot of milk, ice cream, cheese, etc., and is gaining popularity. The climate is inland climate, and snow cover is relatively low in Hokkaido. In summer, the average temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius, and in winter, the average temperature is around minus 10 degrees Celsius. Next, we will introduce popular tourist attractions in Nakashibetsu Town, Hokkaido! ●Kaiyodai Observatory The 330-degree horizon seen from the "Kaiyodai Observatory" on a plateau at an altitude of 270m is spectacular! It is a spot where you can experience the "roundness of the earth". It is also popular because you can see the Hokkaido heritage "lattice-shaped windbreak forest of Konsen Plateau Lattice-shaped windbreak"! This huge windbreak was created across Nakashibetsu Town, Shibetsu Town, Betsukai Town, and Shibecha Town, and the total area of windbreak forests in the four towns is about 12,000 ha about 2,500 times the size of Tokyo Dome. The full extent of the windbreak can only be seen from an airplane. In 2000 Heisei 12, astronaut Mamoru Mohri took a video from the Space Shuttle Endeavour showed a lattice-shaped windbreak, so it became a hot topic as "an artificial object visible from space". We also recommend the gourmet "Kaiyodai Observatory Happy Honey Soft Serve Ice Cream" and "Siretoco Donuts" that can be eaten at the café in the observatory! Please enjoy it when you visit. * The café is open from late April to the end of October. ● Milk Road The "Nakashibetsu TownNorthern Road Route 19", a straight road with a total length of about 6 km, is one of the tourist attractions called "Nakashibetsu Milk Road" because of the tanker trucks that carry milk. Touring while looking at the magnificent meadows that spread around the road is popular, and it is also popular with motorcycle riders. ●Mutsu Pasture "Mutsu Pasture" was started when Masanori Hata, a writer known for his animal lover nicknamed "Mutsugoro-san", was attracted to the Hokkaido horse "Dosanko" and raised two horses. At Mutsu Pasture's "Hidamari Equestrian Club", you can experience horseback riding where you can communicate with the horses more deeply than at a normal ranch! It starts with brushing and saddling, and the staff slowly moves through the forest and grassland while controlling the horse without pulling it. You will be carefully instructed before departure, so beginners can rest assured! ●Midorigaoka Forest Park Campground It is a park with an area of about 57 hectares, including bungalows, free sites, bike sites, playground equipment, and a bird observation center. On the 6 km long forest road, you can also enjoy forest bathing while looking at the Shiretoko mountain range. 【Opening Period】Campsite: May 1st ~ October 31st In addition, the "Nakashibetsu Airport Information Center" in Nakashibetsu Airport provides information on accommodation facilities from information around the airport. There is also a car rental window on the first floor. Please feel free to use it! Next, we will introduce attractive events and festivals in Nakashibetsu Town, Hokkaido! ■ Nakashibetsu Summer Festival It is a summer festival held for two days in August every year in Nakashibetsu Town, Hokkaido. The sight of about 6,000 lanterns lit up and colored is the biggest attraction! Stage performance events and the Odori Parade are also held. Contents at the time of the 2023 event ■ Nakashibetsu Winter Festival It is a winter festival held for two days in February every year. The "Jumbo Slide" made of snow installed at the venue is very popular with children! There are also stalls by local shops, etc., and you can enjoy Hokkaido gourmet food. There will also be an exhibition of snow sculptures and a fireworks festival on the first night. * In February 2023, snow sculptures and fireworks have been canceled due to a reduced event. In addition to these events, we also hold events according to the season and season, such as "Mt. Moan Trekking", "Ranch Walking Tour", and "Runway Night Walk"! For details, please check the notice of the Nakashibetsu Tourist Association. In Nakashibetsu Town, Hokkaido, there are five hot spring facilities in the city center and one in the suburbs in the Yoroushi Onsen area. On the "Urban Hot Springs" page on the official website of Nakashibetsu Town Town Hall, the "City Area Day Trip Hot Spring Map" is also available. Please use it when visiting day-trip hot spring hotels and inns. The Furusato Nozei tax payment in Nakashibetsu Town, Hokkaido is supported by many people. Introducing popular thank-you gifts! ・Organic & Grass-Fed Pastured Cow Milk - Organic JAS-approved milk squeezed from cows that have eaten only grass. ・Hokkaido Nakashibetsu Original Cheese Set - An assortment of cheeses made with fresh raw milk. ・Hokkaido Inspiration Cup Gelato - Plenty of freshly squeezed milk from Nakashibetsu is used. ・Hokkaido Nomu yogurt - Lactic acid bacteria are added to fresh milk from Nakashibetsu and fermented slowly over time. Nakashibetsu TownFurusato Nozei [Official] Instagram disseminates special products and tourist information. Please take a look at this as well! Nakashibetsu Town in Hokkaido is a town full of charms such as nature, sightseeing spots, and activities. We will continue to send out recommended information about Nakashibetsu Town, so thank you!

Oct. 31, 2023
Today, I would like to introduce "Fuya Bread", which has been in Hachioji for more than 100 years. This shop is a 2-minute walk from Hachioji station. It's a very personal story, but it's also the bakery where my grandmother, who passed away two years ago at the age of 99, used to eat when she was a child. My grandmother told me that she used to eat anpan a lot, so I bought anpan and three loaves of bread. The bread was small in size and had a very nostalgic earthy taste. There are so many international students who get addicted to Japanese bread and get fat. There are many 😊✨ unique shops such as popular melon bakeries and traditional bakeries in Hachioji.
