Suigo Sawara Ayame Park lies within Suigo-Tsukuba Quasi-National Park. The roughly 8-hectare park features islands, bridges, and open water, where visitors can soak up the nostalgic atmosphere of the historic waterways. In addition to irises, the grounds are planted with wisteria and lotus, and more recently with lycoris. The park also added amusement facilities for children and a dog run. At the Ayame Festival, about 1.5 million iris flowers in 400 varieties, including Edo-, Higo- and Ise-style types, bloom in profusion. Various events take place, such as bridal boat processions and supporting boats for Sawara Bayashi performances. From July through August the Lotus Festival lets visitors admire more than 300 lotus varieties.
