Former Hyuga Family Atami Bettei (Former Hyuga Bettei) Toshibei Hyuga, who was active in Asian trade, completed the construction in 1936 (Showa 11) as a separate residence. The design of the wooden two-story main house is by Hitoshi Watanabe, who is known for his designs for Wako in Ginza, Tokyo, the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno, Tokyo, and the Aichi Prefectural Office. The basement was designed by Bruno Taut, a world-renowned German architect, and is the only surviving architectural work left by Taut in Japan. It consists of three rooms: a social room with plenty of bamboo and paulownia, a Western-style room with a staircase as part of the room, and a Japanese-style room, and is designed with the beauty of Japanese style such as Katsura Imperial Palace and Ise Jingu Shrine in mind. After Mr. Hyuga's death, it was carefully used as a recreation center for a private company, but in 2004 (Heisei 16), when it was facing the danger of demolition, it was acquired by Atami City with a donation from a philanthropist living in Tokyo. In 2006, it was designated as an important cultural property of Japan. More than 80 years have passed since its completion, and there has been an urgent need for repair projects to improve damage and earthquake resistance due to deterioration over time, and a large-scale conservation and repair project was carried out from FY2018 (Heisei 30) to FY2021 (Reiwa 3). In August 2022, it was reopened to the public with as much preservation and reproduction as possible of the condition it was in at the time of construction. * The tour is a complete advance reservation system (online reservation only). For details and reservations, please check the Atami City Office website. Former Kiya Takeshi Family Residence / Okinawa World Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town Okinawa World is located in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa Prefecture. It is a registered tangible cultural property located in the castle town of the Ryukyu Kingdom, where red-tiled kominka houses that recreate the townscape of the Ryukyu dynasty are lined up. It is a private house built in the late Meiji era, and it is a building that miraculously survived the ravages of war in the most intense place during the war. (It was moved here from its original location.) It is now used as a hands-on workshop. There were quite a few people who experienced it ^^ It is a valuable building that I would like to preserve in the future.

Former Kiya Takeshi Family Residence / Okinawa World Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town Okinawa World is located in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa Prefecture. I went to the castle town of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which reproduces the townscape of the Ryukyu Dynasty era lined with red tile kominka, which is a registered tangible cultural property. The building in the photo is a private house that miraculously survived the ravages of war and was the site of the most intense ground battle of the Pacific War. On the pillars on the side of the corridor, the scars of shells received during the war were still vivid. (The building was moved here from its original location.) Since it was relocated, it has been used as a hands-on workshop. A very valuable building that tells the history of the Battle of Okinawa, I want to preserve it for a long time.

Izusan Shrine Izusan Shrine is also the birthplace of Izu place names. Since it is the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo and Hojo Masako were united, it is also famous as a shrine of Marriage. In the Edo period, it was called Izu Daigongen, and it is a shrine with a history that Tokugawa Ieyasu also visited. If you climb the long stone steps to the precincts, you can enjoy a wonderful view overlooking Atami City and the sea. It takes about 1 hour to get from the main shrine to the main shrine via the Haruka Shrine, Hakusan Shrine, and the Yumeijin headquarters. It is also recommended to visit the temple while slowly climbing the mountain road. About 800 steps below the main shrine is the Sashiyu Shrine, where the god of hot springs is enshrined. Every year, a grand festival is held for 3 days from April 14 ~ 16, and many people visit. Address: 〒413-0002 Shizuoka Prefecture Atami City Izuyama 708-1 Phone number: 0557-80-3164 Access: From JR Atami Station, take a bus bound for Nanao for about 10 minutes → get off in front of Izusan Shrine Parking: Free (for 5 cars) * The number of stairs of 837 steps is the number from "Izuyama Beach" (near the running hot spring) to the main shrine. (It takes about 200 steps from the city road where the bus stop in front of Izusan Shrine is located to the main shrine / about 600 steps from National Route 135 to the main shrine) * Please note that if you go to "Hongu" from the main shrine / Izuyama Folk Museum, it will be a mountain road.

Omiya pine tree Statue of Kanichi Omiya Since the Meiji era, many literary giants have lived in Atami, where they have written masterpieces. Among them, the most famous is the novel "The golden demon(Konjiki Yasha)" by Koyo Ozaki, which was published intermittently in the "Yomiuri Shimbun" and "New Novels" for six years from the 30th year of Meiji 30. The song "Omiya pine tree" named after this novel and the song that begins with "Walking on the coast of Atami..." became one and spread explosively, and the main character "Kan'ichi and Omiya" became a presence that captured the hearts of the people as if he were a real person. The "Kan'ichi and Omiya Statue" and "Omiya pine tree" are located along the national highway on the coast and are visited by many people as tourist photo spots. "Bushido is found in death." Experience the life and death of a samurai in SAMURAI Calligraphy. Samurai calligraphy (calligraphy of resignation) is a calligraphy in which a samurai looks back on his life when he foresees his death and writes his last words on earth with a brush. In the Warring States Period, before the last great battle of the war, the battle of Osaka, SAMURAI foresaw his death, looked back on his life so far, and left one last character on the world's largest calligraphy paper. “武士道とは死ぬこととみつけたり” 侍の生と死のあり方をSAMURAI書道で体験します。 SAMURAI書道(辞世の書)とは、侍が死を予見したときにこれまでの人生を振り返り、この世での最後の文字として筆で書き残すもの。 戦国時代、最後の大戦である大坂の陣という戦を前に、SAMURAIは死を予見して、これまでの人生を振り返り、世界最大の書道紙に最後のひと文字を残しましょう。
