Tomakomai Tourism Association
Jan. 8, 2026
This year marks the 60th Tomakomai Skating Festival. The highlight is shibare-yaki, a jingisukan grilled outdoors below freezing (the Hokkaido dialect word shibareru means "cold"). Grilled on a drum-can grill and enjoyed with beer, the seasoned jingisukan tastes exceptional. A huge ice slide is another favorite with children. Tomakomai’s signature winter event, the Tomakomai Skating Festival, takes place this year on Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8, 2026.⛸ We hope you will join us!

Here are some recommended experiences. In Urahorocho, where forestry thrives, charcoal burning has been practiced for about 100 years. At one of the few remaining charcoal kilns in Japan, you can hear stories about charcoal from the producers and experience traditional Japanese techniques and culture. On this tour, you will visit shrines that convey Japanese history and culture, learn proper worship from a kannushi (Shinto priest), and after praying draw omikuji fortune slips and enjoy a tea ceremony as a form of Japanese hospitality. You will also take part in mochi-tsuki, the traditional ritual of pounding mochi offered to the gods, making and eating anko mochi (mochi with red bean paste) and ozoni (mochi soup) yourself. Mochi-tsuki is a Japanese ritual of giving thanks to the gods and receiving their blessing; because it is a cooperative activity done by several people, it also offers a chance to strengthen bonds among family and community. In the afternoon, you will try charcoal burning. In Japan, charcoal has long been produced by carbonizing wood using traditional techniques. Cooking over charcoal enhances the sweetness of ingredients and makes food more delicious. Charcoal also has other benefits, such as adsorbing impurities to purify water and removing odorous substances to deodorize. On this tour, you will taste the deliciousness of ingredients cooked on a charcoal barbecue. We want visitors to meet producers they would not normally encounter, learn about their thoughts, and experience the region’s culture and food. We hope these experiences lead to new discoveries and perspectives, helping people live healthier, richer lives. If you are interested, please apply at the following URL. Introducing hands-on tours you can enjoy in Hokkaido’s Tokachi region 😄 ~Enjoyed on a wooden deck at the farm~ Savor Matsuhashi Beef BBQ at Matsuhashi Farm in Sarabetsu Village Matsuhashi Farm has run livestock operations in Sarabetsu Village for over 90 years. The farm manages every stage from breeding and fattening to sales, and also grows wheat and soybeans. Yasuhiro Matsuhashi, the fourth-generation owner, is rethinking Tokachi agriculture, shifting from yield- and income-focused farming to sustainable, self-sufficient practices. His current theme is stockpiling and seed preservation so the next generation will not go hungry. The cattle raised by Mr. Matsuhashi are called Matsuhashi Beef. They focus on preserving the beef’s natural lean flavor with minimal marbling. This plan lets you taste that proud beef on a BBQ terrace built on the farm grounds. From the wooden deck you can see vast fields. Eating locally raised beef amid a panorama that seems to blend into the fields makes the flavor especially memorable. Tour Schedule 11:30 Gather at Matsuhashi Farm 11:35 Farm introduction and walk / Introduction to Matsuhashi Beef Learn from Mr. Matsuhashi about the care he takes in raising Matsuhashi Beef. 12:00 BBQ with Tokachi fields spread before you Enjoy the lean flavor of Matsuhashi Beef and the taste of locally grown vegetables on a perfect BBQ deck with sweeping field views. 13:30 Commemorative photos in the fields Put on shoe covers and take commemorative photos against the spectacular backdrop. 14:00 Tour ends Operating season: June–August Time: 11:30–14:00 (about 2 hours 30 minutes) Participants: 4–100 people Price: ◎ Vegetable Course / A BBQ course focused on freshly harvested vegetables with less meat (mid-July–end of August) ・Without English interpretation: 9,900 yen per person ・With English interpretation: 14,300 yen per person ◎ Matsuhashi Beef Standard Course / Standard plan to enjoy Matsuhashi Beef ・Without English interpretation: 13,200 yen per person ・With English interpretation: 17,600 yen per person ◎ Matsuhashi Beef Premium Course / A luxury plan featuring rare cuts of Matsuhashi Beef ・Without English interpretation: 20,900 yen per person ・With English interpretation: 25,300 yen per person ※As an option, an all-you-can-drink plan is available for 2,000 yen (tax included) for each course. Please make a reservation at least seven days before your desired date of use. (We may not be able to accommodate your requested date due to guide availability or other reasons.) Visitors who have been living abroad within seven days before entering Japan cannot enter hygiene-controlled areas for quarantine reasons, so please understand. Depending on the World Organization for the Animal Health’s reported global outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease, participation in the tour may be refused. Please be aware of this in advance. This experience offers a great opportunity to meet producers, learn about Matsuhashi Beef and Mr. Matsuhashi’s philosophy, and discover the behind-the-scenes of livestock farming and food production!! We hope this Tokachi experience will become a memorable page in your travel story 😄 If you are interested, please visit the relevant page on our official website, "BEHIND THE GOOD TASTE – A Journey Connecting to Tokachi, the Source of Food." CAMP at Kijiya on Wednesday, September 18th⛺ I tried a CAMP experience at Gokase Onsen Mori no Yado Kijiya🔥 We planned to start while it was still light, but the sun set early and we began at dusk🌆 Still, we had a lively barbecue with everyone while watching the sunset from Kijiya on the hilltop🥩 The autumn night breeze felt pleasant and there were fewer bugs, so this season is perfect for camping💡 Come and try camping at Kijiya—it's highly recommended✨

Moseushi Town, Hokkaido
Nov. 7, 2023
HELLO TO EVERYONE WHO WATCHES COOL JAPAN VIDEOS! This is Moseushi Town, Hokkaido. Hokkaido Uryu DistrictMoseushi Town is located almost in the center of Hokkaido and is blessed with clean water from the Ishikari River system, and is a town that has prospered in rice cultivation. It is the third smallest town in Hokkaido by area, but it is full of various charms. This will be my first posting, so I will introduce Moseushi Town and provide information on popular tourist spots and specialties! The climate weather of Moseushi Town in Hokkaido is an inland climate, so it can be about 30 degrees Celsius in summer and minus 20 degrees Celsius or less in winter. The snow melts around April in an average year. Please refer to it as a measure to protect yourself from the cold when traveling. Hokkaido's Moseushi Town has a wide range of delicious gourmet dishes made with local ingredients. Next, we will deliver information on special products! The best specialty of Moseushi Town in Hokkaido is delicious rice! The "secret of its deliciousness" lies in the method of rice cultivation. In Moseushi Town, "apple mint", a type of herb, is planted on the furrow path of the rice field. Since the insect repellent effect of herbs protects rice ears from pests, the use of pesticides is minimized, and low-pesticide rice cultivation can be realized. "Kitasaika" is one of the rice made by such low-pesticide rice cultivation. "Premium Kitasaika", which is vacuum-packed "Nanatsuboshi" Hokkaido brand rice with a protein value of 6.8% or less, which is only 30% of the total harvest produced in Moseushi Town, is also recommended! In addition, apple mint is harvested and used as an ingredient in specialty products such as "From the Village of Herbs herbal liqueur" and "100% natural herbal water". The special products introduced are also delivered as a thank you gift for the Furusato Nozei tax payment in Moseushi Town, Hokkaido. We offer a variety of thank-you gifts such as a large raw dorayaki "Deka Raw" from a long-established Japanese confectionery store in Moseushi Town and "258 pickled ingredients without additives", so please check the Furusato Nozei Tax Payment site! Here are some of the most popular sightseeing spots in Moseushi Town, Hokkaido! ●Moseushi Town Water Park Urara It is a park with various playground equipment located about a 15-minute walk from Moseushi Station. The free waterslide is fun even for the little ones! Newly established in 2022 Reiwa 4, the colorful complex playground equipment "Curling Combination" is also recommended. In the park, there is also a park golf course charged, basketball three-on-three courts free, and a barbecue corner reservation required, so you can enjoy sports and the outdoors! In addition, there is also an indoor curling hall "Moseushi Town Curling Hall" charged in the park! In the 1980s, Moseushi Town started the activities of the Moseushi Curling Association, and in 2003, the long-awaited dedicated facility "Moseushi Town Curling Hall" was completed. It can be used as a playground facility in the summer from May to September, and as an indoor curling hall from November to March. Brushes, shoes, sliders, and other equipment are available for rent, so please feel free to experience them! Since the 4th year of 2022 Reiwa 4, Japan's top-level women's curling team "FORTIUS" has been appointed as a cheering ambassador for Moseushi Town, and has been enlivening curling in the town. ●Moseushi Onsen Peperu Located right next to Moseushi Town Water Park Urara, "Moseushi Onsen Peperu" is a facility where you can enjoy pure natural hot springs that opened in 1993. Currently, the hot spring is closed in preparation for the reopening, but it is scheduled to reopen around the end of April 2024. Please come and visit us when it reopens! In addition, the adjacent accommodation facilities and cottages are still available! Cottage Building A and Building B are cottages with a capacity of 8 people and are recommended for families and groups. Moving House Buildings C and D are cottages with a capacity of up to 5 people, making them ideal for girls' groups and families. You can also enjoy a barbecue in front of the cottage! In the future, we will continue to provide you with recommended information about Moseushi Town, Hokkaido. Thank you in advance!
